Share files using SkyDrive with a Link

Q: Share files using SkyDrive with a Link

I want to share a file using SkyDrive by using a public Link
On the Web Interface I can only send Links to people (these need to be logged in)
or I can generate a html-code for a iFrame to publish the file on a website.

But I want to get a Link that directly points to the file,
so that I can send it via mail if I want to ...

Is this possible in any way?

Preferred Solution: Share files using SkyDrive with a Link

I recommend trying the free service from Zip Cloud. It's currently our users' favorite backup and storage solution and will save you headaches down the line.

You can get it direct from this link http://goo.gl/rFYDxc. (This link will open the Zip Cloud homepage.)

Hello Orlandotek,

Is this for the SkyDrive app (8.1), SkyDrive desktop app (8), or online at SkyDrive.com?

If the SkyDrive app in Windows 8.1, then you might see if you may be able to use the method in the tutorial below to sign in to SkyDrive with the same Microsoft account that you signed in to Windows 8.1 with.

If SkyDrive desktop app in Windows 8, then you might see if you could set to be signed in to at startup.

During Win 8 install, I declined the SkyDrive options.
I have not installed the local client SkyDrive software..
I have been to the SkyDrive settings in Win8, TTBOMK, they are all OFF.

I'm baffled why it's not bringing up the regular save box.?

Any ideas.?

Thanks... Dave

A:When downloading from web link, only save to Skydrive.?

Skydrive is part of windows 8/8.1 and as far as I know, you can't opt out or decline Skydrive. Once the OS is installed you might be able to turn off or disable skydrive.

I've looked through the Skydrive FAQ, I cannot seem to verify if I wipe my drive, the files synched will remain on Skydrive.
I have ran the beta W8 since release, subsequently lost my job and cannot afford the $40 to buy upgrade now that Jan 15th is here. (RC/Beta expire, OS reboots every 2hrs, installing Ubuntu)

I have a grandfathered 25GB account with all my MP3's and photo's and would like to know for sure they will remain on Skydrive if I wipe my laptop. Would make it much easier than backing up these files once again across multiple USB and DVD's.

Is SkyDrive fully set up on your system? Meaning, do you have a SkyDrive folder that shows in your Favorites in Windows Explorer?

If so, yes, you can save a file directly to that folder by doing a "Save As" in your favorite app. You can also do this from any computer, tablet, or smart phone that you have SkyDrive account set up on. Makes for easy access, wherever you are!!

I'm having a pretty major issue with Skydrive on Windows 8.1. A vast majority of my files are unopenable from Explorer (or the Modern UI app which seems to just open them through explorer in the end anyway). When I try to open one of these files, I receive an error message titled "1 Interrupted Action" and displaying the message:

An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.

Error 0x80040A41: No error description available

I have yet to find anything even resembling a solution when I search for that error code. The options this error window gives me is to "Try Again" which presents a typical explorer progress bar that never goes anywhere or to "skip" or "cancel" which do the same thing. Essentially this means that I have to use the skydrive web client to download the file to some other location locally and then edit and reupload from there. As far as I can tell there also isn't a traceable logic to what files are going to be accessible and which ones are not. I could literally be just finished working on a file, save it, and have it inaccessible when I try to reopen it. This error has not improved or changed at all by my making any files "available offline" or "available online-only" (in fact clicking those options doesn't seem to actually change their Availability ... I've purchased and installed Microsoft Windows Professional + 2013. Also, somehow, I've installed a link to SkyDrive in the cloud. I have an Excel file that I want to share with others. The only way, so far, that I've been able to accomplish this is to transfer my file to the cloud and authorize sharing. I would rather have the file reside on my computer and a copy be synced with skydrive. Is there a way to do this?

A:Is there a way to sync files on my cptr to SkyDrive?

Hello Ron, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if using the SkyDrive desktop app for this may work. It gives you a "C:\Users\(user-name)\SkyDrive" folder that is kept synced with your online SkyDrive. This will make it easy to just save files into this folder to be available on both your local PC and the online SkyDrive. In addition, it works great with Office 2013.

