geforce fx 5600 ultra? or 5700 ultra?

Q: geforce fx 5600 ultra? or 5700 ultra?

hi people. it's been a while since i first asked a question.
I come here again to ask this question

should I try to buy a gefroce fx 5600 ultra(256 mb), or geforce fx 5700 ultra(128 mb)?
I've heard smth about fx 5700 being unstable, or just simply it sux.

so just to make sure, which one shd I buy?

Preferred Solution: geforce fx 5600 ultra? or 5700 ultra?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: geforce fx 5600 ultra? or 5700 ultra?

Hi all =). I'm getting a computer made with a 450w power supply. I'm getting a Geforce 6800 Ultra at least, but the company recommends a 480w supply for this card. I've heard of people having problems with their power supply not being able to cope with this card, but I don't know exactly at what power their power supplies ran. Will I run into any problems with the power supply I'm getting, or should I upgrade to 480w or more?

Don't know if you need this information also, but I think this may also effect my power supply:

Asus K8V SE Deluxe Motherboard
Athlon 64 3400+
1.5 GB pc3200 DDR Ram
120 GB HDD

Also heard that AMD uses less power than Intel or something...sooo I was thinking that perhaps my graphics card will not be affected as much because of this...but dunno. Help would be greatly appreciated =D.

A:Regarding Geforce 6800 Ultra, Ultra Extreme, or Asus v9999 Ultra Deluxe

One, Use a title once.

Two, nope nVIDIA GeForce 6800 families or newer REQUIRES 480w of psu minimum, PERIOD. it is not matter how much watts amd or intel uses, what you means that you must have 480w or higher to have GF 6800 working properly.

Recommendation, get ATI Radeon 9600XT or 9800XT, they merely used up less than 350w.

You will get better games or things out of ATI instead of nVIDIA due to power usages

I have installed this card in my system and I think that it will suit my needs quite well.

However, I have noticed that the fan on the card does not always spin. It seems to kick on only when the card is being "worked" such as when the screen saver comes on, or a game is started.

This seems like reasonable normal operation for power savings, but I just want to make sure.

Can anyone advise?

A:PNY GeForce 5600 Ultra AGP

FYI: I found out from PNY support and the nvidia forum that this is indeed normal operation for this card.

I finally bought a bfg asylum geforce fx 5700 ultra, and I play desert combat v.07(aka battlefield 1942), and have installed everything (new drivers 53.04), including a new 450w power supply and still seem to have some bottleneck issues or possibly some setting issues. I dont think its bottle necking.... what do you consider to be bottle necking in this case? FPS not high enough? Just loading hella slow? Well your rig is pretty good, other then the CPU is a tad old but it'll do just fine with good FPS in BF np.

My rig is:
Asus A7V8x
512MBs PC2700
Geforce4 Ti4200

And Desert Combat takes HELLA LONG to load!!!!!!! Its not just you, but levels in that game do take a REALLY LONG TIME. My friend has just about my same rig, but with a 2500+ and its a lot fsater, ie-reasonable load times. If you notice, BattleField doesnt take too long to load, load times are good, bareable. Desert Combat on the other hand, I dont know if it was poor coding, larger maps or what, but it takes atleast 3x longer to load. So I dont think theres any bottle necking, its just the mod Desert Combat itsself. My rig is pretty reasonable, and levels take FOREVER on Desert Combat.......I feel your pain! :dead:

About 2 days ago i was playing a game on my computer when the game froze up all of the sudden and i had to restart. When i restarted my computer it showed the bios screen displaying white lines running vertically in pairs of four down my screen. Currently the only way i can start Windows is via safemode where the vertical lines still display my computer information is displayed below

Cpu = Athlon 64 FX-53
Mobo = Giga-byte GA-K8NNXP-940
Video Card = evga Nvidia Geforce FX 5700 Ultra 4x/8x agp

I have reset my computer many times and reset and updated my bios as well. The video card did not have anything blocking the fan to cause it to overheat. I also checked the monitor plug and plugged a additional monitor into the video card but it still did not work. If anyone could give me any ideas it would be greatly appriciated.

