CTRL+HOME or CTRL+END moves cursor to start/end of...

Q: CTRL+HOME or CTRL+END moves cursor to start/end of...

I don't have a problem with the HOME and END keys being shared with the LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys, but it's a HUGE problem for me that the combination of CTRL and HOME/END does not go to the beginning or end of the LINE; it only goes to the start/end of the current word. How do I correct this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yoga 2-11 Yesterday the CTRL-C, CTRL-X, and ALT-CTRL-DEL functions stopped working; strangely CTRL-V works fine. It's very difficult to get the @  and ? symbols to appear, but capital letters using the same Shift key are fine. Also, when I would type, several of the same letter would appear, and when pressing the space bar several spaces would appear. I fixed this issue by adjusting my keyboard settings by setting the repeat rating to the slowest setting. I've used device manager to uninstall the keyboard, also updated drivers, etc, but nothing seems to fix things. Using Windows Key R and OSK to display the onscreen keyboard, and using my physical keyboard for input confirms that the Shift and CTRL keys work. One thing that I noticed: when I touch the CTRL key a round onscreen circle appears and gets smaller and disappears; this is also true for CTRL-X and CTRL-C, but when using CTRL-V the circle does not appear.

Hello. I encountered a weird problem.

I recently bough Acer Aspire 5734Z with Windows 7 Home Edition installed. When I type CTRL + C or CTRL + V my touchpad stops working for a few seconds. Then it get back to normal. And Except this the functions of ctrl + c and ctrl + v works.

This happens all the time, no matter how much I copy, I can copy nothing doing just the combination and my touch pad freezes.

When playing games as GTA Vice City I have problems using WASD movement at the same time as I adjust the screen(camera) with touch pad. Suddenly lot of combinations stop working, and I have to either stop walking around (WASD combinations) and use touchpad to adjust screen, then stop using touchpad and go back to using WASD.

I hope you understand. I am not very good at explaining things. And I really hope to find a solution to this.

When I did first-run of the laptop, the touchpad didnt have scrolling function working. So I went to acer.com, found my computer model, selected Windows 7 Home Edition and installed the newest touchpad driver 64bit. And it worked. Scrolling working. But freezing problems still occurs. And I think it might be some windows 7 anti multitasking function or something.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 10 installed.

In Google search box, when I type Ctrl+Z( for undo), it does NOT work. Neither does Ctrl+Y( for redo). When I type Ctrl+backspace for deleting the preceding word, it works perfectly, but when I type Ctrl+Delete to delete the following word, it does NOT work at all. Kindly help me out of this problem.

In Notepad, Ctrl+Z( undo) works but Ctrl+Y(redo) does not. Neither does Ctrl+backspace(to delete the preceding word) but Ctrl+Delete(to delete the following word) works perfectly.

I don't know why some shortcut keys work and some don't. Please tell me how to make all these shortcut keys work in Google search box as well as in Notepad.

The XPS 15-9530 keyboard requires that you hold the Function key to do home/end (Function+Left is Home and Function+Right is End).  That works fine, but I have found that if Ctrl+Home and Ctrl+End are a bit finicky.  Specifically, the key order I have to press to do a Ctrl+Home is Ctrl then Function then Left.  If I do Function then Ctrl then Left, it only sends a Home and not a Ctrl+Home.  Is there any way to work around this?  It's a bit annoying to have my Ctrl+Home and Ctrl+End fail so often while I'm retraining myself.

Thread title pretty much sums it up: CTRL-A disabled, CTRL Key Works, A Key Works, Other CTRL-combos work. I use CTRL-V, CTRL-C, CTRL-Z, etc all the time.

CTRL-A has never worked for me, in any application. Instead of selecting all, CTRL-A pastes, the same as CTRL-V, only when you use CTRL-A, in addition to pasting, it also makes a system sound, kind of like a knock sound. Out of desperation to identify the sound I looked control panel sounds and listened to all of them, it's not there.

I've never really needed CTRL-A until now because I'm wanting to use a specific application that has no other way to select all except CTRL-A, so I'm now desperate...

Any help will be much appreciated.