I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 from 8.0 and my MS Skydrive experience has taken a major nosedive. Where to begin... I can't upload new files to "the cloud" from my local computer. All previous 53GB of data is on my computer and SkyDrive are there - I just can't upload new files. Are my locals files in sync with MS SkyDrive? I don't know; the familiar green check mark on my file folders are gone. Does this mean the file folders on my computer and those on MS SkyDrive are not syncing? Also, I can create a folder on the SkyDrive app I have on my mobile phone and it will appear on my computer in about 10 - 15 seconds, but if I create a new folder on my home computer in the SkyDrive folder, it won't appear on my mobile phone's SkyDrive app. Frustrated!

I use SkyDrive as my cloud storage and have 5GB of files in it.

But I want it to be IN THE CLOUD and hidden, not accesible to everyone using my laptop and not duplicate copies of the files in my hard disk (actually triplicate copies).

For example, let's say my 3GB music collection. I keep a copy in my hard disk within "My Music", a copy in the cloud in Skydrive, but now I have a third copy in my hard disk within the Skydrive folder, which I didn't want and I wasn't asked about.

Microsoft assumed I want this third copy for some reason and downloaded everything automatically to this Skydrive folder. Great.

So, the first thing I do is uninstalling Skydrive, if I want to upload something I do it via browser, but the folder and copy of my files is still there.

My question is, can I delete those files, my music collection and so on without deleting at the same time the copy in the cloud? I mean, if I delete them here they will be deleted in the cloud too?

Thanks in advance.

A:Can I delete the SkyDrive duplicate files in my laptop?

Copied this from the skydrive FAQ.
What does the SkyDrive folder do?

When you install the SkyDrive desktop app for Windows, a copy of your SkyDrive is downloaded to your PC and put in theSkyDrive folder. This folder is kept in sync with SkyDrive. If you add, change, or delete a file or folder on SkyDrive.com, the file or folder is added, changed, or deleted in your SkyDrive folder and vice versa.

A:(hidden)SkyDrive files not converted to OneDrive

You shouldn't delete them (or anything else from WinSxS). Changing the name to OneDrive was just branding. Many objects still use the old SkyDrive name - even in Windows 10.

The directory C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\SkyDrive is still used also.

I recently installed Skydrive as I thought it would give me the functionality I need but it seems not to.
What I was wanting to do was transfer a lot of files (text, audio and photo) to the cloud allowing me to access them either from home or, when working away, from my laptop without taking up HD space on either.
The ability to password protect them was also rather important.

From what I can tell though, all files are stored locally on any machine that has Skydrive installed as well as on the cloud server and, once you've logged on you can't then log out again.

Am I correct in these assumptions? If not what am I missing? I can't even find a settings button.

I want to be able to log on to my PC or laptop, open Skydrive (or similar), log on using a password, see the title of the files on the server (without downloading them all) and just download the one I need at that time.

Hello all,

Before installing Windows 8.1 anything that I put into my Skydrive folder (I had the desktop app) were automatically synced to Skydrive.com as well as my Android phone app, and anything I uploaded from my phone app were synced to Skydrive.com and were automatically downloaded to my Skydrive folder. Now my phone app and Skydrive.com still work fine, but the Skydrive folder does not. That is, nothing gets downloaded to my Skydrive folder and nothing gets uploaded to Skydrive.com from it.

I've tried different settings for it, I've tried offline only, online only, I've toggled settings in the Settings app, and nothing.

Something else that happens is that now there are duplicates of all of the files in the My Documents folder. Say that my PC is named Smith-PC. Now, for example, there is a file called Random Document.docx and Random Document-Smith-PC.docx. And this is for every single file in the My Documents folder. Furthermore, only the version with the Smith-PC in the name works. When I open the normally named file, I get an error:

"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0x80070490: Element not found."

