Solved: Unable to download W10 on main computer

Q: Solved: Unable to download W10 on main computer

On my secondary computer, when I first got it, already had the Get Windows 10 app on the taskbar. I updated to 10 on that computer and I am really liking it, so much in fact that I want it on my main computer. But apparently, the last time I updated the thing was in 2013 (oops). I installed all the updates, but the Get Windows 10 app is not showing up, and none of the guides online of how to get it are working for me. Is it still possible for me to upgrade? This computer is more powerful than the second computer, so it really should have no problems. Here are the specs:

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi, I have been through all the threads and I cannot seem to find one that is similar to mine. I had a network that was working fine, and now suddenly my main computer has disappeared from the network. It just suddenly happened when I tried to print to the main printer on the network.
I can access the internet on the router and print to my main colour printer that is connected to my computer but when I click "View workgroup computers" I get the following message "Mshome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrater of this service to find out if you have permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available"
I also cannot print to Acrobat Distiller.
I recently changed from McAfee to Kapersky because McAfee was not able to update and I also ran RegCure. Could either of these things have caused my network to disappear? I also removed Google Desktop Search and then installed it again a week or so later. Sorry if these are dunb questions but I am a real newbie to the way computers work and only know my way around digital image editing!

A:Solved: Why has my main computer disappeared from the network?

Hi Everyone, Is my face red! My son suggested that I check if both my Firewalls were turned on, and sure enough - they were. When I turned off the Kapersky one, My Network places magically returned. I hope this helps other newbies like myself.

Hi everyone

Thank you in advance.

A:Solved: Accessing main computer from Laptop

What version of Windows is on each PC?

How does your work laptop connect to the internet? (if its via a local network, which then connects to the inetrnet via a router there will be firewall issues)

How does your home PC connect to the internet?

Does "your work" actually permit a remote connection (and how do they manage the implied security issues if they do?)

same problem as my other thread. I think my dad must've copied files from that desktop to this laptop. he uses the desktop more so I chose to fix this after I got his working again.

symptoms: can't download any "large" [as in, > 500 kb] files. it just stalls out. running symantec corporate edition. haven't tried combofix yet. can't run any online virus scans because they require me to download definitions, which ALWAYS time out. can't system restore either. running win xp home sp2.

I ran this log with DSS, and cannot download HJT. I might try to import it from my other machine. Here's my DSS log:

Hi there,

I have 2 computers (+ a laptop sometimes). Both computers are ethernet hard wired to a belkin wireless router & the laptop uses 'wireless' connection.

Both computers often remain on for hours; the main one (with the router installed on it) will very often fail to connect to the internet via explorer, O/E or even any updater (avg etc.) after being on for several hours. A reboot cures the problem.

However, the other computer never loses its connection. (Nor does the laptop). All run the XP o.s.

All suggestions for a cure gratefully accepted please.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Ok, we get internet through a wireless tower that beams it to an antenna on top of the house and it eventually ends up as one ethernet cord in the basement. That may or may not be irrelevant. Anyway, I plug that cord into a router, LINKSYS BEFSR41 (it's a couple years old but it has always worked fine), and set up a LAN with the main computer being an HP pavilion a1133w w/ win XP SP 2 media center. There isn't another computer connected all the time, but I use various other machines on the network off and on (PS3, macbook, other people's computers that I'm working on for whatever reason). Recently, we've had several severe storms and flooding and whatnot, and last night, the internet suddenly quit working. I assumed it was the ISP until this morning when I called them and they said the problem was definitely on my end. My first thought was router, so I bypassed it and plugged my macbook directly into the ethernet cord from the antenna. It worked, and I thought I'd pick up a new one when the flooding subsided and I could get into town and then everything would work fine. I really need the internet on the main computer, however, so I did the same for it, plugging it directly into the incoming internet. The pavilion continued to say that the LAN was unplugged, however. I've gone through every setting and troubleshooting I can think of, but nothing I've done will make the internet work on the pavilion. ipconfig/all says media state...discon... Read more

I'm still a fairly new member so I can't give you any technical help, but i have found that the site you download from quite often makes a difference.  You might add that information for the moderator who will help you as well as information about your computer, type, OS, etc.  Good luck.  I've had great luck with AVG.

I was looking at the Pravda website, for an interesting perspective on how the Russian News looks at us...They don't think, literally, much of us here in the USA.

On my third click onto a photo gallery suddenly the computer desktop background picture changed to what looked like a window stating I may have a virus and I should click to continue. Well, I'm computer savy enough to see it was not a true window, nor could I proceed. Though, it threw up a small window that had a countdown timer that stated the DCOM would not operate and would restart the computer in XX seconds. Yep it did restart.