Hello. I'm usually pretty proficient in handling typical squirreliness with my computer but this one's a tough one for me to wrap my mind around. Here's my computer specs:

Windows XP
P4 2.8Ghz
nvidia 5200 vid card w/ 512MB RAM
Turte Beach Santa Cruz audio card
Seagate 160GB HD
NOD32 antivirus

Just recently I'd been gone to work and my girlfriend was at home on the computer. She usually goes on myspace, xanga, facebook a lot and generally doesn't stray far from those activities. I got home and she pointed out the computer was acting weird.

When I hit ctrl+alt+del, the screen just gets a light blue sheen over it until I click and then it's gone with no sign of the task manager. Also in firefox I cannot use the ctrl keys. The left ctrl key when pressed immediately makes the font size in the window larger and larger and after 2 or 3 presses opens a new tab in firefox. The right ctrl key yesterday was opening a new tab going to gmail and today is doing a variety of things including going back a page and copying text to pages. I can't use any ctrl key combinations in any software without it doing something strange. In Azureus it opens a file's statistics for example. I'm a key command junkie so this is a huge problem and I don't know if my computer's been compromised or what.

I've tried running virus scans on nod32, using spybot search and destroy, reinstalling my keyboard drivers, upgrading to firefox 2, updat... Read more

Hi... I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 on my Dell Inspiron 1720 with a tricked out Firefox 3 with a bunch of extensions, and all of a sudden today I started notice that Ctrl + S and Ctrl + F, 2 keyboard shortcuts that I use ALL THE TIME, are no longer working in ANY APPLICATION. The F and Control keys are working fine separately and other common shortcuts such as Ctrl + C, V, A, O, and P are working just fine.

I've tried it in Firefox, Internet Explorer, Notepad, Paint and Dreamweaver and Ctrl + S and Ctrl + F don't work in either one of those applications. The weird thing is without doing much of anything, it was working at some point today after I had noticed it WASN'T working, but now I rebooted for another reason and those 2 shortcuts are not working again.

By the way, I went into Vista's Ease of Access center (previously called Accessibility I believe), and everything is turned off.

And I also tried the control key to the right of my keyboard. None of it works.

Very annoying... Anyone got any ideas or know of any app that will help me find out what the problem is?

Thank you very much in advance, any help's appreciated

Hi all!
I need help to use macros properly. It is my first attempt at doing this, and I don't understand what I am doing wrong.

I have found this thread which resembles my problem, but I still do not understand what to do

Basically, I have 2 Excel spreadsheets open.
One is List A, the other is List B (Master List).

I have worker codes in List A, and have to find them in the B list to assign them a code (1) in column M.

What I did was go in my first spreadsheet, and selected the first worker code. Then, I started recording my Macro from there.
Ctrl+C worker code
Ctrl+Tab to second spreadsheet
Ctrl+F to open find box
Ctrl+V to paste the worker code copied from before
Close the search box
Cursor now over Worker code, Move over to column M by pressing the RIGHT arrow 12 times (from A to M)
Type "1" and then Enter
Ctrl+Tab to come back to first spreadsheet
Down Arrow to move on to next worker code

However, the Macro looks like this :
Cells.Find(What:="A4WL7CPA3BRX5", After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlFormulas, _
LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, _
MatchCase:=False, SearchFormat:=False).Activate
Application.CutCopyMode = False
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "1"

A:Solved: Macro in Excel help! Using CTRL+V inside a CTRL+F

Macro recorder only record specific actions, not generic actions.
So you can't use it to repeat the steps for other cells.
You have to code it specifically in VBA.

As for your case you can have a lookup formula in column M of the Master list to do the check.

eg in cell M12 of List B, type
[List A.xlsm]Sheet1'!A:A,A12)

this goes to your List A first column to count the number of instances the value in cell A12 occurs.
Assuming there is no duplicate, the result is either 1 if found or 0 if not found.

If there are more than one instances in List A, the formula can be adapted to
[List A.xlsm]Sheet1'!A:A,A12)>0)*1

*1 will ensure that the result which is True or False becomes 1 or 0.

My remote desktop session does not appear to be sending the ctrl+alt+left (CAL) or ctrl+alt+right (CAR) combinations to the target machine.

Yesterday everything worked fine. I installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64 and could successfully RD to my laptop machine, which is running XP Pro SP2. CAL and CAR worked.

Today I installed SP1 on the Vista machine. Now my RD won't sent CAL or CAR.

