I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer told me it was time to update my graphics driver which I did. however I ended up trying to install the driver that was already on my pc as it was up to date. Subsequently my graphics driver fails to work. I have uninstalled it and tried to reinstall but I get the message "error code 28 access denied". further more I performed several system restore and each time I role back, mozilla firefox fails to work as does internet explorer, they both crash. (I therefore have no internet access as I'm on a resnet and need to log in to use the internet ) Advice anyone please.

Whenever I try to log in, just after typing in my password, rather than loading windows and everything, I just get a black screen with an error message. The error message says:
An error has occurred
You can also contact Acer by phone to help resolve this problem

Details:
Code 0xC0000022
Description: {Access Denied}
A process has requested access to an object, but has not been granted those access rights.

The only option the error message gives me is to "close" or to x out of the error message.
Both of those options immediately log me out of windows and back to the user screen asking for a password.

The only time I can proceed any further is if I go into safe mode (without networking, and the error message doesn't pop up in safe mode).
I can also click on the acer link on the error message and connect to the internet. However, I don't have access to anything but the browser. The desktop is just a blank screen with the error message.

In the past I've had issues with my control panel (whenever I'd click it, a blank window would pop up and immediately close. So I could not access my control panel).
Based on suggestions online, I've toyed with the "Software Licensing Service" and "UI Notification Network" under "services.msc" which is typed into the search bar in the start/windows menu.

By suggestion online, I was told to stop both services and restart them both. After stopping them both, I was unable to start th... Read more

Hi,

This issue is most likely caused by the firewall or anti-virus on the Windows XP computer. I suggest that you disable the security programs in Windows XP as a test.

If the issue persists after you disable the anti-virus and firewall, please let me know if you have enabled Simple File Sharing and the Guest account in Windows XP, or you are using the same username and password to access the computer.

Please note that if you enable Simple File Sharing, the Guest account needs to be enabled when you would like to access this computer. Otherwise, if you disable Simple File Sharing, please launch "gpedit.msc" in "Start"->"Run", locate to Computer configuration/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/User Rights Assignments, in the left pane file the key "Access this computer from the network". Make sure that the account you are using to access the Windows XP computer or its group is in the list. Also make sure that it is not in the list in the key "Deny access to this computer from the network".

Hope it helps.

Hello everyone. I am in dire need of assistance, please.

My computer has recently lost wi-fi/router abilities, from research it appears to be the Diagnostic Policy Service that is the culprit. I have tried every fix imaginable, to no avail:

1. I get the Error Code 5: Access Denied when attempting to manually restart from the Services menu.

2. I have edited the regedit parameters in other recommendations to the HKEY.

3. I have run Windows Fixit Troubleshooter.

4. I have run Tweaking.

NOTHING works. I am out of options. Could it possibly be a hardware/component issue? The system in question is several years old, and used heavily.

I have no other avenues except a full system wipe, and with the age of the terminal I am not even sure that would solve it.

I would be eternally grateful for any options.

Nagash.

Hey guys,
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
I can not start Windows Firewall, Diagnostic Policy Service, Diagnostic Service Host, or Diagnostic System Host. When I try and start them manually in services.msc, it gives me Error Code 5: Access denied. Both BFE and Windows Firewall Authorization driver are running. I am logged in as an administrator, and I have already allowed full control of these services for the Administrator accounts and the user "SYSTEM" in Regedit. If you need more information, please let me know. This is my first post, so I don't know if there is any other information that you need. Thanks!

A:Windows Firewall service will not start, Error Code 5: Access Denied

Use Diagnose and fix Windows firewall service problem automatically -

OR

Go to BFE in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BFE

and then click on Add and typed in the space "Everyone" and save the changes. Then go to services.msc and start up the BFE service .

So I am having a rather unusual issue here....

