How to remove about blank: Trusted Start Page

Q: How to remove about blank: Trusted Start Page

I am having a bit of difficulty removing the Trusted Start Page from my IE. Below is a log generated from "HijackThis" that will hopefully help you. I have tried all the spyware removal software such as Ad-aware, Spy Subtract, Spybot etc.. but nothing seems to work. Below is the HijackThis log:

Preferred Solution: How to remove about blank: Trusted Start Page

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi pyro

Do a CTRL+ALT+DEL to open Task Manager and under running "Processes" kill EACH and EVERY OCCURANCE of each of the following processes (if you find them) (either of them my show up more than once on the list):

vcsystem.exe
SERVICE.EXE

Run Hijack This again and put a check next to each of the following items, then close all other windows and browsers (including this one - leaving only HijackThis open) and then click "Fix checked"

If you don't use this for your ISP or network, then fix it - if you don't know for sure, then leave it for now:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1
If all of your Antispyware tools (and antivirus) aren't completely updated from the internet, do that now (download the updates, but don't run them yet).

Now boot to Safe Mode

How to boot to Safe Mode:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...001052409420406

To make your hidden files and folders visible, go to Start > Search and under "More advanced search options". Make sure there is a check next to "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Now click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the "View" tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"
Now in Safe Mode find and delete the following files:

c:\windows\system32\vcsystem.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SERVICE.EXE

Delete files/folders from the following directories (But not the directory itself, for example delete all files/folder IN temp.
C:\Windows\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\<All other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <<<This will delete your files in your internet cache--including cookies.
C:\Documents and Settings\<All other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\

Then empty the Recycle Bin.

Run AdAware SE, Spybot, and your Antivirus and fix all that they find.

Then reboot to normal mode.

Now go here to do an online virus scan (for a "second opinion" on whether you have viruses or not) (make sure you checkmark to scan AND clean):

Run Hijack This again and post a new log here

I know i am not the only one who had a problem with their home page always returning to the about:blank trusted start page. I have read other posts on this problem but none seemed to help permanently.
I have downloaded ad-aware, spybot search and destroy, cws shredder, about: buster, and hijack this.

I also hav a problem with the freshbar toolbar in ie explorer which i also want gone.

I just need some help to get rid of these problems and any other nasty things u may happen to notice on my system.

Hi Technet
My domaincomputers have enhanced security switched on by default.
Being an educational institute, we try to incorporate a lot of news and video's in our lessons.
I had to move http://www.deredactie.be/cm/vrtnieuws/videozone to the trusted websites because video was blocked.
Apparently, the Facebook/twitter integration (scripts on external websites) gets blocked by default because of said enhanced security. And because the website loads those scripts before the video, the video was also blocked.
Now
When we link from PowerPoint to a website that is in the trusted list, that website won't load.
We just receive a blank page but ONLY when Internet Explorer has not been started yet.
If IE 11.0.9600.17937 already displays any website at all, the powerpoint-link works just fine.
Steps to recreate the problem:

Is that the whole HijackThis log file? I see one or two suspicious files, but want to make sure there aren't others.

Download: StartDreck.

Unzip to its own folder and start the program:
Press 'Config'
Press 'Unmark All'

Check the following boxes only:
Registry -> Run Keys
System/drivers> Running processes
Press 'Ok'

Press 'Save' and select the location to save the log file (default is the same folder as the application)

Post the log in this thread.

Also, update Internet Explorer to version 6.0 and get the Service Pack for it. It will bring you down eventually since it's so outdated now.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this but here's a nuisance situation I'm dealing with. In February I bought a Toshiba P200-RT7 laptop which came with Vista Home Premium and I bought and installed Norton 360.

On start up, the desk top appears and then it's covered by a blank page. To close this page, I click the Windows key on the keyboard, right click on the blank page in the tool bar and then Close.

The blank page appears to be Internet Explorer, or related to it, because it has Fraud Monitoring in the top middle, Norton 360 in the top left corner next to a computer icon and globe, and Options on the top right. When I click on the Options button a drop down menu appears that says Open Norton 360, Report Site, and Help.

