I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello

As regards the first question, it depends on whether you want a updated malware pack or not.
Here: ytisf/theZoo · GitHub, It is a file that contains many old malware but that are great to analyze.
If you want fresh malware, I recommend you to download them from malwr.com (you must login).
With a little patience you can create a good collection of new malware.

Zippyshare does not open? Sometimes the web protection by some antivirus programs (Webroot for example) blocks as malicious Zippyshare site because the page is full of ads that make it impossible to see the main page.
Install uBlock Origin extension of your browser (Firefox, Opera or Chrome) and try again.

A:transfer a large amount of data

The problem is not with software. The problem is with the fact that your computer can only process so much data, when moving it from one drive to another. It is all about how those drives are connected, how fast of a CPU you have, how much RAM you have, how much available space on the drive in your computer and the ones you are moving data too and from for buffer space. Last is what the drives are rated, along with enclosures for max data allowed.

I have over 50 GB of data I need to send over the web. What are my options?

After brainstorming a bit, the best two ideas I could come with are a data backup service (like Mozy) where I back the data up to a remote server, and my friend can than access that backup, or SFTP, which I do not know much about.

Any ideas?

A:Transfer large amount of data via web

If you don't mind uploading your files in 100MB or smaller chunks and your friend will only need to access them within a few days of the upload, you could use the free version of YouSendIt:

Second try at having someone help me with a recurrent BSOD. The last time I just formatted the drive and reinstalled Win 7.
This problem has been happening to me ever since I bought the laptop:
I get BSODs transfering large amounts of USB data (10 GB or more), sometimes it's just when I connect my usb mouse and I have a usb hard drive attached, but I've stopped using usb disks because of that. This happened since I bought the laptop, and the motherboard has since been changed (unrelated issue, I think - wouldn't turn on), and the OS reinstalled multiple times. It's also an issue with ubuntu (system hangs), although in linux it happens less often. It happens before updating the OS, as well as after updating it with SP1.

Specs:
Toshiba L650-1EQ (specs)
Windows 7 x64

The laptop is one year old.

hello, thanks for reading my problem.i have this computer, the system(xp) would not boot, so i checked hard drive with hirens, it passed, then i checked the memory and the 1 512mb module it had in was faulty.so i replaced the faulty module and tried to boot the machine up and still it would not boot into o/s.so i booted up linux and noticed the windows folder and program files were mostly empty. so i did a chkdsk.but to no avail. still missing files.so i then rang up my friend that own's the computer and told her i will just backup her data and format the machine. she said perfect, just backup the usual in a profile and also accounting software(thersaurus), which should be on the root of the c drive, so i started the backup of the profile, but when i went to the root there was no accounting software folder.so i ran data recovery getdatback & easeus but no luck it sees all the files im looking for the accountant software folder plus the windows and program files folders are all full aswell, but it says there deleted. if you recover your just recovering corrupted data.i then noticed some folders on the root of c drive you know the one like this(in the 1st image).the folder named 6e6a35ee08425ee56848f0d419cc5a has over 40 gigs of data. now all that is in that folder is large dat and jpg files like this (in second image)do any of you's know what's going on with this, because im clueless.

A:Large dat files & jpg's lost data

Well...just guessing but graphics files you reflect...are probably not graphics files. Those would, IMO, more likely be video files of some sort...if indeed they can be read/viewed at all.

<<...so i ran data recovery getdatback>>

I have a license for GetDataBack - NTFS. I haven't tried a large number of data-recovery programs, but I have respect enough for its performance to have purchased the license. If it cannot recover files, I would write them off as unrecoverable.

No data-recovery program is guaranteed to work...even if it does apparently "recover" files, they may be so corrupted/damaged that they cannot be taken at face value.

<<...the folder named 6e6a35ee08425ee56848f0d419cc5a has over 40 gigs of data.>>

Temporarary folders are often given filenames such as that...by backup/reocvery applications, IME.

In short, I have only guesses and no answers.

What is better when moving large amounts of files and data (20+) to either copy or cut the files? Or does it not make a difference?

I was told cutting fragments your hard dive while copying does not.

If you Copy, you aren't moving anything. Cut will move it though. w7 will auto defrag your drive at any rate.

Hi all,

A whole series of files of mine are suddenly shown as 0 bytes.

They all seem to be in the same folder + subfolders, and be quite large, around the 1GB mark, or larger.
Any idea how I can recuperate them, or what this is?
I've ran chkdsk /f /r, but without any luck.

I've checked for the hard disk health, and it passes all non mega-thorough tests.

