How To Change Privacy Settings in Windows 10-Build 1803

Q: How To Change Privacy Settings in Windows 10-Build 1803

Guys,

Found the answer to what I was seeking! If you don't want things like Cortona to remember your searches, or your Microsoft Account activities, do the following:

1.) In the search box type "Privacy" (No quotes)
2.) In The General Settings go to Privacy Settings
3.) Go to Activity History, and there are a lot of things you can clear and uncheck about the information and searches on your computer. Very helpful!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have Windows XP with Explorer 7 browser. In order to control spyware cookies, I try changing advanced privacy settings (Tools/Internet Settings/Privacy), and when I change the default accept first and third party cookies to PROMPT under third party cookies, I am not allowed to click on the APPLY button (it is greyed out, as if the change has not happened). So when I reopen the advanced button under Privacy, the cookies are again in the Accept mode.

In other words, the privacy settings will not change!

Any suggestions to fix this??

Sincerely!

Hi, I have just installed Windows 10 (Build 1803) and I have ran Leanovo Vantage on here to update all drivers and firmware, however for some reason I cannot increase (or decrease) the brightness of the laptop at all. I did some research into this and I saw this has been an issues before on some other models but I couldn't seem to find anything related to the P51. The screen is visable, however I would say it is currently fixed at around 40-50% brightness. Has anybody come across this before and is there anything I can try to do to fix this?  Regards, Jonathan.

Windows still uses Microsoft made "Generic Mobile Broadband" driver, even after installing the Fibocom L830-EB Wireless WAN Dreiver For Windows 10 (Versio 1709 or later).  This ends in only giving a 50 mbps LTE connection even if the location, sim card and subscription gives 300 mps connection possibillities.   Windows only sees the generic driver, even if I manually try to choose a driver for this. No Fibocom drivers are found in the list.  Is there something that got broken during the latest 1803 installation? Has anyone else noticed this?

Hi guys, I've been using Windows 10 for a few weeks now and I was looking to get Cortana to work. However, Cortana tells me that I need to allow it to access contacts. I clicked settings and I saw that all the settings were on, but were grayed out.

When I take a look at some of the other settings, some are also grayed out and some are not. When I go to the general tab, I get this:

Sometimes if I look through the privacy settings, the settings app just crashes for no reason without warning and I'm left confused and unable to enable Cortana.

I hope I've given enough info that can be used to solve my problem. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Did you run a third party security program like Safe XP?
That is what I did and when I tried to undo it via Safe XP it did not undo all of the changes that included those options in WMP privacy settings being greyed out.

Here is the answer I found on a Microsoft newsgroup. Warning you will be changing your registry so back it up. This may not be your answer. I had a value of 1 in the following registry entries and changed it to zero.
The following is a copy of the answer I found..................

They put DWORD values in no less than three separate places... so if you're

Anyway, there was as you said some in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies

'PreventCDDVDMetadataRetrieval' with a value of one, plus a couple of values
called 'NoCodecDownload' and 'PreventCodecDownload'.

In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsMediaPlayer I found
the same again.

Once I had changed the values of these to one, my privacy options re-opened.

A new setting you can put in your system IF you are running 1803 (OS build 17134.48) is the "Ultimate Performance" plan. Open up powershell (as administrator) and type the command:

powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61

Go into settings, system, power and sleep, select "additional power settings" under "related settings" and you now should have "Ultimate Performance" as a selection. This will only work if running this version of windows. Type "winver" in the search box to check what version you are running, first. This is for "higher end PCs"

Today, our Windows Insiders will get the first look at the new privacy set up experience coming to Windows 10 this spring, and we?re excited to hear what they think. Windows Insiders are among the first people to experience the new ideas and concepts we?re building in the next version of Windows 10. In return, we get to hear what they think, to help us make Windows the best it can be for our customers.

This spring, Microsoft will release an update to Windows 10 that will include changes to the setup experience for privacy settings. This new design conveys focused information to help our customers make focused choices about their privacy and offers two new settings for Inking & Typing and Find my device.

For our Windows Insiders who install today?s build, they?ll be able to experience this new set up for the first time. Not everyone will experience the same setup, however. For example, some will review their settings through a single screen set up where selections such as ?Find My Device? and? Inking & typing? are independent selections.
New single screen set up layout.
Others will receive seven individual screens, each dedicated to a single privacy setting with the recommended Microsoft selection for the best Windows 10 experience distinguished by a dotted line. They will need to select a choice and then click accept to move to the next screen.

