Need to install drivers that aren't compatible with Windows 8

Q: Need to install drivers that aren't compatible with Windows 8

I recently spent about 100 dollars on something that requires drivers to be used, and it does not support Windows 8. It only allows Windows 7 and Windows XP, so i need to know how to get past this and install them anyway. I have tried running it in compatibility mode, but this doesn't install the drivers properly. I am willing to install emulators for running XP or 7, if needed. Please help.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Apparently, this issue has been mentioned here previously. See,

Asus EEE PC1000H + Card Reader Driver

Generally, I am not concerned with my SD card reader as the OP of the above thread was yet, I am concerned regarding the need for appropriate drivers. So far, the Win7 install behaves well with the lone exception of an odd display of two rows of four tabs of Chrome when I attempted to return to my browsers home page yesterday following the install. Every use of Chrome since this lone bad example has been fine. The Intel 945 (?) chipset driver was upgraded after the install was completed.

I did not activate my Win7 during install so, I have 30 days to do so. My WEI is 2.2 in view of the Atom N270 but, the response of the OS is good because, I coupled the Win7 with a Samsung 840 PRO 256 Gb SSD.

I contacted ASUS regarding use and compatibility of the XP drivers that remain available for the 1000H but, this sounds like a lost cause.

Any advise?

Hi all,

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 (32 bit), but now my Lexmark All-In-One X74-X75 printer drivers aren't compatible... well, kind of.

When I first reinstalled the drivers after the upgrade, I was able to use the scan facility of the printer, and print jobs could queue up for printing, but they would not print. When I attempted to update drivers, uninstall/reinstall, etc, I was told the installation was unsuccessful.

I could not find any drivers for my model printer on the Lexmark site, but I was hoping someone out there may have some tips on how I can get around this problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

OK so i had been through the whole beta driver scenario with amd's latest windows 8 drivers and it resulted in bsod's...which led me to download and install the stable but old drivers which led to my games having fps drops ,which i think is related to the drivers because with the beta drivers i was getting good fps's , not so much with the stable one's , anyways the question is should i go back to windows 7 because many people including myself are having compatibility issues with windows 8,windows 8.1 when it comes to amd's beta drivers( or just their drivers in general), while the vast majority are having no problems with their windows 7.

Hi!

After initially working fine on Windows 7 64-bit for several months my old HP Laserjet 1100 stopped working all of a sudden 3 months ago for good. Hey all, I recently installed an SSD in my old y580 laptop and reinstalled windows 10 but windows is registering the touchpad as a mouse plugged into the PS/2 port. As such, the touchpad inputs are far from optimized and no multi-finger gestures are being recognized (including scrolling  ). The previous HDD recently died but definitely used elan/synaptics drivers. I've had this problem occur on other Lenovo laptops and I've seen others posting about it on here, but never for the y580 and I've never been able to solve it. I've downloaded all of the touchpad drivers on the support page for my serial number but none of them go up to windows 10 and all of them result in an error message that reads that the Realtek Bluetooth Suite isn't compatible with this version of windows. I've also downloaded 15-20 different drivers for windows 10 elan/synaptics touchpads from varying newer lenovo laptops but none of them recognize my touchpad either. Any help would be super appreciated.

I have just upgraded to Windows 8 Pro from the Consumer Preview. I am using a Virgin Media supplied Netgear WNDA3200 network adapter to connect to a Virign Media Superhub, but the drivers for the adapter don't seem to work with the release version of Win8. I had the same issue with the CP of Win8, but was able to resolve it by downloading the 1.2 version of the WNDA3100 driver from the Netgear website. I have tried this and all the other WNDA drivers including the windows 8 beta ones, but the adapter still isn't working.

It seems odd to me that it would work in the CP, but not in the full release version of Windows 8.

If anyone has any ideas as how to go about solving this issue, they would be much appreciated.

EDIT:

After much frustration, I figured out the issue. It turns out that the adapter had defaulted to running one of microsoft's drivers, which was not working correctly. To get around this, you need to make sure you already have the driver installed, then search for "Device Manager" in settings (without quotes), and open Device Manager. Once it's open, sroll down to Network Adapters, and expand that. Then double click on the adapter. It should open a small window. Navigate to the 'Driver' tab, and select 'Update driver'.

From there, go to 'Browse my computer for driver software', click 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer', and click the 'Have Disk' option. Browse to where the driver is installed (usually under ProgramFiles(x86)\Ne... Read more

2 weeks ago, I think it was a Monday, my sister turned off the computer for the night... the next morning she turned it on and the mouse didn't work.

The mouse is USB connected and isn't responding. The red light on the bottom is turned on, but it won't move the cursor. When I plugged in my Mp3 player, it didn't really respond, just the Charging screen flashes every few seconds, then turns off again...

And when I go to 'My Computer', the places where 'Driver E-J' usually is, is gone. It's just blank slots where they should be, then shows 'Erin's Documents', 'Shelly's Documents' files....

Is this a virus or something else?

We've been running the full version of Stop Sign over and over again hoping it would find something, but it doesn't pick anything up.

