BSOD After Quitting or Alt + Tabbing Games (CSGO)

Q: BSOD After Quitting or Alt + Tabbing Games (CSGO)

Hello friends.

For more than 6 months now, I've been having BSODs after I quit or alt+tab the game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The BSODs don't seem to have any sort of pattern aside from not happening at all unless I have already played the game in the current session. They can happen right when I close the game, some time after I've closed it (5 minutes to 5 hours - feels really random) and also while I'm outside the game, but the game is still running in the background.

I don't know what else to do. I have already bought a new laptop - but it happened in the previous one too. I have formatted the current laptop countless times. I have tried multiple drivers for every single piece of hardware I have. I have plenty of friends who have the same BSOD (with multiple games), and none of us could solve it, but I'm the one who has been facing the problem for the longest time now I believe.

The BSODs are usually "Page_Fault_in_Non_Paged_Area" or "System_Service_Exception". Files always seem to be "win32k.sys" and "cdd.dll". Since I've last reformatted this laptop, I didn't have that many occurrences, but putting all of the BSODs together, I've probably had more than a 100 of them.

My system specs:

Laptop: Avell B155 Max (it's a barebones Brazilian brand - Avell)
Processor: Intel Core i5-4200M Haswell @ 2.50 GHz
Mainboard: no idea. No software recognizes it. CPU-Z lists manufacturer as "Notebook", model as "Titanium B155 MAX"
Memory: 8GB DDR3 HyperX
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4600 + GeForce GTX 850M

Please, I beg your help. Using the computer is unbearable as it is, and I don't know what to do anymore. It's not an old machine (roughly 6 months old), these kinds of problems should not be happening, and I can't find help anywhere on the internet or outside of it.

Please find attached my dump file.

Thank you so much in advance, even if you just read my thread. These BSODs are just out of hand right now, I really need any help I can get at this point =(.

Let me know if I'm doing anything wrong - it's my first post in the forums.

PS: Sorry for not posting the error number in the thread title - I just can't find it in the Event Viewer for some reason, and I never have enough time to write it down. Maybe I should disable auto-reboot so that I can see it next time a BSOD happens.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

First off, thanks so much for your time and expertise! I've been having this issue for a while now, but it's gotten to the point where it BSOD's about once a day. It mostly happens when I alt tab or quit a game (dota 2 is a common one) but it can also happen at any time, even when I'm away from the computer.

I don't have an error code, but this is the info windows gives me after I crash:

Daemon Tools is a known cause on BSODs, uninstall it.

Code:
DAEMON Tools Lite "c:\program files (x86)\daemon tools lite\dtlite.exe"
I also suggest removing AVG as it too can cause issues.
I recommend installing Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes as a replacement.

Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

Make sure you don't enable the free trial of Malwarebytes pro

It's usually cdd.dll page_non_fault or something like that, or sys32 or something? maybe win32? I don't know.

Hello all,

I recently made a new PC build, everything went fine and all drivers are up to date and the latest. However when playing ANY game in fullscreen i sometimes get a BSOD and if i Alt+Tab our of one it will 90% of the time BSOD. Latest 3b is the BCCode that i get, i have tried sweeping and reinstalling graphics drivers however this did not work. This problem doesn't happen with anything else and does not crash if i play in windowed or border-less, however i use a crossfire setup so i need to use fullscreen to use both GPUs.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Okay so I have a custom built pc and for the longest time I didn't have a gpu, I just used the internal graphics. I just bought a gpu this month and after using it for a while I've been getting BSOD after quitting my games. The game will be in the middle of quitting, then bam, blue screen. I have a couple of bent motherboard pins which I feel could be causing the problem because one of my RAM slots doesn't work either. I plan on buying a new motherboard soon but I was told by a friend that it might just be the gpu itself, hence why I am making this post. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I'm new to this forum so apologies for not providing all relevant info right away.
The issue I'm having is that my computer will BSOD randomly while playing games such as CSGO, Civilization V and Europa Universalis IV. The time I play before a BSOD occurs seems random, although its usually before 30 minutes of gameplay.
In other instances, my computer simply turns off without warning, and then restarts itself without even presenting a BSOD. Attached is the BSOD file I've been instructed to upload. Any help would be much appreciated

I had a few BSODs while alt+tabbing playing WoW or Hearthstone. This has never happened prior to the last few days. I didn't catch the error codes but hopefully the log shows them.

The only changes I've made recently is updating the Intel? Ethernet Connection I217-V drivers.

EDIT: It had a weird crash where the screen went black and was still on so I manually shut it down. When I turned it back on it went into the windows repair thing and is now attempting repairs.

EDIT2: Now it won't even start without blue screening. I can only use Safe Mode. Safe Mode with networkong blue screens too. I got a USB and am ready to clean reinstall. Should I?

