I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

cmd.exe application error - application was unable to start correctly (0x0000142). Click ok to close the application

Anyone know why it happened?

I got this error when I tried to restart to install an update. However, in windows update, it showed I had nothing to update. There was the little yellow shield by the shut down button to indicate it was installing an update when I would shutdown.

I rebooted fine, and CMD works fine. Is it possible windows thought it had to install something, and the installer had already installed the update (I went onto windows update earlier myself to install the windows and silverlight updates) and it bugged because maybe it had to use cmd to execute the update or something?

A:cmd.exe application error - application was unable to start correctly

It seems to be happening again, but only when I shutdown when explorer is open. I tried and tested his multiple times. It has only happened after the new silverlight update and kb 30247777 (sorry if the number is wrong) update.

What is causing this?

It was advised from the Microsoft website that I ran ERROR CHECK, along with "disk cleanup" & "defrag" analysis, to see if the machine needs to be defragged.I went along with the advised procedures by Microsoft, because it was said that the computer would run faster. I've been doing the ones that worked, defrag analysis, disk clean up & CC Cleaner. Along with those maintenance tasks, I update all the definitions on the malware software. With the aforementioned error message problem with the lap top, I also have a problem with Adobe Reader (listed in another topic), that I can't uninstall it, without getting a 'Error 1402' message. What steps are you taking to run the check?

That error seems to indicate a hard drive problem, which is why it was suggested to run chkdsk /r.

Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter. Type Y in new screen and hit Enter. Reboot the system. The command should execute, before booting into XP.

Hi There

I have been given a friends computer to fix. The way he described it, it sounded like it was full of Malware etc, however I haven't been able to start it up as I get the following message appearing when I power it up.

userinit.exe - Application Error The Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click ok...

This message appears twice, I then get the wallpaper of the computer up, but nothing else, no icons or task bar. I have tried a wee trip to safe mode but don't get anywhere from that either, just the same message.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Cheers

Well to no avail did any of the programs load...so I had noticed that when I tried going into user accounts to see if this account had admin. privileges the user accounts never loaded. Well...it seems to me (I may be misreading) but that system belonged to a unnamed 3d party, which had the operating license.

If I had found such system, the first thing I would have done is wipe it clean (because I don't like using someone else's data which they've decided to trash) and to give myself a good start at seeing if the system worked properly.

Then I would have done a clean install.

That's the only way that I know how to go from a series of unknowns...to a known good, working system.

Worst case scenario: The system is highly infected.

Best case scenario: The system has O/S or malware problems or a combination thereof.

I don't see major here...Did you install anything before this happened? Perhaps IE 7.0?

Go to Start->Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit OK. Let it scan. If it finds any files missing/corrupted, it may ask for the Windows CD.

Download LSPFix http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/LSPFix.exe and run it. Check the box that says 'I know what I'm doing'. Click on inetcntrl.dll on the left window and then click on the arrow pointing to the right. Click Finish and follow the prompts.

OK, this is admittedly a strange one...

I have used an old (probably a 16-bit) application as my time synchronizer this I've used for quite some time. Its name is TimeRC, and is a great synchronizer as it tracks moon phases along with the time (from selectable, multiple potential time servers). After a fatal software crash a couple of weeks ago, I'm in the process of recovery. Attempts to manually launch the EXE, result in a launch-time error stating that the ap is not compatible with my Windows 7 Pro (SP1). Note that I'm running on the same level of Windows that I was using prior to the crash/re-install. I have inhibited compatibility checking (Group Policy adjustment) only to incur the Win32 error.

I've been through the litany of utilities (registry) to correct this situation, and I KNOW that this ap runs just fine on Windows 7 (from pre-crash days). I am at my wits end trying to avoid this situation. I suspect that there is a registry setting difference (now versus pre-crash) about which I'm ignorant, so I'm open to any, and all suggestions.

To use an alternative time synchronizer is not an option...I'm anal about how my system looks, feels, and performs!! I've even tried running in XP mode (virtual machine) to no palatable result. Note that I don't have access to the program's source code, otherwise I could recompile!

There's got to be something that I'm missing.

