Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga S1 bios reset

Q: Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga S1 bios reset

Hi guys, I have no idea what's happening with my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga S1 (it's about 3.5 years old, its warranty just expired). Every time I reboot, I get this weird message saying "Configuration changed, please reboot the machine...". I then proceed to reboot the machine and everything works but the bios options are always resetted! This makes the laptop extremely unusable for me as I always swap the fn/ctrl keys so that I don't have to learn a new keyboard every time I switch computers. If I go back and change the option, it works fine, but the next reboot it does the same message again and I have to reconfigure the bios at EVERY boot. I'm lucky this option is the only one I changed, otherwise someone that would have changed the boot order/graphics settings/passwords etc. would be in a much worst situation than me...At first this seemed like a typical bios battery being out of juice so that the config can't stay saved, but I've now changed the bios battery twice with new ones and this doesn't change anything... It's been working perfectly for 3 years but now it just suddenly stopped working for that reason (by not working I mean the bios that keeps resetting itself, I can still boot to my main OS just fine after). If anybody has any suggestion that would be greatly appreciated. I thought about flashing the bios but afaik it's the latest one, and anyway as I'm only running GNU/Linux I can't run the .exe tool to update it (off-topic but please lenovo have another way to update your device firmwares than using a windows only solution...)Thank you guys, I'm getting pretty desperate at this point, I don't want to change my notebook as everything else (battery, storage) is still running well even after 3 years.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

After around a month of not using my laptop (thinkpad yoga 12), when i tried to start my machine it didn't start. the red lights were on, the keyboard lights will respond but i won't see anything on the screen.  Solution tried:1. After googling i tried the reset button but it did not help. 2. I tried to disconnect and reconnect battery and now i also hear two beep sounds as well. (guess i screwed up) After i opened the machine i found the fan start and after beep sounds stop running. Any suggestions anyone can suggest ?

My S1 Yoga, 20CD-00B1US, is stuck with the screen off and the power LED stuck on. When I try to push or hold the power button it beeps two short beeps and the LED stays solid. I was running the Lenovo Bios Update Software directly from their site. The power cord was plugged in and no other programs were running (aside from background programs). Now it is just stuck like this. Any thoughts or help would be great. I can't even get it to force shut off. Thank you in advance!

I posted a similar question earlier and people referred me to the Yoga (much appreciated).  However, I was interested in the 2.6 lb carbon version with touch screen capabilities.  Asus has a Spin 7 model that is very good at 2.65lb, but I miss the red mouse toggle in the middle of the keyboard and Asus's track pad was designed too large....causing unintended tapping.  The Yoga, while nice, is heavier than I was looking for.  The 14 inch screen is about 3.3lb? the 12 inch at 3? I thought that some of the earlier Thinkpad Carbons had touch screen and was hoping they would make a return soon.  Thanks,

Hi, First post, I hope this is the correct spot, this is more Windows10 rather than X1 Yoga specific per se... If I reset Windows 10 from the recovery partition, will this include ALL the software included when I first received the laptop (including any Lenovo add ons)?  In other words, does it reset Windows to *exactly* the way it was when I received it from the factory?  I need the details on how Lenovo sets up the recovery partition. I haven't had the laptop long, and I'm happy to reinstall what little I've done since receiving it (mainly Office 365). (More details:  I'm setting it up to dual boot Windows and Linux.  I want to fix the bootloader partition.  There are other approaches I could use, but am happy to reset Windows as long as Lenovo has set the recovery partition to be identical to factory settings.  I'll create a recovery disk and system backup after I do the reset, so I have additional options in the future.)

Hi, My laptop had been giving some display problems. This might have been due to installation of some unnecessary updates. I wanted to reset my PC (I have the data back-up so I don't care about loosing my data too).  I tried all kinds of PC reset options available at the boot by pressing F11. All of them end up saying PC reset was not carried out due to some error. How do I reset my PC to its original setting? Thanks,

