I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If I have 2 laptops, One has an aircard for internet connection.
If I connect the 2 computers via Ethernet cables, can I Bridge one laptop to the other so they can share the connection? If so, what is the process? And also, would we be able to use one printer as well?
Or if anyone has a suggestion what we can do, that would be great.
Thank You,

I have two laptops. 30 minutes ago, both of connected just fine. Then I uninstalled two programs called ezvid and Sendori. On both computers. Now one of them cannot open up any web pages, but the other one is completely fine. Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer. None of them work. I've tried the system restore twice, but both times it said that it was unable to restore.
I've also spoken to a Comcast representative and done the CMD ipconfig/release and renew. I've tried it on Safe Mode. I've tried turning off my fire wall. I've even connected the computer to the router with a wire.

I don't know what this means but it popped up after everthing went wrong: "Error loading peer to peer connection. Listening port is blocked and returned port zero, please check you firewall settings and you networks adapters. Downloads and fill lenght videos cannot be watched without the peer to peer library!"

I know it has nothing to with my internet. Every other device I have is connected except for that one specific computer. Please help!

I am trying to help out my family with this question: I was trying to connect a Dell Studio 1458 laptop to the internet that we have. There is NO router, only a modem so the ethernet cord hooks directly from the cable modem to the computer. The laptop has wireless and wired internet capabilities (supposedly). It couldn't connect to a wireless internet and it wouldn't connect to the wired connection either. I got the same thing every time "Unidentified network: no internet access" Upon troubleshooting I get this error: "internet IP address cannot be configured." It is almost like the computer is not allowing internet accessing.

The internet works fine because when tried on 2 other computers and everything worked fine. Ironically, this is also happening with my sister's Dell Inspiron laptop. Both computers have Windows 7 64x with Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet network cards. The driver for the network card was updated: no change. The device was disabled / enabled, no change. All firewalls and virus software disabled, no change. There are no detectable errors in the device manager.

I am running out of ideas on what could be causing the problem and how to fix it. I am thinking it has something to do with how dell has the computers set-up, because two new dell computers are having the problem; but I have no idea how to approach it. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Suddenly they could no longer connect to each other after three days with no problem. Each computer can individually connect to the Internet, but not via the other. I have tried turning off the broadband modem. Tried creating a new network. Checked that internet sharing is allowed. Any help?

Two days ago my boyfriend and I were on our laptops when the internet suddenly cut out. After some running around, we found that the desktop that the modem connects to is running fine, as are two other laptops in the house. We've been connected wihtout problems since we've lived here.

My isp had no idea what to do about it, and I've done power cycles and ipconfigs until my fingers hurt.

So, the laptops. I'm on a Macbook Pro on OSX, and my boyfriend is a Toshiba on Vista (that's all I really know about it). His laptop is telling him the network (which we can connect to, but no internet) is "unidentified", and my Airport has a "self-assigned IP" message under the connetion.

I'm at a loss, and I really need to internet by tonight. I've been googling for hours and have found many cases like mine, but no help.

Here's hoping someone has some clues for me.

There are two lap tops in my office that I do the technical support for, they are HP nc6000 that run XP Pro. They are supose to connect and unconnect to the network here in the office when the users need to take them on location. The problem we are having that no one can figure out is, everytime the users bring the lap tops back in the office and attempt to reconnect to the network with them I have to go in a re-map the drives. I have tried to update the nic card drivers, that didn't work. I have asked both users if they are shutting down in the field properly and they say they are (going thru the start menu, shutting down from there). (thinking that that may have something to do with it) At this point I don't have a clue what could be the problem and I am getting sick of having to remap those drives...

Any help, suggestions, advice I would be greatful for.....

Without the password for the router, they wont connect. Talk to the person who has the router and get the password. if it is your router, call your ISP and see if they will reset it for you. I know my cable modem/router can be reset by the cable tv company.

So I bought a crossover cable just to connect two laptops. Like, a network. Mine is running on windows 7 and the other laptop is running on Vista. So I configured both laptops to be in the same workgroup (left the homegroup in win7) and configured both NIC's to have an IP in the same class - one of them is and the other one is and subnet masks are the same Now, I should be able to ping each of the laptops. But it pings only from Vista ( to Win7 ( and not the other way. Network window in win7 shows some computers in the different network, but in the same building, but does not show the laptop connected with the crossover cable. Network window in win vista does not show any computers. Both computers have some shared folders (for users Guest and Everyone).

