Preferred Solution: Is it possible to give read write modify but not delete access on a shared folder to local user

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have requirement in windows 7 Pro
Users work on one software and save the files in D: drive, i want to prevent delete files and folder so give permission in user group
allow write.read, modify and deny delete
After giving that permission when user save the files than the error is "you dont have permission to modify in this network location",
but user try to save file second time than it will save, so first save error came and 0 kb file create in that location and second time it will save with actual data. so user need to save two times and two files created with same name.
Is there any solution to fulfill this, or any third parth software i can use ?

Thank you.

Hi
We have windows 2008 r2 domain controller and Windows 7 Pro clients. There is a requirement that user perform some run on software and software generate test file / result which are save on local D drive, now we need to assign permission that
domain users can read. write, modify, create new files/folder on d drive but do not rename or delete files/folders. For that i set following permission on d drive:
Full control for domain admin, local administrator, system
for domain users allow modify, deny delete and delete subfolder and files
Owner of the d drive is domain administrator
After that user can read files but at the time of saving files the error is "you dont have suffieceint permission to modify files on this location" and o kb file created but if user try to save second time than the file will save on that same location
So  user need to save files two time and one file created with 0 kb.
Please suggest a solution. Thank you.

I am applying a solution to take backup from clients machine to a shared folder location, the share management will be done through their AD accounts through a backup application.

However, I want to prevent user from accessing the shared folder location and deleting contents
it would be possible to use another account for shared file access but am looking for better option.

if Anything from the following can be done it should be great:
- Modifying permissions to allow writing and modifying content but not deleting
- Disable web access to shared location through windows explorer
- Only allowing access to shared location through the backup application in any way
Really appreciate any help.

A:Shared folder, write but not delete

not done any Active Directory work for a while but I'm sure the delete permission was separate so a deny could be applied the the delete for the group concerned who would have the other permissions, you would need to check the stacking of the actual permissions to be sure though, a deny is a dangerous thing for sysdmins as you often forget what groups you've assigned yourself as for testing

Also it's worth having a look at Sysinternals as I think they still have some advanced AD tools

As most of the others should be possible through normal NTFS permissions and even the parental controls it should be possible using Group Policy

give User Read Only access to secondary mailbox in Exchange 2010 via AD.
In Exchange 2010 - the only option is to give a User full mailbox access of other mailboxes, along with Send As permission.

How can I configure 'Read Only" access to a mailbox, via AD.
I know how to do it on the mapi/User level - by delegating mailbox folders.

My idea so far is to create security group, add the user and grant read only permission. - not working or I'm missing a step.

Not sure what's going on here or how to fix it. I've tried every workaround I can find, and nothing works. It's a folder in my Steam directory, and even when I try to manipulate it as an administrator I can't even read access it. I also can't see permissions

Hi everyone,
I have a specific problem. There are some shared folder on one server with access for everyone. But one folder is inaccessible from one specific computer (PC1). I have tested it with several users which have access right. Users can reach the folder from any other computer. Also other folders (with same access right) from PC1 are accessible.

Where can be a problem?

I have tried to remove the computer from domain and add it again.
There are no viruses detected.
I have tried to map the foldet to another drive letter. (The share is inaccessible with "\\computer\folder" too.)

Do you have any idea, where can be a problem?

Thank you and have a nice day.

Hi Ari94,

Temporary folder is a directory used to hold temporary files. Many operating systems and some software automatically delete the contents of this directory at boot-up or at regular intervals.

You can delete the files from Temp folder. There would be certain files which may not be deleted, this is happens when the files are in use. Please follow detailed instructions to delete the Temp folder: Temporary Files - Temp Folder

I have all 4 PC's in the office using Windows 7 Pro. I have one computer that is designated to house my share folder for scanning documents and attaching them to our management system.  We are finding that multiple problems occur - not at once and at

scan through the network to the IMAGEBATCH folder.  Sometimes we get an error saying we "don't have permission to delete this file".  These circumstances occur on all computers, including the computer that houses the original file IMAGEBATCH.
Sometimes in the day, each computer that is supposedly looking at the same IMAGEBATCH folder see different files.
Restarting the computer clears the problems, but then start right back up at irregular intervals, sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the middle of the day.
I did find a duplicate file named IMAGEBATCH on the "C" drive of that PC, so I deleted that, but the symptoms are still there.  This is the only shared folder in our entire network.  What can I be missing?  I have checked to make

Hi all,

Im not sure if anyone else has had this problem or noticed it, but I have enabled the GPO prevent users from adding files to the root of thier users files folder on our network as we use folder re-directs to my documents which in theory should keep everything tidy. This works up until a point, if I try and browse to the location and create a file I cant. If I try and drag a file into that location I cant, but as soon as I try to save as it lets me - any ideas why this would be?

I'm pretty stumped on this one and greatly appreciate any advice given. I am working on a network with 3 Win 7 Pro machines and one XP machine. This network needs to run a third party program that's installation requires to copy of a certain folder from
a "server" to the client machine, then run a batch file within to complete the setup.

