Upside down display (180 degrees) when when hdmi cable is plug in

Q: Upside down display (180 degrees) when when hdmi cable is plug in

I arose last morning to find my display upside down 180 degees from normal ..I use a hdmi cable to display my desktop onto my big screen tv. When I disconnect the hdmi, every thing returns. I plug the cable in its turn upside down.. By the way for about a year the lower portion of my display was distorted. Something reset itself and I don’t have that problem anymore. But now I’m unable to use my big screen, thru my hdmi cable without it flipping both the laptop and tv display It appears to be an issue with my lap top hdmi port,as I tried a new cable. Please help with suggestions
Thank you in advance

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

i have Asus X450JF with windows 8.1 pro 64bit. everytime i turn on the laptop, and i plug the HDMI cable, there is no sound on my TV even in the playback devices. i unplug and replug the cable then the sound appeared on my TV. i already tried many drivers (from intel and the asus manufactured drivers) but i still to plug twice the cable to get the sound on my TV.
is this a bug or there is something wrong with the HDMI?

I just purchased an adapter plug that allows me to connect my Lenovo/IBM thinkpad (T420) to my HDTV by plugging the HDMI cord into my TV and the other end to this adapter plug which converts the HDMI cable into a male plug which fits into my display port (there is no HDMI port on this model computer). It worked, but now I can't remove the adapter plug...it's stuck in the laptop display port. I do not know if the problem is caused by the male adapter plug or the female jack in the computer, but they're locked together now.

I have previously read review comments (on these HDMI/display port adapter plugs) mentioning this jamming happening on more than a couple occasions, but I don't recall any resolutions being mentioned except to break off (and destroy) the plug and possibly damage the display port as well. I called Lenovo tech support but they said I'd have to mail the computer to them to get it fixed. I'd prefer avoiding that if possible even though my warranty is still in effect and it would be of no cost to me.....just time lost without a computer.

I'd greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who may be aware of how to resolve this problem (and also how to avoid it happening again) without doing damage to either the plug or especially the computer display port.

Thanks for your consideration in any case....

Purchased a HP Pavilion 15t for my son for Xmas and trying hooking up a Dell U2412M as his main gaming (2nd) display but Windows (10) does not recognize it. I set the input source on the display to both "Auto Detect" and "Display Port", but neither had any effect. No matter what I attempt, the system does not detect the Dell display.I have a brand new HDMI to DP cable, but I have no good way to test if the cable itself is bad, but I'd like to think that is not the problem.I have searched the internet for hours, but have not found a solution that has worked. Sound familar to anyone?I have a Nvidia 960M and I have recently updated all the software/drivers.

I have a problem that when I use either of my HD 1080p TVs,
the desktop seems to be cropped by about 40 pixels on all four sides of the screen.
It happens on both my Sony Bravia LCD TV and my Sharp Aquos TV.
I do not think it is a driver or Windows problem per se, as if I plug the HDMI into
my 1080p ASUS monitor, all is fine (all pixels are shown). On the Sony, I can also
adjust Horizontal Center up to 5 pixels but of coarse I lose a pixel on the right for
every pixel I gain on the left.

Therefore, I think the display is actually something like 1880 x 1040
instead of 1920 x 1080. While this is not a problem with pictures, it is a big
problem with a Windows Desktop, as the Start Menu is hard to use.

Is there any simple way in Windows 7 to tell it not to use the edges of the screen?

A:Display cropped on 1080p TV using HDMI cable?

This is the answer I found using
"Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel" Other graphic
drivers will probably have a completely different terminology.

OK. I finally found the setting you were talking about under
<Right-click the desktop> / Graphic Properties ... / Advanced Mode - OK
Under "Custom Resolution" and answering yes to the very scary
warning about how this could cause your computer to blow up.
I set width 1920 height 1080 refresh rate 59 color depth 32
Underscan percentage 20% (I left interlace off and Timing GTF)
I think (hope) "Timing Standard" is ignored using HDMI.
I then added the Custom resolution 1862 x 1048, 32 bit, 59 Hz
I then switched to "General Settings", Select the "Resolution" as
the custom one of 1862x1048 AND set "Scaling" to "Center Image".
The last bit is very important as none of the other settings seem to have
an affect unless "Center Image" is chosen. It still Chops off
some pixels around the edged but Underscan percentage 20% was the
highest I could set when I apparently needed 30-40%. But at least
now I can see the speaker control and the time.
Thanks everyone for their help.