I have been fixing up a computer which was loaded with malware/viruses. I have run the below software programs to help clean up the system:
- Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
- Super Anti-Spyware
- HiJack This

After cleaning it up, I am running into one additional issue which is flagging my system as not being genuine

The system was purchased with a valid license key for Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

My thought here is that there is still some rootkit or rogue malware running which is preventing me access to this file. It is preventing access to other system files such as the hosts file, the ability to start/stop services through the services.msc console, etc.

Couple of things I have tried to resolve this:
- Microsoft support KB article 2008385 = https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2008385
- Disabled Plug N Play service within registry through CMD command
- Enabled Administrator account to attempt activation

After attempting these steps and performing a reboot, I am still unable to get around this unusual activation error. Please help!

Hi,
i have two computers, my main desktop and a laptop. For my work i sync my files between the two over my home network using Free File Sync (ffs).

For some reason ffs will sync across from my laptop to my desktop but not from my desktop to laptop. All the sync settings are set to copy both ways, ffs is running as admin and i am the only user of both computers so they are both running as admin.
I have set up homegroup between the two and i can easily copy any file type between both computers both ways. Permissions as far as i can tell are set to allow home groups, admins and all users.
But ffs still will only sync one way from my desktop to my laptop... any ideas? (i am given the: windows error code 5: access denied message whenever i click 'sync')

many thanks

Hi. I was trying to install Capture One - a photo editor. As I install, I get a message
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.arw
RegCreateKeyEx failed code 5
Access is denied.

If I ignore this message I get the same message for .cr2 .crw .dng .erf
I aborted at this point.

If I use regedit, and navigate to this point, using Run as administrator for regedit, if I right-click .arw I get a message
.arw cannot be opened. An error is preventing this key from being opened.
Details: Access is denied.

I can successfully right-click .aps .art .asa etc
but I again get the problem on .cr2 .crw and so on

Just in case this information is useful - I have never been able to get Windows Media Player working successfully, except by regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll but WMP fails to work again after rebooting (no error message).

Thanks for any help that you can give me.

Norman

A:RegCreateKeyEx failed code 5. Access is denied.

This sounds like corruption of the hive - you *may* be able to correct some of it, but there's almost inevitably going to be some that you either won't find, or can't fix.
As a result, I think your best option is going to be a repair install.

An error occurred while trying to rename a file in the destination directory:

Click retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended), or abort to cancel installation.

If I retry, same error
If I ignore, same message, but different file name.

This has happened now on 3 bits of software on the same PC, however, they all work fine on other PCs.

Alright so I have been trying to use two USB devices on my computer and neither are working. When I plug either in (One is an 8gb emtec Flash Drive and the other is a BEHRINGER Xenyx 2442 Sound Mixer) to the USB port, the drivers attempt to install normally, as they would do for first time use. The installation continues to tell me that the installation has failed with Code:28 and that access is denied. I have other USB devices (A different flash drive and a wireless mouse) that I have been using for a long time, these new ones just don't seem to work. I have tested the 8gb Emtec and the USB Mixer on other computers (Mac and PC) and they both work fine on Windows 7, just not my computer. I am running on an Alienware M11x. Let me know if you need any computer specs.

So far I have tried taking owner ship of the USB registry key, and doing a system restore going back from a few critical updates.

Nothing has worked so far and any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks all!

These pop up errors keep coming up even when my computer is just sitting there. I think it's linked to visual basic command line compiler. I'm thinking it's either a worm or that visual basic is malfunctioning and I should reinstall? Then the window changed and only gave me the option to close the program. I waited 30 mins before I finally did close the program and then combofix seemed to complete normally and generate its log file.

I think that combofix changes folder permissions when it is run and some of mine did not get changed back because after combofix finished, I tried to install a program update. I reveived the following error:

Unable to execute file in the temporary directory. Setup aborted. Error 5: Access is denied.

I have never had this error before running Combofix, I am not blaming the program. I know that sometimes "stuff" just happens. Does anyone know if Combofix changes folder permissions? If it does, how can I get them back to the default permissions.

