Are there disadvantages of ibuypower.com?

Q: Are there disadvantages of ibuypower.com?

I want to build a Laptop computer for ~ $2000. Ibuypower seems to be the only site where I can find a laptop that is high performance, good price, and 15in. Everywhere else (that I can find) only has laptops that are either less good spec's, or good spec's and 17in.

Preferred Solution: Are there disadvantages of ibuypower.com?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have never heard of an Ibuypower, but I do have an Emachine. I am still using an Emachine 333id model. I would say an Emachine. Go with what I know LOL.

I am on my 3rd machine (4th if you want to be technical). Built the third time. Build the machine if you can afford it. If you check my past post you can see just how fustrating it can be, but normally not that hard.

thank you. I've never used a forum before, and have no idea what else to do in my position. I uploaded the files that you will need to solve this if you can, thanks again. Also my temps read around 40-60 because i play mmos, and my rear fan runs hard core alot even with case open, and idk if its just the fact that its a gaming pc or if it is telling me of a soon to come heat problem.

Uninstall Avast then use the removal tool. Set Windows Firewall and Windows Defender to Automatic and start them too, using services.msc.

Update Realtek HD Audio codec driver from their website:

RTKVHD64 RTKVHD64.sys Fri Mar 29 09:40:06 2013 (515599B6)

Update motherboard bios to newest version.

Likely that the memory is not configured well, mismatched, or defective.

Please attach a screenshot of CPU-Z first tab, one of memory tab and one each for each stick of RAM of SPD tab - along with newest crash dumps - if necessary after completing the above. (Or perhaps Avast removal is the trick instead.)

This is my first thread in a forum, so I hope this is the correct spot.

I'm currently looking at buying a computer, and so far, have found two that fall in my price range and seem to meet the requirements for what I need.

I mostly use my computer for:
Music (iTunes)
Internet browing (IE)
Word processing

The first computer I am looking at has an older, slower processor (AMD Athlon 64 3400+ with a Newcastle core.) But it has a significantly better graphics card (XFX GeForce 7600 GT).

The second computer has a better processor (AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ with a Windsor core.) But it's graphics card is a bit worse (GeForce 6200TC). Although, this computer comes with twice the memory (2 gig), and tons of software (notably Office 12 and Photoshop, but also quite a few others).

Otherwise the comptuers are about equal. I can probably get either for about the same price.

I'm just wondering what you guys think I should go for.

The second one seems like the better deal, except for the video card. How much would it cost to upgade the video card in the second one to something equal or greater to the video card in the first computer?

Thoughts, comments, advice, and suggestions would be very helpful!

Thanks very much.

A:Which would be better for me? Advantages vs. Disadvantages.

I would lean to towards the second computer too. A dual processor would be a lot nicer, and buying the software programs can get very expensive.

I am actually using a 6200 series Geforce video card and it does an ok job. It runs Battle Field 2 just fine but I have to keep the settings low.

I believe that a GeForce 7600 video card goes for around $150-200 if u wanted to upgrade to it. From what I hear they are really good video cards becuase you get the most bang for your buck.

What are they? Disadvantages, security risks and so on?

For instance if I open a port that is necessary for an application to function, can this port be used for malicious intent (through the program, or just through the port in general because it's open)?

I ask this (in this forum) because my internet connection suddenly malfunctioned stating it had no or limited connection. I couldn't even access my router. And this happened a few hours after I opened a port.

Now my software firewall stated it found an IP (which looked like a default gateway but the number was slightly altered) wanting to connect to some IP I'd never seen before (and it's not my IP). The firewall stated it was to be automatically added to be trusted since "it can connect any computer to yours" etc., etc.

I just don't know what the hell is going on here, and I don't like not knowing what's going on.

of running the 64-bit version against the 32-bit???

Many mainstream apps that won't run on 64-bit for instance?

A:What are the advantages/disadvantages

Improvement in memory management starts it off. That sees less information sent out to the paging file for virtual memory keeping more in the active ram.

It doesn't necessarily the 64bit is faster then the 32bit overall however. The first thing everyone looks is not being limited to the 3.5gb of available ram due to the 4gb maximum for the 32bit kernel.

As far as the endless variety of softwares retail or otherwise you'd be surprized at what you can actually get running on the 64bit 7 while maybe not so on the 64bit edtitions of XP and Vista alike while having been written even for the 32bit XP! With anything new you also have to expect some things are going to be lost as well.

With each particular program even with some 32bit device drivers it's best expressed as what they call "the luck of the draw". Sometimes you can get something 32bit to run while the next time it won't! But the same goes for a 32bit program to a newer 32bit app where the next version simply won't run an older program written for the previous version.

