Faulty sound on AVI files

Q: Faulty sound on AVI files

Please can someone help me solve a problem I am having with the audio of avi files.

I have tried two separate avi files and have played them with Windows Media Player, Real Player and Quicktime.
The audio has a fault on both files when played on all three media software, the background music plays fine but the commentary with the files sounds all jumbled up ... kind of a squeaky sound.
I don't know why this is happening, the video plays fine too ... it's just the commentary which is faulty.

I would appreciate any advice on this.

Preferred Solution: Faulty sound on AVI files

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Faulty sound on AVI files

You could give a download link of a sample so we could hear if the audio is messed up on our computers. I don't know much but the only thing I could suggest would have something to do with your video software-codecs. Are you sure it's not supposed to be like that? Have you tried opening the file in a video-editing software and listening it there? Have you recorded the commentary yourself? Maybe you should try to re-render the file with different settings? If you recorded the commentary what file-type is it? Are you sure it's compatible to be edited together with the background music? There's a lot things that could be the problem.

Hi, i have been using a creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1 for 10 months and decided to upgrade it as I wanted a more high performance one for my guitar equipment which I plug into my desktop. I have purchased a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Music card (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/112512) and am trying to install it. When I plug the card into my desktop the computer lights up but there is no hardrive access and the monitor doesn't turn on. If i put my old card back in it works fine again. I have uninstalled the drivers etc from my old one. It seems odd that just plugging in a soundcard prevents startup. Could someone tell me wether the sound card is either faulty or just not compatible with my system. somehow.
My computer meets all the system requirments for it, 2.4ghz C2D, 4GB ram, XP MCE, Asus P5B deluxe MB.

I would like to know if its faulty so i can return to ebuyer without having to pay to get it checked by them and find it is working correctly. They already stupidly sent the wrong card originally (sent one i already had the fools) so had to return (kinda) once already.

Thanks in advance,

The speakers on my transformer book don't work. When I go to the Control Panel->Sound there's nothing coming through to the speakers. The graph to the right of the listing for the speakers doesn't move, so the speakers aren't getting anything from the web browsers or media players.

When I plug speakers into the jack port the control panel doesn't recognise that anything is plugged into the port.

I've checked the device drivers and my system is saying that it has the most current drivers.

I uninstalled all the sound devices from the device manager then checked for hardware changes and it looked like the device manager reinstalled all the sound devices and the drivers and nothing has changed.

I just can't get any sound out of my laptop.

Short of trying to refresh the os, is there something I can do to fix this?

I have an HP Elitebook 8560p that isn't producing any sound. When I go into volume control I can see that there is sound being output, but I hear nothing.

Currently I am running Windows 7 Pro x64, and have tried multiple sound drivers. I have now IDT Audio Codec driver installed on the machine.

I've already tried replacing the speaker assembly, but to no avail. When booted into another OS (i.e Ubuntu) I experience the same problem.

Plugging in external speakers also doesn't work.

So, needless to say, I'm at a loss. Help!

I have been saving my files onto a sandisk cruzer mini 128MB flash drive. Everthing was going ok till yday when I plugged in my cruzer mini and I saw the littl eicon on my computer and the green light went on too but i was not able to access my files. When I tried it kept asking me to insert the desk Then I tried one of the freeware to recover files from it and that returned zero files. Can somebody tell me how I can retrieve files from it, if at all possible. Unfortunately I dont have back up too.

A:retrieve files from faulty cruzer mini-please help

I have a Cruzer Micro that I accidently wiped out (and fixed) so maybe I can help a little bit. First of all, you have to be able to access the drive before you can recover any files. If your computer is telling you to insert the disk, that ususally means that it does not think the drive is there. Did the recovery program that you tried detect the drive? Also, which operating system are you using?

Hi guys, today a customer brought back an Asus netbook.
The problem was on boot up, windows always went to system repair (I think thats what its called, it was mandatory to run) and stays on that page.

