I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, when I drag a url from browser onto desktop or in a folder, then the icon shown for the new url-shortcut, is the chrome program icon (in my case because of chrome being my default browser). Now I would find it much better if I instead would see the favicon.ico (that little icon you see in the browser tab pf a certain website) on my Desktop / Explorer / etc. instead.

Does anyone know of an onboard switch under win7 or a program that allows this ?

Regards,
Frank

I have changed the favicon.ico graphic for one website yet the older one is still being displayed. So I tried to go to Temp Internet Files and delete the favicon.ico file manually to force the browser to download the new one but IE 9 won't let me manually delete it.

I get NO message of any sort. I just try to delete it and.... NOTHING!

The new favicon displays fine in Firefox but I still want IE9 to display it as well.

How can I delete this favicon?

Thanks for any responses.

I have been creating a website on my local machine and then viewing it in IE 7. All of the js used to work fine until randomly it no longer works. It's always given me the annoying little bar at the top that says IE blocked some scripts from running but I always used to just tell it to run them anyway and it would work. Now all of a sudden that doesn't work and infact nothing regarding js on the page works. Not even some of the simple text link effects such as bolding on click.

I have tried:
- Reinstalling IE 7
- The website in IE on other computers and it works fine
- Setting the security settings in IE to as low as possible and also just default
- Adding the tag: <!-- saved from url=(0014)about:internet --> to the page
- Other browsers on this computer and it worked fine
- Set all settings in IE back to default settings
- Googling for hours

Thanks in advance!

Recently many of the sites that I visit have the empty box with a small red X in it in place for images. At first I thought it was just the site but now it's happening on almost all sites that have a lot of images. I usually have to refresh the page three or four times before they all show up properly. It doesn't to seem to be any specific type of image I cant view. It happens with both JPEGs and GIFs.

So then I thought that it could possibly be my firewall. So I disabled it and refreshed the page again but that didn't work. So I decided to come here and get some help if possible. It is getting very frustrating.

Hi and welcome to TSF

Please go into Windows Explorer, click on C:\ > File > New Folder and call it HJK , or another name of your choice. Go to this Site and download Hijack This. Install the program into the folder you created then run it. Click Scan. Save the log file to Notepad , then copy and post it back here. Hello
I have a windows vista premimum loaded laptop with internet explorer 8 installed. Everything was working fine up to a point when i had to reset the internet explorer settings to its default.

Prior to the reset, I was able to add favorites and view the favorites in my address bar asi begin to type the letters. But after the reset, this behaviour stopped.

I have tried the autocomplete path. The address bar and the favorites check box are ticked under tools > options > content > settings. I un-checked clicked ok and checked back again, just to make sure that it gets reset in the registry. But still I cannot get the favorites to display in address bar as I type.

This happened before and I followed a registry tweak which corrected the behavoiur. Unfortunately I cannot find the link anymore and I did not add it to favorite !!. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks

A:[SOLVED] Internet Explorer Favorites not showing up !!

Ok, Looks like either no has a solution or no one has bothered to reply. Anyways, for the benefit of others who might have faced the same problem, find below the solution that I figured out.

In IE go to Tools > Internet Options > Content.
Click Settings under Auto Complete
Make sure Address Bar is ticked and so is Favorite.
But most importantly, make sure that "Use Windows Search for better results" is un-ticked.

Click OK and OK again.

Now you will be able to see favourites appearing in the address bar.

Thanks for viewing.

Hello all.
First time here and probably not the last on account of Murphy's Law.
My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (x64).
I installed IE11 with no problems.
Once completed, I rebooted but could not locate the IE desktop icon.
Inspected the Internet Explorer folder. All files seem to be there including the .exe file. After clicking on this IE11 .exe file, nothing happened.
Checked the Control Panel to ensure IE11 was in fact installed and that it was "activated." All in order.
This is a mystery as I have used previous versions of IE without any problems.
Any attempts, to resolve this glitch, will be appreciated greatly. Cheers.