In this example, Find My Device is shown on its own screen during set up. Microsoft recommends selecti... Read more

My privacy settings on my Win 8.1 ENT machine have changed back to defaults several times. I haven't kept good track of how often because I didn't think they should ever change from where I had set them when I performed the installation. It's a domain joined
machine but we don't have any Group Policy settings (if there are any) for the privacy settings. I suspect it may happen when updates are received and will try to pay attention after we do patching here shortly, but I'm wondering if anyone else is having this
issue and if they are, if they've managed to figure out what is the cause.

Hi, there are many topics like this and there was a solution, but it doesn't work any more. Here is one: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Yoga-Gen2-OLED-Color-Settings-stopped-work... So the fix would be uninstalling "System Interface Foundation V2 Device" from device manager, reboot and open Vantage and download and install SystemInterfaceFoundation.exe. But that doesn't work anymore and changing color settings does nothing. any fix for this? Also another problem I have with color settings is that the custom color mode doesn't work. It works when you reset the Windows but after Windows Update the ability to use custom color settings is gone. I would like to see some fix for this also as I would like to try the DCI-P3 color space.

Hey Guys,

I have a local account as a default on my machine. I disabled the Timeline feature, no problem. But, no matter what build 1803 has this "Pick Up Where You Left Off" as a part of Cortona/Search and it shows a list of Recent activity things you do on your computer. Even non-related Microsoft tasks. I have attached an image to illustrate. Is there any way to turn this off, and just use Cortona like the search in previous search builds?

Apparently, turning off timeline doesn't make a difference to Cortona.

The preview build of Windows 10 has been out for less than a week and feedback thus far seems to be largely positive, especially when you compare the reception with that of the Windows 8 preview.

Microsoft launched the Windows Insider Program along with the technical preview of Windows 10 and promised that users who signed up for it would receive builds "as soon as they are available".

The company did not provide details on what it meant by that. It is however likely that Windows 10 systems won't be updated whenever Microsoft creates a new build. It is more likely that only select builds will be made available to the public.

The Windows 10 Technical Preview ships with hidden settings to customize this delivery. It is necessary to add two keys to the Windows Registry for that.

Hi,

This is a long description sorry, just so u know the situation:

A few days ago, I started having random constant pop-ups which seem to be the same thing everytime. I open Internet Explorer, then go to google and search something, pop-ups like from Zedo and Filmon appear. They only seem to appear when I change websites, and theres another pop-up that turns the window like "My Computer" Then shows its scanning it and tells me not to close it! I don't know how this started. And, I noticed that in my Privacy Settings, it keeps changing to "Accept All Cookies" even if i try to change it to "Block All Cookies" every 2 mins. I scanned my whole computer with Norton 360 and XoftSpy Anti-Spyware, and RegCure. 2 Trojan.Byteverify was found from Java, some cookies, removed all, still having pop-ups. Also, in one instance, I hear something from my computer, as if someone's talking etc. with a blurry sound in background, but I can't find any program causing it. And, my taskbar sometimes disappears and the program (e.g. Internet explorer) then freezes, but i can go to task manager to log off and back on. Here is a HijackThis Log, please help me:

Does anyone know of a Freeware program that changes the "Advance Privacy Settings" on IE? Right now you have to do the following to allow just "session cookies":
1- Tools
2- Internet Options
3- Privacy
4- Advanced
5- Check- "Override automatic cookie handling
6- Check Block for "First Party Cookies"
7- Check Block for "Third Party Cookies"
8- Check "always allow session cookies"

I find I need only session cookies on most of the sites I frequent (like this one). Wish there was a program that would remember your preferred settings and with a push of a button change them to pre-set alternate settings.

Please help with spyware/malware proble. I keep getting pop-ups and occasionally get Security Protection Center warning bubbles in my system tray.

Also, and I think this is connected to the problems, the cookie settings in my IE privacy settings are atomatically changed to 'accept all cookies', even after I set it to medium-high. Finally, when I check the task manager (to see if anything unrecognised i running), explorer is often using up a relatively large amount of memory, maybe this is also connected t the spyware problem (?).

Any help would be much appreciated. I've attached a hijack this log for anyone who knows about that kind of stuff. Also, I use Norton 360, which often detects one or two risk, but deletes them, additionally I have been using Spybot Search and Destroy to detect and rove risks, however the problems persist. Recently we saw the rise of Google+ and users migrating to it, due to its very high Privacy Settings. Well, facebook is up with its answer..

Facebook, on its official blog said that it would be upgrading its privacy settings(looks like they took a leaf out of Google+).. Here are some settings which they would be including soon.