Hello, sorry if this is in the wrong place I'm new here. Anyways, I bought a brand new out of the package HDMI cable today to hook up my laptop to my TV. The cable fits into both my laptop and TV and its on the right input setting on the TV but when I get on my laptop it doesn't recognize 2 monitors. If it helps to know, I have windows 7 on an HP 15 (I don't know if that's the exact name of my laptop but I did buy it brand new from Walmart in 2014) and my TV is a flatscreen Vizio. Anyone know what I may be doing wrong? I really could use the help!!

A:2nd display screen wont show up. HDMI cable.

When you click the down arrow to the right of 'Display' in your screen shot there is no other entry, right?

Maybe there is a problem with the cable or with the laptop's HDMI or the cable is not connected quite securely. In the two years since you bought the laptop the HDMI port could have gained some dust or corrosion. Blow gently into the opening to dislodge any dust. Connect/disconnect the cable several times to clean off any possible corrosion.

Try Restarting or powering up the laptop with the cable already connected.

It is very unfortunate that the X1 has the power inlet on the left hand side and not at the back of the device, as with the T430s. But as most desktop setups do have power outlets build in the table top or at the back of the table it would be best for cable stress to have at least a 90degrees plug that allows the cable to go to the back and not stick on the side. Is there a (compatible) power supply with 90 degree plug available? Or can I buy compatible plugs at a hardware or electronics store?

A:Power plug 90 degrees

Presumably the power jack was relocated to the side of the X1C in order to allow the display panel to lay down flat with the main system unit. I agree that the side placement of the power jack is therefore less than ideal for the reasons you gave.

I have seen right angle adapters on eBay and Amazon for the previous round power plugs, e.g. BiXPower LC80 Right Angle 7.9 x 5.5mm Connector Converter for IBM / Lenovo Laptop Power Adapters but not (yet?) for the new rectangular plugs.

I have an HP Pavilion Elite HPE machine, Windows 7, Radeon HD 5700 Series graphics card, connected to an Acer monitor and HDTV. Here's details on my setup: My Equipment | Building a Home Theater With Your Office PC

My problem is that even though my HDMI cable's plugged into my Radeon graphics card, sometimes the PC only recognizes the Acer monitor and not the receiver (that's connected to the HDMI cable and my HDTV). So I end up having to plug and unplug the HDMI cable several times (sometimes 10+) before it recognizes the HDTV/receiver connection.

Is there any setting that would favor the card/PC recognizing the HDMI cable more frequently? I've heard it's a handshake issue, and that maybe using a different type of cable would help. But wondering if there's a setting I could use to help before switching out cables.

Thanks for any help!

The problem you descibe sounds like you didnt make a deciated screen for your hardware

it will reconize any HDMI over a VGA first off

When you set up dual monitors the best thing is to have them both on at the same time and see which one will actually pick up the display

after this going into your settings resolution from there it should show you the monitors you have if you want the acer to the the main choose it and apply it

Tell her to try pressing CTRL, ALT and the Up Arrow keys simultaneously. That will fix it if its a GMA 950 powered laptop.

Edit- Well, thats a general statement but those are the default hotkeys for display rotation that come with the GMA 950 Drivers. If it doesn't do anything, next port of call is Control Panel, and look for the graphics settings. Rotation should be controllable from there, and that will apply to most all graphics cards.

My desktop and all programs have been rotated 180 degrees in my Win XP (SP3) system using an eVGA nVidia 7900GS graphics card and I do not have a clue as to how this happened. When I shut my system down, everything was just fine. When I powered back up again, the display screen was rotated 180 degrees - everything is upside down. I shut my system down using the keyboard commands of Windows key then 'u', and then "u" one last time. I have been using this shut-down routine for months now. It may be possible that I inadvertently hit a wrong key but I don't know.I have heard of two other systems to which this has happened, but I do not know the fix. My hope is that this is a known occurrence - toddlers playing with the keyboard or inadvertent keystrokes - and that someone here on this forum knows the fix or can direct me to a fix.I'd really appreciate some help. I cannot find any documentation about this problem.Peace,

A:Orientation of display rotated 180 degrees

I had the same thing happen today. I found this answer and it worked.

