Windows 10 Upgrade for Inspiron N7010

Q: Windows 10 Upgrade for Inspiron N7010

Ran the compatibility test for my laptop and it says Dell has not done anything to make it compatible. When will this happen? Hopefully before the free download period ends.

Preferred Solution: Windows 10 Upgrade for Inspiron N7010

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Unfortunately, Dell will not be making the Inspiron N7010 Windows 10 compatible. At the link below are the Dell Computers that Dell has made Windows 10 compatible.

I've had my beloved Dell Inspiron N7010 for 6 years. Since my warranty expired I've upgrade the RAM. My current graphics card is AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series. I'm not trained in computers per se, but I've done several repairs on various laptop/desktop models as necessary. I'm aware that I'd need to replace the mainboard in order to upgrade the graphics card.
What I need to know is how to find and order such a replacement as would work best with my laptop case. I understand most people would just buy a new laptop, and I do already own another laptop as my backup. However, I'd like to know what options I have available before I give up on my favorite trusty laptop.
It's not just a desire to upgrade, but also because the card seems to be glitching out more and more frequently. So please help!

A:Inspiron N7010 Upgrade

You're limited to another 7010 board with the same GPU - there is no upgrade for what you have short of buying a different system.
The board is this one:

I have already upgraded my i5 to and i7 but I didn't think about it when I had it open. Is it possible to put a dedicated GPU in this laptop? I know that there have been n7010 laptops with dGPUs and I want sure if it was a removable/kinda upgradable GPU or if it was soldered to the board.

A:Dell Inspiron N7010 GPU upgrade?

Etheralrealm,Unfortunately, it cannot support one if your system has the onboard video. The motherboard would need to be changed to one that you could add a discrete GPU. The onboard video chip is soldered to the motherboard.

May I ask a question regarding the supported RAM for Inspiron 17 (N7010)?
Per the service tag for this machine it shipped with a 2GB module 1333MHZ & the manual seems to agree that it will support 1333 MHz & states:
Memory Type 1333 MHz SODIMM DDR3
& when I search for parts on this laptop @ Dell it lists 1333 MHZ RAM modules there as well.
Currently this machine has 6GB running @ 1066 MHz.  But both modules are DDR3-1333 MHz (one 2GB & one 4GB)
Intel states that processor Core i3-370m supports only Memory types = DDR3-800/1066.
But it would seem to me that if you were to trust anyone in this case it would be the information @ the Intel site?
I am thinking the best configuration for this PC is 8GB RAM @ 1333 MHz if possible?

A:Inspiron 17 (N7010) Memory upgrade DDR3-1333MHz

Would like to add that I just allowed to the Crucial System Scanner to check this PC out.  It correctly identified the installed Memory & also recommended an upgrade 8GB to 1333MHz.
Of course they're in the business to sell stuff.
CPUZ shows DRAM Frequency @ 532 MHz which also equates to  DDR2 RAM running @1066 MHz.

How could both Dell & Crucial both be so wrong when the Intel website quite clearly states for this processor only Memory types = DDR3-800/1066 is supported?

Hi guys,
So my stock HDD on my Inspiron 17R N7010 completely *** out on me last week, so I bit the bullet and just bought I completely new SDD and installed it last night...now however, I need to install the OS again. Problem is, when I bought the laptop, Windows 7 came pre-installed, so I have no disc for it. How can I go about getting an installation disc and how much is it gonna cost so I can get my laptop up and running again? It's an outdated OS and the laptop is almost 6 years old, I can't imagine it costing that much. There's a Microsoft store right by me too, can I just go there and buy the Windows 7 OS disc you think?
Also, the original HDD was 640GB and this new SSD is 500GB, so the recovery disks I made when I first got the laptop are useless since Dell Datasafe Recovery (or whatever it's called) keeps telling me the harddrive needs at least 590GB of space (or something similar along that message). The smaller space on the SSD isn't going to be an issue with the laptop in general or when installing the Windows 7 OS is it?

Had gotten the message from Microsoft that my laptop could upgrade to Windows 10. Did so on 7/29/2015 and things seemed ok, but it was very slow and wireless mouse's scroll wheel didn't function. Then bluetooth stopped working. Ran the program to go back to Windows 7 and it said it completed properly, but now it won't boot. Can't go to safe mode and when I looked there are no recovery points saved. Even though warranty has expired, Dell support agreed and sent me "Reinstallation DVD" for Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit. My problem is that I really don't want to do factory reset type of install as we have thousands of photos on this laptop and they can not be replaced. Any help would be appreciated. I am using our desktop to post and I can not access the internet from the laptop. I did, when in adnavced menu, get it to boot once without the constant rebooting and it ended up at a blue screen saying I needed to run my anti-virus program. I am not that computer savy, so be prepared for a lot of questions.