Color me frustrated,
Randy Reist (Lairbear)

Basically, when I switch on my laptop, both bttray.exe and GrooveMonitor display the exact same error(bar the application name in the title) - I have also tried to install AVG Free which comes up with the same error when trying to start.

The error is:

BTTray.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc150004). Click OK to terminate the application.

I am running Microsoft? Windows Vista? Ultimate 6.0.6001.1.1252.44.1033.18.3066.1940

I haven't tried anything to correct this as I wouldn't know where to start.
Any help anyone can provide would be highly appreciated,

Hello, all,
In looking at my error logs, there have been occasional errors with Word. But just recently, they have become quite a pattern. I'm not a techie and don't know if this error entry tells us details to center in on exactly what the problem is. But I am copying it below for your perusal. I am running Home Vista & Office Home & Student 2007. After I installed an update to my HP OfficeJet All-in-One I started getting frequent messages that Word had failed & Microsoft was searching for solutions to the problem. It always repairs & Word returns for continued use, but something is clearly wrong. I saw a discussion on Bleeping Computer that lead me to think that Office & my HP printer might be conflicting. But so far as I am aware the updates for both the Office & HP are the newest versions. I think Microsoft is completely updated. Can you help me correct whatever this is all about ? I am very unclear about what is happening & don't know what to do.
Thanks, dreamcatcherco

A:Application Error--faulting Application Winword.exe

Microsoft Word crashed because of this module: hpz3r4x6.dllThe references that I was able to find for this file suggest that its:1) an OEM driver file, and2) a Unified UI/Render plug-inWhich doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot to me, but I've got a guess or two about.Since the filename starts with HP and you've recently installed an HP OfficeJet...did you install it from the drivers on the disk, or did you download the drivers from HP? If you installed from the disk, did the disk (or the setup program) specify that the drivers were compatible with Windows Vista? Often printers will be marked with a "Works with Windows Vista" sticker - but won't have the Vista drivers on the installation CD/DVD.I would suggest uninstalling the drivers and software for the HP printer, then reboot and test to see if the error has been corrected. If it has, then try getting the Vista drivers from this link: http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/suppor...Display=driversand see if that helps.

Hi all,

PC was running fine and shut down correctly. Came to switch it back on and get the above error message on just about every application I click on. No errors on booting up to the Desktop though. Same problem whether it is a shortcut or the actual .exe file. Seems not to affect the 64 bit applications but all 32 bit applications will not start. Even clicking a .pdf document gives this error. Also seems that some Windows stuff is not working properly. For example I can access the Device Manager by clicking its icon directly in the Control Panel but not by clicking it from a a link in a different Control Panel section (just does not respond to the click).

System is Windows 7 X64. Last Windows update ran 3 days ago so I don't think t has anything to do with that?

I ran Bit Defender Anti Virus (up to date virus definitions, paid for version) and it ran OK as it is a 64 bit app and it did not find anything on the virus front. I don't think is is a virus. Also ran C Cleaner a few times. I have not tried a system restore yet but nothing new has been installed, only a Steam update ran in the previous session.

Any ideas welcome, a reformat is too much to consider right now Please help!

PS: I Google'd this and others reported similar issues about a year back and it was attributed to a bad Windows update back then.

A:Error: the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005).

If it was my computer after checking for infection which you have done. I would use the restore point. Then I would run
sfc /scannow as per this tutorial by Brink.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

The problem does have the smell of a infection or a PUP.
You could also run Malwarebytes.

No security program finds 100% of everything 100% of the time.

Then check Windows Updates.
If it gives new updates install them one at a time and verify no problems.

P/S: What big case do you have?

About a month ago, some software was installed that was bundled with a video card patch for a game. The software was malware which hijacked my browsers and displayed ads everywhere. After using various malware removal tools , I was able to remove over 95% of the malware

Periodically through out the day, I receive two error messages from some type of routine that tries to execute cdhtr.exe or rthdcpd.exe. I figure the only malware still on my system are the mechanisms that are attempting to execute cdhtr.exe and rthdcpd.exe. Screen shots of the two error messages are attached.

