XPS15 laptop ultra sensitive to vibrations

Q: XPS15 laptop ultra sensitive to vibrations

I have an XPS15 laptop (it says Reg Model P56F under the XPS door at the bottom). This laptop is extremely sensitive to vibrations, hits or jolts to its case. For example it can be running normally, but if you drop a pen or pencil, onto the keyboard area, it will freeze. If you have it in your lap and rotate around a chair and it bumps the edge of a desk... it will freeze. If you bump it into anything, chances are it freezes. Usually it freezes with a scrambled screen, sometimes portions of the scrambled bits are flickering or moving, like an old NES game that you had to blow on the cartridge before it played. Sometimes it freezes with the screen going black (but the backlight remains on). The only way to recover is to hold down the power button until the laptop turns off. Then you can power it back on and wait 5 minutes at the Windows 10 Please Wait... spinning circle until you can log in again.

I've already had the laptop sent out for this issue. It came back with an upgraded 4k touch screen. I love the screen, its such a great, free upgrade. But the problem persists. It's not AS sensitive as it was when it had the regular 1920x1080 matte screen. Before you could drop a pen NEXT to the laptop and that small of a vibration would cause the freeze. Now you can bang on the table as much as you want, and as long as you don't touch the actual laptop, it remains operational.
It just seems like an overly fragile laptop for having SSD drive in it. Does anyone else have this experience with the XPS15? Could the all aluminum chassis be touching and shorting the mainboard? Maybe the interior panels should be insulated next time.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just received my Dell Inspiron 17R laptop with Windows 7.  I am loving the laptop, however, the keyboard seems extra sensitive to me.  In the middle of what I'm typing, the cursor will jump back a line or two and start inserting type there instead of where it was previously.  I thought I was maybe dragging my hand across the mouse window while typing to cause this, but I've been typing with my hands raised above this and it is still doing this.
Is this a defect or are these keyboards really just that sensitive?

A:Ultra Sensitive Keyboard!

I have the same problem.  Just started a day ago.  I thought it might be a virus, so I scanned everything and nothing was there.  Then I started searching for answers.  One other post said it has to do with a Dell upgrade.  If you find a solution, let me know!

Hi all,I recently bought an ultra dock for my t460p in person from a previous owner. It's basically like new. According to him, he had bought it for his thinkpad but switched to Mac pretty soon afterward, rendering the ultra dock useless. It's been two days and I'm pretty pleased with the dock. It does what it was advertised to do. But there's one thing that really bothers me. It's extremely sensitive!Sometimes, just moving the laptop lid or evne pushing down on the laptop a bit will cause it to disconnect from the dock, or disconnect suddenly and reconnect. I think it's physically being detached, but I thought the ultra docks were a lot hardier than this? Is it really supposed to be this finicky? This happens if I lock the dock with my keys as well. Did I get ripped off with a defective device?

For some time now, I see that the latest mice have a high resolution + are laser

I have to admit, I'm coping just fine with an old optical mouse

Resolutions where never mentioned before?
What does a higher resolution give to you more than an ordinary mouse?

Obviously better - but how and why?

A:Solved: Do I need an ultra sensitive high resolution laser mouse?

Laser is actually not better, it's just newer and cooler. And harmful, in some cases, to your eyes.
Higher resolution gives you, well, more accurately moving mouse. I'd say the best thing out there, just on general level is something like the Logitech MX518. Optical, high quality, nice resolution, back and forth (or mouse4 and 5) buttons, change of sensitivity on the fly. Nothing too fancy and extra. It is, of course a bit of a gaming mouse, something cheaper will do just perfect for office work, web browsing, photoshopping, etc etc.

Hi all =). I'm getting a computer made with a 450w power supply. I'm getting a Geforce 6800 Ultra at least, but the company recommends a 480w supply for this card. I've heard of people having problems with their power supply not being able to cope with this card, but I don't know exactly at what power their power supplies ran. Will I run into any problems with the power supply I'm getting, or should I upgrade to 480w or more?

