Preferred Solution: Adding Windows 7 to a Windows server 2012 but got error while joining An active directory domain controller for the domain could not contacted

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone,

So on my work laptop yesterday i got disconnected from the network, and upon trying to reconnect i had internet access but no network access, ran through some diag, was able to ping my other work station, ip,dns and dg where all fine, checked for dns records issue, none found. so i removed it from the domain and tried re-adding it, and this is where the problem is no matter what i do i cannot add this laptop on the domain. i get full internet access on the network but no network access. i know the Dns server is functioning perfectly and cant be the issue, i have also flushed dns, rebuilt tcp/Ip stack and removed all lan and wlan profiles. i am also getting a certificate error when trying to access the network on wlan.

Using my local admin here are some print screens of first the issue when trying to add the laptop back to the domain, then Ping results to my DNS server .

after removing the machine from the domain it now no longer picking up the correct DNS server.

Would assigning a new DNS record resolve the issue???

Funny enough, we've found a handful of users on our network today unable to access local resources for the same reason!

Your DNS settings are being hijacked. They should point at your DC, but instead are pointed at a malicious DNS server hosted somewhere in Israel. Give your computer a good bath before letting play with the other children again.

We're currently in the process of mediation around here, too.

Hope that helps!

Hi all,
I am currently helping my company prototype automated Windows installation via network. I am using Server 2008r2 and Windows Deployment Services with Windows 7 as the

We have been getting sporadic reports from our users of the error, "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed."  The workaround has been to dejoin and rejoin the domain, but it keeps happening and we need a permanent
fix.  We are primarily a laptop shop.
It has been suggested we disable the automatic machine accouint password change on our domain members in GPO.  While this may be a viable option with relatively low security risks, I'd really like to figure out why it's happening and try to
fix it.
The machines can lose the trust relationship at random.  It can happen overnight, or after going into hibernation.  I've had it happen to me a few times.  The DCs (we have 2) both show error 5722, but one is spitting out a specific Kerberos
error that the other one is not:

While processing an AS request for target service krbtgt, the account kriegesh did not have a suitable key for generating a Kerberos ticket (the missing key has an ID of 2).
The requested etypes : 18. The accounts available etypes : 23  -133  -128  3  1. Changing or resetting the password of kriegesh will generate a proper key.
My main issue is trying to determine why this continues happening and if we can resolve it without disabling the account password.  If that IS our best option, then so be it.  Any
thoughts are welcome.
Thank you very much in advance!  ~Sarah

I currently have two Windows 2000 server. One is in Chicago (Primary) and one is in San Francisco (secondary). From time to time the Active Directory will sync with the other in Chicago. Unfortunetly, there is time it does not.

My question is how can I MANUALLY sync the Active Directory database so I know for sure both directory database are the same.

Meanwhile, When I make any changes I need to do both machine and it defeat the purpose of having both servers when they are not syncing properly.

Any help appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Hi All

I am trying to get to grips with Win2K server by running a test network at home. Because of space restrictions I just have a Dell Dimension XPS T500 (PIII, 128MB) running W2K Server and connected directly (NIC to NIC) with a crossover cable to a Toshiba Portege (also PIII) running W2K Professional. I have successfully (I think) set up Active Directory on the Server and have got to a point where the client gets the correct DHCP address from the client with DNS configured etc.
The problem I am having at the moment is adding the computer to the domain. When I go to the network ID section in W2KP and change properties, it tells me that it cannot locate the domain. I can see the domain in Network Neighborhood but cannot access it from there.
Any ideas on how to proceed?
The Server name is "Server" and the domain name is "Domain" (very imaginative I know). The full DNS name is server.domain.local.
I assume I only need to enter DOMAIN as domain name on W2K client??

A:{Solved} - Problem adding computer to W2K domain and using Active Directory

Greetings

No. If you have set up the AD, then you need to use the fully qualified Domain name (ie. "domain.local").