I use Firefox as my primary browser so I've tried to find the cause of this blank page by looking in IE options, etc. but can't seem to resolve this issue. I think it's likely something simple that I've missed. Any help in resolving this nuisance would be appreciated.

Managed to unlock Options and fix Home Page but in the process, I edited the registry file for the Start Page - deleted values - thinking that it would reset on next opening but it didn't/won't. So now, when I click on the blue 'E' I get a typical Internet page but no address and the main page is blank - have to hit the Home Page Icon to get it to go there. I'm running XP Pro with SP1. ANy suggestions would really be appreciated - I've tried all I know. Thanks in advance.

Have these instructions printed or in a convenient Notepad (or Wordpad) file so you can view them in Safe Mode. Have "show hidden (or all) files" checked in Folder Options > View in case you have to search for any hidden files to delete. Also ensure you do NOT have "hide file extensions..." enabled in Folder Options > View

Download and unzip to a convenient location the CoolWebShredder, CWShredder.exe available here: http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html

Then:

Hello, and happy new year. I ran Hijackthis and hope someone can help. My Internet Explorer start page has been hijacked by something called "about:blank" that appears to be a search engine for spam (why would anyone search for spam??). I can change the homepage via the usual method but the next time I start IE it's back to "about:blank". I'm also getting a pop-up window occasionally that seems to try to find the topic of the page I'm looking at and then gives me a link to some more junk advertisements. It says something like: "searching for weather?" or "Searching for adware blocker?", etc. The third problem is a Window that pops up from time to time that calls itself the Windows security center (or something like that) that tells me that my system is infected, and ask if I want to learn how to fix it. The first time I clicked OK and it took me to some vendor trying to sell an adware blocker. I also have a similar baloon that pops up from the tray by the clock along with a red shield symbol. Finally, I have a couple of links that have added themselves to my favorites list. When I run adware removers it gets rid of them but they keep coming back. The links are for "Seven days of free porn", "search the web", "only sex website", and a folder called "Sites about".I have run through the "Preparation guide for use before posting a Hijackthis log" (scanned with ad-aware SE, spybot, ... Hi

I have a problem. My office has many labs, but from a single lab when someone prints a word document onto a particular printer, it gives out an extra blank page. This blank page is not seen in the print preview unlike which was discussed in the previous forums.

This problem has been encountered only for word documents but not for .pdf files. I have tried even with a single page of word printing, it gives out another blank page. Can anyone resolve this problem. I dont think its the problem with the printer because it works well with other labs and .pdf files from this lab too. Anyways its a HP Laserjet 5SiMX.

A:Word document prints an extra blank page but that blank page is not seen in preview

Is the printer in question the default printer for the PC in that lab? Print preview shows how the document would appear based on the settings of the default printer - using another printer can cause changes such as this.

I have installed IE9 Beta (Windows 7 Pro 32-bit). When I startup (cold start) IE9, it starts up very fast, but then it displays a blank page for about 10 seconds. After this period, it continues and shows my home page (Google). I installed IE9 on another PC but there I have the same problem. When I close IE9 and start it again, everything is fine. But as soon as I reboot my PC and start IE9 again, I have the delay again. Does someone know how I could solve this problem?

A:Slow start IE9 - First 10s blank page before it continues to homepage

I too have this problem with IE9. I have even set my homepage to about:blank but the delay remains. As you know, and have stated, IE9 is still in the Beta phase of its development. This means that some of the code isn't yet fully optimised. Hopefully, this issue should be resolved when it is finally released in its full version. That issue aside, I am finding IE9 quite stable and easy to use. Of course, there are differences between IE8 and IE9, but it's just a matter of getting used to them.

I read all the "read these before posting in malware removal forum", so I hope I get it right.