Don't know if you need this information also, but I think this may also effect my power supply:

Asus K8V SE Deluxe Motherboard
Athlon 64 3400+
1.5 GB pc3200 DDR Ram
120 GB HDD

Also heard that AMD uses less power than Intel or something...sooo I was thinking that perhaps my graphics card will not be affected as much because of this...but dunno. Help would be greatly appreciated =D.

A:Regarding Geforce 6800 Ultra, Ultra Extreme, or Asus v9999 Ultra Deluxe

One, Use a title once.

Two, nope nVIDIA GeForce 6800 families or newer REQUIRES 480w of psu minimum, PERIOD. it is not matter how much watts amd or intel uses, what you means that you must have 480w or higher to have GF 6800 working properly.

Recommendation, get ATI Radeon 9600XT or 9800XT, they merely used up less than 350w.

You will get better games or things out of ATI instead of nVIDIA due to power usages

I have a 4 or 5 year old XPS15 laptop that I purchased new running Windows 7.  Computer has ran great until a couple of weeks ago.  It has now started to randomly go into hibernation.  This will happen anytime and I can't find a pattern.  When the computer does come back on, I don't lose anything even if I was in the middle of typing an email.  All hibernation setting in Control Panel are set to "never".  Below are things that I have seen and tried.
-50% of the time the computer will hibernate then un-hibernate itself within a few seconds
-10% of the time the computer will hibernate and will come back on when pressing the power button as you would normally
-40% of the time the computer will hibernate and not come back on for 2-3 minutes.  I will close the cover and unplug it and that seems to wake it up, but not really sure if it is coincidence.
-I use the laptop screen and a separate monitor.  Sometimes when it comes back on the laptop screen is black but my other monitor works.  Sometimes I have the opposite happen.  Eventually, both screens will work after a random hibernation
-This random hibernation also occurs when I am in the BIOS screen using the F2 key at boot up
-I have updated all my drivers and BIOS to the latest versions with no effect
-The random hibernation has no pattern that I can find.  Does it no matter what software is running.

Please help!

A:XPS15 laptop randomly hibernates

What is the exact system model?
If the system was working fine earlier, then perform a system restore to restore the machine to an earlier point where it was working fine - http://dell.to/1Sg6khF
When you mean hibernate, do you get the message stating - the system is logging off and does the procedure occur like it is shutting down? Or does the system still stay on, however the display goes blank intermittently?
These are 2 different scenarios and need to be isolated accordingly.
If the system does hibernate - then disable the hibernation and delete the hiberfil.sys file - http://bit.ly/1jQEo5V - restart and check again. This should resolve the issue.
Restart and check in safe mode.
Enable the built in admin account and check - http://bit.ly/1Bgok2R
If the screen goes blank intermittently, however, the system is still on, then there is a different set of instructions you could follow to help resolve the issue.
Based on your response, I shall advise further course of action.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your Name for case records.

I would like to know how to fix this.
Im using a Vista labtop. With Vista settings.

A:Laptop button too sensitive

I'm on XP right now, so I don't know the exact place of things in Vista. But in control panel, classic view, you should have an entry related to the keyboard.
When you enter it, you should be able to adjust the repeat delay and the repeat rate.

Hello everyone,
I have my xps 15 for a few months now but still I haven't found any solutions for my problems.
1st Problem:
Whenever I boot windows (or sometimes after energy-saving mode) the keyboard just doesn't work at all. I already tried waiting for a few minutes and smashing every button on it, nothing made the keyboard working again. To solve this I have to restart the computer after that it works.
2nd Problem:
Whenever I close it while running, it just won't "wake up" again. The power-button-light lights after opening the laptop but the screen stays black.
3rd Problem:
Sometimes when I want to boot windows it just won't. I see the "DELL"-logo then the few blinks at the top-left corner of the screen (A white '_' blinks 3 times) and after that nothing happens.

