Watching Netflix or Video online

Q: Watching Netflix or Video online

Occasionally I will be watching a video or Netflix movie and sometimes it just stops streaming and makes a loud noise which continues until I have to manually shutdown the computer. I've even just tried closing the video or movie but it will not allow me - it just freezes accompanied with the loud noise.

Is there something I can do to fix this occasional problem?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Watching Netflix or Video online

It's possible that your computer is overheating and the loud noise you hear is the CPU fan revving up in an attempt to cool the CPU. Without knowing anything about your system it's impossible to say for sure.

Hey guys - i'm not really sure how to decode what error message this is, but here's the information my computer dumped on me - maybe you can help me figure out what's causing this. I uninstalled zonealarm already since it seemed like a common error with that - but i'd like to check it out just in case.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

I have had 2 BSOD today while watching a tv show online. I have no clue what could be the problem seeing as i haven't installed any new hardware or installed any software lately.

When checking in the mindump folder i can find two reports but they dont have the right creation time. The first one is almost a year old and the other one about 3 months. So i dont know if it will help posting those because it probably doesnt have anything to do with the bsod i am having right now.

Edit: I tried running the SF_Diagnostic_Tool but when i press grab all it gives me a error saying a "unhandled exception has occurred in your application".

I have experienced problems watching videos or playing music recently were sometimes it lags for a few seconds and the sound becomes very digitized and choppy. Also my computer crashed once this month watching another video, but I didn't get the BSOD. The same thing happened this time, only if froze and then I got the BSOD.

I don't know if this is related, but I've been experiencing problems during start up with windows. Periodically the computer freezes while loading windows on the 'Please Wait' screen, just before the login screen is displayed. Usually it happens multiple times consecutively, when I restart my computer from the first freeze it freezes again multiple times. I then have to spend the afternoon trying to turn my computer on, until I can get to the login screen without the computer freezing. This problem started in September, but is a periodic occurrence. I mentioned this because I thought it might be related, if it isn't should I post a new thread about it?

I've got a hardware problem too, but that's probably unrelated. The laptop speakers randomly stopped working a few months ago, I'm planning on sending it in to get fixed soon. Just thought I'd mention it in case it's relevant somehow... Read more

Hi all,

I've recently found that when watching video online, the sound and video become de-synced after a few minutes, although they start in sync with each other. This happens every time on Netflix, and about half of the time on iPlayer. It only rarely affects YouTube, and is the same on all browsers I have installed (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and IE). Restarting the browser occasionally helps. I've had no issues playing files that I have saved on my computer, or DVDs.

Things I have tried so far:
- Clearing history, cookies, etc.
- Disabling extensions
- Full scans with CCleaner, Spybot, and AVG
- Reinstalling the browsers, flash, and silverlight
- Reinstalled sound and video drivers

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Hey TechGuy community,

I just bought a new Laptop (Lenovo S440), Windows 8.1 64bit, installed the Firefox web browser (35.0.1), downloaded the Adobe shockwave flash (16.0.0.305). Now I am trying to watch a YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrJlUVCe4VA) on HD 1080p and I am experiencing constant pausing and buffering (around every 30 seconds). My internet connection is above 20mbit/s, so that should not be a problem. I measured it with the Ookla online internet speed test. When watching the exact same video on my brotherís computer on 1080p it works smoothly, he is connected to the same modem as I am. I do not understand why I am experiencing this issues, my Laptop has the Intel i7 processor and is new, he is using an older PC with the i3. I already tried to uninstall the Flash and Mozilla Firefox and reinstall it, but that did not help (But I could not completely remove it in the way they describe it here https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html, because I could not delete the files in C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash, it said I needed permission from the TrustedInstaller to delete the files). Why is that? I also compared watching a Twitch stream on the highest quality "Source" on my laptop as well as on his computer, same story, it works smoothly for him but it keeps pausing and buffering on mine every minute or so. Good Morning Experts! While watching online videos my laptop will reach 149 degrees and the louder fans kick in. All other times it operates at normal operating temperature. Thank you!

