Windows Update shows error 80070BC9, updates fails

Q: Windows Update shows error 80070BC9, updates fails

Hello, I got moms laptop for repair, and found one problem. I can't install 6 updates, one of them is that Windows 10 one. Windows update gives me error 80070BC9. I already tried sfc /scannow, even on boot, it threw "unfixable" errors on me too.
Any help? (Windows 8.1)

P.S.: I tried to put CBS.log here, but I can't, don't know why.

Preferred Solution: Windows Update shows error 80070BC9, updates fails

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Windows Update shows error 80070BC9, updates fails

Please post the KB{number} list of the updates you are trying to install.
Please upload the cbs.log file located at [windows partition]\windows\logs\cbs\ ,this log might have information about the problem + use this command
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log > "%userprofiel%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

after sfc/scannow is finished.
The sfcdetails.txt file shows what sfc could not fix.

Hi! I got errors 80070BC9 and C355 when trying to install SP1, security updates KB2478661 and KB2556352 and Internet Explorer 9 with Windows Update. I use Windows 7 Professional x64. I tried to install the updates manually, used the Windows Update Readyness and FixIt tools, and to reinstall the Windows Update agent from the command line as administrator with the /wuforce option. Nothing worked. I uploaded the checksur.log. Can you fix this please?

A:Windows Update error when installing SP1 code 80070BC9

* First & foremost I recommend you only do a few updates at a time.
Set Windows to notify you of updates but YOU choose which to do & when.

* Certain Security software can cause updating issues.
To find out if 3rd party software is causing the updates to fail to install > configure the system to Clean boot and then check for updates.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

* You could also try resetting Windows Update Components.
To do this:
1. Click on the following link: How do I reset Windows Update components?
2. Click Run in the File Download dialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.

* Instead of using Windows Update try the SP1 Download:

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

For 32-Bit Windows 7 download: windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe

Second machine that I am having issues getting to update. I keep running into error code 80070BC9 and 9C59. I know 9C59 is IE11 fail to install but anything I try won't let me get past it even the standalone installer and trying to remove IE9. I ran SURT and sfc there was no change. CBS log attached. Any help on this headache would be greatly appreciated!

A:Windows update error code 80070BC9 and 9C59

There are no problems in either SFC or CheckSUR - but the background CBS data shows that a number of updates are in a pending state, and access to the registry is apparently being blocked.
From the look of the Filters.log you have both Symantec and Bit9 security programs running - it may be that this combination is blocking the updates.
I know nothing about Bit9 beyond what a quick look at their home page tells me, but a combination of Symantec with almost anything else in the form of an AV is pretty much guaranteed to cause problems.

What versions of which security programs are currently installed? what others have been installed ?

I had this problem before in Oct. 2006 with my computer at home and put drivecleaner 2006 on it and it corrected the problem. Now my symantec and pestpatrol caught it as spyware and and all and I'm kind of confussed on where to put it back on my computer or not! Any advice. I have Window XP Pro.

A:Windows Updates Fails To Update With No Error Codes.

Drive Cleaner is a program that displays exaggerated reports of security and privacy risks on your computer. Before you can fix these risks, though, the program requires you to purchase the commercial version of the software. Due to this Symantec labels this program a security risk. I've only recently realised that my Windows 7 computer will not allow Windows Update to basically, run.

The last time it successfully ran was late August and every attempt since fails with Error No: 80096001

I cannot even run the SURT tool as requested by the Windows Update posting Instructions thread. Same error number in fact.

I have run the sfcscan as directed, and the logs are attached.

Once again, I look forward to some nice lady or gent offering help with thanks in advance.

I tried everything from deleting temporary files, doing malware check, hard disk check for errors, still could not solve it.

download TFC by Old Timer TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer - Geeks to Go Forums and save it to your desktop.
Save any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!
Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista/Windows 7 right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator.
Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.

TFC (Temp File Cleaner) will clear out all temp folders for all user accounts (temp, IE temp, java, FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari), including Administrator, All Users, LocalService, NetworkService, and any other accounts in the user folder. It also cleans out the %systemroot%\temp folder and checks for .tmp files in the %systemdrive% root folder, %systemroot%, and the system32 folder (both 32bit and 64bit on 64bit OSs). It shows the amount removed for each location found (in bytes) and the total removed (in MB). Before running, it will stop Explorer and all other running apps. When finished, a reboot is required the user must reboot to finish clearing any in-use temp files.

