DEFAULT print settings

Q: DEFAULT print settings

Don't ask me how I did it, but I must have changed a setting when in MS WORD or WIN XP.

EVERYTIME I print a doc on MS WORD, a doc summery sheet is printed too.

How do I turn this off? It is driving me crazy and wasting paper and ink!

Please respond in DUMMIES 101 style.

Preferred Solution: DEFAULT print settings

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: DEFAULT print settings

Try printing something via File -- Print. With the "Print" dialog displayed, click on "Options". You may find that "Document Properties" (under "Include with document") is checked -- if so, uncheck it & continue the printing. This should reset it for subsequent prints.

Forgive me if this has been posted, but I'm getting database errors when trying to search. I print from IE7 a LOT from a work application, and have to change the zoom to 70% and set landscape almost everytime. Anyone know of a reg hack that can set the defaults to what I need them to be?

Add the following key:

In that key, add the following DWORD value:

This only works if I set it to 100%. If I try to put it at 70 (or any other value, for that matter) it defaults back to Shrink to Fit. Any help?

Does anyone know how to change Kodak Imaging default print settings so that it shows "Fit to page" in the Print format drop down under the Image Options tab on the Print dialogue window?? Yeah, you may think this seems like just a normal message from oc'ing too much, but a problem-I haven't overclocked anything! It booted to that point, then my hard drive went mad clicking and crashed. This was after it being turned on and off to see if my graphics card was booting because I had no video, but it turned out I had just been downright stupid and plugged it into the onboard graphics. Anyone know what could have happened? Thanks

P.S. would the power drawing thing (molex on my case fan) need to have a seperate connector or just draw power from another device? Thanks.

A:'Previous overclock settings failed, default settings enabled'

If this happens just once then I wouldn't worry about it too much but the PSU or HDD could have something to do with it.

You can connect a molex connector fan to its own power connector or you can put it on an optical drive's connector for example, but it's ok to do either as they don't use much power.

I cant print on my default printer, when I try to it crashes whatever program you are using. it worked before, and others on the network can use it fine. what could this be?

A:Can't print on default printer

I recently had the same issue. Assuming your using XP just go delete everything including the ports. Then xp should plug and play or if your accessing over the network its should remote install. This is usually easier than trying to trouble shoot a connection problem.

Since installing a new computer last month, printing has become troublesome. I want default print preferences for all Word 2010 documents to be single-sided printing at Fast Draft quality, but I find no place to set such a default and have to open Printer Properties and make adjustments in the settings for nearly every document I print.
If I don't go through this irritating and time wasting process, documents will often print double-sided or at 'Normal' quality. It's very rare that I need 'Normal' or 'Best" quality (both of which slow down the printer and use more ink) and it's even rarer that I want to print double-sided. How can I set the default preferences I want and be assured they will remain the default for all Word 2010 documents, whether printed by 'File, Print' or by clicking the Quick Print icon on the Quick Access toolbar?

(windows 7) I accidentally messed up the security settings in the "Default Folder" (a shortcut?) of the Users folder.
I removed administrators permissions , that caused my pc to be unable to restore to previous restore point correctly. However, I was able to re-add the admin permission and everything now is fine.
Yet I need help here.
1 could anyone post screenshots of the default "default folder" security settings? I need to set it back to the default one even though now it works fine.
2 why the hell does that folder NOT HIDDEN? Are yours not hidden as well? Of course the option to hide all system file is checked on my pc. The only reason I messed with that folder is because I thought it was just a normal folder and not a system folder. Anyway to get it back to be invisible?
Thanks for helps in advanced. And I don't want to go to Microsoft supports because they always give robotic replies with no helps at all.

I normally use OpenOffice- but like the light feel of AbiWord and set it as my default .rtf program. It always worked fine until recently I plugged my Brother HL-1440 laser printer into a different USB "outlet" on the computer.

That goofed everything up- until I re-installed the printer; (for every other USB appliance I have- the computer seems to make allowance- but for this printer it seems to make a difference- I can live with that).

Every other piece of software seems to accept the new default printer "HL-1440-second copy". But AbiWord doesn't seem to "get it". When I select >file >print- it shows me the print dialog--- even shows the correct default printer and tells me it is "READY"--- but it won't print too it.

I tried re-installing AbiWord-- to no avail. Same thing. I guess I could try each of the USB outlets until I find the correct one-- but somehow that seems like giving up too easily (there are 6).

I was a bit surprised to not find AbiWord listed in the Add/Remove Programs under Control Panel--- apparently it installs differently. I did re-install it over itself.

thank for your considerations,

I have 4 printers on my network that I have a perculiar problem with.
These printers have been installed locally and set up for A4 paper. THey are shared across the network as all the printers are.
The problem is that no matter what application is being used the printer settings within that application always default to letter when using any of the problem printers.
It doesn't matter if they are being used locally or across the network the problem is the same.
Obviously the applications are not picking up the details from the printer settings in NT.
The problem I have is why these 4 printers on these 4 PC's.
2 of the printers are HP 6P laserjets, but I have others on the network that are fine.
The other 2 are panisonic KX p1150 and KX p2023.
I have tried reinstalling drivers, to no avail.
I am not sure if the problem is hardware, network or NT based.
Has anyone seen anything like this before?

