Unable to open downloaded video files from download library.

Q: Unable to open downloaded video files from download library.

O.S. Windows 7 professional.
Preferred search engine is Firefox using a google toolbar.
I have recently downloaded a number of videos which I need to conver into MPEG format to enable and old friend to view on his TV through a CD/DVD player.
The original meduim is You Tube which I downloaded through Fastest tube in using FLV format.
The folders are lodged in my downloads library where I have been unable to open them and I have no idea where the have been located.
I would be gratful if somone can assit me.

Preferred Solution: Unable to open downloaded video files from download library.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Unable to open downloaded video files from download library.

Google "convert FLV to MPEG" without the quotation marks.
You should find a free converter at cnet in the first entry.
Don't forget to watch the install carefully to UNcheck the install of any "extras".

I am a novice but am assuming I have or had a bug that altered my hard drive.  I ran AVG and and vaulted anything suggested I also cleared all cookies and cleaned the recycle bin.  Everything seems to be running fine now EXCEPT that anything I try to download or run seems to be disappearing.
I regularly download zip files with pictures for work via YouSentIt.  Now when I download I get the usual dialog box, pick where I want the file to download and it looks like it completes the process.  Then I open my picture file and the download is not there.
Please don't suggest I download a file...because I can't! I've tried so many forums that give links to download and nothing happens.  I even tried in safe mode and still unable to do anything!
Please HELP! I dont know what to do next.
Thank you!

I try to save the file to download it and again, nothing happens but this time it shows up in "my documents" (where I downloaded it to), but it wont open from there either! I'm not sure if this is a Windows problem or an IE6 with SP2 problem??I would really appreciate it if you could help me figure this out!! By the way, I'm also unable to install my printer, but I guess that I'll report this under the hardware forum!

I can't believe I'm asking this about version 7 of the world's most popular operating system, but here goes.
I am trying to save certain files from the internet; I get the option to specify a location on my pc and I select the location. The browser (IE8) saves the file (apparently) but when I go to the library on my pc the file ain't there. If I go back to the internet and do file save as again, it shows the files which it believes are on my hard disk.
Where are these files I've downloaded?

A:Downloaded files not saved to library?

I believe the default download location is C:\Users\(your user name)\Downloads. There should be a link to it in your start menu.

On my old Win 7 and Win Vista and Win XP laptops I've had no problems opening and viewing my old MPEG-2 video files. My new laptop running Win 8.1 will not allow me to view them.

Windows Media Player will only recognize them as audio files - not video - though the sound will play. Real Player is the same - the application will open and begin playing a file but only as audio file. I've tried the built in Toshiba media player and it shows errors and won't open the files at all.

Again - these are conforming MPEG-2 NTSC 760X480 video file (old analog home movies) captured using an ATI video card dongle to connect to my video source and an old version of capture application ULead Video Studio. These files conform in every way to MPEG-2 standard/format and will run on all of our PC EXCEPT the new one running Win 8.

I bought and loaded a video editing application from Corel and it will open and play these files perfectly so why won't Win Media Player and Real Player recognize them when running behind Windows 8?

Any and All suggestions very much appreciated.

A:Unable to open MPEG-2 Video Files Various Application

According to Wikipedia, the maximum allowed dimensions for an MPEG-2 video are 720x480(NTSC) pixels. It's possible the ULead software driver used to capture this video was not up to spec during recording. As a result it is not correctly recognized by other media players. Since Corel is the parent company for ULead Systems they are most likely aware of this inconsistency and have created software to render the files correctly.

My guess would be that if you re-encode the file(s) using another format the file(s) will play on other media players.

I use Windows 7 primarily. I tried installing Mafia - The City of lost Heaven but the "MafiaSetup.exe" does not open. When i double-click the windows mouse pointer circle just appears for a moment and then nothing happens. Same thing happens for GTA 4 as well. Many other Games work flawlessly like Wheelman or Prince of Persia series or even GTA San Andreas. But these two games do not work (only these two dont work so far. but i suspect many may fall in this category). I tried the same DVDs of the games in my friends' PCs and they worked perfectly. So the prob is not wid the DVDs, of which am 100% sure.

I tried re-installing win7 assuming that would solve the prob but the same thing happened in the fresh new installation (i did NOT import settings or anything). Then i tried installing XP and when i opened MafiaSetup.exe it just opened for a second like a "black rectangle" maximized the window and then quit. GTA 4 dint open at all. I donno wats causing this coz its common across all OSs.

Can something in BIOS cause this?? Or where can the prob possibly be. I am lost!!!