I am sorry but I am a n00b at this.
I have a 8800GTS with a core clock of 580Mhz I am thinking of Overclocking it, but I have a question regarding overclocking. What are the disadvantages? will it affect the chip? (even when you overclock it in stable condition) does it hurt the GPU in anyway?
So if you overclock it, as long as you maintain it in a tempertaure under 60C would it be fine?
I just wanted to know the conqusences of overclocking.
Thank you.

A:Overclocking? Disadvantages?

The risk is it could be unstable. You could also burn out your chipset if you bring it up by large increments.

Honestly if you play it safe then there's nothing to worry about when you overclock.

Just keep an eye on your temperature and maintain a safe threshold below the specified maximum. You might need to buy an aftermarket cooling unit if you cannot manage the extra heat.

Overclocking is forcing a setting that makes the component run faster than the manufacturer's specification, which does "shorten the life" of the chip. But that's usually nothing to worry about because the magnitude of overclocking damage is way too small. You'll probably go through a few new video cards by the time the negative effects of overclocking start showing up.

Does anyone out there know if the iBuypower computers or other computer out there on like Tigerdirect or the ZT brands from Costo are any good? I've never heard of them but keep seeing them popping up everywhere....

I've only ever had a Dell, HP or Gateway machine.

A:iBuypower and other non-namebrand computers

They're most often made from quite much better quality parts than Dell, etc as they don't get exclusively extra cheap motherboards and other parts like the big brand companies. They do sometimes use lower quality power supplies though, quite a feat considering what the factory built boxes have. I wouldn't recommend getting any of them without modifying it yourself and selecting a quality power supply for it, or replacing it yourself to save a few dozen dollars, as well as getting a longer warranty for the PSU.

Hey all, new to the forums and in pretty serious need of some help. I bought an IBUYPOWER prebuilt gaming rig last... April I think, and its been working great for me. Recently however ( the last month or so), the sound keeps going out. It went out for about a week before randomly coming back (nothing I did), and now its been gone for about 2-3 weeks. The sound icon down by the clock shows a red x and says that no speakers are plugged in. I've tried a bunch of things to try and get my audio back on, but no luck. I'm not sure what I would need to provide here for anybody to help me, or what I SHOULDNT post for security reasons, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some important notes
*I have Windows 7
*I have two jacks for my speakers, one in the back where you would typically expect to find one, but also an additional one in the front panel. Neither one apparently works, leading me to believe its a driver issue.

I'm in the market for a new digital camera, probably a 5-megapixel model. I have two CANON 2-MP digicams and several Compact Flash cards. While I'm partial to CANON, I would also strongly consider other highly-rated cameras, regardless of brand, and especially -- though not exclusively -- those which use CF cards.

One of my cameras uses AA batteries, so I have two sets of NIMH and a 15-minute recharger. I really like the convenience/availability of AA's, but it seems that most 5-MP cameras use some form of proprietary battery, usually lithium-ion, instead. Why is this? Do the proprietary batteries such as the lithium-ion have major advantages over AA NiMh's?

I'm open to suggestions and recommendations for a good 5-MP camera, no matter what type of batteries and media cards are used; I'd be willing to move away from AA and CF for a great deal on a digital camera.

Thank you,

Does anyone know where i can find information about the advantages and disadvantages of using Microsoft Access and Oracle as part of developing a web site and in general use? ie why is one better than the other?

A:advantages/disadvantages of database

Comparing Access to Oracle is like comparing a ten speed to a Harley. I am working with both now. Access is fine to use as a front end tool to connect to Oracle or as a small application database on a desktop, but if you are going to be storing lots of data, and having lots of people accessing it, Oracle is the way to go.

The other side of the coin is that Access is a lot cheaper than Oracle. I guess it all depends on the amount of expected use and what you / your company can afford.

Sorry, I don't have any technical links for you to read, but maybe someone else will.

I am wanting to give an unbiased opinion to a customer of various AV products to a user and would value some advantages and disadavantages of the following products:

Norton Antivirus
Mcafee equivalent

Any other reliable Antivirus product.