Ok, this question has been asked around many corners of the Internet and these forums and I haven't found a "real" answer so I'm asking it again and hopefully seeking a final resolution to the problem.
Symptoms

When "Protected Mode" is turned On, users are unable to view some folders in the file upload dialog that they can normally view (e.g. under Documents, Pictures, etc.).When viewing the same folders in Explorer running as the same user as the Internet Explorer instance, the missing folders are viewable.Launching Internet Explorer "as an administrator" allows the user to view the missing folders (but this is not recommended due to security concerns).
Workarounds
So far, the workaround that I found was to either run some crazy tool from BleepingComputer called Unhide that resets everything on your system -- this is the sledge hammer-to-thumbtack approach.  Another one was to go into Organize > Folder and
search options > View and uncheck the hide options and select the show radio option.  The last one was to search for the folder in the file upload dialog, right-click the folder, and uncheck Hidden.
None of these, IMHO, are valid solutions to the real problem which is that something is special about this folder that is causing IE in Protected Mode to treat the file as Hidden.
Thoughts
The last "workaround" seems to indicate that the "hidden" file attribute is set for the file, but this doesn't app... Read more

I have audio ads randomly playing in the background, and Internet Explorer is sometimes open (from 1 to 3 copies) in the Task manager. By opening up the Sound Mixer, I noticed that the sound comes from Internet explorer. Sometimes, the name of the Internet Explorer program in the Task manager changes really quickly, and sometimes it stays for a long times on the same website (mostly www.quackit.com or www.pinkmoney.com). Sometimes, I can end Internet Explorer with the "End Task" button, but other times, I have to go to the process and kill it. Sometimes, an hour goes by without a single problem, but sometimes the ads are just a minute apart. Strangely enough, they're in French (my language).

My computer is also slower in general, especially Firefox.

I tried following the instructions in this post, as the problem was quite similar to mine, but to no avail.

However, one thing hasn't returned and I know it's not a major problem but I would like to get it back. Hello...this is my first post so Im not sure I titled this post correctly.

When I click start and enter favicon in my search area, some favicons show up that cannot be opened but I noticed that there was some porn attached to a couple.

I just returned from vacation and dont know who was using this as there are many people here. There is no IT person so I would like to remove these favicons completely.

I tried Disk Cleanup in System tools and CC cleaner but they are still there. They appear on the Google desktop. I dont think I have firefox as I put it in search and nothing comes back.

Any help to start working normal again...I know they are harmless but these are not good favicons.

Thanks for any ASAP help.

Q: Favicon

How can you assure that websites put their favicons on your desktop?

A:Favicon

Could you clarify your question? If you mean making a shortcut to a webpage, the icon used is the IE page icon.

Hello,
Vista is my OS.
When I open Chrome some of the favicons on the bookmarks bar look like a piece of paper with top corner folded. If I click on the paper and the website loads the paper disappears and the correct favicon is on the bookmark bar.
How do I make it so that the favicon does not look like paper and the correct favicon shows all of the time? Only a few favicons look like paper.
Do the favicons turn to paper because of clearing things like cookies and history?
I do not have this issue with Firefox.
Thanks.

A:Favicon Help

Found this solution:

Close Chrome
Open your User Data folder (User Data Directory - The Chromium Projects)
Delete the Favicons file
Run Chrome
Visit sites to force the icons to be re-downloaded

Q: Favicon

For an unknown reason, I can't get the usual favicons from certain web sites. I've tried readding the sites to my favorites but it still won't work. I only get the IE icon for those sites now. I tried a program by the name of FavOrg and it can't get back the icons either. Why?
Thanks

A:Favicon

Hi karbo,
It's possible the sites no longer have Favicons.
To see if one is available, go to the site and add favicon.ico at the end of the address and click go. For example, Yahoo would be http://yahoo.com/favicon.ico
If it's available, right click it and select "Save Picture". Save it to a directory and use the "Change icon" for the shortcut. That will make it permanent.

I've been going nuttier than I already am trying to figure out why I can not see favicons in my Internet Explorer 6.0. All I get is that boring IE icon on every page. Foxfire works fine, but not IE. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?