I've ran Malware Bytes and Avast, both of which didn't show any infections.

I've booted up from an Ubuntu Live USB, and the files also appear as 0 bytes there.

Maybe I should add I very recently switched to Windows 10, and these files are in my data hard disk, which is separate from the Operating System one.
Many thanks in advance
PS. Apologies, if this is maybe in the wrong forum?

I have several large files I would like to save to disc to free up storage. Also I would like to make emergency back-ups of games in case the original discs are damaged, lost, etc. I only have a CD-RW drive so, my question is: Can I only use CD-Rs/CD-RWs to save? I'd prefer to save them on DVDs because of the large amount of storage space and I've heard they will not deteriorate as fast as a CD.

A:Saving large amounts of data, etc. to disc

If you have only a CD drive then you may only use cd media.
I suggest that you get a copy of Norton Ghost.
Norton Ghost will allow you to backup your files or the whole disk drive.

Hi,
This must be a chore for you guys. :-)

I am running Windows on an MSI 7360 Motherboard under the latset BIOS (1.A0) I have 2 Western Digital HDDS. (250Gbyte)

Everything runs fine for weeks on end. I can play some pretty intensive games (Far Cry 2, Civ 5 etc) no problems.
However, as soon as I try and transfer a large file from one HDD to another (either between the two HDD's above or to and from an external Maxtor drive I have) I get a BSOD.

Generally it is a 0x124, but there are some others mixed in.

For example. I downloaded the client for Lord of the Rings online onto one drive and installed it from the client download onto the other drive.
I got a BSOD.
So I thought I would install it on the same drive the download was on - again I got BSOD.
Sometimes when I am downloading large updates (generally 1 gig plus) at some point I will get a crash.

I downloaded Seagate HDD tester and ran the long test through DOS on both drives (3 hours in total) NO errors reported. I ran Memtest86 for 6 hours sold , 4 hours generic then individually on each stick of RAM with no errors reported.

I reformatted the HDD's and re-installed Windows 7 - but the errors continued when I tested.

I'm beginning to think it's my motherboard - a dry joint problem. I don't want it to be that as that's major work (I might as well get new CPU and memory if I replace mobo)

Here is the last "Who Crashed" dump. I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to have a ... Read more

A:BSODS when moving large amount of data

Hi -

Info on 0x124 - http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-loc...-what-try.html

I also see that McAfee is listed as the probable cause in the 0xa bugcheck BSOD. Remove it.

McAfee Removal - http://jcgriff2.com/A-V_Removal_Tool...e_Removal.html

Reboot upon completion. Install MSE - http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

While hardware is the likely cause here, it would be prudent to run the Driver Verifier to see if it flags any 3rd party problematic drivers -

Run D/V after McAfee is removed.

Please help, its way too much data to go through the old fashioned way. Thanks.

A:Excel: deleting large amts. of data

Sort by the column that contains the zeros (making sure you have also selected the column containing the dates as well).
Then block delete the two rows of dates and zeros.
Then resort by date, again making sure both columns are selected (or the sort will not keep them together)

Assumes date order is chronological in the first place.

I just updated Avast Anti Virus to the latest version Saturday night/Sunday morning and today I saw that the "avastsvc.exe" file downloaded 60MB of data for no reason. All automatic updates are disabled and are set to manual only. Any ideas what is going on and how I can disable it from doing this?

I am on a metered satellite connection and I cannot have programs randomly downloading large amounts of data without any kind of permission to do so. This was not a problem until the latest update, previous versions never did this. I double checked my settings and both definitions and program updates are set to manual updates and checking only so I can do it after midnight during my free bandwidth time. I have a very small monthly bandwidth limit and already struggle with Windows downloading unknown stuff without permission (even with all auto updates disabled) and cannot afford to have another program to deal with downloading files without permission as well too now.

I would have posted on the Avast forums for help however their site did not like my email address when I attempted to create an account and it now just gives an error and I can't access their forums even just to browse, and I don't see where I can send an actual support request to the company.

Hi there,

Was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm experiencing an extremely slow internet connection. My internet connection is a Starband 480 (higher bandwidth satellite than the 360). Now the satellite has it's own problems but what's concerning me is that I've noticed is my upload bandwidth.

I use NetPerSec to monitor the traffic on my computer. In the past week or so, I've noticed that every now and then something is sending over 1 MBits/sec from my computer. I can close all the visible programs and it still occurs. Unfortuantely, there is no pattern as to when it happens.

I've run Spyblaster and Spybot with updates as of yesterday (2/16/04) and everything is good according to them.