If you are facing a 90/180 degrees rotation issue with your displayed screen, this can be either due to a problem with your graphic card or a wrong manipulation of the hot keys of your keyboard. This problem can be easily fixed if you follow the steps below:
Solution 1

Step 1: With the Desktop screen displayed in front of you, use your mouse?s left-click to access the ?Graphic Properties? option
Step 2: Select the ?Rotation? Tab
Step 3: Uncheck the box labeled ?Enable Rotation?

Solution 2

Step 1: With the Desktop screen displayed in front of you, use your mouse?s left-click to access the ?Properties? option
Step 2: Select the ?Parameters? tab and click the ?Advanced? option
Step 3: From the displayed list, choose the name corresponding to your graphic card model
Step 4: Select the ?Rotate? option and change it to 0 degrees or to the ?normal? mode.

Solution 3
You can also make use of the hotkeys to change the rotation of your screen Press CTRL+ALT Gr+Up/Down/Left/Right arrows
Solution 4
If none of the above solutions has solved your problem, this might be due to a bad configuration of your graphic card. I will strongly suggest you to contact a computer technician to fix this issue.

Hi! Need some help here.

It didn't change as well when I re-open the lid of the machine. pressing Ctrl, Alt, and the arrow keys can rotate and flip over the display. You may also have accidentally bumped the up arrow while using Ctrl-Alt-Del. also going back to a day or two before the problem occoured might help out as well.....another thing, if anyone else has access to your computer, there are several joke virus's that do this (as a real bad, and ever-so-tasteless joke) you could always run a Housecall online virus scan (free) by TrendMicro.... just check the box to auto clean. If you use Internet Explorer, you will be required to download and install an Active X object before you can scan, If using Firefox, or Opera, just having Java (jre) is all that is required.

I've been the victim of the "upside down" display a few times, sometimes even tipped 90 degrees one way or the other. I do know how to fix it, however...My question is, is there a way to prevent it from happening at all? If I'm in a fullscreen game and I end up doing it, when I fix it, I cannot alt+tab out of the game window without closing it, and after I close it I have to reset my desktop resolution to what it was beforehand (it automatically sets it to the screen resolution the game runs at).I apologize if this has been covered, but I searched and found no relevant material...Thank you in advance!

A:Upside Down Display Prevention?

Sorry for the double post, however, I have solved the issue and wish to share information on how I went about doing it.The system I have uses a SiS (Silicon Integrated Systems) IGP graphics controller model either SiS661FX or SiS760 (both are compatible with this solution). So this fix is mainly for users with this graphics controller.Their download website: http://www.sis.com/download/Select your Operating System, the type of driver you need (for this solution, obviously one of the graphics drivers), and then your graphics controller's chipset. Go through the license agreement, then once you agree you can select a download location from a list of countries, and once that's done it should begin download. When you finish downloading, open it with WinZip or WinRAR, and extract it (to desktop is easy enough, but this is at the discretion of the user). Run the Setup utility. It may ask if you wish to uninstall your current driver. It is advisable that you do, as this will make the install of the new driver cleaner. It will prompt you to restart, this is also advised. Once you restart, rerun the setup utility. Select "Custom Install" and scroll down and check the box next to "Screen Rotation." (I am not sure if this step is necessary. This allows you to still change your screen rotation, but it needs to be done through the utility program it installs with the driver). Once it installs, you'll need to restart again, and you should be finish... Read more

Hi, I have been experiencing a couple of problems in the past week.

For a couple of times when I was browsing on the internet, probably was using the mouse or pressing the left/right arrow buttons (definitely the control button for sure) and all of a sudden the screen display turned upside down.
There have also been 2 occasions when I wasn't using the mouse or pressing any key and my IE7 switched to another tab.

I ran AVG Free, Spyware Doctor, and Spybot in both regular mode and safe mode, nothing was detected.

The second problem is, a week ago, Spyware doctor detected an "Application.Keystroke Spy" (unvise32.exe), I had it fixed. Nothing showed up again in the following few days. Then it showed up again. Since I hadn't visited any suspicious sites I suspect that the thread wasn't really removed.

Nothing has been detected on AVG and Spybot either.

I am using Vista Home, Toshiba laptop.

Attached is my Hijack this log. Could anyone kindly help me please? Many thanks!!