This is really annoying and now I have duplicates of all of my documents, half of which won't open and the other half which are named wrong with Smith-PC at the end of all of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why does the Windows 8.1 built in Skydrive take an age to upload files?

They are showing up in the Metro app and in the File Explorer folder. But it seems to not want to upload and there is no option to force sync.

How do I get Skydrive to upload straight away? It's no good as is because if I upload to skydrive and then try and get that file off of it on my iPad I can't. Doesn't matter if the app is open or not. Nothing happens.

There is no progress bars or indication as to uploading in the 8.1 skydrive app.

I have signed in under my microsoft account.

If I go back to local account, can I use the old Skydrive desktop app? That worked properly.

Ok, I recently moved into an apartment with an ethernet link all ready to go. I was told that I could use my Linksys BEFSR41 wired router to share this connection with my other pc (before I moved in). Now that I am here, and trying to set everything up, I am having problems.

I have the cables right.. ethernet cable to the WAN port on the router, separate cables from 1 and 2 slots on the router to the pcs.. and in network connections on the pcs, I am getting LAN connected. On the host pc, I also have a Internet Connection gateway above the LAN connection.. it says "Disabled". I tried right clicking it and selecting Enable, and it tells me that it is connected but it still reads Disabled. And of course, neither pc can access the internet.

I have tried contacting the apartment manager for more details about the ethernet, but I was told rather brusquely that the management only supports direct links and not routers. At this point I feel I am being given the brush off in this matter and am unlikely to get further, useful information from the office. That is why I have turned to this community to help me resolve the problem.

Things I have tried:
Powered down pcs and router for several minutes, and then powered up router, waited a couple minutes, and powered up pcs.
Checked settings on both pcs; verified that they will never try to dial a connection and LAN settings have no options checked.

When Computer.A (host of the internet connection) goes to Start -> My Network Places -> ?view workgroup computers? all that shows up in the list is Computer.A.

However if I try to go to ?view workgroup computers? on Computer.B I get the following error message:

?Mshome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator etc.

A:Can share internet but can't share files

Hello! Welcome to TechSpot!

The quickest fix is a router/hub rather than peer to peer cable.
Do you have file and print sharing turned on?
Try setting up network wizard to something other than "MSHOME"
You might have only internet sharing turned on.
Did you create the files for network or just "finish network setup",
in the wizard?

This has helped me by setting guest password.

spike said:

Protect your guest account - The guest account can be used by hackers and/or malware to gain greater access to your machine, even when turned off. The guest account can't be removed. However, you can disable it, but this can affect the functionality of your computer. Instead, what you can do, and what you probably should do, is put a strong password on it, and then leave it safely turned off. You do this by opening a command window (start -> run -> type "cmd" and press enter). at the command prompt, type net user guest <password> (where <password> is your chosen password, being something you can remember). After hitting the enter key, the guest account will be password protected. If your machine is networked and authenticating as guest, then you'll need this password to access network shares - if you tell it to remeber the password, it will only ask the once.Click to expand...

Then Click the Sharing tab, and click the check box on to share this folder on the network... you can also give it permissions for anyone to change the files by click the 2nd check box.

But it seems the must be something missing.(I think that's because the 'Everone' means 'Everyone in this computer, not others)
Of course, that doesn't work.

So, please help??

First, the specs:

One DELL Dimension 4600 running XP Home (aka "Desktop")
One IBM Think Pad T42 running XP Pro (aka "Laptop")
One cable modem connected directly to a LINKSYS WRT54GS v4 wireless router
One HP printer connected directly to the DELL
The DELL connects directly to the router while the IBM accesses it wireless. Both computers can access the internet just fine.

Now the problem:
I have a Home Network setup. The Laptop is able to both print and see files on the Desktop through this network. But the Desktop cannot access files on the Laptop. In fact, the Laptop doesn't even show up when I look under "Microsoft Windows Network" the Desktop . Yet when I look on the Laptop under "Computer Name" it shows it as being a part of the same Workgroup.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer here.
