Lenovo System Diagnostics Advice

Q: Lenovo System Diagnostics Advice

Hello. I would like to make an inquiry concerning system diagnostics for my computer system. I run a Windows 10 Home (Ver. 1703, OS Build 15063.483) on a ThinkPad T450s (under a 4-year warranty that'll expire on July 20 2019). I have recently run a System Diagnostics for my system and found issues regarding two storage tests (the tests being for Targeted Read Test & SMART Short Shelf Test for Storage 'device' WDC WD10JPVX-08JC3T5 - 931.51 GBs; the report is attached for reference). I was wondering if I should be concerned over those failed tests. I would like to know as the end results report state that my computer is 100% functional, even though it doesn't display the one storage 'device' with the two failed tests. Any help/suggestion/advice on the case would be appreciated!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Everyone, I recently posted an issue with the fan inside my not even 2 months old Y900 Gaming desktop PC but it still has it's issues on and off which I am still discusing with support via e-mail and I have done all the Driver updates for the GEForce 1080 card and it is all up to date but still having the occasional issue but will get it resolved one day soon.I did get an e-mail back from Lenovo support a few weeks back after I said that I thought the fan inside was running very high at times so I was then sent an e-mail with a view to fixing any fan issues with this information:Update BIOS and Power/ Lenovo Energy Management Drivers 1. Go to the link : http://support.lenovo.com/au/en/2. Type in you Serial Number [R302YVJE] in the 'Search products' box and hit the search icon and you will be routed to a new page.3. Click on Drivers & Software 4. Select Component :BIOS/UEFI, Operating System: Windows 10 (64-bit). Choose your Operating System if you are not using windows 10 5. Download and install BIOS/UEFI Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) and restart you machine when prompted to do so. 6. Test again.I did this an updated everything (Not without issues) but eventually it was done. This brings me to the point of this message. Since the BIOS/UEFI update, I hadn't gone into my Lenovo nerve centre until today and when I went in to the nerve centre just before, where it gave me 3 sections/options to choose from to go into, now only has 2 being Network Priority and LE... Hi all. My Lenovo Twist (Ultrabook s230u) has ran into problems - and tries to run AutoRepair but gets hung up each time. Lenovo has instructions for creating a bootable USB to run UEFI diagnostics: Lenovo UEFI Diagnostics - Bootable USB (Create it on Windows OS) - Desktops / Notebooks / Workstations. But it doesn't work. Level 2 support (thru IBM) said they haven't found a way to run diagnostics from a USB on this model (Twist). He showed me how to disable secure boot in BIOS setup to allow both UEFI & Legacy Boot. But he also tried & failed to create a USB key from Lenovo's instructions: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub...le-usb-204.txt. The command line given (UefiBootableGenerator.exe --create -l boot -u I -f "UEFI_Bootable_v02.00.04.zip") throws the error: "Invalid option to --create: -1". But these instructions were the same as given for a prior UEFI bootable version 1.05, which was posted in an earlier thread (www.eightforums.com/general-support/18039-how-access-boot-menu-bios-windows-8-a.html). So I thought someone here could shed some light on:
- How to create this USB key from Lenovo's download file
- Why the command line is not working
- How to run the diagnostics from a USB on this Lenovo Twist

This Lenovo model has diagnostics preloaded but, again, I've tried several times and it's not running. After starting AutoRepair, it says its running Diagnostics. Then a few times it's says checking or repairing hard drive, which says might ... Read more

The error message seems to be referring to "-1" but the command refers to "-l" (One being the number "1" and the other being the letter between "k" and "m" in the alphabet.) Both look very similar in that txt file of instructions, and I think they even get it wrong.

8. Now create the USB key by entering this command:
BootableGenerator.exe --create -l -u -f

where
*<-1> is the new name of the USB key (limit of 11 characters)

(The -l and -1 look more alike in standard Courier fonts than in the Forum's font too.)

It couldn't be as simple as confusion between 1 and l could it?

Also, I'm assuming you checked the "I" (yet another easy confusion) later in the command was the actual letter of the USB drive or changed it?

I guess your PC isn't working well enough to post a screenshot, but maybe a photo is possible and would be helpful?

Somebody else may have had a similar, but the problem & answer is in German!!  I don't speak German! When I run Lenovo diagnostics, there is a problem with the memory test.  When I run the Quick random pattern test, it finishes with 'Cancelled'.  I haven't cancelled it.  It doesn't say whether the test failed or passed.  All other tests pass ok.I have a Lenovo G505s & running windows10. I see in the change log that they added a new version of the Lenovo Diagnostics in the 1.27 version of the BIOS for the T450 (20BV0005US). The problem is, when you press F10 on boot up, rather than start the Lenovo Diagnostics like it is supposed to, the screen flashes a couple of times and the computer reboots. Likewise, if you press F12 on boot up, Tab over to the applications menu, arrow down to Lenovo Diagnostics, and press Enter, the screen flashes a couple of times and the computer reboots. I have attempted to address this by feedback in the software and drivers downloads section, on a feedback from a motherboard replacement, and by calling in to Lenovo after the motherboard was replaced, and have never had this issue solved.