I have uninstalled combofix as per the instructions on bleeping computer and used the system restore point that combofix generated before running, but I still have the same problem. I can right click on the setup file and run it as administrator, but I have never had to do that before.

Anyone have any suggestions?

A:Error 5: Access is denied

Something has tampered with your User Profile Settings - System error 5 is an Privileges error you may receive this error if you do not have the rights to edit the Certain file/folder ... etc,

It is most commonly seen in Command Prompt when Users do not have permission to edit or Run certain commands

could you please create a new Administrator User and try what you have done without the Need to run it as administrator

Many thanks,
Josh

Booting up my Windows Vista Home Proffesional My WIFI would not connect, after a few minutes I realised that DHCP service and the Diagnositic service was not started.

However when I try and start any of there services I am shown "Error 5: Access is Denied" However with any other service I can start and stop them fine.

Im thinking it is something to do with these services loging into the Local Service account and maybe this account has lost privlages.

I have tried system restore multiple times back to many different dates where the system was working correctly.

Thanks,
Ashley

Hi AshleyM. . .

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista!

I would suggest that you try to start the questioned services via an Elevated level. Perform the following:

START | type services.msc into the Start Search box | right click on same | select Run as Administrator | The Services console should appear

Please let me know how you make out.

I'm running Windows 7 x64 bit and over the last couple of days every 15-20 minutes I get an Error 5:access denied message for visual basic command line compiler. how do i fix this problem? i'm not really good with computers so the easiest way of doing this would be much appreciated.

A:Error 5;access denied

Hi Minnesota1, welcom to Sevenforums

I had this yesterday with a package of other problems.
Can you explain more about the issue? What type of environment your in, what user rights you have, where the program is running from?
A first suggestion would be to right click on the application, go to the compatibility tab, and select 'run as administrator'

Running Xp Pro sp2
While searching thru the forum I saw one or two other access denied postings. They all knew the program they were working with. I don't know what I did.
The other day I reinstalled my HP printer and camera. Decided to go to msconfig startup, and uncheck them did not need them to run all the time. A day or two before I downloaded a program called cloned cd 42.02 and left the start up alone. While in startup I decided to uncheck all unneeded programs. Received this error: Access denied error returned while attempting to change a service. Youmay need to log on as adminstratr to make the specified changes. Well, I am the administor.

As my name states I am not a techie so I decided to go to system restore and restore to a point before any of these were installed. My system restore was turned off. Do not remember ever turning it off. So back to msconfig and tried to delete and after restarting every uncheck I got rid of all the run in the back programs. But, still get the message.

Tried to change name of administrator still denied access. Ran in normal mode and safe mode.

Deleted the program cloned cd Reinstalled program. Everything else seems to run great.

Can this hurt the computer if I dont get rid of it.

very but hopeful you will help

Try booting in safe mode and see what accounts you have in there. Check in control panel, user accounts and also on the boot sequence it should tell you there.

I am still having problems with my Windows Installer!! I clicked on start then control panel>then clicked on Administrative tools>then component services>

I seem to be getting the same error message for some of the other services too. Here is a list of all the services that stopped, maybe someone out there can look at these and maybe help me out here: Application Management, Indexing Service, COM +System Application, Logical Disk Manager Ad..., Logical Disk Manager, Dns Client, Human Interface Device, Http SSL, Distributed Transaction..., Net Logon, NT

Try rebooting in Safe Mode and go in as the Administrator account. If you can get to start the Windows Installer service in there it will be a case of trawling through the Help & Support menu under a search heading of "Permissions" to get your own username account granted all the powers you may ever need.

When I first log on, and the desktop comes up a message saying at the top "Error" and below that "Access Denied" comes up in a little box. If you click ok it will keep coming back about 10 to 15 times and will then cease. This will only happen on a limited account, not my admin rights account. I've checked if any abnormal processes are going but see none. Norton 2005 says that there are no viruses.... what going on?!?!