Hey guys,

Just a bit of backstory - I bought a Logitech webcam, which requires SP2. Due to certain circumstances *cough* I cannot acquire SP2. I popped the install disc in anyway, but a box just popped up saying I needed SP2 to continue. That was the end of that, and I returned the webcam.

So I got home... speakers weren't working. dxdiag doesn't recognise a sound card at all. I went into device manager, and all the sound drivers had !'s next to them. I uninstalled them all and reinstalled the Realtek '97 drivers, then restarted, but it was exactly the same.

I uninstalled the drivers again, the just rebooted. This time it had some !'d stuff about Microsoft Kernel (still under sound).

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop with 1GB of RAM and known good HDD. I ran memtest 86 for 12 hours with no errors. The BIOS sucks and has no options for ACPI, power management, or even serial/parallel port addressing, only boot order, system info, and password. The only device option in the BIOS besides video memory (tried every setting there) is legacy usb support (tried that too). I've been googling for 2 hours about this and found the whole F5 and F7 thing for XP, but I'm not sure if there's a similar option in 7 to only use Standard HAL. There's no Press F6 prompt in 7 install to press F7 at.

Hello! First post here for me. Seems like a good forum/community.

After replacing the motherboard/CPU and reinstalling Windows 7, my disks aren't showing up. See screenshots for more details:

The two dark green partitions on the two 2TB disks are a software raid setup in my previous installation of Windows 7, using the same Disk Management window you see in the screenshot. For whatever reason this new install of windows is having problems with my hard drives. It does however see the main partition on the first 2TB disk but none on the second 2TB disk. I can right click on the partitions on the disks or the disks themselves and 'Reactivate' it but that has no effect.

Something else - Disk 0 had the same problem which I tried to solve by deleting a smaller (unused) partition of the two partitions that were on there. To my annoyance both partitions got deleted.
Is there a simple way to recover the lost partition on this drive?

I don't dare delete either of the two software raid partitions fearing that it might delete a much bigger partition. This will be the last time I'll be using the partition management software that's build into windows...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:HDD's aren't showing up after a re-install of Win7

Welcome to Sevenforums! Sorry help for your problem has been slow. Hopefully someone with raid experience will come along.

Not knowing anything about your raid setup, should the missing drives have a drive letter?

My advice is to download Best Free Partition Manager Freeware and free partition magic for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP 32 bit & 64 bit. MiniTool Free Partition Manager Software Home Edition. Look on the left side of the page for Bootable CD and burn a CD to boot your PC. Partition Wizard is close to 100% reliable. It has tools to explore your partitions and can do things Disk Management can't.

You might have problems in the future having the System Reserved partition on Disk 3.

HI, I just installed windows 2000 professional onto my computer. Everything works fine except that the resolution is really grainy. On some web sites I cannot even make out what the words are. I found out that when I go into my monitor settings in display properties I am unable to install the drivers for my monitor. Does anybody know a way in which I can get around this.

A:monitor drivers unable to install on fresh windows 2000 install

Are you really referring to the monitor drivers or the Dispay Adapter drivers? The symptoms you describe sound like the latter issue.

Monitor drivers are no big deal to install, and even if you don't, Windows should use compatible plug and play drivers. Still it's a good idea to install them -- but you get them from the Monitor vendor site. You get the Display Adapter drivers from the Display Adaptor vendor's site.

What Display Adapter model do you have? And are they properly installed?

To install a Monitor driver, you download and unzip the .inf file from the Vendor. Then you select "update driver" and browse to the location of the file you unzipped. Once installed your Monitor should be recognized by model number.

Used the drivers on the installation cd for Windows 2000 non-raid per instruction manual on the cd. Main board is seeing the card w/o any problems. When I move the IDE cable from mother board to new controller card and reboot system, no drives are detected. The jumper on hd is set as master and jumper on cd-rom is set as slave. Any help would be appreciated.

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite C50 loaded with windows 8 but want to revert to windows 7.

I have downloaded the necessary drivers and have mounted the .exe files onto a USB pen for installation.

Before I proceed to wipe windows 8 I'd like to know - if I install 7, will my trackpad stop functioning?

If so, how do I install the relevant drivers from the USB pen?

Thanks, John

A:Clean install of windows 7 - how to install drivers from USB memory stick?

99.9% sure that W7 will identify the trackpad and install it. You just run the exe's using file explorer or Start >Run then browse. You may decide to leave the laptop as the W7 install left it but you should check Device Manager to ensure there are no unrecognised devices

Hello everyone,
this is my first time here. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this problem, as it has made everything grind to a halt.

My main computer just died, so I figured I'd take my old computer, which was never hooked up to the internet (in order to always keep it clean as a baby's rear end), and use it to run either diagnostics and/or data recovery software on my malfunctioning C drive from my dead computer.