Thanks in advance for any assistance

I started my PC today and as soon as Windows booted up I got this message for all my startup item(the only way I can get any programs to run is through Safe Mode).Seems to come up for every .exe file I try to run. I started to see the signs of it last night when some applications and games just outright refused to launch. I tried doing a couple of things: I ran Malwarebytes and did a scan found some infections and got rid of them, ran the System File Checker and restarted the computer afterwards, tried to do a System Restore. None of these things helped, however after the Malwarebytes scan some programs did start briefly but then something kicked in and I was unable to launch them again. System File Checker told me that some files were fixed and some were not. My Antivirus software doesn't pick anything up either. I've attached the CBS.log from System File Checker to this post. I had this problem a long time ago but I forgot how I fixed it that time. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

A:the application was unable to start correctly 0xc0000142 error message

well, one thing, run SFC /scannow again, reboot, and if anything was fixed, do it again. Repeat untill it just says no files could be fixed to make sure sfc has done as much as it can

look thru this thread as well SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Hello,

I am new to the forums and truly only really joined to ask this question because after being all over the internet and troubleshooting in my own capacity I am still left at a loss and quite perturbed.

FOR SUMMARY SCROLL DOWN TO NEXT BOLD TEXT

I just got a new PC (specs visible on my profile) and have restored most of my Steam games as well as a few other cracked and free-to-play games. After installing them all I started trying to play a few games. I received an error on most games I tried to start except Dota 2 and Far Cry 4 (cracked):

This application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application.

I checked the internet and it suggested I reinstalled Windows 8 Professional Build 9200 64-bit which I had previously installed. This seems to resolved the problem somewhat as the majority of the games that hadn't worked previously began to work.

However, some games still refuse to work and produce the same error. After changing ownership of the \SysWOW64 and \System32 folders in C>Windows since I had trouble copying the 5 .dlls in several other forums namely:

mfc100.dll
mfc100u.dll
msvcp100.dll
msvcr100.dll
msvcr100_clr0400.dll

Mostly it was the msvcr100_clr0400.dll that refused to copy across even after booting into safe mode. This copying was solved by a permission change and ownership change. I then deleted the msvcp100.dll file and the 0xc000007b error then gave way to the error:

The program can't start because MS... Read more

Any quick help would be greatly appreciated. I was trying to fix some BSOD's and windows update issues on a friend's pc. I thought i was successful until i kept getting "Setup has detected that .NET Framework 4 needs to be repaired. Do not restart your computer until the repair is complete."

After some research, I thought I could resolve the issue with the .net framework cleanup tool. After attempting that, now I get the "Application was unable to start properly (0xc0150004)" error message. The only program I've been able to start has been IE8. This also means I wasn't able to run the BSOD tool you guys provide for posting.

I've tried startup repair more than a couple times. Also tried system restore from the windows recovery environment and it said it was unable to complete. 50% of the time, when trying to get into the recovery environment or just the regular system, I get an "irql_less_or_not_eual" blue screen.

When i originally started working on the pc i cleaned a bunch of viruses off (or so i thought). I have a sneaking suspicion that this issue was caused by a virus with a sneaky backdoor and is masquerading as some .net files.

the system was built by my friend and has: Asus p5ql pro MOBO, Intel core 2 duo, currently 4gigs mem (2x2gb corsair), NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS and a WD HD.

I hope I've given some good starting information.

Thanks

I noticed the keys are not unresponsive because when I click Caps Lock the little light flashes on.So please can somebody help me out with this huge problem, or is my laptop over and done with?EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forumWe'll just assume XP-MG

I have seen several postings on this topic, but it seems that every one is a little different, so I am posting my dilemma. I am sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place.
As of about 10 days ago, several programs will not open. Instead, I get the error window that states "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the application." As far as I can tell, this error message affects these programs: Ultraplayer, Windows Media Player, Sound Recorder, Logitech Setpoint, Quicktime Player, Real One Message Center, and Total Recorder.

My computer is a desktop, HP Pavilion a1020n. Windows XP Home Ed., SP 3. Windows updates are current. Run Avast antivirus software and usually have Windows Firewall turned on.