After installing Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade on a new seagate 320 g hdd on a Toshiba L300 Laptop with 32 bit that had Vista with latest SP on a 120gb hdd.then installing the sp1, the windows updater will not download and install updates. As it was I had to manually download the sp1 to a flash drive from my desktop and put it on the laptop. No problems there, but was hoping it would solve the Update problem, but didn't. I get the "Fail" error codes. 1. 80070570 and 2. 8007001F. I have 52+ KB updates and not one of them will download and install. Called MS help and for two days they had me try different things. They even took control of the computer and couldn't figure it out. I checked memory and did a chkdsk on the new HDD. In desperation for trouble shooting I put the Vista HHD back in and ran updates with no problems at all then I reinstalled the 320 G HHD. I didn't have a BSOD at all. But I downloaded and installed Microsoft Security Essentials and when I did that I would get the BSOD for what ever reason. I had a hard time getting it uninstalled because as soon as you would start windows, within a few seconds I would get the BSOD. When I finally got the Security Essentials uninstalled the BSOD Went away. Have no Idea what one had to do with the other. I just want to get the updater to work. Any Help

I am trying to update my Dell T1650 with some Windows Updates using Windows Update. 2 updates keep failing: KB971033 and IE 10 for Windows 7 x64 base system. I have tried Microsoft Fix It and other potential problem solving scenarios and when my PC reboots the fixes try to install but fail and the reverts back to its previous state. I have run sfc/scannow and no errors popup. I have also run SURT and even though the PC reboots I still run into the same failures. When the updates fail I get Code 80070BC9 and Code 9C57. I have attached the output from the CheckSur log but it shows there are corruptions in two KB packages: KB2522422 and KB2778344. This is a new PC and I am hoping these issues will resolve the issues I have installing iTunes 11 on it. Thank you for your help!

Recently I have been having issues with Windows Update. There are Three updates that I cannot install whether it be through Windows Update or downloading them manually from the Microsoft Website.

The update codes are:

KB2984976 &

When trying to update through Windows Update, I get the error codes 800B0100 & 80073712. Although when I try to install them by getting the updates from the website manually, it notifies me that the updates don't apply to my system even though they're for Winows 7. I am still able to install definition updates and another XML update worked, but not these Three. I have run DISM to attempt to restore PC health which does not even run, I also have run sfc/scannow now multiple times but it always reports that it "was unable to fix some of them"

I followed all the instructions in the posting thread and in the attachment section it says the max file size for a zip folder is 8MB although my CBS log is 20MB, what should I do? My version is Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium.

Thanks in advance.

A:Windows Update fails with certain updates only

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons) Alternatively, upload the full set to your favoured fileshare site (preferably DropBox or OneDrive) and post a link.

I'm using Windows 8 x64. I have Windows Update disabled for automatic updates, so it only updates when I manually check for them (in case that matters). It finds the updates, installs them and asks me to restart. Usually, it says underneath "Updates were installed: [date] (Failed)". When I restart, I check it back and the (Failed) is usually gone. However, when I see Update History is shows that a few of them have failed.

As far as I can tell, I can't re-download them. I don't even know if these are important updates or not. I don't know if they failed to download or to install. All other programs that I use are able to update properly, how is it that the newest Microsoft OS gets about 1/4 of its updates wrong?

This computer had a full system reset just a few days ago (the 22nd), and on the day I resetted I did an update, and already on that day it failed one update. So I know it's not due to programs conflicts, because at the time I had maybe Firefox and Dropbox installed, nothing more. Also I have no 3rd party Anti-Virus/Firewall, I rely on Windows Defender.

A:Windows Update always fails a few updates for no reason

Is this an update, fresh install, or pre-installed on your system?

Fixing oner or more of your failed updates may release the others as well, i see one of your updates requires you to download and run a particular file when it fails through windows update the file is delmigprov.exe

This is from the Microsoft website:
run delmigprov.exe to resolve an issue that could prevent Windows8-RT-KB2756872-x64.msu from being installed.

I am having problems with Windows 7 performing updates. Failures outweigh successes. Virtually nothing will update. I have performed individual manual updates on all the problem updates and it goes thru the process or creating a restore point and then the progress bar shows it installing. It then reports a failure and the failure code is always the same - 8007371B. The updates which fail are: KB2467659, KB2443685, KB 2447568, KB2416400 and successes are KB2416472, KB947821, KB915597.