There is yet another thing. My PC got a virus a few months back. It was just something that caused google to not work properly. Then i downloaded a fix for it from the internet (a freeware program) and it fixed it. There were no traces of the prob after that. I feel that virus (or malware or watever) is now done wid and this most probably has nothing to do wid it. I dont remember the ... Read more

I tried to open a video file saved to my desk top but got a data entry protection (DEP) warning that made it close. This happens with every video folder on my computer. I am able to open VLC and load the videos from there, but not the actual video folder so that I can burn them. I logged off and restarted in safe mode. While in safe mode I ran Spybot S&D, AdAware, and CWshredder. All three programs removed items. I then rebooted in normal mode and I am still getting the same problem I have a hijackthis log.

I deleted the HJT log after surfing the web somemore. All my problems started after I installed the k-lite codec pack. I have now uninstalled the program, but still have the problem. I reinstalled the program and still have a problem. How do I clean up k-lite? What is a better solution?

Hi all,

I got a free HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop from my roommate which had Vista Home Premium 32-bit on it and was bogged down with bloat. It also suffers from having a Core Duo CPU & just a gig of RAM. I had a couple of old DDR2 RAM sticks for a laptop which I tried to use to double the RAM, but the laptop only has two RAM slots. :\ I uninstalled a number of useless programs I didn't need & installed a few I thought I would need such as A/V, anti-malware & an updated Firefox. I then installed SP1, SP2, Platform Update & Platform Update Supplement. Then my real problems began.

I wanted to install CCleaner & a defrag program, but have been unable to open any of the programs in my download folder since patching the OS. At first I thought it was a known bug with CCleaner; however I found an article on Microsoft.com regarding this issue & followed the steps to recreate my Temp folder. That article can be found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/932142

I followed the steps outlined in the article with the end result being I'm now locked out of my Temp folder? I don't know the significance of that or whether further steps need to be taken in this regard.

I have tried several different programs, but am still unable to open the downloaded executable in any way - double clicking, right clicking, run as administrator, using the open command from the shell - nothing works.

So I found another MS article dealing with this problem. It can... Read more

A:Unable to open any downloaded exe since patching OS

For whatever reason I am unable to edit my post, but wanted to add a couple of other things I've done. Not sure if they're pertinent, but did a search of the forums for my issue and saw others who had made suggestions to somewhat similar circumstances. I've disabled UAC and Windows Defender. BitDefender A/V and Spybot Search and Destroy have been running. I have tried disabling them while attempting to open downloaded executables with no joy. Running sfc /scannow is not an option since I don't have a Vista disc. I just ran msconfig and disabled a number of startup programs, so we'll see how that goes; but I'm not optimistic..

Hello, Please help me. I have Windows 2000 Professional. I'm pretty new to all this as I have only had a computer for about a week. I got some adware threats detected by Norton Antivirus 2004 and have done a lot of reading up and I am now tring to delete them.

One of the removal instructions provided by Norton promps me to delete a file in C:\Winnt\Downloaded Program Files but when I go to view this folder it looks like there are no files inside. Now, I know there are files in there as Norton Antivirus has picked up one in there and when I view the proporties for that folder it states there are 12 files inside but when I view the folder with Windows Explorer it appears empty!

I've gone into folder option and changed the settings so it shows hidden files and hidden system files yet this still doesn't let me view the files in this folder. How can I delete this file if I am unable to view it?

If anyone can point me to a turorial that explains this or explain it to me I would really appreciate this.

Please help a n00b.

Cheers, Luke.

A:Unable to view files in C:\Winnt\Downloaded Program Files

I'm assuming you have done this to Show hidden files and folders:
Go to Control Panel/Folder Options/View and select "Show hidden files and folders"

Also, place a check in "Display the contents of system folders"
And,uncheck "Hide protected operating system files(Recommended)"

If the above doesn't work try this:
Create the REG_DWORD ShowSuperHidden (if it doesn't already exist) Set the value to 1, click OK, and close the Registry editor

Download CCCP Codec Pack. After install make sure you reset user settings. Reboot and you should be able to play MP4's using the Classic Media Player included in the Codec Pack. This codec pack will let you play just about any media file. Don't worry about the Russian Looking page. The site is legit.
Go to Start -> Programs -> Combined Community Codec Pack and open the Settings manager.
Press "Next" to get to the second page.
Under "Special Settings", check "Reset All Settings".
Press Apply.
Select Yes to the question, and follow through the Settings until Apply is hit again.

Hi ! I am new to this forum. I am here because I desperately want some advice.

After the very first time I used (DAP) and rebooted I found myself to be infected by virus W32/Almanahe.B

I have never asked these files to be downloaded. Dont know how they got there. Are these viruses ?