A:Print settings

Most all Apps default to Letter size papper. This is a software thing. Now there are a few things, With HP, you should be able to edit it in the Printer settings (on each workstation) to use A4. But also where you are printing from will also need to use this format (when sending to the printer). Otherwise it will default back to Letter (becouse that is what kind of doc it gets from the app).

I could be wrong, but I think there is a Reg hack to make it stay. Seeing how I have never used any kind of papper other then Letter, I have no clue where to point you to find that hack.

Guess I wasnt much help after all,

Hi! A couple of weeks ago at work we changed our domain controllers which has our companies printers networked for all to use. The new domain controller has windows server 2008 instead of 2003 like our old domain controller had. Here is the problem: We have some users here that send documents to their user box so that confidential info does not just print out. About a year ago when we first set up the printers on our old domain users could select print properties on the print driver on the pc locally and change the output from print to save in user box and after selecting this it would stay for the user until they went back into change it. So basically once the user selected for the output to save in user box they never had to select that again it stayed locally in their print driver for them, but ever since we changed domain controllers and had to set up the printers again the save in user box wont stay, it will stay for the user maybe a couple hours or a day but eventually goes back to print. Not all users want to print to their user box so we dont have the default set as that on the domain controller. I dont understand before using the new domain controller they could pic a setting in their printer properties and it would stay until they changed it, now it is defaulting back to print. Can anyone offer me any advice?

Hi Guys

So can anyone help me out with how to print the BIOS settings before I start tweaking & fouling it all up again.

Thanx MB

A:How can I print out my BIOS settings?

Tip: I have heard that it is possible with some BIOSes to get the BIOS setup screens to print out on the printer. Turn on the PC, and boot up DOS. Then hit {Ctrl}+{Alt}+{Delete} to reset the PC, and go into BIOS setup. On some systems, the routine that handles the {Print Screen} key will still function, and you can use it on each of the BIOS screens as a nifty shortcut! It won't work on all systems, and it won't work when you first cold start the PC, since the Print Screen handler hasn't been installed yet at all.

Hello Wan, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If this helps, this is what I found for this:

Valve Corporation uses .GCF games cache files both with its Steam computer game online content delivery platform (used for downloading computer games and content from the Internet), and with its Source 3D game engine (used to render realistic 3D graphics in their games). Valve Corporation also developed the game Half-life (along with its sequels) and the .GCF files is sometimes specifically associated with this game, although it is entirely possible that .GCF might be generated by any of Valve Corporation's games..

If you have Half-Life or another Valve brand game, then reinstalling the game to repair it without uninstalling it should fix the file association also.

Hope this helps,

My boyfriends computer wouldn't start up so we had a tech (friend) look at it. He did somethings to the computer including replacing the video card.

Now all of the programs are in the start up menu and starting when the computer starts up, but thats not the problem. Why do the programs keep going back to the default settings and how can i fix this.

Can I change the default settings for Font and Font Size, and the Page Margins in WordPad and Microsoft Works 2000? If so, please tell me how. I am getting tired of having to manually change the settings every time I start a new document. Thank you, Robert

A:default settings

I don't believe this can be done in WordPad.

However, in Works:
Change Works Default Font
Selecting the default font in Microsoft Works is a simple matter. Open the MS Works word processor and in the menu bar to Format | Font | Style. Click on Font and Style and a dialog box pops up. In the dialog box, choose your font by highlighting it, then highlight the font size that you prefer. Select a color if you choose or leave the color on auto. Move to the right side of the dialog box and click on the Set Default button. This font choice will appear every time that you open Works. If you are changing the font for a single document only then click on the OK button. Click to expand...

Q. Every time I create a new document, I want it to follow a specific style, such as using default margin settings. How do I do this?

A. To specify custom settings that apply to each new document, you should create a blank document with those setting, and then save it as a template. To do this, use the instructions below:

Create a new document and apply any settings you want in your new documents. For example, if you want all new documents to have a .5-inch margin, apply that change in the Page Setup area.

On the File menu, click Save As.
Click Template.
Type a name for your template. To use this template for all new documents of that type, select Use This Template For All New Documents.
Click OK. Click to expand...

Using this second bit of advice, you can change both the font ... Read more

I was told that there is a setting that allows you to restore " default settings" if i am a user and i downlload a program from the net . When the machine is rebooted it is gone? win2k.. We have about 400 users and they can download anything all the cute screen savers and cursors then complain about a slow machine. I realize that i am fighting this battle from the wrong end the the other end is not at my control

A:default settings

There are ways to restore defaults to individual applications or OS components, but I am not aware of any "global default restore" capability. The closest I know of is with XP where you can roll-back the system to a previous checkpoint if the right options are enabled. But, there is even a problem here... if you don't know what you're doing you can "un-do" legitimate changes to the system. You may have better luck by figuring out how to use "permissions" to restrict what the users can and cannot update.