Well, I'm looking at upgrading again, and in the interest of finances, I'm upgrading the video and keeping the rest of the system the same. I'm currently running an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe w/ Athlon XP 3200+ w/ 1GB of PC3200 ram. I'm looking at replacing my BFG GeForce 5700 Ultra with something a bit more modern and keeping the price low. I've found a 6600 (may be and LE version). The GPU and memory clocks are lower and the pixels/sec isn't as high, but the 6600 has support for Shader 3.0 and has the ability to process MPEG2 video on card which will help watching DVD's and with my TV card also. Plus there's the support for processing HD Video. I'm just looking for people's opinion on whether this is a good upgrade or not before jumping in. Fell free to say whatever. Thanks!

Hey everyone, I may sell my 9600 Pro to a friend who needs a new Graphics card(think $100 is fair?) But if I do that I will obviously need a new card. So I looked around on newegg and found a few cards.
I saw that all of the 5700 Ultra cards have a higher core\memory speeds then the 5900XT's. Does that mean their better? If so why? And if not, why?
Ok here are the cards I was looking at...
For the 5700 Ultra.

The reason that one looked good was cause it has a core speed of 500mghz and a Memory speed of 1000mghz. Not to mention its the color Red, which matches most everything in my case.
As for those two cards, the reason for getting those is cause they have two or more fans, and they come with pretty nice bundled software.

5900 XT...
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=14-170-048&DEPA=1 I like that card cause its got a VIVO adapter, and one of my frieds got a 5900(don't know whether is XT or not) and it ran BFV and UT2K4, AWESOMELY!!!
Here's a page of all the 5900 XT's
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=property&DEPA=1 Look at those and see what you think. Is there a better card there? If so please list it and why its better.

Hello. Does anybody know how this card performs? There going for 42 english pounds at the moment on Ebay.

A:Fx 5600 ULTRA

This card delivers abot 13gp/s which is average, if you really wanted a gaming card i would go up a bit, i have heard that the GeForce PCX 5950 is not bad for average gaming. But i think a nice card is the Ati Radeon 9800 which is around the 80 mark.

But if you got it cheap then the 5600 ultra is ok but would not run games that well.

A few months ago all i heard was that my ti 4200 was underpowered to play todays games and that dx9 was impossible.I had to have a 5700 ultra or 9800xt(budget,best card).well i played madden 2004 with my ti 4200 and it played with alot of the settings turned down ,did'nt satisfy me so got 5700 didn't like got 9600xt hatededed it so igot 5700 ultra but it ain't all that reall not much better than my ti 4200. So for 230 busks about all i really got was dx9 not much of a performance bump.S if you want a better card you need to spend 500 dollars or else just keep your old card right?

A:does any one else wonder why we could'nt live w/o 5700 ultra and now they make it any

Well, for about the same price, an FX5900 or R9800 would have been a much better upgrade. A Ti4200 is still a pretty decent little performer, and in the right situations, FX5700U isn't *that* much faster. An FX5900 or R9800, otoh, both have a 256bitDDR bus and awesome performance, making the upgrade considertably more noticable.

The FX5700U is a great card, but not a great value, a little too pricey and underperforming when compared to an FX5900 or R9800..

I don't think you need to spend $400 on a shiny new X800PRO, but shopping and comparing usually end up saving some $$ and being happy w/ your upgrade

Quote from Sudhian

it looks as if the card is built on the same reference board design as the 5950Click to expand...

i also heard that the 5700 chip is a cut down 5950 - there was a rumor floating around that - like the ATi cards a while back - the extra pixel pipes on the 5700 could be unlocked giving - in effect - a 5950.
this - after the problem ATi had with that - seem unlikly that nvidia would make the same mistake - but anything is possible

anyone care to advance/deny this rumor?