After inspecting the netbook, there was quite a big crack on the bottom of the laptop, so obviously has been dropped. Anyway I said I would give it a go in fixing, but this is what has happened so far...

1. I ran system restore to see if that helps, after getting to 100%, the netbook restarted, but would always come up bootmgr is missing.

2. I ran system restore once more, and this time, after it got to 100%, it restarted, and this time came up with the error boot bcd error 0xc00000e9 (It says to run a repair using a disc)

3. I ran the windows 7 starter disc, and used system repair, and it came up saying saying everything was successful.

4. I decided to reformat using the disc, the hard drive appears and everything is normal, I format the hard drive and then continue to reinstall. The installation is stuck on 0% the whole time, and I know the disc works fine. I used a second disc to make sure, but again, it sticks on 0%.

I am sure the damage on the back has done something to brake the laptop, I am just not sure what. When I go to format the hard drive, it appears in the list, so its present and seems to be working. At 0% the disc just isn't even spinning.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

This is what happens: After a few hours of operation, svchost.exe crashes

Doesn't matter what I'm doing; Gaming, surfing, you name it.
Faulting module svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.5512, faulting module unknown, version, faulty address 0x00000000.

A few seconds will pass as I accept, and my theme will change from the start blue one to the old grey one in a few seconds and then reset to the standard XP one.

Here's what I know so far: When this happens crashes, it takes Windows Audio and a few other services with it, which I have to start again using Run/services.msc. I know which instance contains the Windows Audio service, so the problem is most likely with one of the services hosted within that particular instance of svchost.

I'm a bit lost, though. I don't know what to do because it doesn't give me an address, it doesn't tell me which service is messing up, so I need some help. I have the windows error log and a decent recollection of what has happened since that error started: I got a new X-fi sound card, a Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion. The errors coincide with me installing that card, but I can't see how that would mess up like this, though.

I don't know if I'm totally off the mark here, but is it fair to assume that it is only ONE instance of svchost crashing? The screenshot above shows the svchost hosting the services that go down after the crash. I have a saved version of th... Read more

Nvidia 8500GT card has been overclocked for the last year:

Original: 450, 900, 400
Stable OC: 690, 1380, 547

Before you panic, it's been stable and temps have been fine (<70). My motherboard is a Asus P5N-E SLI board. The computer is dual boot to Vista (for general use) and XP x64 (for games). ONLY XP IS OVERCLOCKED. Vista is not overclocked at all. Only the GPU is overclocked in the computer.

Now, the problems started when I moved the computer. All the games on x64 crashed unless I underclocked the machine, except UT (ancient game) which garbled the graphics (weapon textures on walls etc). I found out it was because somehow the card wasn't plugged in properly - so I pushed it back and I was able to play again.

Since then, sometimes the card is alright and other times it isn't. The other day I was playing fallout (graphics intensive game) for around 3 hours without any problems. But right now, I boot to vista and within a minute it crashes. Other times I was programming (not even using graphics) and the mouse suddenly has a flickering box around it - then the computer crashes.

When it crashes, the screen goes weird colours (like its rendered the screen as 4 bit colours rather than 32 bit) and shortly after I get a blue screen with it complaining about a graphics DLL.

At first, giving the card a wiggle in the PCI-E slot fixed... Read more

I believe the initial crash was caused by overheating. Based on the fact that I have gotten it to work for a short amount of time, more on that later. Booting up with the drivers for my graphics card enabled causes BSOD to appear but when it is disabled everything is fine. I can boot into safe mode, and I have already reinstalled windows. My motherboard is Asus B85M-e and my graphics card is Nvidia EV3A GTX 590.
How I got it to work for a short amount of time : I reinstalled windows and then installed my integrated Ethernet driver. After that was out of the way I installed and used driver booster to install the rest of my drivers. I then noticed there was a missing driver that the program could not install that was named Simple PCI Controller. So I thought I should install that driver using my motherboard's driver installation disk. It then worked up until I decided to change the settings in Nvidia Control panel.
I also do not know how faulty graphics cards behave so it might be my graphics card. The game I was playing when this started was Life is Strange if that is needed.