So these are my problems. I hope somebody can help me with these because it's very anoying if I have to start the computer twice so that it works like it should.
If you have any more detailed questions please ask them.
sincerely SgtDomo

P.S.: I have most of the "recommended" drivers installed but if you think I am missing one, please also tell me

Hi Peoples,
I just received my new Dell UltraSharp u2412m monitor!
Now I try to connect my Dell XPS15 laptop (via its mini displayport connection) to my new monitor via a mini displayport to displayport cable.Sadly it doesnt seem to connect and the monitor instantly goes into Power Save Mode...
What am I doing wrong here? Is this possible/compatible in the first place?
Thanks very much in advance!
Ps. the monitor instantly works with an old laptop via vga connection...Plug and play...

Try using a different connection--hdmi would be best if the laptop has that. You can use a hdmi to dvi cable--same technology and those work. Those can be bought for less than $10.

My Samsung laptop's mousepad is so sensitive that I can just barely brush against it and it takes me to who-knows-where, and it's extremely aggravating. I can't find anywhere in the mouse settings to adjust the mousepad - just the mouse pointer and hardware.

Is there a place to fix this kind of problem?

A:Samsung laptop mousepad is too sensitive!

My Samsung laptop mousepad is so mega-sensitive to even a light brush against it, and it'll redirect me to the craziest places and do the weirdest things when that happens. it's so aggravating and it seems to have only started about two or three months agon (I've had the laptop for about 18 months now). It's a good computer in every other way except this one.

I've played around with the settings in Control Panel, but nothing impacted the mousepad's sensitivity. This isn't referring to the mouse pointer - only the mousepad itself.

Any suggestions?

My keys seemed to be pressing themselves. What I thought at first was a virus, is actually just a highly sensitive area of my keyboard. The topleft area of my keyboard, I don't think it's just one key, are too sensitive. With just my hand resting on the case near them, they act as they were pressed, and sometimes they hold themselves down until I move my hand to that area again. This happens with the ESC key mainly. But actually pressing the ESC key does nothing now. This area is generally where I rest my hand while gaming. Any suggestions/fixes?

I've had my HP Pavilion DV9000 laptop for a year now, and apart from a persistent (and slightly annoying) overheating issue, I've been very pleased with this machine.

Recently, however, the touch-sensitive media control strip along the top of the keyboard has begun to malfunction. The sound toggle and volume control sections of the backlit strip turn off, flicker, change color (red and blue) and otherwise stop working.

To make things even worse (or more interesting) such errors like the light flicker seem to be tied in to my typing on the keyboard, especially around the wasd area (left and lower side).

I'm figuring this to be some sort of shorting circuit or the like? It's odd... sometimes I can fix the error by randomly tapping along the left side keys. Now it seems to be stuck with the entire strip non-responsive, and both blue and red LEDs behind the sound toggle turned on.

If anyone could suggest a solution? It's that or I'm debating just taking the laptop in for a repair run.

A:HP laptop touch-sensitive control problem

If the thing is still under warranty, then you should have it repaired by an official HP representative.

Other than that, you could try removing the keyboard and making sure that the keyboard cable is making good connection.

(Also, you haven't poured something in the lappy, have you?)

I am having a difficult time getting used tthe trakcking pad on my new Acer Travelmate laptop running Windows 7.
First, how can I stop a window in the background from popping to the front of what I'm doing just because the cursor accidentally scrolls over it?
Any why does the cursor stick and not respond regularly? I can't find a program that might be running in the background using up all my RAM thus stopping the cursor from moving. It stops for 15-30 seconds (which seems like forever) and then begins to respond again.
Are these problems which can be fixed? If so how? If not, would buying a wireless mouse for the laptop solve these two issues?
Or is this normal and I just need to get used to it?
I look forward to your responses.

I have a mini system that I use sometimes as computer speakers and one speaker is under the desk and gives lots of bass. Heard vibrations weren't good for a computer. Is this true?