A:Laptop reaches 149 degrees while watching online video

That is likely the most demanding thing you do and maybe the only thing that kicks in the switchable graphics. On big strong laptops like yours it is often necessary after a few years to open it up and clean out around the cooling fan, reseat the processor and apply new thermal compound. 149 degrees fahrenheit is 65 Celsius, which is not excessive. That fan is there to keep it cool and it can be loud but it is normal during gaming or demanding tasks.  #HPEXPERTDAY

Hello,

I received a random BSOD this evening while watching a news video online. I did not get a chance to see what the blue screen said when it happened this time around. This has been happening sporadically at least a couple of times a month now.

The last time that I had a BSOD, which was around two weeks ago, it had something to do with a "Driver power state failure." In any case, I have uploaded the two minidump files for anyone to diagnose or look at that should hold more information on what caused this to happen. Any assistance on this matter is very much appreciated. Lastly, I should also mention that I had a brief power outage yesterday due to high winds in my area. The computer was running at the time, but I don't think that would cause the computer to produce a minidump file, right?

Thank you for your time,

ComputerTech07

P.S. My system is a two year old Dell XPS 8700 with an i7 processor, a 1TB hard drive, and 14 GB of memory. It is currently running Windows 7 Professional (64-bit).

Also need a wifi router. Are you looking to hook up a computer? Or are you looking to use ANY device to hook to the TV to watch Netflix? If you are talking about the latter, then there are number of devices that will hook to an old CRT TV by way of a standard composite (i.e. yellow "RCA" jack) or maybe even an S-Video jack since your CRT Trinitron TV likely does not have HDMI or component (red-green-blue RCA jacks). If nothing else, Wii can hook up to CRT TVs and you can watch Netflix through your Wii. Also, older Roku devices (but not the Roku 3 it appears) can hook up to older analog connectors and they offer a Netflix "channel".If you are talking about a computer, then you will either need a graphics card that support output to a composite video connection or you will need a converter that will go from VGA to composite (or S-Video) or even DVI/HDMI to composite (or S-Video).If you clarify what you specifically want to do, then I might be able to provide more specific guidance. Also, it would help if you listed what specific input connections you have on the TV and if you want to use a computer, what specific output options you have on the computer (i.e. brand/model of computer).

Got a BSOD when watching Netflix so it's probably my display driver because it always is lol. Although it started out with a freeze up of my PC and mouse then a BSOD then once the PC restarted, windows were configuring updates before it got to the login screen so that's different. I don't see any updates that I can find that were installed when this happened. Tried windows update history but last one installed was a few days ago. So the updates installed today must be listed somewhere. I still have the display driver the windows updates gave me about a month ago. I'm not going to bother getting a new one from amd.com because I always have trouble whenever I try a new one from there. I think it's because my PC needs a catalyst version and not one from crimson. I used to have catalyst and had less (almost none) problems with it.

Sorry but I don't have a minidump file to post. There's a folder "minidump" but it's empty for some reason and the date modified was from January so I guess the file caused by the BSOD never made it there this time like it usually does. I hope that's a good sign! My system shut down on me one time not long ago and guess what I was doing? Watching Netflix! I guess it has to do with the fan or something getting too hot. That's a bummer because I enjoy Netflix!

Hello everyone,

I recently had a BSOD while watching Netflix. I did a little research of my own, and it looks like it is my Intel Graphics controller that had the problem.

PC-FUNEBRE-14_08_2015_142106,13.zip

I tried to update the driver automatically through Windows, but it told me it was already up to date. I then downloaded this driver : win64_153623.exe (version 10.18.14.4251) and tried to install manually, but I received an error that this file was not valid for my computer.

I also tried to use the Intel "manage drivers" utility, but it did not detect any drivers on my system.

Could you give me a few tips for solving this problem ? Thank you very much !

For reference I an running Windows 8.1 with all critical updates, Intel Graphics 4600 + Nvidia GTX 860M, 8Go Ram, Core i7.

I have tried two kits of ram (the first showed errors, which is why I switched, but I guess that didn't fix it)
I am also using a new gpu since the first crashes started, and the motherboard is only 1 month old.

Ignore the 0x119 bugcheck, this was caused by a poorly coded application.

So ruling out ram, gpu, mobo, and OS installation, what could be causing this?
All bsods occurred while watching Netflix, and I run my browsers in sandboxie.
Since this is a privilege error most likely, and sandboxie intercepts the kernel to keep my system secure, could this be the cause?
I will not uninstall sandboxie, don't waste your time suggesting it.