Also, and this is vitally important... have you set up the DHCP server to send it's IP address as the DNS server, or have you setup the W2K pro client to use the server as it's DNS server? See, W2K works on Dynamic DNS. It's like WINS, in a DNS format. It is important that the W2K client can see the DNS server and know where it is.

Hello everyone.

A while back before I knew better I gave a client of mine an active directory domain that ended in .org and did not exist on the internet at the time. Now, I'm discovering in the DNS event log at regular intervals errors about how the computers in the internal domain are unable to register in the DNS server of the web domain of the same name. So, my question is whether there is something I can do to change the Active Directory domain so that I don't get those errors anymore.
They're running Windows 2003 server standard with Active Directory, roaming profiles, routing and remote access for VPN, DHCP server, standard fileserver, and print server. I may have missed one or two things but likely I haven't. The server has itself as the primary DNS server though it's not the 127 address it's the actual IP. The secondary server is the router but I have the DHCP giving out the servers for opendns.com as options 3 and 4 after the Domain Controller and the router but I had the problem before adding the opendns.com entries.
Anyone know why the local DNS server is trying to register entries in the DNS server of the web domain? Anyone have any ideas on how I can go about fixing it?
Thanks

Joe

P.S. if this is a question more appropriate for another area feel free to move it.

I just setup a Windows Server 2003 server (Hostname MS01), including Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP. The server is on a private LAN, no other domain controllers, DNS servers, etc are present.

The private LAN includes VMware guest OSs, Windows 2000 Adv Server servers, and Windows Server 2003 Servers.

The Windows 2000 Adv Server servers join the new domain hosted by MS01, no problem.

The Windows Server 2003 systems cannot join the domain. The following message is returned:

The following error occurred attempting to join the domain ...
The specified server cannot perform the requested operation

They can resolve to the domain name, but the domain basically is refusing them from joining.

All servers have the same administrator login/password.

All servers can resolve hostnames through the DNS server.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Nevermind. . . I forgot to reset firewall settings in Norton 360.

We have a small network using Windows Server 2003. I'm having trouble setting up a new workstation, using Windows XP. It was finally working, then suddenly it cannot locate the domain controller and access our file server. In windows explorer, "My Network Places", it does not even see the server.

I've tried to check all settings I can think of and they are set the same as workstations that work just fine.

Problem seems to be the same whether I connect wired or wireless. No difference.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

This issue can occur because the Sysvol directory is not shared out on the domain controller. To verify that the Sysvol directory is shared out, type "net share" at command prompt to see if the Sysvol share is showing.

Hi, I'm new to these forms, my name is Kcaz.

Today I was trying to add wireless printers to my computer (Toshiba running Windows 7 64 bit). At home, I have one wireless printer (Cannon) which works fine. To install that i think I downloaded the drivers from a CD.

Now I was trying to download the drivers for the printers at school. They are all connected through the main internet network. I've seen people (mac) download the drivers wirelessly, and I wanted to do the same. So in Microsoft Word 2007, when I press print, then in the window "Find Printer" an error comes up that says "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable". It doesn't matter where I try it, home or school, i guess the problem is within the computer.

I tried to google this, but the responses are all about how people can't print, or another related, but not relevant problem.

Is there anyway to fix this?

The workstations in the Domain are all Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Everything has been working well for almost 3 years. A few weeks ago, they setup an extra server but decided that the VMware Server that the DC was on, was running low on memory, so they Cloned the Windows 2003 DC to the other VMware server. They say that everything was fine until they discovered that the shared printers no longer worked and various other problems.

That was when I got involved. When I checked Control Panel --> System --> Advanced System Settings --> Computer Name, it shows the Full Computer name (plus domain), the Domain BUT...

The Network ID is greyed out but the Change Button is OK. If I click the Change Button, Member of Domain shows the domain name, but it's greyed out.

I shut down the cloned Domain Controller and started up the original one, but this didn't make any difference.