My pc is a Lenovov H50-55 with onboard AMD Radeon R700 graphics (1G dedicated & up to 6G extended). When Lenovo hardware scan kicked off today, all diagnostics passed - except for the video card. When I ran extended diagniostics, it failed on extended video memory test with a code of W19UJ2AAC-RVS4HE and "video memory". It offered to take me to support to order a "new video card." Well, first of all, it is built into the motherboard, and I don't know what the full explanation of that error code is. Can anyone help? Now when I run LSB from the downloaded file on the website here, it doesn't even get to that test before it fails. What is this telling me, and is there (other than bypassing the onboard video hardware) that can be sdone to alleviate the problem?

Hello, I have  a lenovo Z500 touch that I have seldom used in the 3 years since I bought it mostly playing music when on holiday. I have just started trying to use it with Cubase music production software with an external monitor via HDMI. Several times a day the system freezes and can only be recovered by hard reset. There is no sign in the system event log of a problem until after a restart when the kernel reports that the system wasn't cleanly shut down. The system is much more stable using only the integrated display. I discovered that there is a downloadable Lenovo Diagnostics CD which is built on a Linux base. The Z500 freezes every time in the Video Card stress test both with and without an HDMI connected display. It has now also frozen on one of the extended memory tests. It is exactly the same type of freeze as occurs with Windows. So, this is not a Windows problem as it occurs in the diagnostics Linux system. In Windows it only ever fails when a second display is connected so looks like it is related to the Intel HD 4000 graphics. Running HWMonitor there is no sign of high CPU temperatures. At the point of freezing, which I have just directly watched, the screen flickers. For a short while after the freeze the keyboard back light can be switched on and off and then about 30 seconds after it stops responding. caps lock and num lock don't respond immediately after the freeze. I stongly suspect that there is a serious hardware problem and ... Read more

Start with memory diagnostics. But could also be the motherboard. Eliminate memory as the cause. If you have two modules you can also test one at a time if you have crashes with one only then you know.

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

My Lenovo is developing strange problems. From the start, the keyboard was doubling up characters. Now the USB ports have all shut-down. The USB controller is not showing in the BIOS. However Lenovo Diagnostics (Health and Support in Vantage) shows no indication of failure. I have had it checked with Fry's and Best Buy - both suspect motherboard. But to just diagnose they want $90. Plus $150 to replace motherboard.  This laptop is my bread and butter. I can not send this away for repairs.  Firstly why is Lenovo Diagnostics is passing something that is not working? Why motherboard needs to be replaced?

A:Yoga 900 13ISK2 - USB ports are not working - passes Lenovo and windows diagnostics

First, make sure everything is up to date. Use Lenovo Vantage to install all the latest drivers - especially the chipset drivers - and the latest BIOS. Sometimes, that's all it takes.

Hi rjordan393 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Either that the LSC is not ok or it has encountered issue during the test that was not able to verify.
Try to uninstall it from programs and features under control panel and download a fresh updated copy from the support site and see if that would work.

Likewise for differential comparison you can also use similar test software such as this and this .
Update us how things go.

Hello,   I have an Envy 15t laptop, and the original battery seems to not be functioning properly (the initial charge is quite low and the laptop does not last a long time).  I bought a new battery to remedy this issue, and I was hoping to do a calibration test.  While doing this, I ran into a strange problem.   For some reason, when I try to access the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (by pressing ESC on bootup, followed by F2), it looks different now than it did before (I don't think it's because of the new battery before though, since I still had the old menu even with the new battery at some point).  The old menu used to be more of a GUI style, something like Figure 9 in the following link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03467259 Now though, under HP PC Hardware Diagnostics, it doesn't look like a GUI (it's more text based), and I only have the following options: Memory Test, Hard Drive Check, Language, Exit.  I no longer see a "Components" option, and I certainly cannot access the Battery option from within Components (since the Components option is missing).  Any ideas about why this is the case?  Thank you.

Is there a diagnostic program that can tell me what is going on inside my notebook? I am used to the one that came with my MSI machine that tells you CPU/GPU temp, fan revs etc. I suspect fan in this notebook is not working or is it not fitted with a fan? Also is anyone aware if win10 update can be turned off. I have totally had it well and truly that every update totally trashes the machine each and every time the download installs. I am sick of losing my 3rd party software and my data. This laptop will go into orbit on the end of my boot if it doesn't stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no control over when it decides to update and I can be right in the middle of things and down it goes never to restart again until factory reset.