When transferring this folder over to the client machine it transfer all but a handful of files that say that you must have permission from the computer administrator in order to complete this action. It doesn't specify, but I assume that it means the "server".
If completing the setup process without the files, it seems to complete successfully but the programs do not function acceptably (missing data).

The Windows XP machine accepted the transfer, completed successfully, and is properly communicating with the WIN 7 "server". I am only receiving this issue from the other 2 WIN 7 Pro Machines.
All accounts are local administrators, joined on a homegroup with Network Discovery, File and Printer Sharing, and Public Folder Sharing turned on, Password Protected Sharing turned off, and am allowing Windows to manage homegroup connections. The folder
bring shared and mapped on the other computers is directly in the C:\ directory with read/write permissions granted to Everyone, the local user, and local administrators.

You can do this by going into the C:>Users>Public folder properties, click the Sharing tab then click on the Advanced Sharing button showing in the first picture.

Click the permissions button, Add check marks for full control "third picture" then hit the Apply button, on all windows click Ok etc.

At this point the Public folder and it's subfolder will have read/write access.

When i go to my dsound.dll file, it's completely empty, registering as 0 bytes.

When I try to delete the file or rename the file so that I can copy a good version into the C:\Windows\System32 directory, I get an "Access Denied" message, saying I don't have the required permissions to modify a read-only file.

The problem besides stated above is that my user account is the ONLY account on the computer, and has full administration controls to the computer, so I'm at a loss as to how to delete or rename the file so I can get a good copy into my System32 directory to get my programs working correctly.

D has a name that looks something like "foo.bar.com". I have tried accessing its shared folder from L both as \\foo.bar.com\folderName and as \\IPaddress\folderName where IPaddress is the address I got from the ipconfig command on D.

Since this was my old office desktop, I was logging into my corporate network when the computer was there. When I moved it home, I created a local user with admin rights and ave been using this local account to log in. Can this have something to do with my issue?

the things I already do was :
1. Change User Account Control Settings to Never Notify (lowest)
2. Turn Off Windows Firewall setting (Domain, Network Location, Public Network)
3. Change advanced security add local user for Full control, modify, read and execute (to take ownership and grant full control permission of the folder and all contents in it)
I Know from forum it must be about user security issue but this 3 steps still not change anything
How can I defeat this?

- I have three PCs - two running Win 7 Home Premium ("clients") and one running Win 7 Ultimate ("server").

- I wish to use one of the server PC's HDD to store a backup of critical files of the two client PCs using folder sharing.

- All three are on the same homegroup (took me ages to achieve this - only managed once syncronied all three clocks, but that's another story...).

- I set up a uid and password for the server PC, will refer to it as "john".

- I created a folder on the server HDD called "backup" under which the backup will be stored. The folder and all its sub-folders are shared.

- I can see and access this folder and its sub-folders from both client PCs.

- I verified that "john" is the owner of the backup folder and all the files/sub-folders it holds. I also verified that "john" has read/write/full control rights for the backup folder and all its sub-folders.

However, as commonly reported , I am unable to change the "read only" permission from the "backup" folder. Hence (I am guessing that this is the reason) I cannot write anything to it ar its sub-folders from the client PCs. I can un-tick the read-only box, click OK, but when returning it is still there...

I already tried "attrib -s -r e:\backup" where e is the HDD leter on the server PC, but it has no effect.

Any idea how to get around this?

I believe vista did this as well. So Windows 7 doesnt' work any differently from Vista in this regards.

Hey, guys!

You seem really helpful, so I thought I'd post here.

I'm running XP and am the administrator with no other user accounts (and the guest account is turned off).

I've been trying to delete some music files (MP3s and WAVs) in my Shared Documents folder, but I get a "Cannot delete" error message which says:

"Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."

I have tried:
**Changing the "read only" status in Properties for the files,
**Changing the default program that opens these file types,
**Making sure iTunes doesn't have them in its library

What'll help me delete these files? I defer to the wisdom of you'se guys.

Thanks.

How do I enforce a standard user such that he/she can create files/folders within a specific directory (e.g., Desktop directory)? Any write access to the other directories should be denied.

A:How to restrict user write/read permissions for a specific directory

Hello Yildizabdullah, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could add their user name to the permissions of the directory, and check "Deny" "Full Control" to prevent them from being able to open the directory.

Be careful though. If you deny a directory, it will also prevent them from being able to open the subfolders in that directory.

Here's a tutorial with more details on permissions. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Hi, guys
this is a question, related to CD-RW in general.
I constantly have problems with read/write access to CD-RW's.
I formatted CD in one PC , cannot write on another PC and visa versa. Many times because of CD-RW problem, the entire PC freezes. What about reliability?
Did anybody solve these problems? I tried Win 98, Win XP, different PC (mostly Dell's), different CD manufactures etc.
TIA
Jerry

I just recovered my windows system partition from an Acronis backup.
Everything works fine except for anything that needs to write to Appdata.
Cannot download, cannot run Dropbox, or create new user profile at logon.
I have tried "Take Ownership", have set my user as owner via security settings, have given my user full control, but nothing works.

Would welcome any advice or info.

Thanks in advance.

A:Cannot write to user folder after recovery

Try a system refresh.