Hi there
Just wondering how people handle backing up large volumes of DATA and performing recoveries if required from this data. Now as cheap 3TB disks are readily available and by using Spanning or Storage pools you can get very large data spaces of say 12 TB for example.

Now things like acronis can actually handle large volumes of data - backup will just request another volume when the first one is full so you might for example have 7 external USB disks being used for a backup.

With this huge volumeof data you can't just keep one or two disks around and then look for something with Windows explorer if you need to recover some data. So are there any decent Cataloguing systems out there yet suitable for HOME users. I don't need something like a Bank would use to recover data (and judging by recent performances it can take them a WEEK !!).

Anybody got any ideas - this sort of question I'm sure will become more important soon = I'd hate to lose say 2 TB's worth of Music for example.

Years ago tape systems were common -- they though were EXPENSIVE, SLOW and unreliable but they used to have decent cataloguing systems.

I'd like to have some sort of program that says xxxxxxx backed up on ddmmyy on volumes xxxx, yyyy.

If you need to recover some data :

The current backups usually insist you put the LAST volume of the backup in (assuming you know which disk it is) and then after a load of reads finally ask you to mount volume YYYY in the backup set -- also if you know what... Read more

Hello -

So, because of this thread, Unable to recognize USB flash drives (All), I backed up all the files which were on my old flash drive onto my roommate's iMac (this was because the iMac recognized the 32GB flash drive, and the PC I was previously using it on all of a sudden did not).

What I'm wanting to do, either by remote desktop, SFTP, or some other transfer protocol, is transfer the one folder with all of the data (about 18GB or so) from the iMac over the PC using the network.

What is the easiest way? I've enabled remote desktop on my Win7 machine, and I am able to remotely connect from the iMac to my PC using my private 192.168.x.x IP address. However, I'm not able to drag and drop the folder onto my desktop to initiate the transfer.

Can someone guide me into the right direction? Or, should I not even use remote desktop for this? Thanks.

18 gig transfer is going to take much longer than perhaps fixing why your pc doesnt recognize the flash drive.

Hi, im new to this forum so i hope im not breaking any rules by just coming right out with a problem!

i built myself a new computer recently and although it's not the first one i've ever built, i'm certainly no expert. i was getting lots of BSODs right from day 1, but when i swapped out the PSU for a larger one, everything seemed ok.

but when i started copying all my stuff onto the hard drives i started getting BSODs again. whenever i transfer more than a few GB of data, either from one HDD to another, or from a DVD to a HDD, the computer bluescreens.

occasionaly a BSOD will happen out of the blue, even if im not actually doing anything, but transfering more than 4GB or so of data is guaranteed to give me a BSOD.

i tried various diagnostics like memtest86 but everything comes up fine. but when i swapped the system drive for a different hdd with linux, transfering data works fine. so i'm fairly certain it's either some element of windows or the ssd that windows is installed on.

i turned on driver verifier and got another bluescreen, and ran the sf diagnostic so i've attached my dumps

i really hope someone can help me with this, thanks

I have a program that I usually run on a Win7 PC but occasionally run on a Win10 PC. The program reads about 2.1GB of data into storage from an SSD drive. On my Win7 system this read takes about 26 seconds. On the Win10 system it takes 4 minutes.

The two PCs have different configurations, but neither is s slouch:
Win7 x64 Pro Intel i7-4771, 3.50Ghz, 16GB RAM
Win10 x64 Pro Intel i7-930, 2.80GHz, 6GB RAM

The performance characteristics of the SSDs are different, but not enough to cause the performance difference. The average read transfer rate is 373.8 MB/sec on the Win 7 drive vs. 230.5 MB/sec on the Win 10 drive. (I don't know the blocksize used in the speed test, but I don't know the blocksize of the data files either.)

The RAM size is an obvious big difference between the two boxes, but once the data files are loaded I'm using just a little over 4GB on both systems so I'm not running out of storage.

I see a huge behavioral difference when viewing the loading using Process Explorer. On the Win 7 box there is a big burst of I/O and cycle use for those 26 seconds. On the Win 10 box there are short bursts of activity (about 5, as I recall) with very long pauses in between. It's almost as though program's I/O was being throttled, but I don't think that's the case. One of the bursts activity (the 2nd or 3rd) is always much longer than the others - 4 or 5 times longer. The amount of activity does not seem to (directly) cause the pauses. The program read... Read more

The situation is as follows: I've got a computer that doesn't show particularly high CPU usage, but multiple instances of explorer.exe spawn and take up lots of memory, up to 2BG of ram each.
Based on looking at the network traffic for this computer on my router it looks like it's connecting to web sites and downloading video files, .mp4 and .flv files. I'm assuming these files are being stored in ram by explorer.exe somehow and this is whats using up all the ram.