A:Dell Inspiron N7010 won't boot Windows 7 after downgrading from Windows 10

You can still retrieve all your data. Download the Hirens boot disk here. Unzip the iso file to the desktop. Burn the iso file using WIndows 7 by right clicking it and selecting Burn Disk Image. On XP you can use Imgburn. If you use Imgburn make sure you opt out of any optional programs it installs. Attach a USB flash or external drive. Boot the Hirens disk and select MiniXP. Double click Computer. Your hard drive may be a different letter than C:
Copy, do not move, the files from your hard drive to your external drive. Make sure you can open them on the other computer before doing the clean install.
If you do not have an available CD or DVD you can create a bootable USB flash drive. If you prefer this method then I will post the instructions.
Edit: You may want to also save your browser favorites or bookmarks.

Do you see this message immediately after the system boots into windows or does it come up when you are using any applications? Are there any bluescreens? Does the crash refer to Intel graphics or AMD graphics message?
Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1rvWAqe
Reinstall the video drivers from the vendor site and check - downloadscenter.intel.com for Intel and http://www.amd.com/ for AMD Radeon.
When did you happen to upgrade the system with Win10? Was the system working fine while on the previous OS? This system is not compatible to work with Win10 - see this link - http://dell.to/1qRclI2

The video is unstable, ie, it continually changes resolution and possibly other parameters.
I don't have the problem if I uninstall the display driver ( AMD ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD3650/HD3450/HD 3670/HD4570/HD565v/HD4670/HD4330/HD5450/HD5650/HD5470/HD4200/HD5730/HD550v/HD540v/HD545v Graphics Driver) and use the generic windows vga driver, but of course that has a poor image.
Is there a fix for this? I have had Dell Support try to fix it and they gave up, saying to reinstall windows7, but that didn't work either.
The device manager says that the video driver is from Intel, but they referred me back to the Dell driver update utility which had nothing new.

So working on my stepmom's laptop and she said she couldn't get the computer to turn on any longer.  I found if I held the power button the light on the right side would blink orange and white alternating.  I wasn't able to precisely figure out what that meant through google for this particular model, but saw on some other models it was a sign of a dead/dying battery.  So I started with a battery replacement.  At this point the battery didn't signify that it was charging at all and when I pressed the power button with the AC adapter plugged in the light on the right would flash once and then nothing.  If I held the power button down the light on the right would flash until released.  I tried the Fn + PWR and nothing other than the right light blinking once and then turning off.  So next I bought a new Dell AC power/cable charger (I'm not sure the correct term).  Same results.
Next I bought the DC power input jack replacement part and put that in.  Same results.
I bought replacement RAM.  Same results.
Today I tore the entire thing down cleaned it up and there was very little dust throughout the heat sink assembly.  Cleaned up the factory thermal compound and put some Noctua thermal paste down in it's place.  I also took the opportunity to change the CMOS battery out with an Energizer 2032 battery.  When I put it all back together I plugged it in with the new RAM, battery, and ... I'm trying to connect my Samsung TV with my Dell laptop through the HDMI port.
1. Another laptop does connect with my two Televisions (both are Samung) (i.e., video/audio signal go from the Laptop to the TVs).
2. My Inspiron N7010 used to connect successfully and then just stopped.
3. When I plug in the cable into the Dell HDMI port, the display settings do in fact show 2 monitors and the device manager shows "[TV]Samsung LED48" under the heading Digital Media Devices.
4. In display settings under the header "Multiple Displays" I have tried both "Duplicate These Displays" and "Show only on 2" without success.
5. Also when I plug in the cable in the laptop's HDMI port (and when I unplugged too), the laptop does in fact react - the laptop screen goes black for a second before reappearing and a connectivity tone is heard on the laptop.
6. The audio does go silent on the laptop.
7. Neither TV carries the Audio or the Video signal from the Dell Laptop.
In short, the Dell laptop does detect the connection but does not transmit audio/video signals to the TVs.
I have run diagnostics, tested for unwanted programs/viruses etc.  I have found nothing.  I have searched for updated video/monitors drivers without success.  Rollback drivers is not an option because the button is grayed out.  I have disabled/uninstalled drivers without success.  The device manager report that all devices are working properly.

