Wireless Router of 1 make and computer card of another make

Q: Wireless Router of 1 make and computer card of another make

My Dlink Wireless router has failed and I was wondering if a different brand, such as,Ativa, or Linksys or any other brand other than Dlink will work with my Dlink computer cards I have?
I have had a couple of Dlinks to fail and was wondering about changing brands.

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

"parts are parts".......any brand will work with another but it is best to macth brands if you need to call Tech Support. They will just blmae the problem on the other device.

I have a secure (~) wired/wireless network that works well most of the time...occasionally I will have a wirless nic drop connection then it tries to connect to many outside insecure networks that I cannot control. Is there a way to make a wireless NIC SEE only one router?

A:make wireless SEE only one router

I don't know if it is possible to stop the WLAN adapter from picking up other SSIDs, but I do know you can remove the wireless network from automatically connecting. You need to go the Wireless Properties and go to the Wireless Network tab and remove any networks that say automatic that you do not want to connect to.

Here is the picture of the properties:

I've just bought a Netgear Wireless Router WGR614v7, installed it fine and it runs the internet fine through the Ethernet cable.

My question which might sound silly is How do I now make my laptop run Wireless?

I have a HP laptop with build in Wireless Card.

I can run the internet through the Ethernet cable no problem at all. Just need to know how I configure my laptop wireless.

If I go into network connections in control panel It says I'm connected to my network.

But if I unplug the Ethernet cable I can't access the internet.

It's probably something simple but i just don't know what.

A:Installed Wireless router but how do I make my laptop wireless

It may be simple, but without some information about what you have and what you are trying we can only guess. How about starting by showing us the following while connected via wireless and ethernet both.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I'm trying to move my printer across the room and not run wires across my living room. So I bought a Linksys Broadband router. They told me at Best Buy it would be simple set-up. I have an HP Officejet 6310. Any suggestions?

A:How to make a printer wireless using a Linksys router

You'll need a wireless print server, something like this: http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=313. Exact model will depend on whether your printer supports parallel, USB, or is strictly a network printer. Check with the manufacturer's specs to make sure your printer is properly support, some printers don't work fully with some server boxes.

A:my dell computer is funning really slow what can i do to make it faster im new at this computer stuff and know nuffen about it so please make it as simpile as u can

Here are some simple tips.
Defragment your hard drive often - The Disk Defragmenter can be launched if you open My Computer, right click on your C: drive, select Properties, then go to the Tools tab. Select your hard drive and click Defragment. It might take a while to do, but you can use your PC when it is running.. it will just run slow until the defragment completes.
Download Adaware 6.0 - http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/ has Adaware, which will scan your computer for programs running in the background that monitor your internet surfing. These kinds of programs can slow down your PC.
I can go into more detail about how to turn off unnecessary Services or remove programs from your startup configuration (namely some  useless Dell-provided apps), but you should try the first two things listed above first.

Hello, Basically I want to find a way to use my Alltell wireless USB modem card to provide Internet access to 2 computers. We have a cradelpoint router that accepts a USB wireless card but we do not want to use this router because we live in a very rural area and the router makes slow internet speeds even slower and with the router we loose the internet connection frequently and have to disconnect then reconnect at least once a night.

We want to set this up but do not know how, can you help?:
1. Plug the wireless usb card into one of the computers and have that computer then connect to a switch or hub so all the other computers can communicate with it. Then enable Internet Connection Sharing on the computer with the Altell card. This will basically turn the computer into a NAT server which will allow it to communicate with all the other computers with internal IP addresses and translate requests/responses to the Internet.

Do I have to buy a switch or hub? how do I add the IP address in - I am lost in trying to set this up!!

A:Using an AllTell wireless card to make a wireless network?

Here are details if the computer with the mobile wireless card is running a Windows OS: Using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing).

Unless the router is defective or you are not positioning it well I can't think of any reason why it would slow the not-very-fast wireless connection. What do you get with something like speedtest.net with the card in a computer and what do you get using the router with only that same computer connected to it?

A hub is half duplex so can slow a network with multiple computers the same way Wi-Fi does, so best to use a switch. If the router you have has enough ports to connect all your computers you can use it as a switch.