Internet explorer doesn't seem to work, most of the time it simply doesn't load web pages, so it's probably part of the infection or infected by the same virus.

Also while multiple instances of explorer.exe are running GPU utilization goes up to 100% as reported by process explorer, I'm not really sure why that is happening.

Unfortunately I've already tried running Malwarebytes, combofix, Eset's online scanner, Kaspersky's online scanner andTrend Micro's online scanner earlier today. Combofix deleted a couple of files but that's it, nothing else is finding anything, the problem seems to still be there tho. It looks like dllhost.exe and svchost.exe are probably involved because even in safe mode while the computer isn't doing anything at all these services will spawn and sometimes despawn and will respawn each-other if killed.

A:Possible virus downloading large amounts of data in background

Well eventually after looking at the IPs that it was connecting to using Wireshark. One of the IPs was 31.128.104.126. Searching that resulted in a page suggesting it was associated with the TR/Gamarue.A.99 virus. Searching that indicated that Avira actually would have some success finding and removing it.

Despite the fact that no other antivirus scans found any of these things avira found the following.

TR/Gamarue.A.99
e2h[1].htm - html/iframe.arx2
cpc[1].htm - js/iframe.el.2
vsvusgvu.exe - tr/kuluoz.a.87
costcoform_overland_park.exe - tr/kuluoz.a.87 trojan

As well as a bootrecord virus boo/cidox.b.
Avira was able to remove all the other viruses and I was able to find instructions on this site to use Kaspersky's TDSSKiller to remove the boot record virus and was successful there. After that everthing was mostly better except IE was having problems loading some pages. A quick restore/repair of IE's default settings seems to have fixed that. I'll be keeping my eye on the computer for a while to make sure there's no weird memory or GPU utilization, and I'll never know what sort of stuff that virus was up to in the background using up to 4gb of RAM with explorer.exe but at least it seems to be gone.

Greetings all??

I am having problems transferring large files between drives. I just put together a new image editing box and have been migrating from WinXP to Win 7 pro 64bit. Except for the few annoying things Win 7 offers like UAC and not letting my open or have access to my own files I like it. I am having a problem though. For years while using XP I would backup to multiple drives just by highlighting large groups of data and dragging it a different/backup drive whether it be internal or external and never had issues. With my new system this is not the case. If I transfer a group of files (about 700gigs worth) mostly images to a freshly formatted 2TB WD MyBook located on a USB 3.0 port and at some point it will BOSD. The time it takes to do this is pretty random, but it never completes the task. The system is fresh with all drivers up to date and the latest Bios. I have been reading for three days now on different reasons this could happen and have come up empty. I would very much appreciate any help that would at least point me in the right direction.

Here is the latest .dmp file. I have several but they are pretty much the same. As much as I try to understand it, it's over my head.

Hello I have a "little" problem.
When i start downloading large data files with multiple connections (it does not matter which download manager i use - flash get, jdownloader, IDM) it starts to consume a lot of MB until it consumes all of it, but when i close the download manager only about 200 MB becomes free (before downloading started i had used only 900/2048 MB and after closing download manager, it is used ~1800 MB / 2048 MB and there is no program in task manager which would consume such a lot of memory and i can free the ram only by restarting computer. This happens to me on celan RC version and even on clean RTM version.
I have quite a fast conenction 50/50 Mbps so the RAM runs out quite fast (in 15 minutes i have no free ram).
This happens only in Win7 (in Vista, XP it downloads without any memory leak using the same download managers)

Does anyone have the same problem or know how to solve it?
THX

//EDIT: I have 32bit systems; see My System Specs under this post to view HW ane please vote only if you are downloading in Win7
//EDIT2: Problem solved - since i uninstalled nod32, i have had no memory issues

Hi There,

I have read a few of the stickys relating to large amounts of data and malware and it says not to follow the procedure as it was for that user only, so I hope I'm doing the right thing here by posting my own thread?

I have for the past month or so wondered why my ADSL cap is reached almost near the beginning of the month and see that large amounts of data are being transferred up, for instance just yesterday, I downloaded 1GB and also uploaded 911MB which I know both are not correct!

How am I able to determine what is sending this data, so that I can disable, delete, uninstall it? I also don't know if the stats on the line are accurate?!?

I've run Windows Defender and Norton 2012 Reputation Scanners and all seems fine.

Please help, I'm unsure of whether some malware has crept into my system undetected.