Hi friendlybear,

All the crashes are 0xF4 caused by hard drive problems, there are Input/Output errors (ioerr) in the dumps which means that the data cannot be accessed.
In safe mode you can try a few things that are probably needed.
1. Remove ASUS software, known for causing bluescreens.
2. Remove IObit software, its software isn't what you might think and Advanced SystemCare 8 causes problems.
3. Test your hard drive

My PC started crashing suddenly after installing Windows 10. I obviously thought it was fault of the OS so I reinstalled 7 Ultimate x64, yet the crashing kept on happening. I haven't done any changes to my PC and it's been stable for months. Last change was GTX970 in May. i5-3570K is overclocked to 4,4GHz but it's been rock solid so I doubt it's the cause of issues. I'm honestly completely out of explanations.

Setup: i5-3570K (4,4GHz @ 1,32V), MSI GTX970 (Stock, was OC'd before), ASRock Z77 Pro3, 2x4GB G.Skill Ripjaws 1600MHz, Samsung 840 Evo 250GB, Kingston 60GB SSD cant remember model, 1TB HDD.

From what I can tell, the issue shouldn't be GPU, Memory, PSU or SSD/HDD drives. I doubt my OC'd i5 would suddenly start acting up as it's been stable and temps have been good (I'm running AIO water). I'm pointing the finger towards motherboard as it's been acting up once in a while, but I'm not sure if that makes any sense.

I've tried:
Reinstalling clean Windows a few times - crashes and BSOD here and there keep on happening with nothing installed apart from standard drivers, Steam and CSGO.

Reinstalling Windows to another SSD - no effect.

Downgrading to 3 different Nvidia drivers and been using 353.30 - maybe little bit less crashes, no real effect

Running Memtest86 for 8 hours - 0 errors

Running 3Dmark on loop for 2 hours while overclocking the card - stable as a rock, TDP 110% so PSU should be fine

Taking another memorystick out - no effect

Alright, so I have done a little research before making a thread here as I really don't want to waste anyone's time, but I am at wits end here with my problems.

Background:

Around 30th December I bought myself a SSD and installed it into my PC and created a fresh install onto the computer and everything ran fine for about a month then I began to get constant BSOD's (0x3b and an occasional 0x50). After a bit I decided to do a fresh install (about 1-2 weeks ago) to see if it would help the problem but alas, the problem has ensued.

I had not changed anything hardware wise since installing the SSD apart from placing it on a SSD mount.

When using WhoCrashed/BlueScreen view, several drivers keep appearing (ntoskrnl.exe, nvlddmkm.sys, win32k.sys). After seeing the video related problems I potentially though it could be driver related and reverted back to the drivers I was using before this BSOD's with a fresh install (GeForce 332.21 Driver). Sadly after a short period, the BSOD's resumed.

I am quite confused about this issue and even though the WhoCrashed program relates it to a software bug, I am unsure as nothing in my system changed from running fine to BSOD's, and the problem persisted straight after a fresh install (same setup in which the system ran fine for the month before BSODs).

This computer is brand new and just over a week old, and when playing a game, upon either tabbing out, or back into the game after having been tabbed out, I sometimes get BSOD. For example, I was playing Metro 2033, then I tabbed out and open Chrome to look up something, then when I tabbed back into the game, I was greeted with a BSOD. Using BluescreenViewer to see the minidump files, the issues seem to be caused by win32k.sys and ntoskrnl.exe. Just wanna figure out why this is happening and I'm worried if it's my hardware. Good evening-

I've been experiencing BSOD's at an increasingly frequent rate since early July. It only seems to happen when I am playing, alt-tabbing out of, or exiting online games (GW2, FFXIV), or streaming video. The most recent BSOD took place last night during an FFXIV session. The most common error messages are system service exception and system thread exception not handled, though there have been a couple of others.

Once the BSOD's started, I downloaded Nirsoft's blue screen viewer - almost all of the crashes are linked to ntoskrnl.exe, nvlddmkm.sys, and dxgmms1.sys. The real issue is that the problem is fairly intermittent - one crash per 2-3 days. When I had a ram stick die on my last year it was pretty simple to diagnose, but I've proven unable to track this one down using my normal methods. Research online hasn't pointed to any specifics so I thought I would ask some experts for help.

Things I've tried so far:
Uninstalled all drivers and programs installed since the blue screens became frequent in June.
Updated nvidia drivers.
Ran chkdsk and virus scan with no hits on either
Updated BIOS
Ran memtest for 4 passes (about 2 hours) with no errors
Discarded an old, unsupported USB headset (which I thought was the culprit until a few nights ago)

I am not a very accomplished debugger, so any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Update:

I realized that I had beta nvidia drivers installed and rolled back to 320.49 WHQL, which given that I had that driver installed during several BSOD's might not fix the issue, but I did do a clean install of the drivers during the rollback.