A:Speaker vibrations bad for PC?

Anecdotal evidence, but I had a desktop PC and later a Mac Mini pretty close to a 650W 12" sub and I'd have the computer on and that sub rocking the world lots of times and never had a problem.

You are right, it would seem that something like that wouldn't be good, but I think for components, things fit really tight, so vibrations wouldn't really do anything there. My concern has always been mechanical hard drives, but like I said, I've never had a prob.

Hi so today i finally got my computer built, everything is nice and cool running, its purely awesome right now, its also very quiet. well kinda, the fans are silent, my psu isnt hearable even if i put my ear next to it, i got 2 140MM fractal fans running at 7V (Cant hear them at all) and my cpu cooler with a 140mm noctua is even more silent, but i get a very very weird noise, its not constant either, it makes the fairly loud (atleast annoying) sound for a couple of secs then it slowly fades of and the computer becouse silent, the silence remains for about one sec and then the noise slowely fades in, this keeps happening again and again non stop, when i take of the side panel the noise gets less intense, then i apply pressure on my old harddrive on 500gb (well old and old, its about 3.5years or so..) in a very special way the annoying sound stops,
Why is this? can i do something about it? i will try putting 4 more rubber rings in the harddrive cage and screw the screw less tight and see what happends, but if you have any idea please let me know

I recently got a new Dell XPS 15 9550. Every time I change the volume to more than 40% chassis including keyboard vibrates. It's quite loud and disturbing and shouldn't be present in such a "quality" product.
Vibration comes mostly from the left side. The keys are vibrating and probably some stuff inside the computer too, so if I put my hands over the keyboard firmly, the vibration is reduced but still too loud.
Here's the sound recording to better understand the issue: http://vocaroo.com/i/s0adp7LVjRjC
Anyway, I'm surely returning this one, but as I'm reading on forums a lot of people have this issue. So I need to know if this is normal for all the XPS 15 9550 notebooks? So if I get mine replaced instead of refunded, I won't get one with same issue.

I just bought Lenovo IP510IKB earlier this week, and I really like it, but I think something is wrong with the speakers, when I play music or any kind of audio there is some kind of distortion or vibration at certain frequencies, I don't know how to describe it, it's like there is something vibrating inside the laptop. I tried installing lenovo Harman drivers but the problem is still there, I also tried Windows generic drivers and other softwares like FxSound, but nothing helped, something that I also tried is muting the left speaker and the right speaker, at first I thought muting the left speaker fixed the problem but after a while I noticed the same distortion but not as much. I tried living with this annoying problem as it's not always there, but it really appear when listening to piano, but I can't live with it anymore it's driving me crazy and I can't find any related topics about this problem in the IP510IKB. I live in Egypt and I bought this laptop from souq.com (something like amazon.com) about a week ago, and I don't think I will be able to return it, is it even something that the warranty covers?

Hi guys, back after a few months away from this great site/forum.

I have a question regarding the CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard I was searching all over the web but can't seem to find out if this motherboard will support the new AMD 64 X2(dual core) 939 CPU? It says it supports the AMD 64 & 64 FX CPUs, but what about AMD 64 X2(dual core) 939 CPU?

If anyone here can help me out, I'd be grateful. Thanks.

A:CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard

Most nForce4 based motherboards support such CPUs but not all of them do so out-of-the-box. Make sure to have a motherboard from the latest production batch. If not, it might be handy to have a single-core to flash the BIOS in case it doesn't want to power up with the dual-core one.

Can I put an Ultra ATA hard drive in a laptop that used a SATA hard drive. The reason I want to do this is because a friend's laptop won't boot , not even in safe mode,( imo the hard drive is nackered) and of course there was no backup done. The files are needed. Now of course you'll say why not use Acronis to transfer the files to an external HDD but the problem there is that none of my friends laptops USB ports are working( haven't checked this but I'm assured it is true), so there is now way to connect an ex. HDD to it. What I'm thinkin of doin is putting the HDD into an old laptop of mine and using Acronis to transfer the files to CD or an external hdd.