I bought this because MSI like to play funny buggers with that machine. It has now gone back for 3 warranty repairs and now is back there again as they damaged it last time they had it and who knows when I'll see that machine again!

My hard drive failed and I've taken it out to prevent further damage to the data. I want to keep using my computer with a Linux live USB while I wait for a new drive. When I turn on the laptop, I can press escape to bring up the startup menu and F9 is listed as boot device options and F10 is listed as BIOS. If I choose any option, no matter which one, the computer opens System Diagnostics. If i press F9 or F10 during boot, I see the text pop up acknowledging the action, but still get System Diagnostics. I bought this computer new from Amazon, it has never been configured by any kind of IT department, it is simply locking me out of the BIOS and boot order for unknown reasons. I do not have anything the computer came with, so I'd need a link to an ISO if your suggestion involves a disk. Ideally, there is some inane secret combination of button pushing and holding that will either allow me to change the boot order or boot directly from USB. Thanks in advance for your help.

Check in event viewer by typing eventvwr in search. Look in windows logs, application tab.

You are looking for critical errors (they have red in the left column) that have app hang, app crash, or anything relating to the problem.

When you find them pplease note the event ID and source code and tell us what they are.

Let us know if you need help with any of these

The Reliability and Performance Monitor found in Vista keeps a heap of data sets for response times, processes, configuration data, diagnostics, debug logs, registry keys and performance counters. This tool will help you diagnose windows errors, slow performance or anything else you would like it to help you track down.

1. Open the Start-Menu and search for Performance Monitor.
2. In the performance monitor there is a folder called "Data Collector Sets" found in the left open it and click "System"
3. Here you will find some default diagnostic tools to run on your vista machine, just right-click the name and click start, scroll down to the Reports folder to view your results.

You can also add your own customised monitors under the Data Collector sets folder for a more complete view of the systems performance handling, Just remember too many sets might slow your system down and vista allready runs a Reliability Monitor every hour.

This tool will point anyone in the right direction to solve issues they are having with vista or the hardware, Include the report in a support request and it can help diagnose the problem very quickly. Its proberly the most usefull feature found in vista.

Hello, I'm the process of trying to de-brick this EliteBook 8640p that was working just yesterday, but I decided it was time for a re-format.  I went into the BIOS settings and noticed an option called 'Safe Erase'... and I decided to perform it. After the process was complete, understandably there was no OS found. The next step (I thought) was to add bootable media (DVD-ROM or Flash Drive, I tried both) to install a new OS. After tweaking the 'Legacy Boot' settings by putting USB Flash Drive at the top, I rebooted -- and it didn't load from the removable media. I tried checking the BIOS settings again, but every time I press ESC, F9, etc. during the POST, it redirects me to 'system diagnostics', which has been extremely unhelpful since all it offers me is a few diagnostic scans (they all pass, by the way). I'm not ever able to get back to the BIOS settings. This would be day 2 of my adventure, yesterday I tried updating/reinstalling the BIOS using a Flash Drive, but the utilities provided by HP all crashed when they were about to create the BIOS update drive. I tried moving basically every .bin file I could find (there isn't a single Phoneix Bios file that I could find) onto a freshly-formatted (FAT32, 4MB block size, 2 GB capacity) Flash Drive. Booting normally with the flash drive in keeps bringing me back to the 'system diagnostics' screen, over and over again. Something quite odd happens when I try initiating the BIOS recovery routine with Win + B -- when ... OK, so I got this k00L, brand new Lenovo 12.5 in screen laptop with Win 7 Pro 64bit, i5 Quad 4 2.6gig, 6 gig DDR3 Ram... nice little portable machine.

But, I hate the crap that's on it that Lenovo put on there. It didn't come with just Windows, it has numerous manufacturer programs that I don't want on there.

So, I called Lenovo and gave them a song-n-dance about how I needed the Windows install discs in case I ever needed them (I got the guy to admit that a few years from now they will not support this thing anymore).

So, do you think the Windows install discs will install just Windows only being that these are the Lenovo install discs?

There are two other discs that are labeled "Recovery Media for Windows 7 Products", so I figured these are the ones that install all the Lenovo crap.

I just want straight Win 7 Pro 64 bit on there and then I'll build my software collection as I want.

So whaddya think... should I try using the Lenovo install discs, or plan of buying a retail version of Win 7 Pro 64 bit? (I'm buying a larger HD and will leave the OE drive unchanged so I can always put that back if needed.)

Also, I found a Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit "Promotional Disc" from 2009 (X15-60567-01)... could this be installed and run as normal?