cynpow,Unfortunately, Dell does not support Windows 10 on this computer. There are no Windows 10 drivers available from Dell for the n7010.  That does not mean it will not work. Without windows 10 drivers for the hardware in the system the system it may not perform as well. The memory issues you are having is more than likely not the physical memory, but Virtual Memory. Below is information to adjust the virtual memory settings in Windows 10.Increasing Virtual Memory in Windows 10Go to the Start Menu and click on Settings.Type performance.Choose Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows. In the new window, go to the Advanced tab and under the Virtual memory section, click on Change. At the bottom of the new window, check what the Recommended value is and how it compares to Currently allocated. If the current setting is significantly less than the recommended, uncheck the Automatically manage paging file size for all drives box at the top of the same windows and then click on Custom size.Enter the Recommended value in the Initial Size box, and a larger figure in the Maximum size box.Click OK to save the new settings.

I came across a Dell Inspiron N7010. Everytime I turn it on, the Dell symbol comes on, then the bar goes around and fills, then it should start to load windows vista. Well when it starts to load Vista it stops and give me a blue screen that says different errors almost every time it does this. The last time the error said something like

My DELL Inspiron N7010 is getting old and it's showing it's age. It runs super slow and everything lags. I was hoping that a reformat and fresh Windows install would help a bit, at least until I can get a newer laptop (hopefully soon). I'm running Windows 7 on this machine, which is what it came loaded with. There isn't a restore partition and I don't have any recovery disks. I've read online that you can reinstall Windows from the "Advanced Boot Options" menu but I can't seem to access it. From what I've read online, pressing either <F8> or <Ctrl+F11> during bootup should get me to that menu but neither of them does anything.
Any other options for me to access that menu or to reformat and reinstall Windows on my PC? I don't have any disks, as I said, and I really don't want to try and purchase a new copy of Windows for this guy.

A:Restoring DELL Inspiron N7010 to factory settings

As soon as you power on the computer start tapping F8 and see if you get the Advanced Boot Options. Be sure to back up your data before doing the reset.

Aloha Chev65 & Centaur78,
Many Mahalos for the assist you've been giving to KrazyJethro...I've got the same problem so your posts have helped me to at least get crucial info for your review via ?SFDT?. I've also attached a screenshot of our Dell Laptop system info. This is the wireless client giving me problems.
I can play with the settings and finally get it connected then after a while of usage, for no reason it'll loose connectivity. If I reboot the machine, still no connectivity, I have to go into device manager and disable the LAN adapter for about 30sec. Many times even that doesn't work.

Our network consists of Cisco/Linksys: 1) Router,LINKSYS-E3200, 2) Switch, LINKSYS-EG005W ver3, 5 port Gigabit Workgroup Switch, 3) Range Expander, LINKSYS-RE1000-RM. Additional devices are, 4) NAS, NetgearReadyNAS NV+V1 (RND4410-V1), 5) Printer, HP OFFICEJET PRO 8600 N911a, 6) 2 wired clients, 7) 6 wireless clients (Dell Laptop & HP 8600 included).
The newest addition to the network is the range expander. The problems with the laptop have been ongoing for several months but are now more frequent.

The HP8600 also receives a error message of not being able to reach the server. Our connectivity problems with the printer have also been ongoing for several months.
Mahalo & aloha for any assistance you can provide.

This is not a typical BSOD crash. My Dell Inspiron's monitor intermittently doesn't wake up once power management shuts it off. The problem is monitor doesn't fully shut off. One way to know the monitor won't wake up is when the CPU is griding away, fan is on full blast, laptop heated up, monitor still has a faint white brightness but no disk activity. I have tried connecting the laptop HDMI and VGA output different monitors and TVs but the monitor/ TV doesn't recognize any input signal during this phase. Yesterday, CPU suddenly started griding away without a pause while I was working and the base plastic was so hot I couldn't place it on my lap anymore. System Idle was 95-99%; I wanted to check whether laptop will not wakeup after power management kicks and this morning I couldn't wake up the laptop and had to cold boot it

I cannot put my laptop to sleep or hibernate when this occurs, the computer will just keep griding away with fan at full blast but will never hibernate or sleep.

I've run chkdsk, defrag etc but no issues were reported. I have checked for viruses etc, nothing obvious. Any help on what I can do next and how to investigate this further would help.