Please refer photos.
I am using Internet Explorer 11 from Program Files folder which supposedly launches 64 bit applications. This Internet Explorer 11 settings from Tools Options of Custom Level and Advanced tabs Security features were if selected; Internet Explorer
11 64 bit simply refuses to load websites with host of other truly funny messages like US DOD official website found 'Not Secure' or Microsoft's own msftconnect.com 'This website is not secure' etc., with other websites like default Internet Explorer 11 webpage
doesn't loads fast enough even though all options favours fast loading with Advanced security features; WHY? this ultimately stops after all settings are set to default without single modification in Custom Settings or Advance Security features.
This coupled with Microsoft Edge's unpredictable website loading with frequent Network's internet connection disconnecting to the brink of unusability; nothing; even Microsoft Edge Reset won't resolve these scenarios.
And now Microsoft Edge DEV; with all above said problems and beta version errings uses 1.5 GB of 4G ISP full speed memory to send computer information to Microsoft within half day of 12 hrs. day, rest of day goes with crawling speed of ISP setted 64 Kbps
in short without internet connection; this happening on all days Microsoft Edge DEV use; now a days I use only Internet Explorer 11 64 bit strictly with Default Level & Advance Security features Resetted instead of selecting app... Read more

Hey,
we are currently facing a problem with our SharePoint Site crashing the Internet Explorer 10. We have no idea which custom code triggers this crash and why.

We have no Problem with IE9, IE11, Chrome or FireFox.If we change the tab while loading the page in the IE10 and switch back, everything works fine.It crashes on all Windows 7 Systems tested so far. Seems to be no Policy problem. All Addons disabled, same problemCleared cached Data, same problem
Any idea how to debug this issue?
With kind regards!

Hi, i am new at this, so bear with me lol

We have just moved our XP computer into the living room, and connected it to a 58kb dial-up connection. We installed AVG 8 and everything was running fine

Now we've installed Windows Live OneCare Family safety on the machine so we can monitor my borther and sisters internet usage.

Now, the computer runs extremely slowely, Windows Explorer continually crashes, meaning we have great difficulty opening My Documents, and My Computer or anything that requires Explorer to open

As well as this, now the internet is majorly slow... even for bloomin dial-up, we used to get at least 9kbps, but now its shot down to between 2.5 and 1.5 kbps

AVG is now continuously scanning... even outside of scheduled scans, and constantly wants to update :S

And finally, i have now noticed that small files i dont use very frequently have begun to dissapear from the system!!! music files, images, word docs etc.

We have tried defragging it, scandisk, using AdAware SE Personal 2005, AVG Scans, and they all come up with negligeable results.

As well as this, now the pc wont install files for Trend Micro Online scans to run... so we cant even work it out that way :S

I have a suspicion this could be something to do with OneCare, or Multiple Viruses in the system that have somehow hidden themselves from AVG

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

Google has been redirecting, google images will only load a certain number of images and internet explorer opens randomly, when I do not even have it installed or use it. Also, phantom music/ads/speaking play when no programs or windows are open. I have run rkill, MalwareBytes and TDSS killer with no infected files being found. And that's where the extent of my knowledge runs out! You guys have helped me fix everything else, but now I finally need to post as I cannot finx this one based on other advice.
Much appreciated,
Cheers.

Hi. I uploaded a favicon to my root folder in my website which shows up fine in firefox 3 but doesnt show in ie 7... i created the icon rather unconventionally tho - resized a animated gif then renamed the extension to ico but still show up fine in ff so wondering if u can help me make it appear in ie 7 too

A:Problem with Favicon

If it's not actually an icon filetype(not just the name but the encoding) it probably wont work. I'm surprised it does in FF that's quite interesting =]. anyway you could try adding it in the code:

Code:
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://kmbfutsal.freehostia.com/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
and see if it forces it to work then?

Cheers,
Jamey

Hi all,

I'm concerned that there might be something wrong with my computer and need some advice.

The "Favicon" on the Google Tab for my HomePage http://www.google.com.au/ seems to have changed to something strange.

It used to be (and according to others still should be) the colorful little "g":

http://img689.imageshack.us/i/imagesca7q6b6p.jpg/

I then noticed it had gone to this:

http://img851.imageshack.us/i/faviconyg.png/

A local forum suggested I do a "Control + F5" to see if that fixed it and it has now gone to a red "V":

http://img171.imageshack.us/i/favicon2p.png/
I use IE8 and Windows 7 Home Premium. I have Norton 360 and it has not alerted me to any virus or other problem.

Everything appears to be operating normally on the computer but I'm suspicious when I see something unusual like this.

Can anyone tell me if they've seen these favicons before or if something dodgy is going on?
