Preferred Solution: Desktop Image + Taskbar Appears And Disappears After 10 Seconds

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have been having problems with some weird icon on the tray. The icon looks like a film strip and it appears and disappears in a total of about 30 times in less than 10 seconds. It only appears when I go to certain websites and those websites have nothing to do with eachother.

It doesn't make sense but I know that the program itself might be a codec I installed a while back that has to deal with video. It might be a video codec I installed because I have been having problems lately playing movies on WMP 9 (which I never had problems with until just recently).

So i've been using programs such as Divx Player and ViPlayer. I've thought it might've been one of those programs so I uninstalled both of them and the problem with the icon in the tray still is happening. I've had this problem before but I can't remember how I got rid of it, so that is why I am here.

So please, may someone help me with this?

btw, I've tried taking a picture of my desktop with the problem but it's either the icon that appears is way too fast or it just won't show up, sorry.

My computer is running really slow, and some *weird* things are happening. Like for instance...the page will suddenly "adjust" and move up a few inches or down a few inches on the screen. On the taskbar at the bottom a button will appear with just a picture of a page on it, no writting...then it disappears. It happens so fast, i can't click on it...Maybe that's a good thing. Anyway...here is my log...I appreciate you time and help.

Hello! I'm not sure exactly how but I believe I am infected with a virus or trojan that is continually causing the explorer.exe process to crash every few seconds on my computer.

When it crashes the taskbar and desktop icons disappear, only to reappear again when explorer.exe restarts....eventually explorer will

"give up" and stop appearing at all.

I can usually access everything through Windows Task Manager and restarting explorer.exe just begins the vicious cycle over again...

I have ran check disk and defrag...attempted a system restore (unsuccessful)...and even did a repair install from the windows disk....but

the problem still persists.

I have ran some virus & spyware programs but none seem to detect the problem and correct the issue (Spybot and Trend Micro Anti Virus)

The windows event viewer seems to indicate the crash is caused by winlogon.exe which I believe can be used by several viruses (I might not

be understanding this correctly though) Log(there are several of these of course):

The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted.

Whenever I access a folder containing pictures, the thumbnails for them generate -- and I can actually see them. But this only lasts for a few seconds; the thumbnails get replaced by Vista's generic landscape icon. I'm not sure when this problem started -- at first, I was not bothered by it, since I wasn't working with my photos, so I didn't pay attention to it. But it has persisted for at least a month, in all folders with pictures in them. And I've made sure that the "Show thumbnails" options were set in both "Folder Options" and "Advanced System Settings". Maybe it was from me changing the registry a long time ago? I'm not sure. So, if someone knows a key I could check to turn on/off thumbnails, that would be useful.Or, if you have any other idea how this problem occurred, I'd be really grateful. Thank you!

Whenever I boot up my X395 Thinkpad, an icon briefly appears and disappears at the lower center of my screen. It's a side view of a face, with a finger held up to the lips. I'm pretty sure it's a Thinkpad icon and not a Windows or app icon.It doesn't seem to be related to audio settings or mic settings, since these have their own icons. It seems to be telling me that something is being muted, but I don't know what.Any help appreciated!.

I've taken a look at your attached crash dumps. Multiple bugchecks, but there's a 9F: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE that may get us somewhere.

The faulting driver in the 9F crash dump is umbus.sys (User-Mode Bus Enumerator), which is much different than your traditional USB driver fault or crash. If my research is correct, this driver is used to detect certain installed devices.

Regardless, let's give this a try first:

start > search > devmgmt.msc > expand the tree "System Devices"

Once that's expanded, do "UMBUs Enumerator" or "UMBus Root Bus Enumerator" show any errors or flags?

If so, create a system restore point first before proceeding!

Vista - START | type rstrui - create a restore point

Windows 7 - START | type create | select "Create a Restore Point"

After creating the restore point, right click the device in DevMan and uninstall it. After doing so, restart Windows and let it reinstall it.

If said device(s) do not reinstall after a few reboots, try reinstalling them manually: control panel > add hardware > show all devices > system devices > Microsoft. You may need to OS disc.

All in all, if there are no flags or errors for what I mentioned above, your next step will want to be to enable Driver Verifier -

Driver Verifier:

What is Driver Verifier?

Driver Verifier is included in Windows 7, Windows Server 20... Read more

I have been using Remote Desktop for some time in Windows XP. Suddenly, whenever I access the remote computer, the taskbar and start menu have disappeared. I can't find any information on this anywhere - does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

A:taskbar disappears in Remote Desktop

Try right clicking the taskbar and selecting Properties. On the menu that comes up, check to see if "Keep the taskbar ontop of other windows" is checked, if not put the tick in it and click ok.