I tried taking one of the workstations out of the domain, but when I tried to put it back, the Domain stayed greyed out, so no way to put it back in. Netdom is also missing from all the workstations.

A:A really strange error with Active Directory Domain.

First you should never Clone a DC, to make a new DC, you install Windows Server and then run DCPRomo the new one. Then if you don't want the original, you run DCpromo to stop it from becoming a DC.

On a DC, I would expect some Domain settings to be greyed out as they cannot be changed once a server is a domain controller. The only way to to get at some of the settings is to reboot the server into safe mode (or Directory Services Recovery mode) by pressing F8 when it boots.

Have you had a look at the Event Viewer console esp DFS, DNS and Directory SErvices logs to see what it is complaining about?

I've been trying to join a new Windows 7 Professional machine to a domain controller running Windows 2003 Server with no luck.  We currently have 4 Windows XP machines running on that domain without any issues, but when I try to add the Windows 7 computer,
here is what happens:

A computer account on the domain could not be found (confirmed it is already there)
I put in the computer name and domain again, and Administrator credentialsNow it tells me: "An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a DC in the domain being joined has failed."
I currently have DNS on the Windows 7 PC set to the Domain Controller and have IPv6 unchecked under Network Properties.  I can even ping the domain name (resolves to IP of the domain controller).  It looks like it can, indeed, find the domain from
the message in step 1, so am I missing something here?

Hi,
You need flush your DNS cache in client side first.
Then, let?s create the following registry value for a try:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManWorkstation\Parameters

 - Created a DWORD DomainCompatibilityMode = 1
 - Created a DWORD DNSNameResolutionRequired = 0

This was originally posted in the Server 2012 forum, but perhaps it's more applicable to Windows 7.

I've joined the Windows 7 Pro workstations to the Domain using the SERVER2012/Connect app and that seemed to work fine.  I made the Users all Standard, not Admin, and access to the Shared folders is working fine too.  Users appear to be in the
Administrators group on the local machine, which is what I need.
However, a number of our applications aren't working correctly ... one writes changes to HKey Current User and those changes will not stick.  Some IE sites that require changes have to be made each time; those changes don't save.  Some
of the ODBC connections to SQL databases are behaving strangly as well.  I tried checking permissions on the Windows Registry keys, and they looked OK.  Turning off User Access Control did not help either.
If I log on to the workstation not using the Domain Account I don't have this problem.  And, one of the workstations which had performed the Windows 10 Upgrade while connected to the previous Domain Controllder works fine.
Any direction would be greatly appreciated!   Thx DMiller

hey there, the office that i work at doing odds and ends for everything and anything doesn't have there networking setup in a domain enviroment, its in a peer to peer workgroup i think you call it. Basically my question is this...what does a server need in order to become a domain controller...is there seperate hardware or software or is it built into windows 2000 server. Right now the Dell 1400 SC server has 1Gb of ram and (2) Pentium III 1125 MHz processors. What would we have to do in order to get the server setup as a domain controller????? We plan on doing a clean install of everything if we can use this server as a domain controller... Also, i think one of this initial problems that they never had a domain controller setup is because most of the computers are running 98SE (about 28) some XP (about 6) and some 2000 pro (about 6) Im not sure if the 98's were a issue with a domain enviroment? setup type-> Enterprise CAs
While configuring ADDS , under Deployment configuration, we have selected ?Add a new forest?(as there was some issue while selecting add a domain controller to existing domain) and provided a new root domain as ?aaa.org?after
next step we have provided the ?Directory Service Restore Mode? password
.
How can we revert server to old state ? The server earlier was SharePoint server.

This must be kind of common as I see a lot on this issue, but unfortunately not much on a fix.
Anyways I'm on a path to MCSA so I need to do labs on Server 2003 from time to time. I use virtual PC 2007 to make virtual machines of XP Clients and an Enterprise Server 2003. Anyways I can't attach clients to the domain, it gives a message that the server can't perform the requested operation for whatever reason. When setting up the domain controller I get this:

Diagnostic Failed
The registration diagnostic has been run 2 times.