A:5700 Ultra - a 5950 in disguise maybe?

you mean how people softmodded radeon 9500 non pros to 9700pros?? it could be possible. i believe they are using the same core so its likely they could be oc'ed to 5950 speeds. im still a fan of ati, and would probably get a radeon 9800 non pro or 9800xt over that 5700 or 5950

Just wanted to ask in case anybody might have a suggestion.. When I put this Gainward 5600 ultra flip/chip vid card in and boot, I see on the screen the card's bios info, then the screen goes black.. I believe it may be because the machines 400w pow-max PS may not be powerful enough to push the card, in which case I'll have to try once the 550w coolmax PS's come in.. What do ya'll guy's think? Hi There,

My problem is irretating, every time I install the game and run it, my screen res changes to 640 x 480 and an error message appears sayin, "DirectX has detected the your video card does not have enough video ram" i click ok and it switches back to windows.

Please Help trust me all my drivers are up to date video, sound Service Pack on for win XP Pro the lot.

What can be the problem.

A:Tiger woods 2003 and DirectX9 and Ge-Force FX 5600 Ultra

run the DirectX diagnostics and see if it comes up with any problems. Then post the results here.

Check the AGP aperture size in the BIOS, too see how much RAM the BIOS recognizes is on your video card, and see if it matches. If you don't know how, just check the top of your screen when you first start the computer...it lists your card, its RAM, and a date and some other mumbo-jumbo. Make sure everything looks OK.

Your problem sounds suspiciously like a driver issue somewhere. If you have an old videocard laying around, you could remove your current video drivers, remove the new card, put the old card in, and then start it up. After Windows recognizes the old card and its drivers, remove the drivers and shut the computer down. Then put the new card back in and reinstall latest drivers.

512M RAM
Win2K Pro SP4
Sony HMDA400/L monitor

I normally have res @ 1600x1024x32

Opening Outlook Express then selecting the Inbox causes the monitor to go black, click then reappear. This is repeatable every time. Sometimes the screen doesn't come back but rather just goes off like it lost the video signal. The system is usually still running and I can sometimes blindly type in a restart command.

Web pages like www.startheatres.com just start their Flash display and it loses the video signal.

Sometimes open windows don't have their display refreshed and I have to run another window over top or minimize then restore to get it back. Norton Utilities windows do this a lot.

I've changed drivers a few times trying to fix this. I've dl'd PowerStrip to try and lock the refresh rates, etc. The most current (43.xx) Detonators seemed to make it slightly worse. Changing memory/clock timings on car and mb didn't help...

I had a similar problem with a GeFroce 3 that I solved by locking the refresh to 60Hz. No luck on this.

Any ideas ?

Hi guys, back after a few months away from this great site/forum.

I have a question regarding the CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard I was searching all over the web but can't seem to find out if this motherboard will support the new AMD 64 X2(dual core) 939 CPU? It says it supports the AMD 64 & 64 FX CPUs, but what about AMD 64 X2(dual core) 939 CPU?

If anyone here can help me out, I'd be grateful. Thanks.

A:CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard

Most nForce4 based motherboards support such CPUs but not all of them do so out-of-the-box. Make sure to have a motherboard from the latest production batch. If not, it might be handy to have a single-core to flash the BIOS in case it doesn't want to power up with the dual-core one.

I believe it is a driver problem. I thought I fixed the problem earlier but it still does this. I enter motocross madness 2 and enter a race, it may go 20 laps before it quits on me or it may go 2. It might depend on the track itself or something, but it still quits. It also happens with Counterstrike as well. When MCM2 quits though I get no error, with Counterstrike, I get an Illegal operation error. I've messed around with drivers quite a bit. I am running Direct X 8.0, maybe it's an issue with that. I've thought about going back to the drivers that came with the box, but they are not here right now. Anyone know where I could get them? Leadtek and Winfast made it I believe. I also downloaded this thing from Leadtek's site for the GeForce 2, but I'm not sure if it worked, or what it did. My friend said it probably wouldn't be a heating issue because he said it would probably just freeze. Can someone please help me? Would installing Direct X 8.0a help? Different drivers? Or if you think it's a heating issue then tell me that to. I am running a T-Bird 1200, GeForce2 Ultra (Not really sure which drivers I am running since I have switched around so much lately), Yamaha sound card if that means anything. Hey folks,

I've got a serious problem here with either my GeForce 8800 Ultra driver or the GeForce 8800 Ultra hardware itself. And to make matters worse... I cannot figure out which one is the problem, if either.