All of my programs work fine, email, quickbooks, photoshop etc. Though upon bringing up Internet Explorer the Google homepage usually takes to or three refreshes to get the Google searchbar in the center. Then when I type in what I'm looking for, for instance CNET.com. The search results will come up. Then clicking on the CNET.com link, a new window pops up and redirects me to something like www.go.google.net(com)*.* or a paid search site etc. Any number of things.

I've tried to download further updates to Symantec AV but it will not allow me. I've tried to get Registry Cleaners, once saved to the desktop, I click to install it and the computer tells me C:/program files/WIN32 blah blah blah. Not a win32 application.

Now this is something that has occurred before today for about the last 6 months. Whenever I download a .jpg of one of the pix of things... Read more

I have two computers running Windows XP SP2 [one is Home edition, this one is Media Center Edition]. Anyways, somehow my father has gotten the same virus/malware onto both computers. I can't download any files from anywhere [my uninfected vista PC was able to download everything I tested], and I can't run any online virus scans because they require downloading components. Ironically, both computers have Symantec Antivirus 9 Corporate [I got it free from school]. Both of them won't update. I had to do a manual virus def update and still came up with nothing. I tried spybot too, and it found some stuff but
the problem is still there.

My friend advised me to try ComboFix on this PC, but with no luck. In fact, System Restore is broken too. It says 'System Restore could not restore to your selected date," blah blah blah. Because Combofix would NEVER complete, my system clock also says the time in 24h format instead of 12h format and won't change in the control panel.

I've had a series of problems which seem to have started with the sudden inability to open Incredimail. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, tried to update and contacted them. Still no luck. In the process of following directions from Dell, it was suggested that I reinstall my operating system, which I did, but only encountered more problems, including the inabiltiy to access the internet. Eventually, I called a repair service and paid $300 for them to run the Spybot program which I had already run and tell me that I had to wipe my hard disk clean and start over. Since I did not believe that the problem was this severe, I followed some directions I found in a repair guide and ended up uninstalling Internet explorer 6. (I'm still using windows 98 on this computer). I regained access to the internet through comcast (still no connection to Incredimail)...but it seems that I am operating in explorer 5.0. Trouble is that I cannot download 6.0, or anything else, for that matter. Downloads stall about halfway through. I"ve tried enabling activeX, but no help. Any suggestions?

I am using XP Pro SP3 and Firefox 23.0.1. I have struggled with Java Script for a very long time. Finally I was satisfied to block it. Recently, I find that I need to download a software program that requires Java Script. My efforts to fix the Java Script on my machine got me nowhere. I could not uninstall it because something was corrupt. I finally just deleted it as best I could. I tried to download a fresh copy. Unfortunately, I have only a dial-up Internet connection. My Anti-Virus software (ESET) will not permit a Java Script download. I turned ESET off and proceeded with the download. I let the machine run all night. In the morning I had a corrupt version of Java Script downloaded. I need the software that requires Java Script for a medical purpose. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I assume you mean Java. Java and Javascript are two different programming languages. Javascript just needs to be enabled in your browser whereas Java does have to be downloaded and installed.

Let's see what you have installed on this computer please.

Please download DDS by sUBs to your desktop from the following location:

Double-click the dds.scr file to run the program.

It will automatically run in silent mode and then you will see the following note:

"Two logs shall be created on your Desktop".

The logs will be named dds.txt and attach.txt.

Wait until the logs appear and then copy and paste their contents in your post.

I just had my hard drive reformatted from the ground up, and reinstalled Mozilla FireFox and Internet Explorer. For some reason I cannot download Flash Player. It starts, goes for about 4 seconds and then stops.

So I'm not sure if it's both browser problems or if it's a windows XP problem.

I'd appreciate your help.

Hi Liz,

Did you try to install from here?

It's more likely to be a browser problem than XP. If you can't install it in Firefox, try to install it through IE because they use the same version of Flash.

Just purchased a Canon Elph 320HS and am delighted with it! BUT when I plug in camera to my computer and turn it on some program (I suspect it is Windows XP) starts downloading the pictures but screws up some of the .mov video files - some are downloaded OK but others just show the file name but have zero bytes. I cannot determine what program detects the camera and starts downloading before I can cancel it. It's a program that I need to stop (or at least have control of) before turning the camera on. If the Canon program ImageBrowser EX and Utilities CameraWindow DX (part of ImageBrowser EX) are running when I turn the camera on, I get a window entitled "Synchronize Persons" telling me that "The camera cannot be connected because imageBrowser EX is running. Exit ImageBrowser EX and click [retry]". I called Canon (twice) and they cannot advise me as they are not aware of what the OS might be doing – they suggested I call Microsoft!!! I'm sure this is not the first time you've heard that XP cannot download .mov files - so please give me some guidance here. Thanks in advance...