What ye think? I'm inexperieced with laptops so please be gentle if this is a stupid post.

A:Can I put an Ultra ATA drive in a laptop

It is possible that you might be able to connect an ATA HDD to the buss where the CD/ DVD drive is connected. Whether that is SATA or PATA is anybody's guess.

Although, if the Laptop's HDD is broken, I'm not exactly sure what you think you're going to accomplish by doing so. If it's dead, it's dead, and that would require the drive to be dealt with data recovery methods. Very expensive.

Plan "B" involves running a cable to a desktop from the laptop, and offloading the data that way.

However, dead is dead, be forewarned

My hard drive recently went on me, so I ordered a new one. I guess I did it kind of hastily, since upon its arrival today, I came to find out that it is an SATA hard drive, while my laptop only furnishes an Ultra-ATA (44 pin) connection. DOH! My question is: does anyone know if an adaptor exists which would allow me to use this new hard drive on my laptop? And if so, any ideas where I might be able to get it? I did find that such adaptors exist for desktop computers, but haven't been able to find anything for the laptop. I've also found the universal USB adaptors, but that won't help either due to the fact that this will be my primary/only drive, and needs to be bootable. Any help here would be appreciated, I'm really trying to avoid returning this thing.

Thanks in Advance!

Hello everyone. I was hoping you all may know of an excellent laptop that can handle or
run The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PC game on Ultra settings smoothly?

From a few hours of searching, I have come across a few laptop brands and models
backed up by actual videos showing that it can handle the game with High or Ultra settings.
I am going to put all that I found in a list below and would like to know which one you
think would be the best one out of the bunch. I know prices will vary and some of these
are no longer in stock, but I may still be able to find them elsewhere, so I will still include those too.

If you all have any suggestions on a laptop outside of this list, do let me know.
I was hoping the price range could be below $1,000. I will try to include links to
each one so that you can compare the specs faster instead of having to search each one up.

They say on most of these videos that the recording program they use to record their game play causes the skips and makes the FPS drop by 10 or so.

A:Laptop that can run Skyrim on Ultra Graphics

You can find laptops for gaming. And as you noted, you will pay more for a laptop over a desktop, sometimes as much as twice the price. And while it's nice to have a mobile computer, it's only mobile in the sense that it's easy to pick up and move about. Run time on battery power is very short when you are stressing the hardware and gaming machines are more likely to experience heat related issues. Just a few things to stress to your friend before spending the money and learning the hard way.

I just got a flip video camera Ultra and shot a few videos. When I plugged the USB cable into my Toshiba laptop (I use windows vista if that matters) and double clicked on the icon in "My computer", it said I had to format the disc. Ive had this happen before with other things, I don't remember what they were though unfortunately. So I clicked "format" and when I did a box popped up alerting me that by formatting the disc, it would erase everything on it.

I cant afford to loose the videos I have on my flip cam. Is there some way to get the videos to upload onto my laptop without formatting the camera or as my computer calls is, the disc? When i read the info that came with the flip video camera, it said that some software was supposed to open and install when I plugged the USB into my laptop, but nothing popped up. I had to open up "my computer" and find the camera icon.

Also just to clarify, this is a Flip Ultra, not an HD.

My company has issue me a Lenovo T470s and an Ultra Dock to replace my existing equipment. I have two external monitors connected to the docking station with display port cables. The problem that I am experiencing is that if the laptop is docked and the cover is open, I get video on the laptop display and one external monitor. The other external monitor gets no signal and goes to sleep. If I close the laptop cover, I get video on both external monitors. A co-worker told me that this was working as designed and that the solution for getting video on all three monitors was to connect one external monitor to one of the display ports and the other to the DVI port. (He hadn't tested this configuration and is using two display ports with the laptop cover closed.) I tried my coworker's suggestion and got the same result but prior to switching to DVI, I downloaded and installed the latest(?) driver for the HD Graphics 620 adapter from this website (lenovo.com) and that seemed to solve the problem (when using two display ports) but after shutting the laptop down, I had the same issue the next day. What I want, is to have the laptop cover open and still be able to use two external monitors and get optimal resolution on all three monitors. What's the best configuration for achieving this? (Don't guess, like my co-worker. Give me something you've tested and that you can confirm that it works.)