A:Advantages And Disadvantages Of Av Products

Selecting an AV is more of a personal decision, than a "which is better" decision, since the one's you have listed are all reputable products. The reason I say it's more of a personal decision, is the fact that no AV program will catch every problem, so it boils down to which user interface you're more comfortable with using.None of them are 100% effective, so for that reason, it's a good idea to occasionally run a couple of the free online scans, as an extra layer of protection.I also recommend staying away from suites. It seems the more they add to the program, the more problems people have with it.That's why, in my opinion, it's better to use programs that are dedicated to one job (AV, Firewall, Antispyware, ....), instead of trying to do everything. You'll have fewer problems in the long run.You should also consider using one of the free AV's on the market. They're just as effective as their pay-for counterparts, but they lack some of the "bells-and-whistles" of the pay-for programs.Personally, I use AVG Anti-Virus Free, and have been completely satisfied with the program. This link, Freeware Replacements For Common Commercial Apps, will provide a list of several alternatives, that work just as good as any paid program. There's even a free version of Bitdefender. All programs on the list are used by our members, and Spyware free. Also, why pay a lot for something (Antivirus, Firewall, Anti-Spyware), that you can get for free, that will do the same job, if not ... I have Comcast cable internet. I am looking to do a little job for a friend of mine who wants to have 2 PCs connected to the internet. I can connect both thru the cable modem. One via Cat 5 and the other via USB. I don't know the speeds and such, but the USB seems to go at the same speed. Are there any major advantages or disadvantages to doing this? It saves the money of buying a switch or router and the extra cable?

If you think it's a stupid idea, should I go with switch or router?

A:Advantages/Disadvantages of connecting thru USB

I would definitely go with the router.

Connecting both through the cable modem requires 2 IP addresses. Your friend may have these addresses now, but unless he is paying for multiple IP addresses, his ISP may take them away at any time. If he only has 1 IP address, he won't be able to use both PCs at the same time.

Also, a router wll protect your friend's network from "intruders" and only requires 1 IP address.

Hope this helps!

Hiya Bleepsters.

I've heard that storing files in the Windows "Libraries" is not the best idea. Some people completely loathe the idea. I can't remember why ATM.

What say you? Should I create my own folders for storing my music, pictures, and documents? And/or/if so, should I copy and paste/drag and drop what's in the libraries right now to newly created personal user folders of my own naming, or are the Windows libraries only shortcuts to get to the files within, with said files actually being somewhere else on the machine? (Maybe THAT'S what I've heard others say they loathe so much.)

Lastly, I mainly use the backup/image built into Win 7 x64 Home Premium to backup/image to an external. Once in a while I also use Macrium Reflect as an extra measure. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to having said files in or out of said libraries for ease of backing up and restoring?

BTW - as mentioned, I'm running Home Premium x64, but it's a shop-built computer. More specs are in my profile here. Thanks.

A:System Library Disadvantages?

It is a personal preference thing.

Just like office 2010 vs Office 2003. You either like the new interface or you hate it.
I'm in the latter camp by the way.

I store files on a different data only drive.
That way when I go to back them up to a BluRay disc I know where they are.
Not to mention I don't want to put junk on my boot SSD despite it having plenty of room.

In terms of backing up I cloned my boot drive so I can go back to it if something happens like catching a virus. Thus for me having all data files on a different drive works best so I can restore the boot drive from the cloned version and not lose all the data files. I'll be burning 100gig or so Sunday to back them up and free space. I fell behind on backing up.

You need to decide what works best for you.

What seems to be wrong us that the UEFI can't seem to detect the harddrives when determining boot order? That's my best guess. I really have no idea. If I load Bootable media, such as my installation drive, it detects it just fine and all my components are fine and I'm able to format and install as I please.
However, I'm unable to access the UEFI configuration, as the pc just stops.
Twice in the past few days it's been able to work itself out and boot as normal, so I know it's not a harddrive issue, but it's extremely rare.
I formatted and installed a fresh windows on a secondary drive to see if that would help to both avail.

I've noticed that there are quite a few third party DNS services that you can use instead of the default servers assigned by your ISP.
Some examples are Google DNS, Open DNS or Comodo Secure DNS.  A few others mentioned here.
Some of the claims include:
Better security (some claim to filter malicious domains that host malware)
More reliable
I've tried Comodo DNS which I configured my modem router to use, but I've reverted back as oddly, it broke some of my local network features (network service discovery).  Apart from that, the only other difference I noticed was that dead links for domains that no longer exist went to a Comodo page.  I can't say I noticed it being either any faster or slower than the one provided by my ISP.  Blocking of malicious domains would be a nice feature though (if it works as intended).
What I'm asking then is what is the experts view on using services like this?  Do they offer advantages for most people or are you better off sticking with the default ISP provided DNS.

A:Third party DNS servers. Advantages and disadvantages?

No expert....but after some hiccups in my ISP's DNS server I switched to OpenDNS a few years ago. No more hiccups and does
occassionally but rarely lets me know the site I attempted to go to is acting suspiciously or some other reason it is best to avoid.
I was reading an article this morning that you might be interested in. Just scroll down to the comments on DNS servers.