A:Error Access Denied

You may have an account that cannot be accessed by a limited account in the "all users" startup menu. Limited users cannot access any programs that write to the registry.Download Startup Inspector which is much easier to use than msconfig as it identifies startups by the programs they are related to.Startup Inspectorhttp://www.windowsstartup.com/download.phpDisable all unnecessary programs from starting. (click on the all startup items at the top of the list on the left)Be careful not to disable your firewall or av ap.You might like Startup Monitor as well (on the same page). It notifies you and requires your permission when any ap tries to add itself to your start menu.

However file access (i.e. installation) is always denied upon double-click, only the right-click run--> as administrator works. Double-click should work, too.

Any suggestions?

I've looked for an answer to this challenge but so far the best I can do is joono's posting of 13 July 2006 http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/482888-installing-xp-service-pack2.html?highlight=joono that ended in the conclusion that the offending copy of XP was pirated. I know for a fact that my copy is legal, I got the discs it direct from microsoft, so that should not be an issue.

I did the SP2 install thing and after about 20 minutes I got an 'Access is denied' error after which the removal wizard unravelled everything and I was back to square one. After a bit of research I came across http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873148, which looked promising, and followed the very clear instructions as far as step 2.e. but I cannot find an error that looks like the one illustrated. Ok, I have a quick question regarding the admin. tools on the windows XP system. There are three accounts on my computer, one for myself, my brother, and my family. My brother made it so that my account has no admin/user abilities whatsoever, and when I try to change it, it gives me the error. This happens when I try to download things as well, and it's very irritating. Is there ANY way to get around this? No, I cannot simply go on my brother's account and change it because my brother's acct has a pw. Is there any other way? TY.

I recently upgraded my entire computer (motherboard, harddrive, the works). I kept both of my old drives, and installed a new one. One of my old hard drives was converted to an external (not enough room in the case).

I'm trying to access My Documents on my (now) external hard drive, but whenever I try to look at these files, it tells me that access is denied.

Any ideas/suggestions as to why this is and what I can do about it?

I hope someone out there can help,as this is my last resort.

Whenever I am attempting to install anything that I have downloaded, I receive this error message. "Error-Access is Denied" // (no error number)

I have scoured the internet, and have tried everything that is out there. Turning off UAC, Running as (and from) administrator, taking ownership of a lot of different files/folders, turning off any/all firewalls, enabled the hidden administrator account and tried from there, as well as running CHKDSK and SFC with no problems found. I have restored to my earliest restore point as well, unfortunately it must not be early enough.

I hope someone can help me, my last option of reinstalling Windows 7 would be difficult, as I have lost my disc.

Thanks a lot for any help

Hi all,

I got me an Acer Iconica w3..... New little 8 inch tablet.
Setup like any other machine.  Connected to my Windows home server or Windows Server 2012 essentials.  Tried to run a backup using the server connector.  Backup failed with the subject VSS error in the application logs.  I also tried
the built in backup Windows 8 backup under control panel labeled Windows 7 File history system image.  No dice with either.

Investigating the error, I found some tests to confirm permission - all passed.  Trusting the error message to be accurate (permissions problem) I see direction to make sure the VSS service is started (I started and changed to automatic) and to grant
explicit access in the registry. I also see suggestions to grant the Network Service explicit rights to the computer using dcomcnfg.   No dice.
I've flattened and re-loaded.  Actually on a second machine with a newer image from Acer (first machine had a bad microSD socket that would not eject).  2nd machine exhibits the same symptoms - failing to backup
Compared settings to another Windows 8 machine - VSS service by default is manual and no explicit permission grants were in place.  e.g. changes above were unnecessary but made just the same as part of trouble-shooting
Clearly there is something more fundamental that I'm missing?  All other machines are running Windows 8 Pro or Enterprise.  This machine is running Windows 8 b... Read more