Previously when I was using Windows 7, the system restore points were created automatically whenever I installed a new SW or made other similar system change. But it seems not the case in Win 8 any more.

I am a SW developer. Although I normally test our SW on virtual machines, but some other time I just install part of it directly on the development machine. The SW of course might have some problem. Today when I tried to restore my system to a status right before I installed the problem SW, I just found out that I don't have these restore points. The system indeed created some restore points automatically, but those don't seem to cover all the changes I made to the system. Is there a way to configure it? Thanks!

A:How to make Win8 make restore points automatically

Maybe your restore point disk space allocation is inadequate to hold all restore points that might be created automatically. My record of restore points implies that restore points are being created for all SW installations, but the record does not go very far back in time.

A:How make a a swith out of a router

Why does everyone think they need more than one IP address from their ISP? Unless you are running servers, just take the one address, and use your router/NAT to put as many boxes on your own network as you want.

If you are running a server offering something to the Internet, hence the reason for the second IP address, just do a static NAT using the second address pointing to the respective server's private IP address.

Otherwise there is no need for the second address.

My internet is really terrible and I am thinking of getting a better router
I am currently on an unlimited plan from my ISP
My current router is a NetComm NB304N N300 router
And I am looking at getting a D-Link DSL2870B
would I see any improvements?
or is it just my ISP being bad?

A:Will getting a new router make more bandwidth available to me?

I'm not sure if you are using wired or wireless connections here but both of those routers are comparable and the D-link and won't really help as they are both 10/100Mbps Ethernet routers with Wireless N, although the one your using now is a combo modem/router.

A step up would be a singular modem not a combo unit like you are using now, then use a 10/100/1000Mbps wireless N router, of course this will cost more but you would probably see some improvements going that route, more range for the wireless etc.

my hp 6500 officejet is sending out real small type [letters]and numbers. My glasses are strong enough to read what my printer is putting out help needed as usuall thanks for anything. bob s i have the page site type ;increased to 150% but its not printing that size type

A:Can anyone tell me how to make too make printer letters bigger

If you are trying to print out something like webpage content, you can change the font size in Print Preview by changing to 150% or whatever and then select the number of pages to view.

Experiment with the sizes up from Shrink to fit then change the number of pages you want to view it in and you will see what the text output will look like in the varying number of pages and then you can select how many pages for what will suit your eyes.

If you leave the number of pages at 1 then it will probably revert to Shrink to fit and so print out in the smaller font size.

Once you are happy with how you think it will print, then click on the printer icon in the top left of the menu bar.

If you are printing a doc from a word processing program, then set the font size and type prior to creating the document within the program, otherwise you will need to highlight all of the text first before you can change to how you want it, and changing those settings after you've created the doc may not stick.

Hello Please be patient I know enough about computers but not the terms or anything. I had vista at first then got a virus long story short my uncle removed everything then put XP back on. I dont really understand why its important for a drive to be a certain letter my hard drive H the removeanle disk is C Im working from home and was told I need my internet explorer and certain things on my C drive. First off what is the difference and is this possible Ive been up for hours looking but I am not sure and cant get a hold of my uncle. Please let me know what needs to be done. Thank you all in advance.

A:How to make my to make my C which says removeable disk to my H drive?

It's easy to change the removable drive's drive letter name.

Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Managment

Right-click the removable drive's graph and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths" and change the letter.

Do not change the drive letter of your boot drive. If you do, none of your programs will work, your computer may not even boot, and you'll be reinstalling XP all over again.

The time to deal with the boot drive not being C: was before/during the installation. Now it's too late, unless you want to reinstall. It's inconvenient and annoying, but almost everything will work just fine. I've read about some programs not working, but have never seen it first-hand. It's possible it never happens, and the people that are saying this are just repeating some kind of "urban myth".

If you HAVE to change the boot drive, you'll need to reinstall XP.

My question is:
Will it make difference to make a partition at the beginning or at the end of this drive when it comes to gaming performance?
Will option three help me with this?

My cousin showed me one game in the same drive installed in the 1st of four partitions of a 500gb 7200rpm (the same i have) performing with 3-5 fps more than that game installed in the 4th partition of that same drive....

Any thoughts?