Hi there,

I consider myself to be fairly adept at using computers, whether that be Windows or Linux.
For a long time, I have run my computer without any antivirus in the background, and it is much faster than it would be otherwise.
Since I know what I am doing, I have never downloaded any kind of virus on my windows partition, although I know enough to remove most viruses in about 5 minutes, but anything with a rootkit takes me longer. If worse comes to worse, i can always just format reinstall, or just delete crap from my Linux partition, since my windows partition isn't used for anything besides games.

Given these type of scenarios, Why should Computer Technicians and IT Professionals use an Antivirus?
I keep all of my Malware Removal Tools up to date: MalwareBytes, Hijackthis, etc. and I know how to use them.
What purpose does an Antivirus have for skilled computer users?

A:Advantages and Disadvantages of running an Antivirus

Even experienced computer users make mistakes, you'd be lying if you said you didn't. You can accidentally click a malicious link, mistype a URL, etc. So having a layer of PREVENTION rather than cure, can take the hassle away from having to reformat. Most modern AV programs do not cause a noticeable slow down.

As far as I can see a core i5 4th generation CPUs with integrated HD 4600 graphic are suitable.

But which of the sub model versions should I take?

Are there any heavy disadvantages when using these CPUs rather than other core i5 4th Gen. models?

Hi All,

I've currently got my collection of mp3 files sorted into "album" folders, those folders are in "artist" folders, and those folders are in the main "music" folder.

| |-Album1
| | |-Song1.mp3
| | |-Song2.mp3
| | |-Song3.mp3
| |
| |-Album2
| |-Album1
| |-Album2
V etc

This has served me well for years, but due to various circumstances, I've been thinking about dumping everything directly into just one big "Music" folder. All of my filenames are standardized, so the music would sort itself out properly, and all of the songs are tagged properly also.

Before I go ahead and destroy my subdirectory structure, though, I want to know if anyone thinks having all of these files in one place would cause any problems (there's about 15,000 files taking up about 40 gig).

Does anyone else sort this way, or know of any reasons to avoid doing so?

A:[SOLVED] Benefits/Disadvantages to folder structures

I suppose it really boils down to personal preference. I personally use your current folder structure just because I like the organization of it. I also play through a media centre using third party plug ins that use the folder structure to get meta data off the net and add it to the folders. I am considering purchasing a small (11.6" screen) laptop which has Windows 10 pre-installed and has an 32GB SSD device - yes very small but very few small laptops have 64GB SSD or larger and they tend to be a lot more expensive than I want to pay since it won't be used a lot.

I intend to use the laptop ONLY when I am traveling and so will only install 2 or 3 applications taking around 2-3GB. I don't want to store images, songs or videos and if I do I will store them on an SD card (laptops usually have an SD slot).

I was thinking that to preserve as much free space on the C: drive (32GB SSD) that I install any programs I want on the SD card (and basically leave only Windows 10 on the C: drive).

What are the disadvantages installing software to a removable device (in this case an SD card which I will leave plugged in all the time) apart from maybe being a bit slower to load?

How much space does a typical Windows 10 take (NOT using NTFS compression)?

That question is where you are wrong.

If you buy a 32GB device it absolutely WILL use compression by default. You can check it by running the command compactOS as described here Compact OS - Compress or Uncompress Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

I'm a bit of a fan of compression (so take my claims with a pinch of salt as I might overstate them).

What I'll say though is uncompressed, Windows 64 bit (on its own) will take about 17GB. When you compress it (which will probably make your device faster) it will go to around 7GB. When you delete stuff you don't want (pointless apps) you'll get down to between 3 and 4.

I run 64 bit Windows with full Office 2010 and it takes just under 6GB.

You'll have a problem with upgrades at 32GB as the whole system is uncompressed before the procedure. I had to increase my space assigned from 20GB to 32GB as I could not upgrade even though Windows + Office is less than 6GB.

As for running programs from SD card, I have spent almost a month running the game Divinity Original Sin off a SD card as I didn't have enough space (20GB) to put it on my laptop. It worked absolutely fine - the heat problems were due to my feeble CPU and graphics on my MacBook Pro - not the SD card speed.

You have nothing to worry about there.

Today my boss got her new laptop from IBUYPOWER (Gaming Computers and Gaming Notebooks - Buy a new Gaming PC - iBUYPOWER). When I checked the package contents it included a slip of paper that has the Microsoft labeling with Windows 7/Windows Vista product key on it. When me and her chose the laptop we opted for the $25 dollar mail-in-rebate for the upgrade. I don't know about you guys but I was VERY surprised and am a little hesitant to perform an upgrade with the RTM ISO and type in the key...

What do you guys think?

A:IBUYPOWER gave out my boss' Win7 Upgrade Key today

I don't see that it wouldn't work, as long as you use the proper version that they key was provided for.