Yesterday, after a restart of Firefox 11 (on Vista X64), my normally blank start page went to www.juego.com - a site I've never visited. I immediately thought browser hijack. Checked & in FF settings, start page is still set to blank.

Shut down the internet connection & restarted FF. It said, "Having problems connecting to www.blank.com." A quick web search on another PC gives the impression it's a newer variant of about:blank trojan common to IE.

Ran a full scan w/ latest MBAM - turned up nothing - will post report.
Ran HijackThis latest ver.
Ran full scan w/ my Kaspersky IS 2012 at its deepest settings. Found nothing. Though one site I visited probably 2 wks ago? that KIS caught / disabled a supposed trojan, per KIS support. But, didn't notice anything unusual until yesterday.
Today, d/l & ran DDS - not sure how to interpret but nothing jumps out.

Only prgms installed w/in last week were Eraser, Screenshot Captor. Both d/l from devs site, both scanned w/ KIS.
Here are HJT, DDS, MBAM logs. Thanks.

Every time I connect to Netzero, IE always opens and loads netzero's start up page. In IE, my homepage is set to about:blank and I have Firefox set as my default browser. When I was using an earlier version of Netzero I know that I somehow changed it so that the start up page wouldn't automatically pop up, but I can't remember how on earth I did it.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can stop Netzero's start up page from automatically loading?

I only use Firefox and have dial up so its really annoying when I have to wait for IE to pop-up and start loading just so I can then close IE, switch to Firefox and then actually browse the web. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I am using ASP.NET and MVC3 for developing a website. I am trying to dynamically pull HTML from the web server and add the HTML to existing DOM elements on a already loaded page. However, after I add the dynamic content, the javascripts addressing the dynamic content does not work. (Example: The dynamic content has a dropdown. The event handler javascripts for the dropdown do not get executed).

However, when I add "about:blank" to the Trusted Sites security zone, I do not face this problem.

I observed this problem in IE9 (not sure if this happens in IE7 or 8). Other browsers (Firefox, Chrome) do not give me such issues.

I am not sure what is going wrong in IE9. Any pointers towards resolving this?

Regards,

Ronith

Hi Everyone,

I had a virus that deleted all my desktop icons & start menu shortcuts which was pretending to be an anti-virus program that said I had loads of viruses and I had to pay to get them removed (paying the program). I followed steps from different websites to remove the virus in safe mode (rkill Mbam and a few others) then when I rebooted normally, the computer loaded up and seemed to work for about 10 seconds, then all the pop ups kicked back in and all my desktop icons disappeared again. I shut it down & now when I load it up I can still get into safe mode no problem but loading up normally, it gets stuck on the 'loading windows' screen...(the icon keeps flashing but it never goes past that page)

I had the Jacquie Lawson Advent Calendar (jacquielawson.com) running on my Windows 7 computer until a couple of days ago. Then, I no longer had the icon show up and after many attempts to make it work again, I ended up de-installing the Calendar, downloaded and ran PC Cleaner, re-installed Adobe Air, re-downloaded McAfee Total Protection, and re-installed the Advent Calendar.

Now I have an icon on my desktop for the Calendar that has a McAfee shield on it. When I tried to open it, I got a screen asking if this was a trusted company (or similar language). I click Yes, and nothing happens.

Now when I try to open the icon, I don't even get the screen, absolutely nothing happens.

I'd love to see the rest of this awesome Advent Calendar before Christmas.

It is not feasible to setup a trusted location for each user for each Office program they use.

Is there anyway to bypass this "security feature"?

Hey guys,

I have a client at my workplace who has some problems in Internet Explorer 7 on a Windows XP desktop system.

You see, every time my client wanted to print out something, he/she usually goes into print preview. From there, there is a blank page on the first page, but there is some text on the second (and subsequent) pages. He/she is trying to print from a pop-up window with the menu bars and buttons in place.

I have to experiment and play around with the zoom buttons and even change it from portrait and landscape. My client is trying to print some reports and statistics for the VOIP lines on the administration page. How do I fix the particular issue?