Kind Regards,
Riaan

Hi there,

About two days ago I noticed my internet speed was becoming intermittent and much slower. I originally thought this was an ISP problem as I've had issues there previously, but everything is stable their end and my phone does not experience the same issues.

I looked at the data packets sent and received and in the past 45 mins my laptop has uploaded over 350MB of data whilst receiving only 60MB. I have not tried to upload anything at all (and never do).

The uploading is choking my internet speed to the extent that downloading things has become an issue.

I have run virus scans using AVG (Free) and McAffee (Subscription that came with my laptop). I also have ZoneAlarm (Free) installed on my laptop.

Below are the results of the SysInfo:

I created a new database that contains several different tables with relationships, auto number fields, and all the fun stuff that goes with those things. However, my workplace had been inputting data into an extremely large table for years. This large table contains all the data that I need to be in my new database. I was wondering if there is a way to take the contents of the one large table and append it to the multiple tables that I created in the new database. To further complicate matters, I changed some of the formatting and/or names of fields. Any thoughts or suggestions for the most effective and efficient method to complete this process would be greatly appreciated.

Just a note: I have this week and next week to complete the design of the database and get all these people input into the database (a daunting task, I know). So, manually adding the data is not really a feasible option.

Hello,

I have recently tried using a oldlatop that was given to me. The first sign of problems, was the laptop unbootable boot volume. I manage to use the recovery option in a xp installtion disk to fix it. Once i boot into the system, the computer was very very sluggish. Startup would take extremly long time. At first i merely attributed this to the bloatware and crappy processor. Then I installed various antispyware and antiviruses programs. Lo and behold, avast caught about 30 malware objects with a boot scan. Malwarebytes caught an additional 3. Superantispyware caught another 3 infections. Lastly Avira caught 2 infections. At this rate. I know that there are still malware on my laptop, which may be regenerating itself, or be stealthed. The vast majority of the malware was located in the system volume information
Anyway if you want these antimalware/virus logs, feel free to ask. Thank so much for reading this and here is my hijack this log at the bottom of this post.

I've been working on a Vista Home Basic PC that was downloading at full broadband speed 24/7 in normal mode, but not in safe mode.

The responsible agent was either hiding itself as one of several svchost.exe processes or has modified one of them. I have actually stopped it by running Combofix as I needed it back in action so my main purpose in posting is to understand what it was and help others that may encounter the same problem.

Symptoms were a continuous download of data from IP addresses that were often Akamai, Microsoft or similar "legit" sites but several other IP addresses not associated with public facing servers. The download was enough to use up a 2 GB allowance on a 0.5M broadband service in a few days.

PC had Norton Antivirus up to date, windows up to date etc. Malwarebytes antimalware did not find the problem, nor did PrevX CSi or Spybot S&D. Combofix quarantined the following :-

I've recently been having problems with hard drive space disappearing to nothing, a problem that seems to revolve around the SysWOW64 folder. I posted a similar issue in the Vista support forum, but after running a scan with gmer, it found many, many .exe files in the SysWOW64 folder labeled as malware. Most of them seem like random character exe files, and occasionally they pop up in the Task Manager as processes, only to disappear next cycle. I figured it would be much safer to show a professional this log before going off and killing all the files.

In addition, I've added my hijackthis log file, in case the problem is somewhere in there. Any help would be appreciated greatly, as I am back down to 2.3 GB of space remaining, still dropping.

Thank you.

So this has been bugging me for some time.  It's the one thing that always comes up during maintenance. No Matter what I do to decrease the size, it's still flagged.  I googled it and multiple posts (first said to decrease you trouble shooting histore, but others said run Microsoft Safety Scanner) So I realized I don't have the msert.exc file in my debug folder, nor will my computer go here: https://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx
So I find it elsewhere, but 32 or 64 won't work says it's a compatability issue.

I have an Asus Q202 little inexpensive netbook but a little power house for it's size and cost. I bought it after the gen change with the Intel processor for about $450 and have been happy with it.  I still have Windows 8.0, I think because I don't link it to an msn or windows email.

I really appreciate the kind and paitent folks that have assisted me before.  I hope this is a relatively easy fix. I think I have eset oldtimer etc. on this as they were programs I was asked to run before downsizing to this little Asus (which my only complaint is the touch pad but I don't use it anyway I have a wireless keyboard mouse and flat screen.

Thanks in advance for weeding through my ramblings.

I did read the top sticky but I don't know for sure that this is malware or anything that sinister....so I posted here.  If it is sorry for the inconvenience.

Sincerely,