I recently bought a new, 3rd party power cord for my Toshiba Satellite L300 from eBay.
Recently I've noticed that my battery stops charging earlier and earlier. At first it stopped at 87%, then 83%, then 80% all in one week. I've had the computer for about a year which seems a bit early for it to start degrading so fast, so could it be the power cord?

The Toshiba cord says Model: PA-1750-29, Input: 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 1.5A, Output: 19V[solid line above a dotted line]3.95A
The 3rd party cord says Model: PA-34671ACA, Input: 100-240V~1.5A 50/60Hz, Output: 19V[solid over dotted]3.95A

If the new cord is harmful to my battery, I can just solder its input plug onto the Toshiba charger (that's the only bit that was broken) but I'd rather not risk breaking two power cords if I don't need to.

Hi there,

as of a stupid faulty LAN-driver by Intel/Sony, I got horrible problems with BSOD's and graphics failures and due to my stupid unsystematic approach it took me a while to fix it. (Simply: Installing newest ethernet drivers after I found out they were responsible.)

As of now, my system (Win 7 Pro x64) is a total wreck, can't open either my explorer or my substitute program (Directory Opus), opening the context menu crashes the explorer.exe and often I just can't (left-)click on something. Problems uninstalling and installing stuff also.

Now, how do I again start & proceed with the Windows repair without losing any data or having to reformat?
(The awful European Sony support was no help at any time...)

If you're curious to further investigate into my issue I attach you the log file that "sfc /scannow" (download here (10,1 MB)) brought as well as the log file of my failed installation try of avast virusscan. (No I don't have a virus/malware, checked for that at least!) Funny enough in safe mode everything works, this is also where I installed avast then.

Should I run any other scans in your opinion? I think I'd just should repair it.

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards

PS: I hope/assume you don't consider this issue for the BSOD forum, as I already fixed it. But of course you're free to move it!

I was using the install and change tool and there was a program "RON tool cpmsky" with no size or publisher info. A:Pop Ups and Sound Files

I am frequently getting pop ups that have the title "RON ads by cpmsky" even when I don't have any browser windows open. I also have had sound files that are of someone talking about buy.com or something. There's a program in the uninstall/remove windows tool with the title RON tool cpmsky with no publisher or size information. When I try to uninstall it, it asks if I'm sure and warns me my computer may not run the same as before. I chose yes, and it wants me to type in a series of 7 letters and numbers displayed above the text box as an uninstall validation. I do and it closes the box but nothing happens. If I type it wrong, it doesn't close the box and says the code is invalid.

Also, when I log in, two "iexplore" processes start without any internet explorer windows opening.

Ok, I went away for the weekend and while I was gone, there was a thunderstorm and the power went on and off a few times (not sure if this is related or not).

Well, I returned after the weekend away from my computer, I turn my computer on and it starts to chug along (its rather old), it gets to the windows xp loading screen and then just turns black. I leave it on this black screen for an hour or so and nothing happens. I try a few more times and the same thing happens.

I'm suprised, so I go into safe mode and as safemode is loading (as it shows the system files loading or whatever), one file called sptd.sys refuses to load. So, I press esc to cancel it's loading and when I finally get to my desktop in safemode, I find the file called sptd.sys (it's located at windows/system32/drivers/sptd.sys) and move it into a different folder on my desktop. I restart my computer and it loads perfectly.

Next, I try to play my iTunes and it says there is a problem with my audio. I look at my system tray and there is no little speaker to adjust my volume. I try everything I can think of, but my sound wont work. I'm using a baster! live sound card, and it's as if it isn't being detected.