Previously when I downloaded files, the yellow bar would appear at the bottom the of the page above he task bar asking to open, save, or save as. That no longer comes up. Instead a square box comes up at the top of the page with Open (file won't be saved automatically), save or save as. When I click on either of these, nothing happens. I uninstalled AVG 2014 but it changed nothing. I'm lost. Any help appreciated.

have been having a long running problem with not being able to connect to Microsoft downloads, and I cannot update my computer. It been going on for about 6 months now, and I have tried many many trouble shooting steps, and cannot resolve the problem. I think there many be a virus or trojan that my avast cannot get rid of. I have some problems with redirecting on firefox, this problem used to be worse, but has gotten better since I got avast. But nothing I have tried has fixed my inability to update or connect to microsoft downloads.

Hi. I'm having problems booting up from my main hard drive.

A few hours ago, I had an error that said "Invalid Partition Table." I used recovery console and fixmbs (I think is the command) to no avail. I also did fixboot which did nothing visible. Originally I had been running my harddrive on a PCI to SATA converter, but when I opened up my computer to my surprise I discovered I had SATA ports on the motherboard (swear I didn't see this the first time). Anyways, I plugged my SATA into the port, reset CMOS, and now I can log onto my slave hdd - but not my master (main) hdd.

As I said, I can log onto my slave hdd, which is an IDE hdd. When I try to boot from my main hdd (Seagate 250 gig SATA harddrive, "WDC-WD2500KS-00MJB0"), I get to the Windows logo screen with the bar scrolling at the bottom, but then after a few seconds a blue screen pops up with text, and a fraction of a second later my computer reboots. The harddrive I'm currently using is XP Pro SP 2, and the SATA hdd also uses XP Pro SP 2.

What can I do to fix this?

Quick summary
-I can boot from my slave IDE hdd, but not from my SATA (which is plugged into the motherboard directly)
-When I try to boot from my SATA, it goes to the main Windows loading screen before I get the strange BSOD
-I can access files in my SATA now from my IDE - I went ahead and copied important files over to my IDE harddrive, but there are much larger files that I cannot copy over to the IDE.
-My SATA HDD is ... Read more

I have Webroot Spy Sweeper (the paid version) installed on my PC. And today, I was told that I should download a new version and I did. I was subsequently asked to download the updates and I tried to but when Webroot tries to communicate with my PC, the program freezes and the updates cannot be downloaded. I also have Norton anti-virus and I tried to disable it to see if that was the reason I could not download the updates, but nothing changed. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem or how to get in touch with the Webroot Company?

Whenever I attempt to retrieve Ad-Aware updates I get the following message:

No connection to download server. Check your Internet connection.

Is anyone else having this problem? I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who might be able to help me. (By the way, my Net connection is fine.) Could either Comodo firewall or Avast AV be interfering with the download process? They are both new on my system since I dropped ZoneAlarm Security Suite a few days ago.

I have used Ad-Aware for years with not problems -- until now.

Thank you very much.

I'm at a bit of a loss here. I've tried to run gmer several times, each with a different result. Last night it locked up the system, as it has every time I've run it, but it had generated what seemed to be pages of text info and had stopped on sector 63 with a "possible root kit activity" message. When I scanned up I found another root kit message. Each time it's taken 2 to 3 hours to run/or lock up as the case may be. Tonight it ran for three hours and ended up with nothing, so I haven't attached a blank report for gmer. I'm awaiting further instructions on this with the other logs attached as requested.

My OS is Win 7 Home edition.
Window Live Mail (WLM) problems caused me to attempt the repair option for Windows Essentials (WE) in Control Panel. That was unsuccessful as were subsequent uninstalls and reinstalls of WE. Finally I uninstalled WE using the Revo Uninstaller program.
The reinstall is now the problem as I now get the message there is already a more recent version of the program on the pc that I must uninstall before installing the one I downloaded. Nowhere in my pc can I find the WLM I am suppose to have.
I did locate an old shortcut icon but when I click on that, I get the error message the WLDCore.dll is missing and WLM cannot function without it.
I have checked a couple of items on the internet  promoting purchase of their program to reinstall WLDCore.dll but I do not know if they are trustworthy or can actually do what they claim.
Any help or advice you can give me  to get my email service through WLM up and running again would be gratefully appreciated. TYIA.

Firstly try to restart your computer from Windows. If you still have the same problem, then try to download a new web browser and Malware Bytes from another computer. If you have any suspicion that you computer has a (e.g. you have visited a insecure website) virus, then scan the whole computer firstly with Malware Bytes and secondly with Windows Defender (built in to Windows).

You can try and uninstall the two web browsers (Chrome and IE) and try to install a web browser of your choice. Please keep me updated if you have any further questions.