I have tried the using the System Update Readiness Tool and no errors were reported.

Tried Microsoft Fix it 50202 and manual reset windows update components.

I have tried re-registering DLL with no positive results.

I went to Dell who said they didn?t have the expertise to fix the problem and referred me to their business partner ? Gizmo ? who guarantee ?No Fix No Fee?. Gizmo spent about two hours and gave up and said re-install.

My research on the WEB and thoughout this site have come up with many hints/possible solutions but I have drawn a blank.

I have attached the window log files CBS Attachment 129465

Can anyone help? I don't really want to go down the path of a reinstall.

I just downloaded 102 updates for Windows and Office it is approximately 600MB and above. After downloading, some updates maybe, 23 failed to install and 3 were said to be not needed. And I restarted my PC, after restarting, Windows Update prompts me to install the remaining updates which is not installed for the first time. Then It installs the 90% then restarts the machine, after restarting the remaining not installed updates installs successfully. What maybe the cause of that problem?

Sorry for the English. I'm Filipino

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Hi. Because I recently formatted my computer's hard drive, I have had to go online and redownload all of the critical and other windows updates for my Windows XP Pro computer. When I first started to download the updates, I had 19 Critical Updates to download. Now I think I have 10 or something like that. Well, these last 10 or whatever absolutely refuse to install! They are apparently downloaded though because I attempt to redownload them and they "download" at speeds way faster than what dialup is capable of. Well, then it proceeds to install the updates. However, every single update fails. During the attempted installation of these updates by Windows Update, my computer accesses the floppy drive for some unkown reason. It does this only once or twice. I believe that during these downloads I am running programs such as Norton Internet Security 2002 (but I don't know why this would affect it because my other downloads completed fine with this and the rest of the programs mentioned here running). I was also running Windows Messenger, Yahoo Messenger (I think), Kazaa Lite (I think), and Norton Antivirus 2002 (with Autoprotect enabled). I have not tried downloading these files with any of these programs disabled. Oh yeah, I use AOL for my Internet connection but I use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 to do most if not all of my web browsing which does include Windows Update. Please help me with this problem! Hi all!

So, my pc had started downloading updates, and a few minutes later my system hung. Desktop showed on monitor, but mouse didn't move cursor, hitting keys did nothing, including good old alt ctrl del. So I waited a minute to make sure it wouldn't recover, and hit reset. On windows startup, it installed some of the updates it had started downloading before the crash. However when I got into windows it said there were 3 updates ready for download, but whenever I try to download those 3 I get an error: Code 800B0100 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

Googling this I saw a suggestion to download and run System Update Readiness Tool (Checksur.exe), which I did, but still got the same error.
So I tried to do a system restore to the day before that crash...still no go.
So I tried downloading the updates manually and install them, but then I get told "The update is not applicable to your computer."

So...pardon my french, but what the hell should I do? I really really really don't want to reinstall windows...

PS: Updates that fail are KB2532531, KB2533623 and KB982018.

Hello Valle, welcome to SF!

This sometimes happens when, for some reason, things are not updated in the right order. There are loads of other reasons but for me this is the most common.

Did you take a look at: Windows Update - Reset

It can help you reset the update history and put in what you want in the order advised.

Sometimes you don't want a specific update. That is when you use this: Windows Update - Uninstall an Update

A:Windows Updates fails Error Code :WindowsUpdate_8007065

Hi shyamsasinran,

This is interesting, for normal updates this code suggests that another install is in progress (I not sure if Windows Defender is the same). This error can also occur if a dll is loaded that it needs to access, or if the downloaded file is corrupt.
Some thoughts
- If the update is already downloaded, try to install it in safe mode.
- Try to download the latest WD definitions and install manually, get them from the Microsoft Malware Protection Center

Good Luck

I recieve error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run. It doesn't get past the stage of checking for updates.

I've tried several fixes including:
- Waiting 15 minutes and running Windows Update again.
- Letting Windows Update run on its own schedule.
- SFC /Scannow
- Renaming the Catroot2 Folder.
- Running 3 different Fixit tools.
- Clean windows install.

After each and every one of those fixes I've tried windows update and I still get error C80003FA.

SFC Scannow has previously said no errors, but the last run through it said there were unfixable errors. I've got the log, though for brevity's sake I will keep it until someone asks for it.