On the path report of a sensitive user it should Show the Non-Sensitive en route users, but on my report it Always Show way more accounts, that are sensitive (with the green s). It also doesn't disappear after some time and really makes the report not really
useful, because I have to go through all the senstive users to spot the non-sensitive ones. It is the same on the report export
Is there any way to fix this issue?

A:on-board video card for "ultra" brand laptop

is there a model or serial number somewhere on the unit? be sure to carefully check all surfaces of the unit, including any areas that are accessed via removable panels. you may even be able to find the unit's FCC id, in which case you can get further information from the FCC website (they have a nice database that lists any device based on its FCC id).

what do you want to use this laptop for? usage possibilities depend largely on the RAM and video card, which are not strong selling points for most laptops.

I have recently purchased my Dell L501X via e-bay and am unsure if it has the following fetaures:
1. My backlit does not work
2. My webcam does not work
3. My (mobile) simcard slot does not recognise my simcard
4. No Bluetooth on this PC

I am not sure that it was ''built'' with these features....how does one check these features?

Only US International keyboards have backlit feature. If your computer is a US model you would press the F6.

The Dell™ XPS™ L501X system comes with an integrated, high-speed USB 2.0-compliant H.264 personal camera that comes with a 1/4-inch 2MP CMOS image sensor. The sensor has an active imaging pixel array of 1600x1200, which will be able to capture images resolution up to 2M and record HD video up to 1280x720 resolution. This camera is designed for high definition messaging and video conference applications with 1.2Mbps bandwidth requirement and video sharing.
H.264, also known as MPEG-4 AVC (Advanced Video Coding), is a video compression standard that offers significantly greater compression than its predecessors (H.263 and H.261). The standard offers up to twice the compression of the current MPEG-4 ASP (Advanced Simple Profile), in addition to improvements in perceptual quality. The H.264 standard can provide DVD-quality video at under 1 Mbps, and is optional for full-motion video over wireless, satellite, and ADSL Internet connections.
The camera is located at the top of the LCD and is fixed, which means the camera itself does not move. However, the Dell™ Webcam Central software it uses provides limited panning abilities.

Gigabyte nf4 Ultra or DFI nf4 Ultra of MSI NEO4 PLatinum?

I will be running a system:

AMD 64 3200+ or 3500+
2 x 1Gb Corsair Value ram
2 x 250Gb Seagate NCQ
LEadtek 6600GT Extreme
Tagan 480W

Now my question is, which board is faster, more stable, has better equipment ... ?

I will NOT overlock my system, so in the first place I need a motherboard that is stable and doesn't couse too much problems ...

Which of these two do you reccomend?

A:Gigabyte nf4 Ultra or DFI nf4 Ultra

I'm pretty much building the same PC you are. I still need to decide on the videocard, either the 6600Gt or x700pro.

For the motherboard, I've decided to go with DFI. I haven't seen reviews comparing both, but they seem pretty much to deliver the same performances. I like the design of the DFI better, but the main thing that made me choose the DFI was the number of PCI-e slots. The gigabyte model has only 2 PCI-e 1x slots and 1 16x slot, DFI offers 1 1x slot, 1 4x slot and 2 16x slots. So I should be able to use PCI-e parts more easily in the next few years.

Feature wise, gigabyte offers 8 SATA ports(4 on 3.0Gb/s) while DFI has 4 on 3.0Gb/s only. Both seem to offer 10 USB ports and 2 lan connector.

There's not much difference specs wise, it pretty much comes down to who you trust more and price wise.