Thanks in advance

very stubborn about loading drivers from intel so the path, I think, is to completely eradicate the Dell driver stack, uninstall the device, use Win7 x64 Device Manager to install from a folder that we would pull from Intel's Zip wad.

but which? tried several and failed. part of the issue is nailing down exactly which chipset/proc/HD version is in play... the topline description of the driver packages at Intel Download center don't tell one whether its Generation 1 or 2 or now 3 necessarily so we only find out at the unpacking stage via the notes.

sheesh.... this shouldn't be this difficult

Access the Dell downloads using your service tag and the download list will show the original hardware configuration and type of video. www.support.dell.com I would start with the Dell driver download and work from there. The Dell may fix your problems.

I have an Inspiron N7010 laptop( about 3 years old) that came with 4gb RAM. I want to upgrade to 8gb. I have tried 3 different  brands of memory
including Dell memory. I have run extensive memory tests( the Dell memory does not fail ). I have the exact memory part number that Dell support
has given me. In ALL cases, after installing the 8gb RAM, the laptop boot and then at some point will simply shutdown ( just like you powered down ).
The system info from the control panel shows that all 8gb is recognized.

I have looked for and installed all the bios, chip set, and cpu upgrades from dell.

Does anyone have an idea why this is happening ?

A:N7010 crashes after 8gb RAM Upgrade

My problem is resolved.  I now have 8 GB (4GB + 4GB) of working RAM in my Inspiron N7010.  I have tested it thoroughly and used it over the course of a day, so I am certain that it works.  Knowing that my FSB was running at 1066 MHz, I made sure that I ordered memory that also ran at this speed.  I'm glad I did, just as Tom Heafey who appears in this thread three years ago.
I ordered two AM85180 memory cards from archmemory.com in St. Louis.  Each one is a 4 GB, 1066 MHz, DDR3-1066, PC3-8500, 1.5 V, 204 pin SODIMM memory card.   This was NOT Arch Memory's first recommendation, but I insisted on 1066 MHz memory.  They may now change their recommended memory on their webpage for the Inspiron N7010 based on this experience.
There may be other memory cards which can operate at multiple speeds which could work in this computer, but it is a hit-and-miss proposition to try to find them.  The memory vendors seem to have no idea what will work in that case!  On the other hand, these memory cards are optimized for this computer.  Consequently, they worked the first time.

I have the Inspiron 620 and tried the windows 10 update. All seemed ok although the video playback was strange, I assumed codecs would need updating. The next start up came with no sound, I tried updating drivers with no luck, I then tried the front headphone jack and surprise, the sound was fine. After a little more playing around the sound came back on (not sure why) .The next day no sound again and very grainy video, after a couple of unproductive hours I restored the machine back to windows seven. This did not come without problems though, the factory installed OS image has been removed and all system scheduled tasks have been corrupted. It has taken a few days to get the machine running ok but restoring the system tasks is complex and the best way to fix this and I assume the recovery image will be a full restore using the system back up discs I made when the machine was new. I have tried asking Dell the question but they do not seem interested in the many many Inspiron users across the world.

Dear All,
I Had just bought a new Windows 10 pro CD from a retail shop.
But my Dell Inspiron 13 5368 2-in-1 is not letting me to chose windows 10 pro in the start of  installation process .
It continues itself choosing the windows 10 home for the new installations every time I tried.
I tried doing clean installation by removing the default partition but no solution come up.
Please help and advise to install windows 10 pro in my Dell Inspiron 13 5368 2-in-1.

looking too hear your feedbacks.

A:Not Able to Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro on Inspiron 13 5368 2-in-1

If you have a retail license, you may be able to go to the Activation page and change the License Key there.
The way you normally upgrade to pro is to get an upgrade from Microsoft and it installs over the current Home version.  But since you have the license you could try changing it.
This may effect any recovery options you have  available since the Dell recovery is for the home version.

Hello. You have posted your question on the Laptop Audio discussion board. This is out of my area, which is laptop audio, but I would either perform a clean installation of Windows 10 (google it) or revert to the prior operating system that worked in the expected manner.

This upgrade totally screws your audio output, it doesn't   recognise the conexant device. As usual Dell disclaim any responsibility for this although crowing that windows 10 upgrade will be trouble free. What's the point of an upgrade if it downgrades your computer's functions?

Hello. Thanks for posting. It seems to me that Win10 is the most audio-unfriendly Windows yet.