The old computer had XP pro sp2 on it, with a P4 3.4 processor, and an Intel board. The first obstacle, was getting it online. Simply plugging in the networking cable did nothing. After endless amounts of reading, it seems that because they computer was never meant to be online, the networking (or "LAN"?) drivers were never installed. After many tries and much confusion, I finally had someone find them online for me, put the drivers on a thumbdrive, and after a few attempts I was able to get this old girl connected. But I must say, for those who don't really know what they are doing very well, the procedure for setting up the network connections was anything but easy. The automated system for doing it failed every time. No reason way. So I finally managed to do it manually, somehow. To be honest, I don't even remember now. When you attempt to do something for 12 hours in a row, trying every possible solution, it's easy to forget specifics.

Anyway, I got hooked into the internet. The next step was upgrading to SP 3, which I had already p... Read more

After tapping F8 is there a selection called Disable Autorestart on System Failure? Select it and the next time you boot the BSOD will stay on the screen.

My mouse, keyboard, usb dac, and virtual dvd drive are all having problems with drivers. I can plug my keyboard in wherever I want and use it in the bios, but once i get to windows, i have a whole two usb ports that my keyboard works in anymore. This is the result of a number of failed attempts by windows to find and install generic driver software, which I don't actually need (because the keyboard works just fine in some ports, and before i accidentally let windows try to find the drivers, it worked smoothly in the others as well). This is the case for all of the listed devices. Whenever I ask windows to install driver software, it tells me that i have to insert a disc (incidentally, none of these devices come with discs because windows si supposed to have the drivers by default). When I click other options and set it to browse my entire drive for drivers, it gives me an error message that says that it found driver software, but the selected file could not be found. For everything. and then whatever it is, is unable to work in that port again. I tried downloading microsofts intellipoint drivers, and that didn't work. Please, help me fix this so I dont have to re install?

A:Windows can't install drivers on its own, won't let me manually install.

It sounds like you're not logged in as the administrator?

If you right click on one of the .exe files and select "run as administrator", does that work.

I was actually getting ready to post here about my x00000124 problem but reading other posts realized that my motherboard drivers were freakishly out of date (2006 versions, forgot about them last time I was installing a system). I dled all new ones, installed them all, performed a restart and then used newly installed ASUS Suite to update my BIOS.

Not sure if that's relevant, but after that last successful startup there was a bunch on popups asking for promision to launch several application (related to the driver update I imagine). I agreed to all of those and nothing beyond that happened.
I did not restart computer again before performing BIOS upgrade.

BIOS itself seems to work just fine.

When I attempted to start system with new BIOS my computer restarts about 1 sec after starting animation begins. I can only launch it in "Startup Repair" mode and it communicates that automatic repair was impossible. For those reasons i can't provide that archive with dumps and whatnot. Safe Mode isn't working either.

I'll rewrite problem signature "System Repair" provided:

Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
2: 6.1.7600.16385
3: unknown
4: 21199297
5: AutoFailover
6: 2
7: BadDriver
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

Forgive me shitty formatting but am on the phone right now.

Hi, I recently downgraded my computer to Windows XP because I prefer that OS over windows 7, But now I need to install my drivers included in my laptop, But when I do The device will not start or will not install.. Someone please help (Also, Please do not tell me to upgrade back to 7 as I do not have the disks or the money to do so.).

A:Drivers Not Compatible

your best bet is to go to the acer website for that model to get the drivers, my acer is an even earlier model that was originally recorded as vista/W7, so i doubt if your going to be successfull.

note if your PC was originally W7 you can use the factory restore option no cost involved

I am hearing that ms has stopped support for xp. So i am planning to switch to server 2003, which has an extended support for upto 2010. I downloaded a trial version of the server 2003 r2 enterprise edition with service pack 2, installed it as second os and updated the os to latest fixies. The very first stumbling blok came as i was installing the drivers.

it says the drivers are not compatible for the os. the only driver that was installed was the chipset driver and the ethernet card. i have one extra d-link ethernet card installed in the pci slots. the graphics drivers are also the default drivers that came with the os.

other devices is also showing a yellow question mark(pic included)

i probed for the high definition audio drivers for my motherboard and server 2003 the one that came did not install.

then somebody suggested to change the property of the install file and make it compatible to xp. i did that too. but during installation it said that the xp installed is not service pack 2. so that option too failed.

i am giving all the details of my system. thanks in advance:

A:compatible drivers?

Welcome!

The answer is almost certainly yes, you can run Windows 7. Be sure to run the upgrade adviser, first, just to make 100% sure.

I'd say go into device manager and see if they are recognized.
Just type device manager into the start menu

Whenever I try to install the newest video drivers from Nvidia (182.50) my computer will not detect the driver at all. There is no nvidia control panel or anything, almost as if I had never installed drivers. When I install previous drivers it runs normal. Only when I try to install the newest driver it borks on me. Here's what I have tried so far

downloading from the manufacturer
re-downloading from nvidia
removing old drivers first
reseating the card.
reformating the computer

Here are my current system specs
Mobo: P4M800PRO-M
CPU: Prescott P4 3.0 GHz
RAM 2048MB DDR1 400 GSkill ram x2
VGA: eVGA 7600GT AGP

Any and all help is appreciated :D