I would really like to know what am I doing wrong, and how do I connect these two computers so I could easily transfer some files?

Thanks in advance.

A:Connect 2 laptops with crossover cable

Are you certain that the firewall is configured to allow ECHO REQUESTS on the Vista box. If you cannot ping it, it may be the Windows firewall preventing it from responding.

Install SP3 on the way-out-of-date machine.

For the one that already has SP3 ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Identify your network and also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi everyone,

Maybe someone already explained it but i couldn't find it. I apologize.
I have two laptops running Windows 7 Ultimate build 7600,fully updated.
Both of them have wireless network adapter.
I searched on internet and found that one way to connect them is by ad-hoc connection.
I established on one computer ad-hoc connection and on another I connect to that connection.
So both laptops are connected but it says "no network access" and it is not possible to share files between them two.
I created homegroup and there's nothing in that folder.

How to connect two laptops wireless and share files between them?

A:connect two laptops - wireless connection

You don't need to use Homegroup to share files, but that up to you. If both laptops are on the same network, then they should be able to ping one another. If so then creating shares and connecting from one to the other is a breeze.

1) Can both ping one another? If yes, continue (if no, get it rectified).
2) Create folders you want to share.
3) Map to the shares.

Hi Deborah and wlecome to Vista Forums

Do you have your router permanently powered up? It is possible that loss of power has caused your router to revert back to its default settings (the same as you would get if you manually reset it). Check its configuration settings by entering (or the address given in your router's documentation) in the address bar of IE7 and make sure that everything is set correctly, especially the WEP/WPA/WPA2 password (this needs to be identical to that on your laptops in order for them to connect wirelessly - this would explain why they cannot connect via the other router). Refer to the router's documentation and make careful notes as you go on so that you can refer to them again if the need arises. Once you have got your laptops connecting, go back into the router configuration and choose the option to backup your settings. If the same thing happens again, you should be able to use this file to restore your router. Note that setting up a router needs to be done via a direct wired Ethernet connection.
To check all this, power down your router and wait 5 minutes. Power it back up. Are you still able to connect? If not, connect via Ethernet and restore your settings using the backup file you created earlier.
Another possibility is that your router automatically turns off the wireless output on power failure and that this needs to be manually re-enabled.

I have one wired desktop that is using a linksys router and broadcasting wirelessly. I know it is because I have two laptops that connect to the wireless without any problems. However, I have a desktop that I use with a linksys usb adapter to connect and it always identifies that there is a wireless connection available, but when I try to connect, it can't. I had this problem with my previous desktop and I disabled the MAC filter, and from then on, my desktop was able to connect. I bought a new compter a week ago, with windows 7 and low and behold, I have the same problem. I accessed my wireless router config page and the MAC filter was already disabled, so that's not the problem. I used my pci linksys adapter card just in case it was my wireless usb adapter, but I got the same problem. Is there something I need to do in the wireless router configuaration page? I can't understand why my laptops will connect with no problems, but my second desktop always has this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have no passwoord security or encryption on it, as far as I know. I don't get why my new desktop recognizes that there is a wireless connection available, but can't ever seem to connect to.

here we go..

i have set-up a network between mine's and my brother's laptop and eventually we can share folders.. one time, something went wrong and i can only see my terminal in the network i have made.. i looked for some answers over the net and found out that one of my brother's program was blocking his network capabilities (if that is the right term, excuse me for my lame English. XD) anyhow, i have managed to fix that and my only concern now is to connect our laptops to play LAN games... i don't know what is the problem.. i also tried using a cross-over cable but it only yielded the same result... i try to create a game and tries to get it but he doesn't see the game i created... same goes for me... he makes a game but when i try to enter it's as if there's no created game... Warcraft is the game to be exact... i'm not a computer geek or what.. i just read forum threads to solve my pc related problems.. and since i can't find any answers, i tried to making my question to fully help me..

oh, btw before something happened to my brother's connection we haven't played together any LAN games..