I've had a virus on the laptop/tablet for a while now and it was ruining the PC for me. I tried multiple different free malware detection services but the actual problems always slipped through. I didn't want to have to pay for a whole new program just to clean it out, and because this is a fairly new device I decided to just factory reset the whole thing. I followed the steps in the user manual and a couple of different internet sites, but I've hit a brick wall. When I get to the reset screen of the laptop, all of the possible options I can use encounter errors. I tried to use "refresh your PC" and get "There was a problem refreshing your PC". I tried "reset your PC" and it gets about half way through the process and says "There was a problem resetting your PC". I went into the advanced options that looks like the image I've attached to this post. It says I do not have any point to restore to, I don't have an image backup, the system repair says that it couldn't repair the PC, I have no idea what to do in command prompt, I couldn't find anything useful in the UEFI (But then again, I didn't know what to look for), and startup settings doesn't do anything. On top of all that, I can't even get out of this menu. My options at the menu start are to Continue (Exit and continue to Windows 8.1), Use a device (Which I do not have one or know how to get one), Troubleshoot, and Turn off your PC. When I try to continue, the PC boots up, says "Preparing Automatic Repair" and I get put ri... Read more

Hello and welcome,

That SSD is used as a cache for the main drive.  You need to install express cache software.  Don't know if running the cleanup utility is required, but linked below.

I recently restarted my laptop as I do often, and now it won't boot back up out of nowhere. First the laptop displays "to interupt normal startup, press enter"Then it says "preparing automatic repair" on splash screenThen I get the blue recovery page, the error code 0xc0000225 and a list of options to try. None of the options seem to work, they either restart the computer or just flash back to the options screen. When I hit enter or F12 to interrupt normal boot, it just freezes until I hold power to shutdown.I just made a bootable windows recovery drive, but don't know how to boot into it as I can't access any menu besides the one above.I tried to post a picture of the repair screen, but the file size is too big. If someone needs to know what they are, I will find a way to post them here, but none of them work anyway. I uploaded the picture. Hopefully it is accessible.

Hey Guys I'm rather confused about the pen support for the new Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15. I've read quite a bit about it and find the information quite inconsistent. Some say it does support active pen some say it will in april and some say it doesn't. What I would like to know:A.) What kind of pen technology does the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15 support atm?B.) Are there any changes in sight? / When? / What changes?C.) Can I write on it while resting my hand on the screen aka has it palm rejection?D.) How good is it for note taking? Can it keep up with my writing speed? Links to videos where I can actually see it being used / tested would be greatly appreciated.

A:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 15 Active Pen

From what I know there isn't too much information out so far. But here's what I found out. First off, the current Thinkpad Yoga 14 and 15 don't support pen digitizers at all, and will not in the future.Secondly, the Toshiba Encore 2 Write apparently uses the same technology. See this thread. Here's what I know:- It's called Wacom "Active ES" as in Active Electro Static.- It's battery powered. Unlike Wacom's older technology, you need a battery in the pen.- Palm rejection is more of a driver thing and not the technology. So it works, basically.- People say it feels "different", not sure if that means better or worse.- Precision is apparently very good, perhaps even better than the older tech without battery.- Pen lag (speed) doesn't seem to be an issue. Might even be better than the older technology. Other than that I personally couldn't find any information about whatever will be built into the Thinkpad Yoga 14 and 15 Only that they call it "Active Pen" and that it will be out in April. Also that the displays will support something called "anypen" which basically means you can use any pen-shaped metal object to write on the display. But that isn't really of any interest to me because I want pressure sensitivity.

My laptop doesn't turn on anymore. Here is what I have to do to turn it on (I tried many sequence of steps, but this is the only one that works every time):-Disconnect battery and CMOS battery-Press power button ten times, then press and hold for 30 seconds-Connect power adaptor and press power button At this point, my laptop turns on, but I have to reset my time and date in BIOS (of course this is normal since I disconnected the CMOS batter). Once I turn my laptop on, my batter shows that it is charging and it is at 100%. I dual boot and both Ubuntu and Windows 8.1 show the batter charging at 100%.As soon as I unplug my AC adaptor, the laptop turns off again and I have to repeat the sequence above again to turn it on. This happens consistently. However, if I shutdown my laptop the right way without unplugging the AC adaptor at any point, it turns back on normally. This happens of both my Linux and Windows OS. What I've tried:-Uninstalling battery drivers and restarting my laptop-Updating to the latest power management drives from this Lenovo websiteI also read that some HP laptops have software issues that doesn't allow the laptop to switch from AC adaptor mode to battery mode. I believe this might be the issue I'm seeing, but I couldn't find a way to check this setting. I don't think this last detail is related, but when I shutdown Windows, I see a message saying:Closing 1 app and restartingAsusSGPLusBTServerThis app is preventing you f rom restartingAlo...