I dont know... any thoughts?, or maybe just a bug in the version installed in the 4th partition?

The only appreciable speed difference with OS drives is to upgrade to an SSD large enough to install OS and programs on, link to data on secondary HD via libraries.

everytime I make some major changes I give it a bit of time to see if everything is fine, then I update the images. I usually keep the image before that as well, so that if something emerges later I can go back to that.

Access your router setup utility from your browser. Usually by typing 192.168.0.1 in the address bar and entering a user/password. Check your router's manual. You should have a status page or something like it. That will tell you all your IP addys. You might then have to setup a virtual server, either on port 21 or another of your choosing to enable others to pass through the router.

I'm really hoping someone can help me with this, because it's completely confusing me. I hhave been working for my company as a tech for many years, and this is making me look the fool. I went to my boss' apartment, and connected a Belkin Wireless Cable/DSL router, and have two USB wireless network adapters connected, and one standard NIC. I set up the cable modem to connect through the router and everything was working fine. A day later, it stopped working. I got it up and running by changing the settings in the router to Clone the MAC address, which i figured would solve the problem. Another day of it working, and it died again. I changed from dynamic to static addressing, and another day went by. It died again. What else is there in networking that could keep this from staying connected?!? The router at my house was a ten-second job, everything worked fine, but this one's just dying over and over.

what kind of lease time is your boss getting on the ip address? To find out I think you'll have to connect a computer straight to the modem, no router, and then do a winipcfg from run. Thats the only thing I could think of.

Hello all , I had ADSL through Telus for years now I moved into the country and now I have Xplornet. What I would like to do is use my 2wire wireless router that I had while hooked up through the phone line with Telus and use it with my new service. I tried hooking up the Cat5 network cable from my provider to the WAN port on the router and I get a wireless connection between my comp. and router because I had previously used it but it does not give me a connection to the net. Is it possible that the WAN port is dissabled because Telus uses the telephone jack to connect ? How do I make this thing work for me ?

I know if you suspect or have confirmed malware in your router that you should reset it to factory defaults.  Can malware actually make it so that you CAN'T reset to factory defaults?

Or, say, even if you reset it, there will still be some lingering malware inside the router?

Thanks.

Hey,
Im sorry fot bein a n00b here, Im not normaly, im just tired and frustrated in dealing with my familys new HP's never ending amount of pointless software. I( thought somebody might be able to give me a quick awnser on this one.

Anyway...

I have a network set up with a Linksys BEFSR41 (rev. 3) acting as the primary gateway and the DHCP server, there are currently 4 clients on the network (mine dual-booted XP Pro, SuSe, and a partialy complete LFS; my sisters PowerBook; the new HP which unfortunatly was fasly advertised with Media Center Edition rather than its actual XP Home; my Xbox). the Router is connected to a BEFCMU10 (rev. 1(?)) serving Cox Cable.

The problem arrises that my sister wants to use her PowerBook wierlessly and theres a chanche I might get a laptop soon anyway. Because of Black Friday Sales the HP also came with a free (after rebate) D-Link DI-524 (b/g WAP & Router /w 4-port switch). My initial reaction was to replace the old LinkSys with the new router, but a) It refused to get an IP from Cox, b) It switched me from the 192.168.1.* i was used to to 192.168.0.* and c) I found its interface unusably annoying. What I'd like to accomplish is to set the DI to work soley as a WAP for the network and still pass things such as DHCP and Port Forwarding (Routing in general) up to the LinkSys. How does one attain this result?

I did a bit of googling and the only thing I came across was something about disabeling the DI's DHCP, bu... Read more

I just bought a Netgear D600 router and I realized it doesnt have a DSL connection. I read online that it's possible to make an ADSL router into a modem. The old DSL modem is a ****** LTE router given by default by Movistar in Peru. I'm wondering if when I change the router into a modem, that the internet speed will be limited by the ****** router. Also, could you please give me some pointers on changing the router to modem mode?

4+ gigabit ports
Print Server (USB 2.0)
If wireless - Draft N
Optionally - a USB 2.0 port for network storage

I'd like to add something like this to a remote office in my home that is already wired to the home network.

A:Doesn't anyone make a router / access point like this?