This is a new problem that has cropped up. Whenever I download a file to my computer, I am unable to open it up to run or install it. I have the problem with .zip files, .PDF files, .exe files, etc. I see the download occurring, and it all seems to be going fine, but when it is done, it is not on my desktop where I have my files saved, and when I right-click on the file in the Download box (where it shows the status of the download), the option to open the file is faded and won't work. What could have happened to my settings to make this happen? Does it mean I have a virus? I have AVG virus protection and it is up to date.

I have a second computer (laptop) that is running Windows 7. I have no problem saving files to that computer, so I can copy them to my Flash drive and move them to the desktop computer, but I'm sunk when I try to get a program like Adobe Acrobat Reader that downloads and installs in one operation..... I can't save the program to bring to the desktop computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

TSF does not support the use of Bit Torrent Clients like UTorrent etc. They consider this a tool to download pirated software, Mention of Torrents or UTorrent or any other Bit Torrent client will get your thread closed and a stiff warning.
That being said, Which Browser are you using? Clear the internet cache. Choose a different Download location. Try a different browser. Do you have any other security Software/Firewall configured?

I am having problems opening downloaded files from my email only. I don't know why. I use Windows Vista, Firefox and the email server provided at my university.

Basically what happens is this (I've included screen shots where helpful):

I get an email with an attachment and I click download to download it.

Then a window pops up saying that it has no idea what type of file this is but will save it anyway.

I look on my desktop where the file has been saved, and the icon is just a blank sheet of paper.

I double click the icon to open the file and it tells me that it doesn't know what file type this is, so I have to choose a program to open it. I choose the file type that I know this particular file is (in this instance, a spreadsheet file) and it fails to open.

Now, it fails to open for several reasons. Sometimes I'm told it's corrupted, sometimes it's the wrong file type, sometimes it needs to be converted, sometimes it's being used by another program. None of this is ever true. If we go back to the first picture, it's CLEARLY a spreadsheet file and should open in spreadsheet, no? So then why doesn't it do this?!

This happens with Word files all the time for me. I have probably 3 different versions of Word on my computer and all of them fail to open Word files downloaded from my email.

So, what's going on? Is this a problem with Vista, Firefox, or my email server? And how can I fix this?

A:Cannot Open Downloaded Files

Is that the actual filename?

You cannot have slahes in a file name. Also, the file extension = .sheet

Have the file resent or rename it with .xlsx file ext.

Hi, and thanks in advance for your help.

First, please note that this download problem does not seem to be browser-related. It happened both in Firefox and IE.

When I receive an attachment in an email and click to download it on FF, a FF download window opens up and I see the "progress" of the download happening. This is all normal. But when I click to open in (or try to right click to open off a menu) --- nothing happens. If I click save instead of open --- nothing saved where I've sent it.

Same as above if I click to download a PDF or exe file from a website. (With one strange exception: if I click on a link that instead of opening a pdf file directly, opens a new tab which then, with no further action from me, somehow "opens" a pdf, either in the tab, OR as a stand alone pdf --- appearing in the tray of open programs under the Adobe icon at the bottom of my screen --- which I then can save!)

On IE, the only difference is that once the dialogue box appears asking whether I'd like to save or open, and i click on one or the other, the dialogue box closes, but nothing has been opened or saved.

I run AVG anti-virus (free version), which is up to date, and reports no problems. I run a scan using their PC Analyser, which found some registry errors ---- which i could fix using their PC Tune-up..... except I can't open the download of its exe file!

I also run Zone Alarm's free fire wall product. I have run both these prote... Read more

When I click a file to download, I am prompted with a box asking me if I want to save or open the file. If I click save, the file saves properly and I can then open it. I can click to remove the bad info, but it does not apply it to the file. (the info remains attached)

Is the only way to fix this re-ripping/ downloading the file?

Hi. I'm not sure where to post this topic... I am having problems with viewing any files after downloading them. They are mostly pdf. files. When the download is complete my computer tries to open them with windows picture and fax viewer and it cannot view them. I have tried accessing the files through the internet, but that doesn't work either. I don't know if it's a problem with my computer or some formatting problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A:Unable to view downloaded files

After downloading any file...Windows must have the program that relates to opening said file, that program must be installed already...or Windows will not be able to open the file. For .pdf files, I find the Foxit Reader to be a good install: http://download.cnet.com/Foxit-Reader/3000...amp;tag=button/Once this program is installed, simply right-click on any .pdf file you have...and select Foxit Reader as the program you want to always open .pdf files.Louis

Hello, recently my computer has experienced incredibly reduced download speeds, to the point where it reached a low of about 300 bytes. My average download speed is between 2-3 megabytes. Also, when attempting to download anything from Google, upon opening the file i get an error message stating the file is corrupt, or the file simply doesn't download at all. I've ran multiple PC scans and cleanings to no avail. Attached is a log after I scanned my PC with Hijack-this, a program i have never used before which warned me to seek professional help before fixing any files, which brought me here. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance for your time.