1.Inline Profile Controls: Whenever you want to edit your privacy controls for your profile, you usually have to head over to Privacy and select the appropriate option. Now, each and every aspect of your profile has the button right next to it, making it easier to select what to share with who.
2. Profile Tag Review: Does people tag you in weird pictures and its notifications irritates you? You now get to approve or disapprove photos, posts or videos where you have been tagged. Well, pretty useful feature.

3. Content Tag Review: You would now be able to approve or disapprove if anyone has tagged you in your own photos or posts. Now, if you see someone’s photo, you can also tag them(subject to their approval). This feature would again help you in not getting tagged in annoying unrelated pictures.

4. View Profile As: You can now see how your profile looks to others and make necessary privacy changes accordingly. All this can now be done by clicking a button next to the Edit Profile button called ‘View Profile As’.

5. Inline Sharing Controls: Facebook is planning to change its update option. After the updates, you will be able to add you... Read more

Seems like the folk at Redmond are not satisfied with collecting every bit of collectible data from the W10 upgraders but are now doing the same for W8 and W7.

Am I paranoid about Privacy..? No.... but I am paranoid about the absolute inadequacy of those "trusted" organisations that hold our data.

And I am also paranoid about those "Trusted Partners" that every organisation now seems to add to their own "trustworthiness". Who vets these so-called "Trusted Partners" and who says that I would trust them..? And who constantly checks these "Trusted Partners" to ensure that they are still to be trusted..?

Hi theo19 I'm not aware of this issue, but these two threads on SuperUser could provide part of the answer.https://superuser.com/questions/504004/windows-8-turns-program-sound-volume-down-randomlyhttps://superuser.com/questions/74116/windows-7-lowers-applications-volume-automaticallyMy guess is that a third-party program could have caused this, or even yourself without even knowing: by checking or setting a random option that also affected this one. I suggest you to set it back to default (80% like you say), and then wait a few days and see if it changes back to "Do Nothing".

The main thing that I noticed was that the color of the bar across the bottom of the screen was a different color. I went into the “control panel” and started to change the “appearance” back to what I had been using (I wasn’t really sure what the settings were before so I had to play around what different settings to get it back to MY NORMAL.) I couldn’t seem to get it changed back to what I was used to having so I did a “restore” and that seemed to do the job. However, the next time that I started my pc I was back to the same problem. At that point I just changed what I could in the control panel (display) and went about my business with working on the pc. Then I started to notice that there were OTHER problems. I looked as though my "SETTINGS" in WORD and OUTLOOK had changed as well as the appearance of my desk top. So I did another “restore” to an earlier date---NO CHANGE!!!—I could not get my old settings back even though I used an earlier date.

A few days later I noticed another quirk—I left the computer on over night (which I normally do not do) and in the morning my “... Read more

I have just bought a new computer with Win10 V.1607. I am trying to understand what is all very new to me. In Privacy, Settings/Location Location is turned on and I assume Location History is as well however the option to turn Cortana on or off under Choose Apps......... is greyed out. It says that "Location History must be on for Cortana to work". Location is turned on and therefore I assume Location History is on as well although there is no option to turn History on or off. There seems to be quite a lot about this on the internet but I can't seem to find a solution. Any thoughts please?

A:Cortana Greyed Out in Privacy Settings Location

Hi, have a look at this:
The issue was linked to location services, which need to be set to "on" in the Action Centre. When I attempted to do this, I found the option was greyed out, which lead to looking at which services were currently running (via "Services.msc"). It transpired that "Geolocation service" was disabled, and I was unable to restart it. A bit of Googling took me to an MS support site, which said this was a known issue with Win 10:
"Geolocation

After disabling the Geolocation Service by changing startup type to Disabled, attempts to re-enable it will fail with an error message. As the Geolocation Service can no longer be started, Geolocation will remain disabled on the device and prevent location based functionality from working. To work around this issue, manually delete the following regkey using regedit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lfsvc\TriggerInfo\3."
I edited the registry as described, and sure enough, after a re-boot, the Geolocation service could then be started. I opened MS Config, and made sure it was set to run at startup, re-booted again, and once Win 10 had started up, my "Location" button was live, along with an all singing and dancing Cortana.

thank you for your response

A:Possible to change manufactured settings on windows 7?

Hi,

What you can do is go one step better : after upgrading to Home Premium, image your new installation to an external drive. If you ever need to "refresh" the netbook if something goes wrong, you simply restore the image you made. Its very easy to do.

Use this to do that:

Imaging with free Macrium