A:how to connect two laptops using a router to play LAN GAMES?

ok, just to start this off the right way, i do know some networking and have connected many games for LAN and WAN play.

first off, unless you networks are set up different wherever you are, (i'm in the US) dont use a crossover. also i am assuming that you are both on the same side of the same router.

go to start/ run and then type in cmd. this should bring up the command prompt. type in ipconfig. on both computers. write down the IPs and then type ping (ip) -ok, its hard to write commands properly this way but its "ping" then one "space" and then the "IP" of the computer that you are not on.

hopefully it doesnt time out. since you did SOME file sharing im sure this works.

when you start the game in warcraft, you should be able to host your own offline game. when you do this, watch for anything that has your ip or anything that says "port".

now that the game is started (there should be a lobby of some sort where you wait for other players), the other computer can connect. (join LAN, direct join, etc...) the important thing to look for on this computer is a place to enter an ip or port number. when you enter these numbers on the joining computer (not the hosting one) make sure you enter the same ip and port number the HOST computer is using.
with some games you need to shut off firewalls, antivirus etc... with other you have to do port forwarding. think twice about doing any of these. for obvious reasons.

i hope this he... Read more

Hi, since this is my first time here I figure I may as well start out with a bang. In our IT department we are implementing a prepaid website for all of our sites to use. The site is hosted by verisign, but the connection is tunneled from the remote sites to our switch and then tunneled to the verisign SSL site. The problem is at all the remote sites the desktops wont connect to the site. The odd thing is that if i take my laptop here and plug in on the exact same cable that the desktop had, the laptop will connect. Then, if i take that same cable and plug it back into the desktop PC, it won't connect. I've verified this problem on all of our remote sites, and all the laptops work and desktops do not. All of the desktops here at our main office can connect fine? Any ideas??? I was thinking maybe a problem with SSL or a small reg fix. Also, I have listed the site under trusted sites and we have issued certificates to verify the authenticity. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks....

A:Need help to connect laptops to router without ethernet cable

The manual that came with the Wireless Router has all that information. Basically you put the Router's IP address in your browser's Address bar, looks similar to but last two numbers may be different, hit Enter and should open the page to your Router's Setup. You may need the user name and password, also provided in the manual. Once in you can go to the Wireless section to set up a password or change it if already there. You can also change the Network name but remember it.
The manual:

Then when that is done you fire up the Notebooks and click the Wireless icon in the Notification Area, should show your Router and click to log in with the password you set.

Hi everyone!

We recently switched from cable internet to Verizon DSL since my roommate moved out and took his equipment with him. I set up the wireless router last week and got my laptop to work on the wireless connection. Now I am unable to get my boyfriend's computer to connect to it, when it never had this issue before with the previous wireless. The first day I had it set up, it said it connected, with an "excellent" connection strength, but then the status was 'unable to connect.' I was on the phone with the Verizon guy, who after doing a screen share, said it was my IP address, and that he couldn't help since it was an issue with my computer and not with the Verizon.

So I tried resetting my IP through the CMD, with no luck. Now it doesn't even let me connect to the wireless at all. I've tried both the Intel PROSet/Wireless and the Microsoft client to connect (this is running Windows XP) and when I click 'repair' on the Microsoft client, it tells me it couldn't be corrected because it could not renew the IP address. The firewall is currently off and I removed the defunct McAfee that was never renewed anyway.

The ipconfig network.txt is as follows:

I had been using a Belkin Wireless G router successfully until a couple of weeks ago when it died. I recently purchased a new Belkin Wirelell G + MIMO router and my troubles have begun.

I have a desktop running Vista wired into the router and it's working fine. When I initially set up the router, my Compaq Evo N600c laptop, XP, with a linksys wireless card worked fine. I was able to connect to the network, add the network printer and access the internet. My problems began when I turned on the security on the router.

My desktop still works fine and if I direct connect the laptop to the router I'm fine, but with security set, I cannot connect wireless. I've tried WEP64 and WEP128, neither is working for me. The prior router was set up with WEP128 encryption with no problems. I've tried everything that I know how to do, plus a lot of the advice and hints I've seen on line.

I'd really appreciate some help on this one. I'm not willing to run the network without security.

I suggest trying WPA, WEP is not a very good option in any case.

Hi I am tech savvy and I am stumped please help

I set up my Netgear AC 1450, upgraded the bad firmware, works ok, but my laptops that run 8.1 Windows, may not be related, won't connect. I get my IP phone and my smartphone buy neither laptop. I click and it can't connect. Now I am reading a bit on netgear's site that they may not be compatible with 8.1? I can't even find AC 1450 in the list to cross reference Is there another name for this router than AC 1450, is that Costco's branding?