Greetings Maxwell McLeod, Welcome to TSF!

Perhaps the quickest and simplest solution to your dilemma would be to firstly try a System Restore back to a date before you went away.

To do this...

Go Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

Once in the System Restore Panel, select Restore my computer to an earlier time > Next > select one of the bold dates on the left hand side > Next > OK.
The computer will automatically reboot...upon reboot, you will have a completely blank Desktop for about 2 minutes; then, the System Restore feature will confirm the change, click OK and all should be fine.
One point to remember; you will have to update your Anit Virus definitions/database again.
Please Note: Doing a System Restore using this method will not delete any of your personal data and files.

Give it a go and report back with how you fared.

Hello... I searched the forum for 'APE'.. some amusing threads about going ape**it, some about converting APE to FLAC...

I don't want to convert my APE audio files. I want to play them directly in WMP 12 just like I could in previous versions of WMP (on XP, for example).

My WMP plays mp3 and FLACs fine. I installed something last week called Shark007 which enabled me to add APE files to the player, and indeed play them. However, it also caused WMP to crash every time an mp3 finished and the next track in the playlist was a FLAC, and vice versa. In other words, it couldn't handle switching from one type to another in the playlist and crashed. I had a hell of a game uninstalling that ... Back to before now... though.. stability.

Is there a codec or something that will enable me to drag a sound file with a .APE extension into the Play tab on the right side of WMP 12 (it doesn't even let me do that at the moment) and play the file ok ?

There was one on download.com but when I checked the last 5/6 reviews, they were terrible - had a lucky escape there. Didn't bother with it.

The only codec I currently have installed is 'Media Foundation FLAC Codec'.

It is at http://www.remixer.com/downloads.htm

edit: it is under the 'featured files' section

I don't get any sound when I open flash files on my Windows 98(1st edition) IBM system. Example: http://www.brainpop.com I see the animation, but no sound. My sound card works fine--I get sound from RealPlayer files, Quicktime files, and Windows Media files. Anybody have any ideas...short of reformatting?

I have recently bought a new computer and am now using Windows Vista Home Premium for the first time after previously using Windows XP Home. When I try to download a .wav sound file on the Internet, I receive the following on-screen message: 'Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the Codec that was used to compress the file'. I also receive 'error message C00D1199'. However, I have checked Windows Media Centre on my computer and it says that it supports .wav files.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to how I can rectify this problem?

A:{RESOLVED} No sound/Files

We need to know the model / brand of your sound card before we can start to help.

You said your WAV files are missing? You did a Start, Find, Files for *.WAV and *.MID and nothing shows up?

I've always had music I could send with my Ecards from WebShots and I can no longer see where the sound function is located. The help section says you need MIDI sound files but I have not had this problem before sending sound and I can no longer see the sound listing at all. I am running XP Pro.

Thank you for any ideas,

If I attach a device with video files and play the files on the computer, there is no sound.
Sound for other music and video files on the computer does work.
I thought initially, maybe Skypes sound settings were taking over, and needed to be changed, and I modified some of skypes audio settings but it had no effect.
I did not find the sound controls in Windows 7, that I am used to adjusting in Windows XP, so I really do not know how to fix this.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I am not familiar with surround sound cards, but have been wondering whether it is possible to play different wav files out of each of the channels of a surround sound card?

I have written a small program that allows me to 'merge' 2 mono wav files into a 'stereo' wav file, and play them at the same time - wav1 to left, wav2 to right. What I am hoping to do is extend this to at least 4 wav files, each one coming out of left front, left rear, right front, right rear. Is this possible? If so, where can I get more info on this? I havnt been able to find anything so far on the net.

Thanks for any advice

A:wav files & 5.1 surround sound

Most audio file formats are stereo only - you can't possibly put more than two channels in there. AFAIK the only free codec for surround sound is Vorbis.

Can't help you with any specific program to actually create surround Vorbis files.