Warning: Domain Controller functions like joining a domain, logging onto a domain, and Active Directory replication will not be available until the DNS infrastructure for Active Directory is correctly configured.

The DNS zone authoritative for the domain Nirom.local cannot be updated because it is the DNS root zone. Domain controllers will not send dynamic updates to the DNS root zone. If you want to use this domain name, select 'Install and configure the DNS server on this computer' below and create a delegation for the new DNS zone Nirom.local from the root zone to this DNS server.

The primary DNS server tested was: a.root-servers.net (198.41.0.4)

The zone was: . (root)

Okay well since I haven't studied the DNS part that much yet how do I do that?... Read more

Hello!
I have a little problem. I am running XP on a workstation and i need to join a domain on win2000 server. When i try it as usual (and as it is working on EVERY other my computer running also XP), i get immediately an error, that it canť reach the domain controller. I don't know why, because i get IP/DNS from the server as normal.
I suspect the comodo firewall blocking ut, but no message pops up, and no logs are saved.

Can anyone help? Its really only on this workstation, and there is

XP sp2, comodo, Spybot, SG, Avast

on every other computer (even with vista) it works, so i suppose the server is working fine.

A:XP joining 2000 Server domain - problem

i turned off the FW and avast, and it's still not workig. I have to say that i did some anti-malware procedures on this computer and maybe some thing is missing to join the domain, i don't know :/

I have an employee that gets this upon every boot on his assigned laptop. I have utterly no idea what it means or how to correct it. Help needed please.

A:Error: Domain controller could not be found for the specified domain.

Check the machine account. You might also delete it and recreate it. This may require a domain admin to rejoin the machine to the domain.

Hello,

I'm having problems connecting a printer to my laptop. The printer was working but when my laptop went away for repair it did not work on its return.

The printer works on my macbook and my PC running Vista however it will not run on the laptop running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

I think it is something to do with the fact that my printer is on a network somewhere?? some how but I haven't a clue what to do.

When I try to add the printer using the add printer wizard it cannot locate the printer even though its switched on etc...

I haven't a clue why it won't work can someone try to help.

By the way I have tried downloading the drivers from the Epson website but when I press print it sends it to the print queue which then clears but no print!!!!

is the laptop on a network or domain? it sounds like they either joined or removed your laptop from a domain.
How to tell:

Right click "Computer" and choose properties

you should see "Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings"

I have a Machine with windows 7 x64 pro which was connected to a domain controller that is dead and not available anymore.
I want to continue to use this computer standalone and keep all the software and configurations already installed, however i need to change my pass and i am not able to do it getting this msg : configuration
information could not be read from the domain controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or because access is denied.
How can i solve this (change the pass or copy all the user settings to local) without the domain controller server?

Hello, I'm having trouble with trying to join my client computer to the server domain. My client is Windows 7 Professional and the server domain OS is Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard. I tried the usual method of going to System-Change Settings-Change-and entering the domain name to join. However, I get the message saying:

An active directory domain controller (ad dc) for the domain sean.local could not be contacted. Ensure that the domain name is typed correctly.

I know for a fact that the domain name (sean.local) is correct. On my DC, I have Active Directory, DHCP and DNS installed. Its weird because I could ping the server IP just fine and get a response, but when I ping the domain name (sean.local) I do not get a response. I get a message saying "Ping request could not find host sean.local. Please check the name and try again."

I think the issue I'm having with not being able to join the domain has something to deal with the DNS server. I will post the network configurations for both the client and the server domain and hopefully we could get this client to finally join the domain once and for all. Thank you everyone for your help, I appreciate it.

Trying to print to wireless Brother printer that was working perfectly, also lost communication with Ethernet connected HP laserjet. Get errors indicating "printer offline" and Netgear WIMDR3400v2 doesn't have a driver. These printers work from other computers on the LAN, and were working until recently. I think I installed a update to the Netgear Router, and that may have been the problem, but I do not know where to go now.