Hi, I spent countless hours and download allowance trying to upgrade my Inspiron 580 desktop from Windows 7  to Windows 10 - this after the initial checks told me that is was compatible (last year).
After going over my data allowance three times, I had to stop the automated Windows updates (Win 10) and contacted Microsoft Support - they tried various time to assist via remote control, without success - and only yesterday the ninth differend MS Customer Support agent checked if the Inspiron 580 is in fact (still?) compatible for a Windows 10 upgrade.
Imagine my surprise and frustration, when she sent me a link that my desktop PC was not compatible - hence my note here now: Anybody can give me hints and tips how to successful upgrade to Win 10, which drivers to look out for (which I might need to change) and what else I need to be careful of.
Thanks for any help and advice!

Last week I purchased a new desktop from Dell.com. The desktop comes with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit pre-installed and also came with a free copy of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Windows 10 came with the desktop in the form of a DVD that I have picutred here: http://i.imgur.com/Z3N84IS.jpg

Does anyone have experience using the Windows 10 Pro 64-bit upgrade disc that comes with this desktop?

Here is the product page for the desktop: http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/i...-1225267-824c6ebe280311e69835e23186a66fe00INT

I popped the included disc in, rebooted the computer, and then hit F12 to boot from the disc. The disc ran and I attempted to select the option to install Windows 10 and keep my files that are on the drive. It attempted to install but then stopped because there was a "partition missing". So instead, I then tried another option which was to wipe the entire drive clean and install Windows 10. That didn't work either because drive is locked.

Here is a link to an Imgur album I created: http://imgur.com/a/JprJf - This album includes photos I took of the Windows 10 install process so you can see what I am dealing with.

I considered upgrading to Windows 10 via the icon in the system tray. But I haven't done so thus far. I wasn't sure it was the best method. Will the Windows 10 upgrade I get from that be Windows 10 Pro? I'd feel more comfortable installing from the disc since they did give it to me afterall. And having a WORKING copy of Windows 10 on ... Hi....I recently got a "new" open box Inspiron 14R 5437.  After getting it all up to date, I decided to go with the 10 upgrade.  The upgrade procedure went well,.....but I have multiple issues with the task bar area....no start menu, no Cortana or search,.....nothing works as expected in the clock/date area,.....some of the other taskbar icons will respond to right click,...but left click to open does nothing.....
I decided to roll back to 8.0,......then went to 8.1,........tried 10 again,..still issues as before.
Any suggestions what to do to fix this?

hi, there, one of my laptops that i use for business is a Dell Inspiron E1505 (in properties, it is listed as an "Inspiron I6400" model). the following are its specs:

1.86 GHz (1.87 GHz)
1.00 GB RAM
32-bit OS
Windows Vista Home Basic + SP2
graphics card: ?????????? (i have no idea where to find this info)

i'd like to upgrade this unit to Windows 7 for a reasonable price and then upgrade for free to Windows 10. so, my question is, is this unit ultimately compatible with a Windows 10 upgrade?

i would sincerely appreciate any input from someone who has this laptop model and who has tried to upgrade ultimately to Windows 10. if i can successfully do that, then i can use this unit for mobile sales via the PayPal Here credit card swiper (as an app currently exists for that). that way, i can still use a unit that is fully functional in the hardware and not create more e-waste.  <:-\

A:Inspiron E1505 <------can i successfully upgrade this to Windows 10?

Even the least expensive Windows 7 upgrade will set you back upward of $100 -- more than the entire system is currently worth (they seem to be selling between $50-100 on EBay as used, working systems).
Stay with it as is for as long as it stays alive -- it's not worth upgrading the OS, and even Vista has some support life left in it.

Hi Thanks for reply. My friends Inspiron 1545 came pre-loaded with Vista Home Premium 32 bit. He bought the activation key from Sofoway in Banbury. They sent a link to Microsoft to download Windows 7 Pro 64 bit., which I did for him, as he’s not computer literate. I clean installed Windows7 Pro and then did the free upgrade to Windows10 Pro 64 bit. His computer was running fine. He came to pick it up from my place. I showed him it running Windows 10 and he was happy. Then about ten days later he called me and told me that he’s installed his mcAfee unlimited Internet Security, which he’d purchased from PcWorld. He got the activation key card, went home and went on McAfee, downloaded the software and so he tells me, after it activated, he got a message from McAfee telling him all his drivers were either out of date or weren’t installed. He called them and they passed him to some company on the phone that he doesn’t remember the name of and they offered to update and install any missing drivers for 80 pounds sterling and they requested him to activate Remote Assistant, which he did so they could take over his laptop and configure the drivers and missing drivers. He gave them his, either Debit card, or Credit card details and they took the 80 pounds from his bank account. He tells me that his laptop is running fine now, but it was running fine when I did the Windows 7 installation and the Windows 10 free upgrade, so I don’t understand why his l... Read more

Any chance the 32 bit vs 64 bit was involved when McAfee was installed?  Maybe McAfee was for Windows 7 and not 10.
I have a 1545 which seems to run Win 10 fine, although I had previously replaced the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card.
Have your friend check the Event Viewer and go through the logs.  Something may be there which would help lead to solving some problem.  Keeping track of what time something happens would help in finding entries in Event Viewer.