Quote:
"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps Let us know if you need help

Hello all. First time posting on these forums, as I haven't really had a need to inquire about computer problems till more recently.

I was watching Netflix last night, when I suddenly lost access to all windows functionality. The show continued to play for about a minute, before the computer went to the BSoD. I have not used Netflix at all since the incident, but I've also not seen the error again. Hopefully this may narrow things down a bit.

I had another incident where my computer froze up while watching Netflix. I was able to ctrl+alt+dlt, but attempting to open task manager did nothing. Had to hard-resent, but no BSoD.

I've attached the zipped crash information. I was unable to save a performance monitoring file as an html doc for some reason, so I hope this is suitable. Any insight would be great. Thanks all!

Hello, this is a very recent problem (started less then a week ago) that Ive been having on a custom build pc that has been running flawlessly for years, the only recent hardware change was a new GPU around february.

I started getting BSOD, mostly while playing FIFA or while watching netflix last week. Eventually I formatted and instaled windows 7 (ultimate 64 bit) again but the error persisted even on the new format, eventually I started getting BSOD on boot and even on safe mode (diferent bsod errors: irql, memory management and others) so I RE formatted and installed the least amount of things possible and that ran flawlessly for two days (I played lots of games, watched lots of netflix to test it and it seemed fine) I thought the problem was fixed.

Today I was playing FIFA 15 and I got a new BSOD (IRQL LESS NOT EQUAL). Throughout this whole process I have made sure I have the latest GPU drivers, I installed new motherboard drivers on this format, I ran mem test 86 and the windows memory diagnostic and both of them showed me no errors. I am completely stumped.

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 945

Hi

I'm new here. I was hoping someone could help diagnose my BSOD issues.

I upgraded my video card to a MSI Radeon R9 390 recently. But my Motherboard is a Gigabyte Model: GA-870A-UD3.
It is running on PCI-e 2.0 rather than 3.0 but I don't know how to verify that this is what is causing the BSOD.

I am also running two types of RAM in my computer:
Corsair 2x 2GB RAM
Kingston 2x 8GB 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL11

I have a Corsair HX650 as a powersupply. I would've thought that this PSU is sufficient for the hardware that I'm running.

I play games such as GTA V, Starcraft II, Counter Strike: GO and it crashes at random times - sometimes even in the menu screen.

Look forward to hearing back form you and telling me what type of tests I can do to try and find the root cause.

Thank you all in advance!

Hello,

I have done two re-formats on my computer attempting to get rid of this blue screen error, but it keeps coming back (almost instantly). I think it usually happens when I watch netflix and close the computer without shutting down first; but it has happened a few times when I wasn't previously watching netflix.

It only occurs when I'm starting the computer, but not every time.

The last time it happened, I kept ignoring the blue screen and it eventually got to the point where I wasn't able to use the computer (couldn't save files, wouldn't connect to internet, etc.).

Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated. I attached my dump files, but to be perfectly honest, I don't know anything about fixing computers. So please baby step me through fixing it if you can

Thank you so much,
Shannon

Welcome aboard.

► You have two antivirus programs installed. AVG and McAfee. Your crash is directly blaming AVG.

Code:
fffff880`07c3c7c8 fffff880`06215796Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\avgidsdrivera.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for avgidsdrivera.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for avgidsdrivera.sys
avgidsdrivera+0x15796
It is Driver Reference Table - avgidsdrivera.sys.

So you must to uninstall AVG. At the same time, McAfee is a higher level crap, and a very well known problem causer. Uninstall McAfee too. For best protection, use Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows, with Free MBAM.

► Also, Free up the startup.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept the restart.
► What I have also noticed, you have some old device drivers installed.

ATI Display Driver:

Code:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\atikmdag.sys (8.1.1.921, 5.76 MB (6,037,504 bytes), 8/18/2009 6:48 AM)
Realtek ethernet driver:

Code:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\rt64win7.sys (7.13.112.2010, 317.53 KB (325,152 bytes), 10/25/2011 2:05 AM)
If possible, try to update those, too.

Let us know the results.

I suggest you use Microsoft Security Essentials instead.