A:Help!! Connect 2 laptops directly w/ethernet w/1 laptop wifi

After connecting them together by ethernet enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on the wireless connection that has internet access. You can probably also bridge the wireless and ethernet connections, but to say that I'm making the assumption that you are not restricted to only one IP address on your free Wi-Fi. I haven't given any more details, since I assume this will jog your memory of which you did yesterday.

Last week I had a Win XP desktop computer. I use a Netgear WGR614 V6 router. I have fiber to the house and use a Cat5e Ethernet cable to connect the router to the wall jack and Cat5e from the router to the XP computer. I also used Wi-Fi to connect my Win7 x64 new laptop and an older XP laptop to the Internet. Everyone was happy and all worked well!

I set-up a new Dell Win7 x64 desktop computer (it currently connects to the Internet just fine).

During the period I was setting up the new Win7 desktop I had both the XP desktop unit AND the new Win7 desktop connected to the router via Ethernet cables (at that time both laptops could connect to the Internet). After I had transferred the XP files to the Win 7 computer I just shut down the XP computer and removed the Ethernet cable linking the XP computer and the router - the new Win7 computer still connected to the Internet fine (as it still does today).

I made 2 changes to the router:
1) I had the XP desktop connected to Port 3 on the back of the router and had the Win7 x64 desktop connected to Port 2 on the router.
2) I used Cat5e cable on the XP desktop and used a Cat 6 cable to connect the new Win7 desktop unit to the router.

Problem - both laptops see my router name but neither laptop can connect - even ran the troubleshooting routine (no help).

Could simply using Cat6 cable be causing a problem (Win7 desktop connects fine via the cable, laptops can not connect via Wi-Fi)? Surely just changing the port I connect the desk... Read more

A:Upgraded desktop computers, now wireless laptops can't connect

Well dummy (that's me) if you had just thought to re-initialize the router you might have fixed the problem - and that did the trick. I don't know why I didn't think of that first?? Anyway, all if fine again!

A few days ago my ISP connection dropped out for a few hours. After the modem/router restart I discovered that all wired devices and some wireless devices can connect but a few of the wireless devices are unable to connect and cannot ping the router. As soon as I plug them in with a wired connection they work. The router is a Netgear N900 with the latest firmware upgrade. Both he 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz connections are set to use wpa2 aes authentication. Even when the ping shows a general failure, the router logs show an access denied message for the Mac address that attempted the ping. When I switch to security none connections work fine. There is also a Sony Bravia tv on the network that was connecting fine before the restart but now will only connect when the network security is set to none. None of the router settings changed. None of the pc settings changed.

The network setup is pretty simple.

Adsl2 modem accesses the Internet successfully.
This then feeds into the wan connection of the netgear n900.

Hi there,

I've recently bought two new laptops, running Vista, and am having trouble wirelessly connecting them to my wireless network on my Belkin 54g Router. I can see the network I need to connect to, and the signal is 100% but when I try to connect it keeps saying disconnecting and something about WLAN . Unfortunately, i'm not very technical. I just about managed to follow the Router's inital set up.

Not sure whether you need to know but when the Router was first set up I set up two passwords, a main password and a guest password.

Also not sure whether you need to know but the network will allow me to plug my LAN cable in and will let me connect no problem.

I have successfully connected my old PC to the desired network, wirelessly, with the use of the Belkin Wireless Adaptor.

I hope there is someone who can help me with my problem.

Thanks in advance

I am having the same recurring problem with my FIOS.

My smartphones, tablets, ipods, video game systems will all connect to wifi but my laptops wont. This happens every once in a while but is happening more and more frequently.

Also when my family comes over with their wireless devices for some reason theirs will connect but mine won't(ie. them coming over with all their devices kicks me off and allows them on instead).

both of the laptops are running win7.

sometimes this also happens and I can connect I just get the no internet connection message and can't do anything.

Every time when we come back from work (i.e., connected to wireless networks at work), we need to restart the modem and router before our laptops can connect to our home wireless network. The error message is "This connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources. "

We never had this problem until I changed from WEP to WPA2. The current settings are:

on the router (D-Link, DI-524): WPA2, PSK
on the laptops: WPA2-PSK, AES

It doesn't look like that our laptops do not support WPA2, since they would work after restarting modem and router. And it works fine as long as we are at home, whether we restart our laptops or not.

I am totally confused and would appreciate any thoughts you can provide! Thanks!