Any ideas?

The computer is running Win 7 32 bit. Antivirus is MSS and I have tried to turn off "Real Time Protection"
Have also scanned the computer for malware with: mbam, combofix and Hitman Pro

I have tried several times. Also in Clean Boot.

I have also tried to uninstall Explorer 9 both automatically and manually with no luck.

The first time i ran the System Update Readiness Tool the logs pointed me towards KB2817183.
I downloaded this pack and expanded the .mum and the .cat files to ...\Servicing\Packages folder and then ran the SURT again.

This time it fixed most of the errors, but the errors in the log below remains. I have tried to download the files both in English and Norwegian version with no luck.

I've been getting failures for windows updates, specifically the quality and security rollups on Windows 7 (e.g. KB4489878). The error code reported is always 8024200D. However, this is not limited to just the March 2019 Rollup. Apparently it it has been happening
for each month's rollup for a while now. Other security and .NET updates install fine - it's just the rollups.

I've been through several of the steps mentioned on forum posts, including as well as MS's automated guide.

Renaming Windows\SoftareDistribution to SoftwareDistribution.bak (per MS Guide)
Renaming Windows\System32\catroot2 to catroot2.bak (per MS Guide)
Running sfc /scannow
Running the System Update Readiness Tool

Good evening, it has been a while. I got a custom built computer about a year ago so that I can play FSX and P3D reasonably well. Everything seemed to go ok, not great, just ok. This are my specs:
Intel i7 [email protected] - Nvidia EVGA GTX 970 4gb - Asus Z97 Maximus Hero VII - WD black series 1TB HD - Corsair RM series RM850 - Samsung 840 EVO MZ-7TE500BW 500gb SSD.
About a month ago I started to notice that my wifi connection would be lost, then come back on its own. It got worse about two weeks ago, so I tried running the troubleshooter, it failed saying an error prevented it from running. Odd I thought.
I tried running windows updater, it downloaded a number of files to update, but continuosly failed to install 3 of them, apparently related to Microsoft Net Framework.
This morning I decided to uninstall P3D, and install a clean updated version, and the setup failed, never happened before. In the forums it adviced to make sure Direct X9 is installed, tried doing that and it failed as well.
This is very stressful, and affects my immune system, which is not good for me. Can someone here please be kind enough to take some time to help me solev this mess, thanks very much.
This are some logs from what happened today.

I have just acquired a new laptop, and yes I already have a thread open to deal with the major Windows Update errors I have been experiencing with that machine. That is an ongoing open item right now.

While I'm getting things fixed, I figured I'd best also check my current laptop for errors.

Here's the good news:
-Current behavior is normal
-Windows update History does not show any errors
-SFC Verify Only shows no errors
-SUR Tool shows no errors

Here's the other news:
-WindowsUpdate Log shows multiple error entries. The first reference to an error I found was "CBS called Error with 0x800f0816."
-CBSpersist logs also show multiple error entries. In the oldest log (2/21/2015), the first reference to an error was "HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND."

Since I don't really know how to read log files, I can't tell if I have a significant problem or not. If I do, I'd like to fix it sooner rather than later. If one of you experts would be willing to take a look at my logs and give me advice, I would really appreciate it

I will post system specs plus the appropriate log files in subsequent posts. Since I am NOT facing a catastrophic issue right now, please help the folks with broken machines first.

I have been having the Windows update problem ( Update Error 80246008) since June. I found this thread

Windows Update Error 80246008 in Windows 7 - Fix

and followed all the instructions, still the BITS service doesn't start. When I try to start the BITS service I get the following error message

"Windows couldn't start BITS on local computer. For more info refer system log and refer to service specific error code 2147024893".

When I looked at the System event log , it's filled with errors about BITS service. The two errors that appear repeatedly are

1) The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with service-specific error %%-2147024893

2) The BITS service failed to start. Error 0x80070003

Another thing that I noticed while following Step 2 of the tutorial is, The folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Network\Downloader is present in my system , however I can't access it even using the Admin account. When I try to access it by double clicking on it, I get the following error message

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Network\Downloader refers to a location that is unavailable.

I have also followed the "Windows Update Posting Instructions" and the link to the CBS log file folder is given below. I have posted the link instead of attaching the file as the file size is more than 8 MB

Any help to solve this problem is greatly appreciated.