My best guess is to upgrade the entire IE web browser to 8 (or maybe 9). Any other suggestions?

I have a problem when opening a new tab on iexplorer 11. Once opening a new tab, it shows a blank page but I would like it to open to the new tabs page, the page that shows the ten most commonly used web pages. I go to internet options, click on the tabs button, make the change from blank page to new tabs page, click apply, ok, ok. All works well for a while but it then somehow mysteriously changes back. I can not seem to get the desired change to remain. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi there.
I recently had a trojan dnschanger on my laptop. I tried using malwarebytes program to remove it several times and then gave up and sent it in to get repaired at a shop in town. They told me there was no infection and sent it back to me. I reran the test and sure enough it was gone. but...

What had originally made me try using malwarebytes to scan ( avg, spybot s&d, and adaware did not find anything) was that my browser was acting strange. When I do a Google search and click on one of the results, it will load a blank page saying 'done' in the bottom corner, then after 5 seconds or so it will then load the page i wanted.

For instance, I click on "hxxp://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-115088-using-web-browser-page-loads-but-screen-blank" search result and it puts this:

"hxxp://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=1&ved=0CAcQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.kioskea.net%2Fforum%2Faffich-115088-using-web-browser-page-loads-but-screen-blank&rct=j&q=browser+loads+blank+page+then+&ei=W6JzS6q_G8PgnAec2vmyCQ&usg=AFQjCNHiczGbtPYRraVBQ_7hGcgLE2f6LQ&as_acct=9dm612l7ldg&cr=s6ar6l7"

into the top bar and sits on the blank,'done' page for 5 or 10 secs then goes to the "hxxp://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-115088-using-web-browser-page-loads-but-screen-blank" page after.

It is driving me crazy. This is doing it in firefox 3.5.7 and also in ie 8.0.7600.16385 - (i rarely use ie)

Hi my wife’s friend’s computer is having a problem, first it didn’t have any virus scan problem – so I installed AVG 7.0. AVG ran clean with the current updates. I also ran Adaware and Spybot with current updates and they removed some spyware programs.

My problem now is when I try to access Microsoft’s Windows Update page all I get is a BLANK white screen with a message "Done” in the bottom left corner. I get the same results when I go to the Symantic Security Check web page and I click on the GO button to do the security check, it open a new BLANK white window???

Could this Virus, spyware or just a setting???

Hi. I know about the common problem of people creating blank pages when they don't mean to, but this is not that problem. If I open a new document and type a few characters, it will print a completely blank page, followed by a page with my characters. If I print a 10-page document, it will print 20 pages - 10 blank interspersed with the 10 pages of the document. It prints the blank page first. I've looked through the Word prefs and don't see anything that could cause this. I deleted Normal.dot Any ideas very welcome.

A:Word 2007 prints a blank page for every page

Welcome to the forum.

I am guessing your header is messed up. You can look into editing it and saving over top of the normal.dotx but I would just suggest finding the normal.dotx and renaming it normal.old and see if that fixes your problem.

A:I've lost all icons and files, desktop is blank, start menu blank

Run the unhide.exe utility. (i think it has been updated to handle this, but:

After running the unhide tool you may still be missing most of your start menu shortcuts? They can be found in a folder named smtmp inside:

(XP)- C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temp
(W7)- C:\Users\(Username)\AppData\Local\Temp
These will be there unless you have removed temp files / folders

There might be three numbered folders inside C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Temp\smtmp folder. The folders will be numbered 1, 2 and 4.

Inside the 1 folder is a folder named ?Programs.? This folder should be copied / pasted to (using XP) to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu, which will already have a folder named Programs but it is safe to overwrite it since Windows will replace the subfolders without creating duplicates.

Inside the 2 folder are the quick launch items specific for the user. Select ALL of these shortcuts and copy / paste to (using XP) C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch.

Inside the 4 folder are the desktop items that should be copied to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop.

For Windows 7 users, the all users start menu is C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and the all users desktop folder i... Read more
