Lenovo G70-80 processor upgrade possibility??

Q: Lenovo G70-80 processor upgrade possibility??

Ok so this is a complete shot in the dark question. I have the Lenovo G70-80 i3, does anyone know if the same laptop was released with a better or faster processor? Wondering if it's possible to swap main board to something with a bit more power.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A friend of mine who lives in another state recently advised me of coming home from work one day and finding her computer off. She normally leaves it on all day and has it connected to a high-capacity battery-backup unit.

When she turned on her computer, it didn't even stay on long enough for the desktop to load before it shut down again.

She took it in for repair and was advised that the processor cooling fan had stopped working, which is why the computer was shutting down when the processor started getting too hot.

The processor cooling fan was replaced, and she now has the computer back home and working fine.

My question is: Would this have caused some residual damage to the processor that will rear its ugly head later and cause problems?

------------------------------------------------------------------

A:Solved: Any Possibility Of Processor Damage?

Modern CPUs are designed this way:

If temperatures raise beyond a certain threshold (Depends on the CPU) they will start throttling. This means that the CPU will run slower so less heat will be produced. If temperatures continue to raise then the CPU will shut down in order to prevent possible damage. That's what must happened to your friend's computer.

So according to my knowledge any damage must have been avoided and the CPU will run fine. I personally had a similar problem with my C2D E6300. Well it's running flawlessly for more than 2 years, so I guess your friend will be fine.

If you still want to check you can run a CPU stress test (Many programs do that - Everest is a good example). This will ensure that the CPU is running stable. Honestly though, I believe that it's just fine.

Hello, I have a Lenovo g470, and I was wondering if it would be possible to get an Ivy Bridge processor. The manual says the following ones are compatible: Intel I7-2620M 2.7G 4M 2c J1 PGA processor CPU.Intel I5-2540M 2.6G 3M 2c J1 PGA processor CPU.Intel I5-2520M 2.5G 3M 2c J1 PGA processor CPU.Intel I5-2410M 2.3G 3M 2c J1 PGA processor CPU.Intel I3-2310M 2.1G 3M 2c J1 PGA processor CPU. But as it Ivy Bridge are backwards compatible with SB, I wonder if I could get a 3ª processor and put in this mobo. If not, does it worth to change from i3 2310m to anyone of these above?? i5 2540m has 200mhz higher clock on gpu and i7 has more l3 cache(4MB), or should I just leave like this?? I appreciate any help. Thank you.  (Sorry for my bad english)

What cpu do you have now?How about a i5?i5-2450M will work. Not sure on the i7s, but would be second gen for sure.Maybe i7-2620M, or 2640.Chipset should support i7.But alot depends on the bios support, and if Lenovo didor did not sell that model with i7. Probably not, so biossupport may not be there.

A:Processor upgrade for Lenovo V570

hi razvyslim,

Welcome to the Forums.

Your problem might be similar to this thread.

From page 77-78 of the hardware maintenance manual (HMM), the V570 can take up to:

Intel I7-2820QM 2.30G 8M 4c D2 PGA processor - FRU#: 102001055Intel I7-2720QM 2.20G 6M 4c D2 PGA processor - FRU#: 102001071Intel I7-2630QM 2.0G 6M 4c D2 PGA processor - FRU#: 102001070Intel I7-2620M 2.7G 4M 2c J1 PGA processor - FRU#: 102001069Intel I5-2540M 2.6G 3M 2c J1 PGA processor - FRU#: 102001068Intel I5-2520M 2.5G 3M 2c J1 PGA processor - FRU#: 102001067Intel I5-2410M 2.3G 3M 2c J1 PGA processor - FRU#: 102001066Intel I3-2310M 2.1G 3M 2c J1 PGA processor - FRU#: 102001065

Since you have a dual core CPU, the Intel I7-2620M should be the highest CPU that your motherboard can take.

The Quad Core CPUs (I7-2630QM, I7-2720QM, and I7-2820QM) uses a different motherboard (see page 77 of the HMM) so I wouldn't try these CPUs as they're unlikely compatible to your motherboard or worse, may end up frying your board due to the heat that these CPUs are producing.