I downloaded a simple keyboard tester application and installed it on both machines. Locally on the Vista machine, CAL and CAR are detected. Same thing locally on the XP machine. When I RD from Vista to XP and try the keyboard test the program shoes that it is receiving the CTRL+ALT combination but doesn't register when I hit the left or right arrow key at the same time. Interestingly, the up and down arrows *do* register.

I tried the RD connection from XP to Vista. Everything works normally. I tried an RD connection from another XP SP2 machine to my laptop. It works.

Any ideas? Is there some sort of key binding in Vista that takes the CAL and CAR combinations before RD can get them? Is RD in Vista 64 filtering them out for some reason?

Hi all,

I'm thinking right now it's an SSD corruption as nothing else makes sense. I haven't done any installing, downloading, or updating in about a week and after restarting today I got startup repair loading and telling me I had a corrupt registry.

It claimed to fix the problem and now when I boot up I get a black screen with cursor. Most threads tell you to hit ctrl-alt-del to launch task manager but ctrl-alt-del gives me nothing. After about 60s of this cursor my computer will auto-restart itself and repeat this process.

I've done about 3 system restores - all claim to be successful but do not fix the problem. I've also run chkdsk /f from startup repair command prompt which found problems and again, claimed to fix them but did not fix this boot problem.

This leads me to believe it's a corrupt SSD but I'd prefer to exercise all of my options before starting an RMA.

A:Black screen w/ cursor at startup, no ctrl/alt/del

Welcome aboard, Darren.

First, you boot into Advanced Boot Options, choose "last known good configuration" and hit enter. See if it boots to anything or not.

If not, run SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot, and see the results.

The problem is pretty much explained in the title, but I'll explain it a little more.

I had the problem a few weeks ago, but it seemed to fix when I did a system restore. Now it has come back, and a system restore does nothing. I've tried a lot of stuff suggested on forums, but it seems no-ones problems that are similar to mine arent exactly the same.

I log in, to see a black screen. I can move my cursor fine, just there's no desktop or taskbar. I can ctrl+alt+del to access the Task Manager, but I cant start any new tasks, just view whats going on.

When I restart my computer, I press F2, then F8 to get to the boot manager. I click Repair your computer (or the like), and it gives me the options after loading. I can detect problems, restore, memory diagnostic etc fine. When I try to restore my computer, I get the message that it has restored successfully, and it restarts. Its a cycle of restoring, restarting and restoring. I have a complete back up of my C drive and program files on my D drive, but cannot log on properly to restore them from the back up.

I have been suggested to make a new account as administrator. I can not do that as I cant log on. Anything you have to use the control panel to do cannot be done as I can not log in.

I have been told that I should re-install windows, but it is an expense I cant afford until the end of the month. I am prepared to do it, but would rather not, if you get what I mean.

My colleague's pc suddenly would no longer respond when she pressed ctrl+p, then a day later she discovered that her ctrl+f no longer works. We tried to reassign it, but it appears that ctrl+p and ctrl+f are still correctly assigned to the print and find commands.

We have tried deleting the ctrl+p keyboard shortcut and then putting it back in, but somehow when we press the ctrl button and the p together nothing happens (we can type in ctrl q for example, just not ctrl together with p).

When we press "reset all", the ctrl+p is back under "current keys", but still doesn't work.

This is happening in all applications. We have also tried attaching a different keyboard and tried plugging it in different usb ports. Nothing made a difference.

Has anyone got any ideas what might be causing this?

Please help! Since a couple of days I have a weird bug in my Windows on my laptop:
the shortcuts Ctrl+C/V don't work for copy/paste, although the right click menu copy/paste do work fine. This however takes time and is annoying..
I suspected it could be a problem with my CTRL button, but Ctrl+A works fine, so that rules it out.

Does anyone have an idea what could have happened?
I have guests using the laptop now and maybe they pressed smth accidentally that locked this up..

Really appreciate your help!

My colleague's pc suddenly would no longer respond when she pressed ctrl+p, then a day later she discover that her ctrl+f no longer works.

We have also attached a different keyboard and tried plugging it in different usb ports. All with the same result.

Has anyone got any ideas what might be causing this?

So I haven't opened my old laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium) for a few months and recently tried to log on to retrieve some old files. However, every time after I log on, it just displays a black screen with a cursor and when I press ctrl-alt-delete, nothing is happening. I tried logging on in safe mode, but the same thing is happening.
Any help would be appreciated.

