I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was confused that Factory install was Vista , but Boot Logo shows XP as you stated later , so you are running XP now ?

Either way , that error code usually happens within XP and can be contributed to the hard drive or actually booting fully.

Have a look at this other similar post answered by Hamluis previously that fixed the same issue , if it doesnt Post Back.

Hello
My laptop is Dell Inspiron 14 N4050.
The problem is why it stucks in BIOS and cannot go to windows after I tried installing Windows 10 last time. That time the screen showed "there is not complete drivers inside". After that when I shut down forcefully and turn it on back the screen appeared in blue color and saying please call technician.

These happened after I send my laptop to a Computer shop for reformat. Then backed home I downloaded the new Windows 10 OS and after completed the laptop cannot be used. I think maybe the shop that I send my laptop do not put all the drivers. and the result my laptop cannot be upgraded and now cannot use anymore. many files located inside and I cannot take them back. so sad. please help me.

A:WHY MY LAPTOP STUCK

First thing to do is run an extended hard drive diagnostic - the root of all the problems could be a bad drive.
F12 at powerup.
This system doesn't have official support for anything newer than Windows 8 -- though some have reported 10 will install and run (the audio is the part where the drivers usually fail).

It's not really causing a problem (isnt typing repetitive spaces or anything) its jus kind of annoying. How can I fix it?

Thanks in advance

My mom was updating her laptop and it told her to restart her computer to finish updating. She restarted it and a message came up saying "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Do not turn off computer." It froze and she restarted her laptop again. It went back to the same message and is stuck on it. Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

A:Laptop stuck

Try bringing up the Advanced Startup Options by tapping F8 as soon as the laptop is turned on.

Then highlight "Last known good configuration" and press <Enter>

Hopefully that will get you into Windows but it won't solve the update problem.
It could be caused by malware so please post on the malware forum as we aren't allowed to help with malware on the non-malware forums.

Hi @Littletigger35 Welcome to the HP Support forum. Happy New Year ! This is happening because the computer cannot successfully and fully load Windows. This may be hardware problem or software problem. Did you perform some change recently ,something new these days, last hours before the issue started ? Perform hard restart/forced reset. More info and how to here >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768/    Please, perform some basic hardware checks 1. Please, shutdown the computer using the power button2. Power it on.2.1 As soon as you press the power-on button, immediately begin hitting the Esc button (like tap-tap-tap).This should open a HP Startup Menu which may look similar to this one 3. Choose F2 to open System Diagnostics. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform System Test >> Quick test. This will check major hardware componets for issue (do it just in case) . Here is more info >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259#AbT1 If there are no system checks/no quick tests, perform HDD and RAM check. Let me know the test results. If the tests pass without issues, continue. If not, please, let me know 4. Repeat steps 1-2 above but when HP Startup menu opens, please choose F11 for System Recovery options. The computer should boot from it's recovery partition to open you various recovery options. Unfortunately I have a work laptop I have to use. I'm running Win7 to write this but I had a few BSODs and it's put me off. Anyway, I can't find the original install files to blank everything and start again (rosettaStone language pack discs & excel)

I've already upgraded the HDD. RAM is 2GB, CPU is dual ~2gb. Win7 experience is 2.2. I've also used TuneUp to check nothing I don't need is running on startup. I've defragged including the pagefile.

As you can imagine XP has got bogged down. I'm running TuneUpUtils and this has definitely improved things a lot but it's such a shock to go back to compared to fairly fresh install of Win7.

It turns out that this laptop isn't actually compatible with win7 and Dell offer NO drivers for it. All the drivers are from intel and microsoft. I guess I shouldn't risk it any more with this laptop on Win7.

I guess what I want to understand is why a reinstall every year or so has to be the only way with everything... just to hard to go the other way...