I took the free upgrade to win 10 from 8.1. I have a new XPS with Win10 and wanted alignment. This laptop has 8gb mem with 2.2 cpu. Usually I don't usually upgrade but I felt this laptop was compatible. Since my upgrade I have experienced slower function. I'm not that happy about win 10 in general as my XPS had other issues from day one and I had to do a complete OS reinstall. I think I need another reinstall of the XPS because I lost all my One drive connections in file folder and it won't remember log in and pw that I set to remember - little things like that. Others Inspiron 15 issues. The touch pad is awful but I just use a wireless mouse on the right side of the panel. I keep on having wireless network card issues and will drop off forcing me to run trouble shooter or reboot.any comments welcome. I was thinking of rolling back to 8.1.

In the newly deployed GetWindows10 app, there's an option to "Check your PC" - when I choose this option on my Inspiron 14z, I get:
Windows 10 will work on this PC
This PC can be upgraded but there may be some issues.
These devices aren't fully compatible with Windows 10
AMD Radeon HD 7570M (with a bluetooth icon beside it??)
You'll experience problems with your display
These devices might not work correctly after the upgrade
Bluetooth Server (with the same bluetooth icon)
Intel Corporation
I'm not inclined to upgrade if it's going to result in problems either with my bluetooth OR my display. Any change that Dell will release updated drivers to address these issues? Other options?

I currently have an inspiron 15-3520 laptop that I bought in 2012, that came with Windows 8 pre-loaded. I have updated to Windows 8.1 and are wondering if I can get the free upgrade to Windows 10 when it comes out. Any response would be appreciated, thanks.

A:Windows 10 Upgrade - Dell Inspiron 15-3520

Had the same problem after Win10 upgrade, my 3520 had a black screen and 3 beeps.  NONE of the traditional resets/setup/fixes worked! The only way I got mine and a neighbors 3520 going again was to remove the CMOS battery, which resets it enough to let you in the BIOS via the "F2" key at the now visible -Dell start-up screen- and then you can set the BIOS to reload the default values and restart.  Now you should be able to get in to your previous windows OS or Win10 (depending on how far the Win10 Upgrade got before it died) -in my case back to Win7 and Win8.1 for my neighbors.  The hard part is getting to the CMOS battery... take the laptop apart (all the way) AC/battery removed, remove keyboard (4 small push in  tabs along top of keyboard) then remove 3 cables (all marked with blue color/tabs) 1.) flip brown cable connector clasp to the right to remove keyboard cable, 2.) lift brown connector to remove power cable (upper left) and 3.)  lift brown connector to remove track pad cable.  Next remove 2 screws from the hole now open from where the keyboard was removed (the only 2 screws down brown plastic holes, middle left and upper middle) Now flip over laptop and remove all screws from bottom and then flip back upright and separate top of case from bottom, you have to gently pry apart at several points (guitar pick is a great tool or small screw driver) around case until top pops off, set aside.  The CMOS battery is a round flat cr2... Have tried 9 times to upgrade and all have ended in failure. I have tried all the suggested fixes on the internet and nothing works. When I called Dell customer support I was advised to call "Microsoft" for support. They gave me a number. When I called it was a 3 rd party company that wanted to sell me a dix for $399. SHAME ON YOU DELL!!!! Your customer support is terrible.
Anyone who has a suggestion on getting Windows 10 up and running would be greatly appreciated.

How to Repair Corrupted Windows System Files with the SFC and DISM Commands
1. Run sfc /scannow
Will have 3 outcome as below :
1. Windows integrity cannot find any violation : means OS is stable
2. Found error but able to fix : stable but no major file and registry impacted, but may have issue soon
3. Found error but not able to fix : indicate os having issue.
2. Run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth to restore Image health, as the command will capture update from microsoft server.
If cannot try to restore, repair boot mbr and last option only do clean installation.