Hoping to play FFXIV later tonight, so I will update with another dump if I crash again.

Unfortunately I forgot to record the error, but next time the BSOD occurs (which is randomly), I'll update this post.

So whenever I open a steam game, or alt tab from a full screen game, I either get the errors: "PAGE IN NONFAULT AREA" or "SYSTEM SERVICE EXEMPTION"

I recently just bought this computer, but this occurred on my old one as well. Any help would be appreciated, and apologizes if I left anything else out.

Am running WinXp Home SP1. PC spec is 2.6Ghz, 512 ram, ATI Radeon 9600, 120GB hard drive.
Everything is working fine at moment (said with fingers crossed), but several games that we play, eg SIMS2 Halo, Command & Conquer etc seem to hold on to the system resources after we quit the game. We have no problems playing the games, but after quitting the computer takes about a minute to even rebuild the desktop, let alone respond to any commands. We normally have to restart the pc before it will respond with it's normal speed.
Question is, why does this happen and is there any way to prevent it?
Thanks

Its because when you play a game, it needs a lot of processing power + memory + video card memory and after you play the game, it is not automatically recover by windows. So I suggest you download a memory recover program. Look for such programs in cnet try rambooster. There are so many programs to say. Thats your solution.

Adhyan23 Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! There may not be much you can do -- as this is what laptops are designed to do -- reduce processor performance when running on battery to conserve power. You might look in Power Options (in Control Panel) to see if there is an option to set your laptop to Maximum Performance.  That will prevent the processor from automatically throttling back when on battery power -- but it will SERIOUSLY reduce the time it will then run on battery power. Laptops are not designed to do high-performance gaming when running solely on battery power.

However, now I have a 1-2 seconds lag time where my screen becomes completely black before going back to the desktop or game. I was wondering how to get the instant alt tab back if possible.

Whenever i am playing a game, every 20-30 minutes i will get alt-tabbed to my desktop. Whilst in some games it is just annoying, having to spend a few seconds alt-tabbing back in to find i have just lost my PVP fight, in other games it simply stops me playing. An example is Fallout 3 where most times when i alt-tab i can't get back in without a game restart. Out of games, my monitor will go black for a few seconds and then go back to whatever window i had open. I've had this problem for about 3-2 months now and am about to punch a hole in my wall.

Been going on for several months now, computer's around 2 years old and some tell me it's probably the ram going dodgy, but painfully long tests have been done on it and shown no issue.

Happens sporadically when faffing about in Chrome, and with some degree of reliability when tabbing into and out of games (enough to have a microcringe when doing so).

On average there's a bluescreen every 2-3 days.

Whenever I alt tab out of a game like CSS, bioshock, or crysis the game goes from full screen to windowed, and it sucks! Cuz it's not working properly like that either. When that happens, and I start walking around and moving the mouse, if I move the mouse too far and it goes out of the game's screen, I'm able to click outside of the game and it interrupts w/e I was doing in the game. The cursor is supposed to be fixed in the middle of those shooting games, but when I alt tab and the game gets windowed, it doesn't, although it appears to be until I end up moving the mouse too far and clicking...anyone else having this problem?

Hi recently I've been having an issue with all of my games alt-tabbing out and minimizing. Also it would randomly freeze in-game with a non moving cursor in the middle of the screen, until I ctr+alt+delete. I've also noticed a big fps drop in one of the games, world of tanks, from 25-35 down to 10-20, and I have a good setup. This happened to my previous pc to the point where I couldn't run anything. My windows 7 OS isn't genuine, could that pose a threat to my firewall, or make it easier for viruses or hackers to get in and infect it? I'm stumped, it only recently started acting this way.

I've had this build for over a year and have been playing both CSGO and GTA with no problems for quite a while. The first BSOD came whilst using the shadow play feature that Nvidia offers. I turned shadow play off and did a fresh install of Nvidia Experience and updated the drivers for my GPU (Nvidia Geforce GTX 750 ti). This seemed to work for about a a day or two and then I had another BSOD. Since then I have been experiencing BSOD irregularly. Sometimes I can play any game for hours with no problem, other times I have BSOD as soon as I start the game up. I've checked for memory errors, updated the GPU driver, scanned for malware and I'm still at a loss. Would greatly appreciate any insight. Thank you

Hey all,

So lately in the past couple weeks outta nowhere I've been not being able to play CSGO because it will just crash and BSOD after a while of playing (like 10-30 minutes). However, while playing any other game like Overwatch or Rust it doesn't crash at all and the BSOD issue doesn't occur. So I just decided "fine, I won't play CSGO", but now it just happened whilst browsing the internet a couple weeks after CSGO bsod became a regular thing. I have the dump files and this is a formal request for help, so thanks to anyone that reads the files and can give me any info on what I can do. Thank you

My PC is fairly new, bought it around a year ago.