Advice from resident experts would be appreciated as I've got just enough knowledge to screw some stuff up but still have fun doing it!

You can get very good results from just going into the Control Panel > Programs list and uninstalling all of the unwanted software, then running CCleaner to clean up any stragglers. I just completed that job on a new laptop for someone. You can get the system pretty clean by doing the job thoroughly.

Just be sure you know what utilities are actually drivers (google is your friend). I always considered the Intel Management Engine Interface to be an unnecessary utility until I saw that removing it resulted in an unknown device in Device Manager. Even so, reinstalling it from the driver folder on the laptop fixed that little glitch.

You can clean install W7 from any installation media and then just use your Product Key from the sticker on the bottom of the laptop to activate Windows. You own one license for W7 on that laptop so re-installation is a common method to get a truely clean system.

Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version
Clean Install Windows 7

Do not use the Lenovo recovery disks. That will only reinstall the exact same system you are looking at right now.

I hope this is the correct place to post - did not see a E series in the ThinkPad Board... I am getting an error when trying to update to Lenovo System Update version 5.07.0065.I recently upgraded the computer form Windows 7 to Windows 10. Trying to make sure my drivers were up-to-date I ran across the newer version of the System Update app. When I tried to install, it gave me this error:The old version is now none existant in Programs and Features. Any ideas? All are appreciated!  Thanks.

HI!!! I have the above mentioned ntb. I noticed that the Lenovo Settings is saying that there is a problem with the Lenovo System Interface Foundation, the same goes with Lenovo Vantage, and it provided me with the possibility to update it. I downloaded the offered file, the instalation runs without a problem, I restart the computer but the problem with the LSIF was still there. I uninstaled Lenovo Settings and Vantage, and now I am not able to install it again. When I want to get Lenovo Vantage from the store, I am receiving and error message, that it canīt be installed, error code: 0x80073CFB. Thx for an advice how to deal with this. Ondrej

Hello everyone! I have a LenovoY40-80 laptop and had it for 3 years. Around the 2nd year, I noticed that one of the fans had been acting up being noisy. I couldn't bring it to any computer shops or have it looked at as I had a really busy schedule back then. Now at its 3rd year, the device finally died as it will no longer turn on.  I've tested the hard drive in the device and it's fine. I was wondering, where do I go from here? I've had Lenovo devices in the past and I don't think I've ever had a laptop from Lenovo that just lasted a mere 3 years. I've also took care of the device quite well by placing it over a notebook cooler. No water damage nor was it ever dropped.  I checked if Lenovo has service centers in Canada and they're just 3rd party repair shops. Does Lenovo have some sort of trade-in system or am I out of luck and just better off salvaging parts from the laptop??? Would like everyone's advice and opinions.

I have a Lenovo laptop.
Turn it on, use it, all OK.
Then without warning, it will just turn off.
Turn it on again and it shuts off within a minute or 2.

I suspect over heating somewhere. I've tried opening and cleaning the fan. I don't think I did a good enough job. I didn't take out the main fan, I opened up enough to expose and got a hoover to suck. It didn't suck anything I could see! I tried gently scraping the white dust off and then hoovering again.

Turned on laptop. All OK!! 30 minutes later - same thing.

Bottom of laptop appears to be hot.

Any ideas on what I should be doing?

Thanks!

I am presently researching to purchase a laptop for my wife at Christmas who is a teacher thus she will need to access the internet, do Office work, grading, emails, research, etc., but no gaming at all.

Will be running 7 64 OS, with 4 gigs of RAM, and hopefully a 7200 rpm hd. Leaning towards the i5 processor.

The Thinkpad Edge is part of Lenovo's excellent T Series but somewhat less expensive. Looking at current configurations it seems it will deliver what I am looking for but I know nothing of the quality build.

Would love to hear back from people who have used this series and/or from ITs who repair laptops for their insights.

Thanks!

Hi all, recently I bought Lenovo t440. How long should last battery (s) in this laptop in normal or power saving use with screen at 65-80 %? I know this laptop have two batteries , and both of them are 3 cell right ? Extended battery have 6 cell, which I don't have, but might I would  buy it . I noticed my both batteries last max 3,5 hours max 4. This is from I what know - slightly short.  Before I buy some of this batteries I would like to know which one is maybe fault, or worst of them. Maybe is faulty inside battery, maybe plug in one.  My battery indicator in win 8.1 shows both bAtteries ... It seems windows recognize capacity or remaining storage from both of batteries in same time,or, should I say, it seems my laptop is running on power from both of them in real time... Maybe laptop should drain batteries one by one ? Ok, if this is normal, let's skip it     main question is still, how to check each batterie health / or one by one in mY T440  to see which one is maybe faulty or less good, for potential replacement ?   thank you all