The others combinations works well, for new documents, bold, etc.
I ask to HP support we updated the hardware related, and I also tried to unnistall all fixes and apps installed since
the failure comes, but nothing works.
Any of you have a solution or idea of what to do to fix it?
Thanks in advance.

A:Random hang/ freeze (Ctrl+Alt+Delete and mouse cursor not responding)

There is a couple problem that this can occur.

1) The OS system file is corrupt, then you may need to run it.
2) Some driver is not up-to-date.
3) Bad sector on HD disk.

From your description, you should go to command prompt and do this first.

start > accessories, right-click "run as administrator". At command prompt, type "sfc /scannow". It will try to analyze your OS files and see if it can recover it. Try do it two times. If you get no result... try check for hard disk bad sector.

Go to My Computer, right-click on your main HD (OS C and choose "Property". Go to Tool tab, and choose "Check now". Check both options. click Schedule now. Restart computer. it will check for bad sector and remove bad file. Should be able to fix your problem.

Hello. I have been researching this issue, and found a topic that began on this site, but was unresolved due to lack of responses. I have been having an issue where my laptop fails to fully boot after logging in. It shows a black screen, and the cursor is active, and I can bring up the task manager, but that's about it. I have tried once to do a system restore to a previous point, but it did not fix the issue. I have a lot of files that I still need on the computer, so that is an issue.

So yesterday I got a blue screen of death. I didn't read it, I just restarted teh comp. Well ever since then, teh computer loads slowly and when it does get to windows, it just has a black screen w/ just the cursor that I can move around.

Here are things I've tried

a) booting to safe mode (same thing, but with safe mode written in the corners)
booting to command prompt (doesn't work, it boots to safe mode w/ black screen)
c) ctrl+alt+del to run explorer.exe (can't ctrl+alt+del)
d) right clicking (doesn't work)
e) windows cd -> repair an installation using recovery console (didn't know what to do from here), but explorer.exe is in the folder

Anyother options?

A few things I've noticed

a) the screen saver still comes on
rarely it will get all the way to the "log in" screen. I think this happens if I let it sit for hours.

Memory issue?

Installed Win10 on my PC. Everything works perfect except this.

I use my notepad a lot and would really like to get this straightened out.

As of now: Ctrl + Home goes to the front of my current line. Ctrl + End goes the the end of my current line. It should take me to the top of the page or the end of the page. Page Up and Page Down work correctly. Ctrl + Home/End works correctly in every program except for notepad.

Any help?

Hi Solihull, sorry for the confusion there. We have some rules in place that caused your thread to get moved around, but you are in the right spot now.Lets try to take a peek at one of the registry keys on your machine. As you have IE8 loaded I might need to research things a little longer, so hang in there. Please copy the contents of the code box below, open notepad and paste it there. On the top toolbar in notepad select file, then save as. In the box that opens type in Solipeek.bat for the file name. Right below that click the down arrow in the line for "save as" and select all files. Save this to your desktop and close notepad. regedit /e peek.txt "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System"
type peek.txt
start notepad peek.txtLocate the Solipeek icon on your desktop and double click it. Notepad will pop up with some results, copy and paste them in a reply please.Harry

I have an HP envy laptop less than 6months old operating on windows 8 and my Ctrl key doesn't work as it should.I know the Ctrl key itself is not broken as it works when pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete or Ctrl + Left mouse key to open links in new tab and Ctrl + P to print. However the shortcuts as Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V, Ctrl + X don't work at all. This is the case in all programmes including word, Excel and Firefox. Ctrl + Insert and Shift + Insert do work for copy and paste function but frankly they are far less convenient. Any suggestions would be greatly apprectiated as it's very frustrating. Thank you

A:ctrl c and ctrl v not working

Hello jc84ox,

You?re not able to use your copy and paste function.

Go to device manager and uninstall the keyboard. Restart the computer.

Do a hard reset.
Once the computer is off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.

This should reset the hardware in the computer.

Turn the computer back on.

Open up command prompt and run the following command SFC /scannow.

This will scan the system files and correct any errors that it can.

Here is a link to command prompt.

When you go to open command prompt, right click and run as administrator.

If the function was working in the past you might try a system restore.

This will take the system back to when everything was working correctly without affecting your personal files.

Windows 8 has a new feature which will uninstall and reinstall windows without affecting your files.

Here is a link to both options if you would like to give either of them a try.

Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!

Let me know how everything goes.

Have a good day.