I have Windows Vista on my computer. In the boot menu there were three options on which OS I could use. I could either choose Earlier Versions of Windows, Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional setup. In advanced system settings I set Windows Vista as my default OS and then checked the box so that it would wait 0 seconds before booting up. Now it is automatically booting up to Windows XP setup. It starts windows but then stops and I get a message that a .sys file could not be found. It makes me restart my computer and then it automatically enters into the same setup. I can't get out of this loop. I tried putting in a recovery disc and having it boot from my CD drive. Nothing is working. How can I get my computer to boot with Windows Vista instead of the bad setup file? I don't care about losing the information on the drive. I just want to be able to use my computer. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'll go ahead and mention that this might be on the wrong forum as this machine might have had another OS installed but I could find out that this had Vista from the factory (which version of Vista I couldn't find out) so I guess this is my best bet.
Machine isn't mine, we borrowed it from our uncle for my sister to use, computer illiterate as she is she can't even tell me which OS it was using (likely W8 but I never touched it either and asking my uncle about it wouldn't feel right).
After a couple weeks it stopped working out of the blue, she tells me she was using it one night and it had little battery left and it ended up running out and the machine shut down and she went to sleep, next morning it wouldn't boot.
I imagine the problem is the battery, I used Hiren's BootCD to test it a bit and everything seems fine, I ran a bunch of tests with Mini Windows XP and only thing that seems out of place is the fact that it won't detect a battery when using one of the apps it has that deals with the battery, the laptop does work without being plug in though so I don't know if that's really it.
I tried recovery mode on startup but that doesn't work either, it just goes back to bootlooping.
It's a Compaq.

Any help would be appreciated.

When a laptop is starts, you usually would usually see something like the following:
1) "Windows is loading files..."
2) "Starting Windows"
3) "Screen where you log into your computer"
4) "Computer Desktop"

However, what I saw when I started the computer was the following:
1) "Windows is loading files..."
2) "Starting Windows"
3) "Light grey screen where I can see and move only the mouse cursor"
and an intermittent low volume cricket noise (for lack of better words)
4) no change from 3)

Someone gave me a free refurbished version of ASUS U50F-RBBAG05 because it gave the above problem.
So, despite being a noob (but not a noob noob) at fixing computers, I tried to make a clean install of Windows 7.
However, the laptop decided that it didn't want to install the software--(clicked on install button and waited 3 hours).
The laptop just stayed at 0% progress.

So, I was like, "Okay, so let's TRY to restore this thing back to factory settings via Recovery Partition."
Although I waited on the Light grey screen for about 30-60 minutes, I finally got to the screen that I needed.
Alas, although the laptop did "start" the recovery process, it ended up the same--0% progress and did not budge

I know that the Windows 7 installation disc was not the problem--I had 3 other installation discs (all legit).
Since the laptop decided to not move from 0%, I figured that getting the ASUS res... Read more

A:Laptop stuck at startup?

A "cricket noise" and Windows failing to load during startup is a good indication the hard drive may be dying.

They don't last forever, and they tend to have a shorter life in a laptop than in a desktop.

Should I try the same with a Windows 7 disc for starters?

A:Used Laptop HP HDD upgraded to Win 10 Pro with key now stuck...

Sorry ... I missed the part about you having a Win10 license.  I thought you were trying to activate 10 using the HP OEM license and that was causing problems. I don't use the HP encryption apps -- as personally, having recently finished a career in InfoSec, I find the whole emphasis on encryption of PCs to be laughable -- but my guess is that you're basically out of luck. If it were my drive, I would WIPE the drive of all its contents and then install Win10 afresh.  A good product for doing that is DBan:  http://tiptopsecurity.com/how-to-securely-wipe-your-hard-drive-with-dban-erase-your-data-for-good/ Once your drive is clean, then just install Win10 on it. That said, with any luck, one of the HP EXPERTS will probably come along and tell you how to bypass their encryption. Good Luck

I got someone's old laptop with Win XP on it.  It has a lot of problems which I was going to ask for help in another thread, but now I have a new problem.

I ran a CHKDSK while in Windows, and it told me it couldn't complete in read only mode.  I set it to run the next time Windows starts.  Now it's in an endless cycle of scanning.  It will scan (which takes hours), reboot and scan again.  If I hit a button to skip the scan, it hangs and won't start Windows.  If I try to boot to Safe Mode, it hangs as well.

The last thing to load before it hangs while booting to Safe Mode is:
WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\aswRvrt.sys

I'm lost, I don't know what to do at this point.  Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Drew

Hi,

I'm struggling with this, hope you guys can help.

Sometimes when I go to Start -> Power -> Shut down, it displays the "Shutting down..." window, then the screen goes black, but the laptop won't turn off completely. That is, the WiFi, Bluetooth and Power (light bulb) indicators are still on (and the battery indicator too if plugged), and I have to force (power button long press) the laptop to shut down. I can also turn off the WiFi and Bluetooth devices using the keyboard at this stage (with FN button). And if I keep the laptop this way long enough (unplugged), my battery will be completely drained.

