Thinkpad X1 Yoga hangs on boot: unable to type pow...

Q: Thinkpad X1 Yoga hangs on boot: unable to type pow...

Hi,I received my new ThinkPad X1 Yoga 20FQ one month ago. I'm very happy with it but for one week I'm very often unable to type the power-on password. When I turn on my X1 Yoga (3 times out of 4), the keyboard seems to be not working and I'm stuck at the padlock password prompt. I must insert a paperclip into the reset hole and restart to be able to get the keyboard working and be able to enter the password. I'm wondering if anyone else have any similar issue and if so, if there is a simple way to fix it? or if I should return the X1 Yoga? Thanks for your help,Steven

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I bought a used IBM Thinkpad T20 Thinkpad Type 2647-92U from eBay for use this semester on campus. It is in great shape and has a recent edition of Windows XP but an older version of MS Office which does not boot properly.

This computer was a part of a network and keeps trying to connect to it each time Windows loads. It came with a LinkSys Wireless-G Notebook Adapter 2.4 GHz 802.11g card.

The CD is an official copy; clean and has no scratches or nicks. The DVD/CD-ROM will boot other CD's such as music CD's and DVD films and data discs with MS Word files etc on them.

Any help would be appreciated!

Yours,

Kyklopes

That T-20 is pretty long in the tooth. I suspect your optical drive either needs cleaning, or is worn beyond repair.
Did you try the CD in another drive as a double check?

I just purchased this laptop, I like it alot.   Using the HDMI port and the mini-display port, can I have 3 displays?   The internal touch screen, and then also the moniitor on the HDMI port AND a different monitor on the mini-display port.   That would be 3 displays. I'm just getting into Microsoft Flight Simulator and it will support 3 videos and I want to have all 3 running to get the most from the application. I want to be sure that it isn't either/or on the HDMI and Mini-Display Port, but that I can use both/and. Thanks in advance. Paul

The screen of my Yoga 14 ThinkPad Type 20FY touchscreen has cracked. I have a few questions on how to replace the screen.

Serial Number: XXXXXXXX                               Mod edit:  Serial number removed per forum rules
Machine Type Model: 20FY0002US

1. Can I replace the touchscreen with a non-touch screen? It looks like touchscreens are delicate and expensive. I didn't want a touchscreen but Best Buy did not have that in their store.
2. What is the part number for the screen? I need it to purchase online. Online forums suggest opening the screen to see the part number. Is there a way to see part number using model, and machine type (posted above)? I need part number of non-touch screen, if that will work with the laptop.
3. What is the cheapest and reliable place to buy a replacement screen? I plan to replace it myself.

I would be appreciative of your help.

A:ThinkPad hangs on boot - stuck at Thinkpad screen

You might have damaged the power circuitry on the motherboard.  If that is the case, the only solution is to replace the board.  There is an array of power transistors that handles the switching back and forth between AC and battery.

I basically need to access the bios so o can either copy an error code and come back here foe help or see what the bios says and possibly fix the problem myself.

Hi, During my visit to US in January and February 2014 I purchased the X1 Carbon 2nd Gen (Type 20A7). I got back to south Brazil where I live, it worked fine until October 2014. Suddenly the X1 Carbon didn't boot anymore and the backlight keyboard keep flickering. I realized it was a known issue and several customers had the motherboard replaced or even the equipment replaced.  I planned to reach the US customer service in a future visit to the US but I could not travel to the US from that time, so I tryed to reach the Lenovo customer service in Brazil and check with them to pay for the service and parts replacement so I could have my X1 Carbon working again. I called and told the problem, they said it was possible to fix and they would send me a budget proposal in 4 work days. The customer service took about two weeks to get back to me and surprisingly the budget I received was of U$ 3,650.00 which is the cost of a new X1 Carbon in Brazil ( I paid U$ 2,180.00 in the US for the top version). I am very upset with Lenovo, I lost all the confidence I had to the brand. My only hope is that a senior executive of US Lenovo headquarter would take this matter and help me get my machine fixed or replaced, even for a reasonable value as I could not use it since October 2014.I really do not have much hope that this will help, I am sure it would be different if I have had the opoortunity to get back to the US just after the problem arose but it is so sad, I was ve... I have a Thinkpad T21 with Windows XP SP2. The issue is that when I startup the laptop, during the Windows XP loading screen (the wone right before the login screen), the system becomes unresponsive. The wireless PCI card goes on and the Caps Lock and Num Lock lights blink, then everything hangs.

I am able to get to Safe Mode, and have disabled all startup items. Also disabled as many services as possible. We did a reformat and the same issue has occurred after reinstalling some software. I did suspect that this may be a driver issue, but I checked the Device Manager and did not find any issues with any of the devices. Note I also removed the PCI card from the system.

I suspect that this may be a driver or service issue. I am not exactly sure any there are too many places to look.

Anyone have any recommendations? Thank you.