I am running Windows Vista 64-Bit Ultimate version, quad core Intel processor, GeForce 8800 Ultra video card, 4 gigs of ram, an nForce motherboard, and 300 gig hard drive. If you need any more information about my system please let me know.

This started happening about a week ago while my brother was playing World of WarCraft and the game crashed while he was playing. The screen kept flashing to a completely black screen, almost as if the application was being alt+tabbed, but it was not. When the screen would flash back to the game, the graphics would be skewed, vectored, stretched, spasmed, torn, distorted, noise all over the graphics, etc. Basically everything that you could imagine that could go wrong with the graphics... that's what it looked like.

So the screen kept flashing back and forth until a blue screen of death popped up and the computer restarted itself.

I tried downloading and installing numerous drivers, playing with the settings in the nVidia Control Panel, running a virus scanner, unplugging the computer and blowing dust out of it (including the video card), making sure the video card was snuggly inserted into the motherboard, etc. etc. etc.

Nothing has worked.

And the problem is not isolated to World of WarCraft. I experience the sa... Read more

Yesterday my Dell XPS Gen 2 laptop (from back in 2005) started getting some terrible display artifacts. They are there as soon as the computer comes on (at BIOS), but only when the screen is trying to display something (i.e. Not when the screen is on, but nothing to display). There is a variety of different artifacts, and I'm not sure what to call of them. Here are the ones I've noticed
shifting of single-pixel, small, vertical sections (e.g. I can see part of my mouse move on the left side of the screen when the mouse is on the right side)
blinking smiley faces and accented e's
complete disarray of colors
screen blackouts
artifacts accumulate in moving windows

Along with these, I've been getting some BSODs. The stop codes I can recall are 8E, 50, and EA. The BSOD pops up when I try to boot normally, but not when I boot in Safe Mode. The artifacts are still there in safe mode.

I've run a few diagnostics that I know to do, such as Dell's diagnostic utilities (from the F8 or F12 bootup menu) and Memtest86+. Memtest is still running, but I've gotten 5 passes with it. The dell diagnostics give me several errors. I don't know if anyone here knows how the Dell errors translate, but here are ones I've gotten:

A:Confirm a bad Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra

1. deleted to avoid further confusing the issue -
sorry... failed to note that it was laptop. Must be overtired.

2. You can you boot to safe mode?
If so, this should allow you to function with basic video drivers, and you may not have the artifacting.
Not a solution, but it will allow you to do some work with your system, perhaps to deal with bad drivers... or at least to backup your data.
Try changing resolution, and color settings (display modes) to see if you can "relieve" the issue to do basic work.

3. Check the use of Driver Sweeper.
This will help you to fully eliminate bad graphics drivers if they are at fault.

Perhaps Route44 will notice this thread an offer his thoughts too.
Also there is a video memory stress test. I will see if I can find the link and add it to this post.

I have a Dell Dimension 8100, which is a 1.5GHz Pentium 4 system with 256MB ram, and a NVidea Geforce Ultra2 card, with 256MB RAM on it.

At work, we bought a new Dell that had a GeForce4 MX420 card in it. Since this machine was mainly to be used as a workstation for somebody who will mainly be using it for email and word processing, I thought I might switch the video cards in the two machines and upgrade my video card.

I ran 3dMark2001 SE benchmark on both cards in my system.

The Nvidea GeForce4 MX 420 benchmarked at 3708
and my NVidea Geforce2 Ultra benchmarked at 4237 (ish).....

Thinking something must be wrong, I made sure that I had no extra programs running, and upgraded the BIOS of the motherboard, but I still received the same results?

Is this right?

I'm running Windows XP, Service Pack 1 with all the latest patches. Is the Geforce2 Ultra a better card?? I didnt think it was, but the benchmark doesn't lie (I think???).

Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

I am using the latest drivers from NVIDEA ... Actually it's the same driver for both cards, which made it easier when switching the cards out.

My current setup is as follows...

420 Watt power supply

My question is, without upgrading anything but the video card what is my best option for a replacement? I play Vanguard online and with my current card it's only really playable at the "high performance" setting. I only have a limited understanding of what PCI, AGP or SLI mean. I believe those are the correct acronyms.

I was pretty happy with my Nvidia card and my first choice would be to likely stay with them. Maybe someone could point me in the right direction to one of their cards and also to another brand as well.

I appreciate the help. Thanks in advance for any responses.

My gosh I didn't believe it till I saw it myself.. Guess its time to go buy an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro.

I found it quite interesting that annand mentions that when Nvidia first briefed them on the NV30 they were told the core speed would be between 350 and 400 mhz. of course that was BEFORE the Radeon 9700 pro launched.

Hi my first post on these forums. I'm running Windows XP. As I mentioned in the title I am using a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5950 Ultra. Lately when I try to play World of Warcraft my computer will load up the video game and then once in the game it will suddenly crash to a blank screen. Sometimes my computer will stop responding (when it does this it, it will go to a BSOD after a few seconds) and other times my monitor will just go into sleep mode randomly as if my computer just turned off (but the computer remains on).

Not sure what info I need to post here. I've checked My Computer > C: > Windows > Minidump as other threads have talked about but when I get into the folder I don't see anything.

I've also tried reinstalling my Nvidia drivers but that didn't fix anything.

A:0xEA nv4_disp on NVIDIA GeForce FX 5950 Ultra

Try the following concerning video drivers:

1. Download Driver Cleaner Pro or Driver Sweeper (both have free versions; make sure the version will work with your OS) to your desktop screen and install.

2. Download the latest diver(s) for your video card but don't install them.

3. Uninstall your video card drivers and reboot your PC into Safe Mode. Run Driver Cleaner Pro or Driver Sweeper but ONLY for the video card drivers. I had someone use it on their chipset drivers! If it doesn't find any video card drivers that is quite okay.

4. Reboot and install new video card drivers.

Do the following to enable Minidump Files to be created:

1. Right click My Computer > click Properties > click Advance tab

2. The Advance Screen at the bottom right has Error Reporting. Click this on.

3. Click Enabled error reporting and also check both boxes underneath: Windows operating system and Programs.

4. Now click Choose Programs and click All Programs. Then click Okay and that screen will close. At the next screen click Okay and that will close.

5. You are back to the Advance screen. Find the Start up and Recovery which has underneath it System startup, system failure, and debugging information. Click the Settings box.

6. Another screen will open. You want the System failure section. Enable all three boxes.

7. Under these boxes is Write debugging information. Choose the option Small memory dump (64kb). Click OK and that screen will close.

Hi there,

Up until recently, I've been using my computer solely for audio but I've been bitten by the game bug recently.

I bought a copy of Doom 3 thinking that it would run ok on my machine (amazon specs here .)

The specs state an AMD 1500+ (I have an Athlon XP1700+ 1.47ghz) and am running the game with a Geforce Fx5700 ultra 128mb but the game performs terribly, especially when there are over three characters on the screen - even on the lowest setting with most of the detail turned off.

So, I figured that Amazon screwed up & they meant 1.5ghz instead of the rating 1500+. Does this sound about right? But even if that's so... I'm only slightly slower than 1.5ghz... does it really make that much difference?

Also... my motherboard (Abit KG7) is getting a little old now... the GFX card is X8 Agp (whatever that means) but my board only supports up to X4 - does this restrain the performance of the gfx card?

Thanks for any advice,

A:Doom 3 - Athlon XP1700+ - Geforce FX5700 Ultra

doom 3 is very grpahics intensive but your system should run it fine on medium setitngs. try to install the newest drivers as old drivers will perform horribly on doom 3.
having a agp 8x card on a 4x motherbaord wouldnt restain performance, you would get aprox 0.4fps lower, which isnt a big deal at all.