If it is, remove the tick, click ok, back to taskbar properties and replace the tick and click ok. Then try remote desktop again.

Hello and thank you in advance for your help. this is a friends computer and has been acting strange since they installed a game called escape the museum on their system. first when the game is opened the desktop settings change from 1152x864 to 800x600, after the game runs for a while a warning window pops up saying macromedia projector has encountered a problem and needs to close. the error is iml32.dll. when you click ok, the game closes and desktop is still 800x600, icons are large, and taskbar is gone. sometimes icons disappear also sometimes they just don't work. the only way to get it all back and working is to reboot the comp. here are the DDS,ATTACH, & ark.txt files. Whenever I open a program like Google Chrome or Spotify the taskbar disappears. If I need anything I'll press the start button but it disappears again once I go back to the program. And recently I haven't been able to use the start menu or even the desktop, I can't run shortcuts or shut down the computer. I can only run the shortcuts I have on the taskbar. What should I do?

Hello Emilia, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It sounds like you may have the program's window in F11 full screen mode. If so, you can press F11 to toggle between full screen and normal modes.

I wonder if someone can help me please,

I got windows 7 64 bit running, Since last two weeks I am having issues with desktop icon on my taskbar. Actually I have got this little screen icon on taskbar to easily minimise all the open windows when I click on the desktop icon on taskbar. But since last two weeks whenever I open any folder from (my computer > drive a> any folder from drive a) or any folder from any other drive or from desktop, my desktop icon from taskbar disappears. And when I close these open folders then this comes back. Its very announcing.
I want to see this icon on taskbar all the time as before.

Can you please help.

The only thing I can think of.

Right click on Start Orb and select Properties and then go to Taskbar at the top. Remove the check mark from Auto Hide Taskbar.

You could go to a restore point before all this happened.

I think it was before the windows 10 update when it started but my wallpaper will completely disappear and it goes back, and if i go to hover over my taskbar to make it appear, the icons are either in the wrong place (my volume icon will be on the left
instead of right and my start icon will disappear) or gone. Also on my taskbar, if I have any programs running with their shortcut pinned to my taskbar, the blue line indicating that the program is running will not show up. In order to get everything back
to normal, I have to ctrl+alt+del and restart it. Any way to fix this?

Try this just to see if this is the problem. Type "ctrl-alt-delete", open up "task manager". On the top, go to file --> "New Task (run...)" --> Type in "explorer.exe" and hit enter. Does this open up the start bar, icons, etc.?

This just happened a few hours ago. My desktop background is displaying the default XP grey colour. However, I have my background set to an image.

The image is there. When I load it up, it flashes on the desktop, but then the colour returns - almost as if the picture is hiding underneath the solid colour.

I have tried restarting my computer. Doesn't work.

And yes, the image is still on my computer. I've tried many other pictures as test, even the windows default ones, and the same thing happens - just get solid colour.

Any ideas?

A:Desktop appears as solid colour; should be image.

Not sure if this will be the cause, but try right clicking on desktop, select properties.
Click on the desktop tab then customise desktop.
Click on the 'general' tab andwhere it has 'My Current Home Page' with a tick box next to it, click it - so that if it's ticked you untick it and if it isn't ticked you tick it.

A long shot but worth a try..

I will keep pursuing getting mbam or something to work, but here are my details of last 2 hours of work, and searching Google and here. (Less than 4 char search is annoying).
Following rules:

2. Managed to run cleanmgr cli. Please note there is something like 7 seconds desktop is available. Before catching enough time to run cleanmgr, I was able to do this in a term window:
C:\temp: DIR shows file not found. RD says dir not empty. OK. left that.
c:/windows/temp lots of files did *.* and RD. ok.
After that I ran cleanmgr, not compress files, clean everything. It seemed to do so.
3. Safe mode still has come and go desktop, so unable to get into my computer long enough to get mbam off a usb key.
FYI This is a laptop running XP home with a SATA drive. At worst I'll remove drive and plug it in a desktop.
I have a computer online listening for email, a couple others for burning cd, usb d/l etc.

So now I await your advice here. In meantime I may try to pursue the problem. Possibly loading my Linux live cd, trinity rescue etc, but if responded to here, will let you take over.
My email is live and awaiting a response.