Here's what I've tried:
Tried to uninstall and reinstall several programs. Uninstall usually won't happen. Have tried new installs over the old, but it doesn't "take."
10 days ago - went back to a restore point. Did no good.
Have run Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy several times, including today (May 2). Today Ad-Aware found and removed a few items from the families of Cookies, Win32 Trojan Spy, and Win32 Tr\.\per Delf. Spybot found nothing today.
Have run CCleaner to clean up registry.
Ran Hijack This and saved the log. I can post it if it is needed.

I've considered reformatting the hard drive, but really don't want to resort to that.

A:'This application has failed to start because WININET.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem

Hello frankp747,From what I read, the "Wininet.dll" error can be caused by software, hardware, or malware. Why were you performing a system restore? Have you tried to access Safe Mode?As the computer is booting, tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the "Advanced Boot Options" Menu.Use your arrow keys to move to "Last Known Good Configuration" then press the <Enter> key. Reboot the computer. If that doesn't work, try "Safe Mode."If Safe Mode loads then try to do a System Restore using a point before your troubles began. Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools," "System Restore."

When the WinService_Y triggers the APP_X, it gives me the error saying:

Recently, I've been unable to access my F: drive. When I double click on the drive I get en error that says "Application Not Found". I can, however right click on the drive and open it that way, it's just extremely annoying. It doesn't matter what device is set as the F: drive, be it a UBS drive, a virtual drive, or a CD/DVD drive, it gives me the same error. At first I thought maybe there was something wrong with my USB drive, but if I use the same USB drive as E:, G:, H: etc. it works perfectly fine. The problem seems to lie specifically with F: drive itself. I've run all my virus scans (Norton and Malwarebytes) as well as PC Tools Registry Mechanic and found nothing. I even restored my system to about a week ago with no results. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello..

I am trying to help fix my brothers computer.

It seems to have had a number of infections over the past year or so. He has Norton AntiVirus.

Currently, Norton does not report any infections, however, I ran a scan with Spyware Doctor and it reported a lot of infections:
Trojan-Downloader.Ruins
Application.PopCap
Application.Keystroke Spy
Adware.Search_Toolbar
Trojan-Downloader.Popuper
Downloader.PopCap

There were more. I have saved the scan results, and attached them to this post.

I followed steps listed 1 through 5 in the IMPORTANT - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help.

I also ran a number of other scans, including:
Super Antispyware
AVG Antispyware
Eset Online Scan

Those scans did not show any problems.

The Panda log is as follows:

Incident Status Location

Adware:adware/winprotect Not disinfected c:\windows\help\SPAlert.chm ... Read more

A:Trojan-Downloader.Ruins, Application.PopCap, Application.Keystroke Spy and more.

Bump..

I was going to ask EA this, but their support contact form doesn't seem to work.

I used to play the Sims 2 on my pc. The pc was slightly underqualified, but besides slow gameplay it seemed to work fine. I had all the expansions save for University installed.

All of a sudden when I was playing it seemed to freeze, and a popup saying 'This application has crashed, application will not terminate' popped up. This happened around the time that I upgraded my pc with additional RAM and when I installed Free Time. I didn't know if it was the problem of either those things.

I still kept playing, but after a while I could only play for about 5 minutes before it popped up again. Then, I decided to play with an older lot that I created before the installation of Freetime. Strangely, I was able to play in that lot for hours and I never got that popup. The popup only came up during the actual game play, so not during CAS, or building etc.

I recently bought a new laptop. It's a special gaming laptop and it has really good specs, so I decided to buy it, mainly because I play the SIms 2 a lot. (See DXDiag). I installed all the expansion (including university), so now I have all the expansions+stuff packs on this laptop. I also copied all the custom content from my computer to my laptop. The installation went fine, and in the beginning everything seemed to run smoothly.

That was mostly due to the fact that I was building a lot more and creating families than acutal... Read more

And now I am so screwed. I can't even open services.msc, I can't install an update, I can't run updates and I can't re enable anything because I can't get into services to do it. Please don't say system restore because I disabled it. If you say get a mac, then yes, I agree!

A:I disabled application info and application update in services.msc