I'm investigating an issue which just started happening (Sunday) on a customer's computer.
When they turn it on the display is upside down (also the mouse is reversed). Unfortunately I'm not on site, but I'm having them check their graphics card options etc. (NEC 1545V on WinXP Home (Dell), graphics card unknown at this time assume to be Intel ####)

Tried the Alt-CTL - UP Arrow (on some graphic controllers - Should restore up display),
Tried the Alt-CTL - Down Arrow (on some graphic controllers - Should reverse the display)
Tried Alt-Ctl-F12 to get to Graphics options and turn off rotation.

Any new viruses out there affecting display adapters?

A:Solved: Upside Down Display?!

WE tried and confirmed a couple of things.
1) Ctrl-Alt-F12 - select Rotation Tab and play with the various options (No Change)
2) Ctrl-Alt-Up arrow should change the display to normal (No Change)
Ctrl-Alt-Down arrow should change the display upside down (No Change)
Note the direction of the arrow is the direction the display should be
3) The problem could be with the video card.
Find out what it is:
Click Start / Right-Click "My Computer" / Properties / Choose Hardware
Tab / Choose Device Manager /
Click on "Display Adapters" "+" and record what it is name is there.
Should be something like "Intel #### ###" Graphics Controller
4) Also try this.
Right-Click anywhere on your desktop and choose "Graphic Options"
Choose "Rotation Tab" and disable "Rotation" (uncheck)

I have Windows 7 home premium and the movies are displayed in quicktime. I tried WMP but there was no difference: upside down.

Hello
Please help me. I recently bought Dell system with Windows Vista Basic. Today when i logged on I touched something that caused the start button and task bar to move to the top of the screen. I tried dragging it back to My windows Vista the bottom with my mouse but wasnt successful. I kept pushing different arrows on the screen and eventually a window opened that gave me the option of rotating the bar to various degrees, so i picked 160 degrees, and suddenly the screen went black and when it turned back on the entire display screen and all the icons and tool bars are completely upside down on the screen.
Ive tried to find that button to undo whatever i did, but it is difficult to read upside down. Can anyone please tell me how to restore the display screen and all the start up icons right side up. I just want to change it back as it was when i got it. not upside down.

Hi all, I’m very much a novice here and would greatly appreciate any help.

I have been using my HP Presario(Windows Vista) notebook with my HDTV.
Up to now I have had no issues with this until today.
When I plug into the Monitor port on the notebook both the display on the TV and the notebook are upside down.
This happened today and I think I hit a sequence of keys that caused this isses, but I’m not sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fintan

I inadvertently slid my hand sideways, swiping across the bottom row of the keyboard, which turned the mousepad on, and apparently hit some of the function keys, causing the entire display screen to rotate 90 degrees, so that the top of the screen is up against the left side of the monitor. the whole display screen, background and all. Can anyone tell me how to rotate it back? Thanks. Hp pavilion dv6 notebook PC, windows 7.

Hello quick question so i'm clear and to see what you would suggest.

I have a new upgrade LG 55 inch 4k TV connected to my PC via HDMI to GTX970 I've read this TV supports audio also via the same HDMI cable plugged in to my video card. I'm a huge gamer.

Right now I have a X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card connected to a 4.1 Logitech setup w/sub. I've been using this for years and it works great for surround sound when available and EAX is always a plus SO whats my benefit to 86 the 4.1 and just go HDMI?

In that case I lose the 4 speaker setup correct and just use audio from the TV?? I can't see the advantage for this unless i'm missing something big. I don't use SPDIF output or the Dolby digital or DTS encoder from the card I assume all that you need a receiver.

Can I use HDMI output for audio and STILL use my 4.1 speakers? I don't want to invest in a receiver or anything like that at this point. What would you do if you were me? i'm at work now but I read if I go into the sound properties/playback devices I can choose HDMI output? I'm curious to see how that works.

thx!

A:HDMI cable for audio or keep my 4.1 w/soundcard? need help w/HDMI

Windows only allows one default audio playback device. e.g. HDMI or Speakers (your sound card). HDMI audio is generated on a sound chip in the Video card. You don't have all the options you do with a Sound card.

If I tape together tightly HDMI and USB cables for a 15 foot run, will they cause any interference?
I know they are digital signals so I think should not. But doing this does cause a herring bone interference with analog vga cable.

A:bundling HDMI cable together with USB 2.0 cable will be interferences?

It depends on the quality of the cables insulation and shielding.
The only way I know how to find out for sure is try it.