I've tried with a windows 10 and windows 8.1 install same results.  If I plug the drive into my desktop I can see all my files no problem.  I bought a new SSD and when I try to install Windows the logo comes up but after some time, maybe a minute, it drops to recovery again and says the bios is not fully ACPI compliant, error 0000225 and stops. I've tried disconnecting the bios battery for about 15 minutes and tried again with no luck, same result on new ssd and install.  I'm lost a this point, any ideas? My Yoga 14 ( Type 20FY) cannot boot anymore.  It was fine in the morning, but refused to boot afternoon after being shipped around on a luggage cart.  Now it only lights up the keyboard after power on, and then does nothing, no Lenovo logo, no beep to signal any error. I had tried the following methods to no avail, draining out onboard battery, pushing the emergency reset hole, disconnecting onboard battery and CMOS battery.  Every time it failed to boot after reconnecting it with AC power.  I also connected it with external monitor over hdmi, but nothing to show up after boot it up. The machine is configured with multi-boot to several Linux flavors and Windows 10, so I am knowledgeable to be quite sure it is not a software problem.  Please help me!

I am trying to disable UEFI Secure Boot on my Thinkpad Yoga S1 but it keeps getting re-enabled after a reboot. If I set secure boot to disabled I can boot into the non secure OSes installed on the machine imediately afterwards but if the machine is restarted the Secure Boot seting in the BIOS is re-enabled.  It's important for me to have secure boot disabled as I use OSes without secure boot.

I try to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS on the following screen :

Link to image 1

But if I re-enter the BIOS either after booting into an OS or simply re-entering the BIOS, Secure Boot is back on:

Link to image 2

I have also tried to disable "OS Optimzed Defaults" but it also returns to enabled after a restart.

Link to image 3

Some of the other BIOS settings save correctly so I can't figure out why the secure boot settings don't. The BIOS version I have is the latest (1.18).

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? It's inconvenient to manually disable secure boot each time I want to use the laptop. The two operating systems (Ubuntu and Android x86) do work reasonably well once booted.

Thanks!

Juan

I have a feeling you had opened up the back cover to fiddle around with the components (be it a change of SSD or the 3g/4g modem). the symptoms you described sounds exactly like a disconnect MB cable. you can try to open up the back cover, and around the left side, you will see a cable labelled "MB". secure it properly, and the computer should be responsive now.

Hi Everyone! I have a Thinkpad Yoga 12 and recently I am experiencing a rather serious problem with the machine. If I have a drive in it, it will simply not start the booting process and will freeze on the "press enter to interrupt..." screen. Whenever I remove the disk (SSD) the computer starts and I can access BIOS/Diagnostics/Etc. but when reinserting the SSD everything stops and the computer freezes on start. This problem is very annoying because without a proper boot I cannot update the BIOS or do anything with it at all. Did anyone else experience something similiar?I checked the SSD in a different computer and it works without a problem.

A:Thinkpad Yoga stuck on boot screen

Hanging on startup with a disk inserted would most likely indicate either a bad SSD or a bad SATA control circuit (motherboard).  If the disk is OK, that leaves only one part.

Hey there, everyone.I've got this 2 year old ThinkPad Yoga 12 that was working fine one day, and then won't boot at all the next. No screen activity, no backlight on keyboard, nothing except for a solid light on the "i" and then nothing. In the last month I purchased a Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2G and the Thuderbolt USB C dock. Since the USB C cable that comes with the dock is too short to allow the dock on the right and laptop on the left (in laptop mode), I put the notebook in tent mode and all works fine---except... Everytime I power up from hibernate it starts beeping about once a second and does not stop. I have to disconnect from the dock, flip it to laptop mode (this is where the beeping stops), return it to tent mode, and then plug the dock back in. It seems that Lenovo, like everybody else, is rushing things to market with plans to fix bugs later (maybe). Any thoughts I how to stop the beeping?  The first time it happened I closed all the apps to reboot and it still was beeping. Thanks.

Hello. I'm having a substandard issue with my Lenovo Yoga Laptop that I will try to explain in complete detail. First I'll summarize what's going on, then I'll list all  the details that could be related to this problem, no matter how small, in order of most likely related to least likely related. I'm an IT technician so I have some grasp of computer troubleshooting, just keep in mind. Alright, so the issue is that my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga (can't find exact model, label only days Yoga and its dated in 2013) will not boot into Windows 10 after I have done an upgrade from Windows 8.1 using Microsoft's media creation tool. More specifically, I was able to do the firat time setup and boot on once but after searching for Windows updates and restarting, the computer will not boot on. The most likely reason for this I believe is that the laptop doesn't recognize the SSD with Windows 10 on it. It can detect it in some ways but not others. In Lenovo diagnostics I'm not able to run a storage test, which is an option I know is usually there because I've troubleshooted these before, which leads me to believe it doesn't recognize it. However, boot menu and BIOS recognize the drive. Attempting to boot to it from boot menu gives a long black screen and then it takes me back to boot menu. Letting my computer boot up normally also gives a long black screen after the ThinkPad logo and the automatically goes to boot menu. The other diagnostics for Lenovo hardware all pass. So some...