At the bottom of my desktop/screen, I can see a thin line of the top of the taskbar. I have the taskbar on auto-hide, but tried it locked, unlocked, hidden, etc.
I tried different resolutions, restarts, images, and moving it. (It does it on all sides of the screen.)
I tried detect and identify in the resolution feature.

I did have this problem before and can't remember what I did to solve it. It turned out to be simple, but I just can't get it this time.

(The thin blue line at the bottom of the image, not the big white vertical bar.)

A:Taskbar slightly peeks over desktop image when hidden

As far as I know, there's not much you can do about it. It has to be there so that your mouse pointer can activate it. The physical window that makes up the taskbar has to have a mouse hover message sent to it, and that requires part of it to be present on the screen. This is the way it's always been.

If i enter through safe mode, and safe mode with networking, the icons, taskbar, and start menu are there

yesterday, i deleted my AV (avg) due to my frustration, and then suddenly, when i entered normal mode, the icons, taskbar, start menu were back. When i tried to install bit defender AV, and then restarted my comp and enter through the normal mode again, the icons, taskbar, start menu weren't there again. Hi flobberangel,

It will require more than one round to properly clean your system. Please stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms seemingly abate.

Read through this entire procedure and if you have any questions, please ask them before you begin. Then either print out, or copy this page to Notepad and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions.

Hi, whenever I boot up my computer, explorer will either show up for about 2 minutes before disappearing, or will not show up at all. It is also absent from the list of processes. If I go into the Task Manager and try to execute explorer.exe as a New Task, the desktop and toolbar appear for maybe 20 seconds at max, then disappears, then comes back, then disappears, etc. It continues this cycle maybe four or five times in total, and then just stops loading altogether. The event log says of this: "The shell stopped unexpectedly and explorer.exe was restarted." I ran a TrendMicro Housecall and removed the malware that showed up there, and removed almost all of the malware there (some of it refused to leave, like Zango, but I don't think adware as mild as Zango could have caused this). Actually, this had happened to me once before, and to fix it I ran a System Restore to about a month before it happened, but luckily for me, there are no useful restore points as options this time around. Anyone know of a fix for this? Apparently it's not completely uncommon, but solutions I've come across via Googling seemed too specific to that person's case and didn't apply to mine.

I'm having a terrible issue with my slave DVD optical drive disappearing more than appearing when I boot up my computer. I noticed the problem in particular after I installed a PCI-E controller card that installs a JMicron JMB36X driver. It seems though this particular driver is causing my optical drive deciding when it feels wanting to appear or not after boot ups of XP.

MassCool is the company where this card came from and they are not much help to say the least. They did come out with a Windows 7 driver which I installed on my Windows 7 partitioned half of this HD. I do not have this problem at all when I boot up Windows 7 and both optical drives have always appeared in "My Computer" there.

I have tried going into the registry to remove the upper & lower filters associated with the CD/DVD devices in the XP partition as I read that could be a viable solution but I have no uppers or lowers existing so there was nothing to remove. Any suggestions to further troubleshoot this issue so i can have my card and my optical working as they should would greatly be appreciated.

Obviously I lose the site no matter my choice. Then a few days ago the popup stopped appearing and so did the site. Grateful for solution, with major thanks. CJ Brehme

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Are you highlighting this text while inside a browser? If so, which browser are you using when this happens? You might try removing each accelerator, restarting the computer and then putting each desired accelerator back one at a time (testing the context menu between each one).

https://www.slimwareutilities.com/slimdrivers.php now if you use this utility then do it with caution because like a lot of these types of programs they do carry some clutterware - plus when you have used it then uninstall it. If you are unsure of which to update post back and ask - no one here bites LOL!!
By the way getting rid of AVG to me was a good move as I used it years ago and found it rather lacking and intrusive.

But for starters it would not hurt to run these

firstly it restricts task manager frm working..task manager starts juz for a second and den vanishes....then it attacks IE or mozilla firefox and when u try to surf sum site it keep on opening many tab one after the other and smtimes redirect u..in sometime may even stop ur net access...then in create a directory in c:\ ...named ntdetec1..its hidden..and has system folder status so u may not see it..to see this folder u may need some settings in folder options...go to folder options and uncheck item call HIDE PROTECTED SYSTEM FILES ....nw go to c: u can see ths dirctory...but it can not get deleted...this directory has some dlls and sum exe files...frm ths folder i guess ntdetec operates..
i tried to del it by number of methods but all fails...ntdetec1 can not be detected by any known anti virus..evn norton hasnt detected nor avg..ntdetec1 directly modifies system files..which makes it difficult to remove it..