I say sometimes because this seems to just happen randomly. I could shut down my laptop at some point and it will turn off just fine, but a few hours later when I shut it down again it will get stuck.

I googled and tried everything I could come up with but nothing seems to work. I tried 1) taking the laptop apart, disconnecting and reconnecting literally everything I could see, 2) cleaning my laptop, 3) resetting Windows and BIOS to factory settings, 4) replacing my SSD and installing Windows from scratch, and 5) formatting my HDD. Googling for solutions I mostly found people suggesting disabling Fast Boot so obviously I did that too.

The only change I made before this started happening (at least that's what I remember) was disabling hibernation (cmd admin -> powercfg -h off), so this may be related, but I'm not sure. This seems hardw... Read more

I used to play games like Half Life 2, America's Army 2, and so on with no issues whats so ever. On fairly high. It has a ATI Radeon 9700 with 128MB ram on a AGP 8x slot.

No matter what power settings I do, It seems stuck at 798MHz. You'd think when you loaded half life 2 it would change the CPU to the proper speed, but it doesn't. It stays stuck at 798MHz (Half Life 2, while playing, says 798MHz by cpuZ).

What can I do? I can't find any over clocking tools for the AMD CPU, or the Radeon 9700. Windows 7 works so great on this laptop and I don't want to downgrade to XP.

I can't find Windows 7 SIS 755 Drivers. "Base System" says unknown device.
Looking at the temperatures, it says (Core Temp 0.99.5):
CPUID: 0xF4A
APICID: 0
Revision: SH-CG
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (Clawhammer)
Frequency: 798.20MHz (199.55 x 4.0)
Platform: Socket 754
VID: 1.1000v
TEMPS
Core #0: 81F
Low: 75F
High: 84F
Load: 0-15%
Laptop is set to 'High Performance'
System Cooling Policy:
On Battery: Active
Plugged In: Active
(other options are passive)

My cpu seems so sluggish. It really feels like 798MHz. I rate 1.6 because of my CPU
CPU: 1.6
Memory: 4.1
Graphics: 3.8
Gaming Graphics: 3.7
Harddisk: 4.4

So I don't get what's going on. Could it be a chipset issue? I can't find any kind of Sis drivers for this thing.

I found CPUID here are some results:
Processor 1... Read more

One thing to note is my FRAME RATE NEVER goes below 10fps. This is really, odd. If I was lagging really bad it should go well below 10fps... This was tested on L4D, HL2, and HL2 EP2. Red Orchestra seems to play perfectly on medium @ 800x600 resolution..

I was going to install Omega drivers but I can't find any for Windows 7.... I don't want to get a new laptop yet, but when my job requires me to use one I'll just buy a modern laptop that works..

Hi,

I have a laptop with XP that has become unworkable because it is always "thinking" and takes forever to access or do anything. I have MS security essentials and I need help please.

It is an oldish Dell and I just want to be able to use it to do the basics and browse remotely.

Can anyone please walk me through what I can do to clean it up and get it working to a decent standard?

thanks,
Navale

A:XP laptop stuck in low gear....help???

the four steps I use for a 30k mile checkup:

1. Run TFC by OldTimer (link and directions below)
2. Run ntregopt
3. Run pagedefrag
4. Defrag the harddrive.

In that order.

Clear Cache/Temp Files
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Hi I have read through all of the messages in the My Laptop stuck at "Please wait" for ever.  forum area, and I believe I know WHY it happened, I just cannot figure outhow to fix it.  I think I turned notebook off (maybe) during a windows update - that's the only thing i can think of.  I've tried taking out battery, checked plugs, removed zip drives, did F11 and held down power to shut off, turned it on and off waiting 4 secs in between as someone suggested. HP support please help! Also, if I need to buy another notebook, will i be able to use my pc to pc data transfer? ThanksVanessa     HP envy 17 k000

If it only boots with the AC adapter plugged it chances are that the battery needs to be changed.

Dell Inspiron 1525 - Windows Vista

Yesterday I tried to turn off my laptop, but it got stuck in the "logging off" process.
I turned off manually and turned it on again, but when it starts it says Resuming windows,
and goes back to the logging off stage...
Please advice.
Thanks!

That problem was addressed at this forum and the poster did get a fix. Worth a try I suppose.

I see 4 video drivers two are nVidia and two are Intel. Which of the four drivers is installed?

Since there are a few models with different letters after n550jk, it would help if you posted the exact model and not just the broad model name.