A:All downloaded files labeled corrupted, very slow download speeds.

hi, i have been using my gf's laptop recently and am in the middle of an assignment for my university work. however it involves me opening attahced files in emails and atm whenever i try to open one it says this. what can i do?

oh btw this is on vista

A:cannot open downloaded files! pleas help!

Your temporary OLK folder is probably full up. You need to delete the temporary files in there. Browse to this folder C:\Users\Mischief Muffin\AppData\Local\Temp. Highlight all the files and Delete. Now, that your Temp Directory is empty, you can open attachments in Outlook and be able to save them.

HI there

I have only had my laptop 6 months, and I recently got a nasty virus on it that shut everything down. I managed to salvage it and it now works OK, problem is that since the virus I cannot run downloaded exe files. A windows security box pops up and says 'These files can't be opened. Your Internet Security settings prevented one or more files from being opened.'.

The virus I had was a fake antivirus that installed itself on my laptop and stopped task manager and other stuff from working. This is all now fixed and its just this downloading problem.

I have tried changing all security settings to low and this doesn't work. I also tried custom levels and ensured all downloading was enabled. Finally I tried checking it all in the registry by going to Internet Settings and ensuring that 1803 was set to 0 and it was in both local machine and current user.

Can anyone help as I'm really stuck now.

Hello jencarr,

Welcome to SevenForums!

Have you re-scanned your laptop (with Malwarebytes or your AV) if there are still any remnants of the virus?

It's much better to backup your files and then do a repair install (or a fresh, clean install). Such damage has been done to your PC by the virus, making it unstable and restoring your PC's normal, stable and healthy state would surely be very exhausting.

i've tried restarting and ending processes through task bar
clicking on the run as administrator button which takes me to the usual warning do you want this program to make changes blah blah blah

*i've also tried using internet explorer as the initial place of download

I'm really confused as to why it's doing this

A:downloaded software files won't open

As you are saying the softwares are not installing properly, might be the chances you are downloading the old version of softwares which have compatibility issues with the WIN 8

I am no longer able to open downloaded files from IE or Firefox.  I download the item and it goes through the motions.  When I try to open the document, it will not do so.  I tried to open a previous restore point and it will not let me go further than June.  I ran sfc /scannow.  It got to 96% verification and then said 'Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."
I can't download any virus programs from the internet and ran Malware.
We have Vista home edition.

I have Windows XP. When I download a file (WP, pdf, etc.), and it asks me to open or save it, it will only let me save it. If I try to open it, it seems to download, but then the relevant application never opens, and I get a message that I may not have the appropriate permission. So I have to save it, then open the application myself, then open the saved file. Any ideas on what the problem is? Thanks for any assistance!!

Microsoft's Tweak UI some times can fix the problem.

To access it see: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

When I click on an e-mail attachment, the download window opens, and the progress bar completes, but, the nothing opens.

Similaraly, when I try to press 'run' in the download window for install functions, the progress bar moves, but, nothing happens. For example, I was trying to download Mozilla, but, when pressing run, it bar progresses, but then, nothing.

This is weird (and maybe it will tell you want you need to know to answer), when I press SAVE on the download screen instead of run, and I specify a folder location and name, the progress bar progresses, but then, THE FILE IS NOT IN THE DIRECTORY???

What's my problem. I've disabled pop up blockers, and have entirely disabled windows security. Also, I DO have administrator rights.

Thank you!!!!

A:Run/Download doesn't work - downloaded Saved files aren't in Directory either

My friend is running Vista Home Premium and can't open any photos from his computer or from his camera. He can't even print them out. When I try to open a photo, it tells me I don't have permission to access the folder but I am logged on as administrator and it shows that I do if I check the security options for the folder.

On top of that, if he downloads files (say from our school's blackboard web site) he can't open them. This includes itunes installer. Nothing!

How can I help him fix this? I usually take care of his computer but this time I'm stumped.

A:Can't open photos or downloaded files in Vista

Did he install any suspicious software recently?

I have recently been getting this error when trying to open .exe files from the internet that looks like this:

It is OK when you are just downloading a .exe file on its own because you can right click>properties and click unblock but when the file is in a zip folder Windows doesn't give you that option

If anyone could help it would be great

Here is my problem: I store all my video files on an external hard drive. I had some problems on my computer and had to have the hard drive wiped and all my programs and data reinstalled. When the computer came back from the shop, I tried to play some of the videos on my external hard drive, but all I could get was a message that said access was denied because I did not have the proper permissions. Apparently something got wiped and not put back. Does anyone know a way for me gain the permissions or codecs I apparently lost? Is that possible? Please advise.