[warning : there is one more system file in c: called ntdetect.com...dont delete it otherwise everything will be finished..coz its windows component]

solution ::
when my laptop got infected by it i did everything but could nt remove it so i decided to format ..but i didnt...i juz inserted wid XP cd and repaired xp...and done when i entered sys again...virus was gone..but ntdetec1 folder was still there in the c:..right click on it and DEL...den dialog box says it contains sys... Problem: when I turn the monitor on I can see a display for about 2 seconds. The display disappears. If I turn the monitor off, then on, I can see the display for about two seconds, then it disappears again. The cycle continues. The symptom is the same with no signal input, and with input selected for VGA or for DVI.
If I shine a flashlight into the screen I can see a very faint display. I believe this indicates a backlight issue. I could be wrong.

Can anyone help me find a service/repair manual for this monitor?
Can anyone tell me what parts to look at for the backlight power?
Can anyone tell me what the voltage that drives the backlight might be?

Thank you all in advance, for your assistance.

A:HP w22 Monitor display disappears after about 2 seconds

Hi Bill,
this could be an issue with the inverter and not the backlight. LCD monitors are built just like laptop display panels, only bigger. Inverters are not that expensive. The backlights are very delicate, and they either light or they don't. The inverter takes 12 volts DC and turns it into hi-voltage (I don't know the exact rating) It may be AC... Also this could be a primary power supply issue too. I had to learn to repair without schematics. With experience, it becomes easy

Hi, when I try to sign in to my microsoft account via the store, cortana or settings, a grey box appears then after a couple of seconds will disappear. This means I cannot sign into my account at all! Any help much appreciated, I am running windows 10, on a HP laptop that used to run windows 7, also it is a 64 Bit. If you need any other information, please ask

can you make a screen dump of what is happening?
Were you using a local account or a Microsoft account before the upgrade?
Are you sure that Microsoft Store is working at all?
Did you try switching off Windows Update via the Services.msc? this will also cause the Store not to function anymore

can you login locally (not with a Microsoft account?)

Hi there,

Usually, I've been able to troubleshoot my PC woes and worries using my dear friend Google and/or some logic thinking. But there's something "strange" going on with my mediacenter-PC. As I've looked on these forums but couldn't find a solution (and to be honest : I'm baffled by this) : the following :

I was using Windows XP on my mediacenter until 2 weeks ago. No problems during playback whatsoever... Upgraded this system with Windows 7 recently, installed the Kazaa Lite Codec Pack + XBMC and experienced no problems during the installation. Upgraded the video (Nvidia 9600GT) and the audio drivers (provided on Gigabyte's site) and noticed during playback that the sound goes "off" after 15 minutes. It 'disappears' for 2 seconds and comes back again.

My setup : the motherboard : GA-MA74GM-S2H -> this is connected with an S/PDIF cable to my audio system (JVC amplifier) and the symptoms I see are :
- sound goes off
- my amplifier shows "Linear PCM" for a second
- the sound comes back and continues after 2 seconds

So, reinstalled Windows 7 again, didn't install any updates or extra drivers for the soundcard (just the Kazaa codec pack) and tried again with Media Player Classic (included in the codec pack) > same problem again.

Might anyone have any suggestions?
thanks a lot!

PS : I've included a screenshot of my device manager, the current sound properties and [not sure if this is related], the volume control options.

A:Sound 'disappears' after 15 minutes and returns 2 seconds later

I would start with a clean install of Win 7, motherboard chipset drivers and system device drivers (and install Windows 7 specific drivers). DO NOT install any additional software such as the referenced codec pack. Use the built in Windows Media Player and see if works OK or if you have problems. If it works OK, then start adding wthatever software you want, one program at a time and then check to see if it works OK before adding anything else.

Also, as you upgraded from XP, how much memory do you have? You need a minimum of 2GB of RAM for Win 7 and as you have the 64 bit version I would go with a minimum of 4GB.

this problem seems to have gotten to many people... when watching a video sound is gone after viewing it a few seconds, and the video is still running, u have to press pause and play over and over again to have the sound
some people get a problem where videos pause for no reason , so once again "pause, unpause and its playing" (for a few seconds)
im talking about most video streaming sytes, youtube has some videos like that , other than that , http://www.cha.lt/category/video/ in here , all videos are like that, in the past days the video comments are full of tears because of that
maybe someone has any solutions?