.. on an ASUS K8N-E Deluxe, Athlon 64 3400+, 1gb PC3200 RAM.

My system regularly freezes with fastwrites enables, but works fine if I disable it.

So I have a few (well, four) questions:

1) Why is this hapenning? What is it about fastwrites which causes my system to crash?
2) Could I regard one or other bits of my hardware to be "faulty"?
3) Is there any software yet available which will enable me to use fastwrites and have a stable system?
4) Is this a common problem?

A:NVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra Fastwrite problems

This is a common problem with some video cards, and not something you should worry about.

This is a compatibility issue with some videocards, and mobo chipsets.

Just leave fastwrites off.

Faswrites are supposed to increase performance, but frequently cause stability issues.

If you do a google search for "fastwrites" you`ll see what I mean.

Hey all, I picked up a geforce 6800 ultra in December. Last week I noticed some weird artifacts when using 2D apps on the windows xp desktop (most notably quicken and IE). What happens is, for certain apps, every now and again, I'll get a whole horizontal line of pixels (or 2) across the screen to flicker. Occasionally, I get a bleeding effect too.

I thought it was the card, but I returned it and got a new one and the effect is still there.

It doesn't happen all the time and if I minimize the app and re-open it, it'll go away.

I've gotten the latest drivers, and my display hasn't caused me problems.

I am having Problems with my video card in my system. It had previously worked for my games but it now gives distorted images when I tested the direct3D using DXDiag.exe. Whenever I start my game (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic), The beginning part runs correctly (ie, the opening videos) but the menu is no longer shown. All I see is the cursor surrounded by a black screen. When I tried another game (Pirates of the Carribean), the opening was distored by large Red triangles and the menu was distored with green and red vertical lines of boxes (similar to the dos rectangles).

This is surprising because the card preforms quite well when running video files suchas XVID, Mpeg or Avi, as well as DVD playback.

I would appreciate any help.

I need help deciding... I'm either going to get the ASUS Radeon X850XT PE, or 2 ASUS GeForce 6800 Ultras (SLI.) The X850 is around $700, and the 2 Geforces are around $1400. Please help me decide which is better in PERFORMANCE, I am not looking for value.

A:ASUS ATI Radeon X850XT PE VS. nVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra SLI

Apples & Oranges

Well the only flaw in your thinking is that a 256MB has a snowball's chance in hell of competing with a 512MB dual video card setup. With SLI using the 6800 Ultra, you are not just doubling the memory, you are effectivly using two 1.1GHz GPUs to reak havok upon any game you could possibly throw at them. I know you said that you are not looking for best "value" but overall system performance. Hands down, the SLI config would be the obvious winner here.

With that said, the X850XT-PE is a smoking fast card. It boasts more features than the 6800 Ultra, and actually has a faster GPU when comparing against only one 6800 Ultra. For $700 you are no doubt gonna be the big boy on the block for quite a while. Most casual gamers are not going to drop that kinda look for a video card, for that matter, many of them may not have even spent that on their computer.

In summation, for raw brute-force power to handle anything you throw at it, the 6800 Ultra/SLI config is clearly the victor here.

I have a PNY Verto GeForce FX 5200 Ultra 128MB video card that a friend of mine flashed with the wrong bios. It is now seeing only 64MB of the memory on the card.

Is there anyone here that has this card and would make me a backup copy of the video bios? It's not too hard to backup, and I would greatly appreciate the help. I haven't gotten to far with gettng one from PNY since they are not very helpful as soon as you mention you need a bio file...

I have even tried the NVidia reference bios, and that corrupted everything, so I'm stuck with 64MB until I can find the correct bios file.

Password-cracking chip causes security concerns.

A technique for cracking computer passwords using inexpensive off-the-shelf computer graphics hardware is causing a stir in the computer security community.

Using the "massively parallel processing" capabilities of a graphics processing unit (GPU) - the processor normally used to produce realistic graphics for video games, the speed of password cracking was increased by a factor of 25 - and a Russian company has filed for a U.S. patent on the technique.

How vulnerable is your computer's GPU?