Regards

The Pentium Dual Core T2310 is of a different socket than that of the Core Duo T2250. The T2250 is Socket M and the T2310 is Socket P. You can upgrade to Core 2 Duo T7100, T7300, T7500, T7700 as long as your chipset isn't the GL960. Only the GM965 and PM965 chipsets support 800MHz FSB.

Hi everybody. Got a question with my e531. I have one, that originally was with pentium 2030, 4 gb ram and nvidia gt 740m. Now I've added 4 more ram and thinking of installing i5-3230M. The question is - does my chipset support all functions of i5-3230M including hyper-threading? It seems that it should, as lenovo support shows by serial number, that I've got HM77 N14P-GV2 motherboard that meens it is based on HM77 chipset. But I'm still not sure, if there's no any functions blocked that my pentium does not have. And another question - is it possible to install an SSD in addition to my hard drive, not instead of it, to install a windows on it? Probably instead of my dvd-drive as i don't use it at all. Thanks

A:CPU upgrade possibility?

You aren't going to want to hear this, but no new CPU in that system will make much of a difference.......and I doubt you will be able to "feel" any difference at all IF you can find parts for it. Time to save up for a new build that you will be happy with instead of sinking money into an old computer that won't be any better off than when you started.

So, I've just found an i7-3610QM, which will fit the Motherboard of my laptop just fine (rPGA 988B).

The only thing I don't know is if the CPU will actually work if i install it. It'd be a waste to buy it and find out it doesn't work when i put it in the laptop.

If someone from Toshiba could tell me, honestly, if the BIOS is locked down to one CPU or not that would be great, as I could use having 4 cores and 8 threads instead of 2 cores and 4 threads.

My only other concern with it is the motherboard power delivery. The power delivery is currently running a CPU rated for 35w, which under the most strenuous of loads only draws about 26. Could it support this new chip if it works, considering that it's TDP is 45W (so the running wattage may be around 37-38W). Cooling shouldn't be an issue at all

However, i have read in different places that the UEFI bios on the inspirion 660 aren't compatible with many of the newer graphic cards such as the GTX980 series, is this true? And if so what can i do to fix this? get a new motherboard altogether?
Also, are there any other general tips and things i need to know before upgrading my case to a bigger one?

I spotted the following which is talking about the Windows 7 upgrade program that shall be available to new PC purchasers starting July 1:

The Windows 7 Upgrade Program Debuts July 1, 2009 - End-date is yet to be determined - Softpedia

However the bit at the end talking about the restriction on the upgrade available (i.e. if you buy Vista 32-bit you will only get Win 7 32-bit when you upgrade) got me wondering if a similar restriction will apply to retail upgrade packages.

When I bought my retail upgrade from XP > Vista there was a leaflet inside offering a free 64-bit DVD if needed.

I was hoping the same would be offered for a Vista > Win 7 upgrade as I really want to go x64 this time. I'm now wondering if this will be allowed.....

A:Worrying possibility for future Win 7 Upgrade path

I suspect the retail version will be much like it was for Vista. The article is only talking about OEM. If you had an OEM of Vista 32bit, I believe you had to pay to get 64 bit.

So, i got this message after i upgraded my Asus Notebook to Windows 10 Home from 8.1. What got me to check this was having my laptop Hard Shutdown when the power was at 100% and the laptop had been on the charger all day, plus the CPU temperature was normal.

The exact Error that's provided via Event Viewer: Collaborative processor power controls on processor 5 in group 0 are disabled due to a firmware problem. Check with the computer manufacturer for updated firmware. This message is provided for each of my 8 Processor Cores

Unfortunately, there are no new Firmware Updates for my laptop model from Asus. Last one was pushed in October 2014. Very odd seeing as i got this new in December 2014.

I want to know if this is something serious, or if i should just ignore it. An error having to due with Kernel Level Power Controls seems serious to me.

So, i got this message after i upgraded my Asus Notebook to Windows 10 Home from 8.1. What got me to check this was having my laptop Hard Shutdown when the power was at 100% and the laptop had been on the charger all day, plus the CPU temperature was normal. I went into event viewer to see if there was any ACPI error's listed and this came up.