A:Active Directory Domain Service not currently available

Is the DNS set correctly? Check your IP settings (ipconfig). Did you lose any LAN functionality on that PC other than what you stated? Open network shares, Internet problems? How are you connected to the Netgear Router?

What we have:

A domain registered with hostgator.comMany AWS VMs and in office PCs each with different logon credentials
What we need:

To enable single sign on across all computers and VMs using Active Directory domain services.Be able to control user permmissions via ADNot have to manually change DNS settings when adding computers to the new domain I assume we have to make.
I started by making a new domain in a new forest on a new VM meant to be the new domain controller(hostgator domain=clearcapgroup.com and new domain=ClearCap.com).  I created records on hostgator to point requests for clearcap.com to the new domain
controller (ClearCap.com domain controller = dc1).  When I use the wizard to try and connect a computer to ClearCap.com via dc1, dc1 is detected but cannot be contacted.

Is this even the proper way to achieve the end goal of single sign on across all PCs and AD services for users and groups?  Should I make a subdomain of clearcapgroup.com instead of a separate domain?  I am mildly experienced in networking, main
concentration is development usually, any help/advice/resources are appreciated!

I have a dell inspiron 15 7559. Windows 10 OS.
I been trying to use my printer HP Envy 4520. I can confirm the printer works because the printer prints with other computers and is easily detected via usb connection.
I tried uninstalling Microsoft office and reinstalling, I tried restarting printer spool service (and it was by default automatic startup), I tried removing the printer and reinstalling the drivers from the official website.
I tried connecting via usb, bluetooth and direct. Perhaps I might've done something wrong.
I've been able to print with this laptop with the same printer in the past.
In the end, whether I use notepad or Microsoft Word or any program to print, the laptop does not detect the HP 4520. If I click add/find printer, the message "Active Domain Directory Services is not available" pops up.Sorry if I posted to the wrong forum, I am new to this. Thank you in advance.

A:Active Domain Directory Services is not available

Run services.msc from your start box.  Look for Print Spooler -- is that service running?  If it's not -- start it -- that should solve the problem.

We've recently acquired a Laptop with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.
After deploying all standard applications to the laptop, we noticed that it was no longer getting an address from the domain DHCP server and receiving "unidentified Network" message when looking at the network card. This is a Windows 2003 Domain with DHCP
(2 of them) installed on Windows 2003 SP2 (all patched) DC's.
We tried the following as per many other similar post:

rebuild the IP stack update the NIC driver reinstall the NIC disable IPv6 update all patches on all DC's Remove computer from domain Remove every application one by one disable the firewall remove any policies and modify existing GPO modify registry as per some other posts restore to previous states of the laptop modify routes etc, etc, etc...
After more than 8 hours of troubleshooting, we gave up and decided to do a factory restore. NOTE that the laptop did get DHCP from the network prior ot joining it to the domain... we were able to download all updates, applications and join it to the corporate
domain.
Now again today, we are not able to get DHCP after joining the laptop to the domain. Here are is exactly what we did today:

Restore Laptop to factory default - Windows 7 64Bit Login as default user with administrator priv (as per setup) after reboot Get DHCP address after reboot??   YES!!!  10.100.2.2 with Subnet and DNS
Run Windows Update Reboot Activate hidden administrator account Assign Password Reboot Lo... Read more

A:Windows 7 pro... Cannot get DHCP after joining company Domain

So i've created a new OU and blocked inheritance of the GPO.  So far that's working and DHCP is assigning the IP address.
I have no idea what's in the default GPO that could be causing the issue. We have very little configured. Mostly stuff for the windows update service.
We'll have to revisit this later... i've spent almost a week on this issue.  If anyone else ever comes up with a solution, please let me know.
Thanks Bob for your help.
