I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

About three weeks ago I upgraded BIOS on my laptop (as suggested by Lenovo Vantage) to latest version (N14ET45W (1.24), 3/01/2018). I am running Windows 10 64 bit. Shortly after that I started suffering quite frequent momentary freezing events where I had to wait between 10 to 40 seconds for the machine to continue working. During this period many of the running apps were closed and then reopened and I could not type or do any other thing. As you can imagine, this turned to be quite frustrating. I started searching at several forums, mainly Windows 10 related forums for a solution. U tried every possible solution, from updating all drivers to editing Registry etc. with no positive results at all. I was finally considering a full reimage of my machine when my latest resource turned to be rolling back my BIOS, as after checking on dates it seemed my suffering started shortly after my latest Lenovo Vantage drivers and BIOS update. Accordingly, I rolled Back from indicated BIOS to N14ET45W (1.23), 2/28/2018.Voila! This was the required solution. After that, my machine has been running smoothly, with no freezing events.Hope I had found a solution at any forum, and that?s why I am sharing this information here, as I really spent almost three weeks of frustration and unsuccessful searching/testing. I think Lenovo should test better and BIOS release. Hope my post may help other X1 Carbon 3rd Gen with a similar issue. DO NOT UPGRADE BIOS TO version (N14ET45W (1.24), 3/01/2018!!... Read more

So I've messed around with this my whole afternoon. What I've found out is that the X1C I just got will not notice my monitor (samsung px2370), however, it will notice my TV just fine.Figured I would try a BIOS update...well I already have Linux installed and the BIOS update options are "Windows" or "CD"...why...there is a CD/DVD option...in 2018...on a model that does not have a direct CD/DVD drive - is beyond me.I've tried copying the iso image with 'dd' and booting from it but that doesn't work.Suggestions?

A few days ago I was prompted to install an urgent BIOS update.  I followed the screen prompts and the system rebooted and flashed the BIOS.  Our company laptops all have Sophos encryption, which requires a separate login prior to booting the OS (Win7).  I've always been able to enter user ID and password information on that screen using the USB keyboard connected to my OneLink+ dock (which is connected to the laptop). Following this BIOS update, I can no longer use the keyboard or mouse (also USB) connected to the OneLink+ dock until the OS boots.  I have to open my laptop, enter my Sophos ID and password on the laptop keyboard, then close the laptop.  Once the OS (Win7) boots, I can use both the USB devices fine.  Interestingly enough, the monitor attached to the OneLink+ dock functions just fine before the OS boots up. I checked BIOS settings and couldn't see anything there that looked odd or out of place.  I also checed Device Manager to see if there were any warnings or issues, and didn't see anything. I tried to downgrade the BIOS to an earlier version, but once you are above 1.23 that is not possible.  I did flash to the latest release - 1.27 - but that did not fix the issue. So I'm stuck with a rather awkward login process which was not an issue until this BIOS version was installed a few days ago.  I've reviewed other post for similar issues but have not found anything that points at a solution thus far... Hi, After installing Windows 10, I began to have issues with the left click button on the touchpad.  The left click suddenly stops functioning, and it does not work again until I reboot the computer.  It is not a hardware issue as I have tested this by changing the functionality between the left and right buttons, at which point the left button works again.  My sense is there is a bug in the touchpad's driver software under the new operating system.  I have tried to uninstall and reinstall drivers, I have scanned to ensure the computer does not have a virus, and I have reinstalled the operating system.  None of this solves the issue.  The left mouse click on the touchpad will still suddenly stop working at some period of time after using the computer (generally after leaving the computer idle and later resuming use).   Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions are welcome.  Is it a bug in the driver software for the touchpad that needs to be fixed for Windows 10?   Thanks you!

I have a first generation Yoga X1 (20FQ) and I recently updated BIOS to 1.33. Now randomly my fan gets stuck on running, meaning that it continues to run even though the temperatures are low: around 35C. I mostly use Linux (Ubuntu 17.10), but this happens in Windows too. The two things that seem to help are 1) putting the laptop to sleep or 2) powering off. Anyone else seeing this? I am thinking it is the BIOS update.

A:Add a second ssd to x1 Carbon 5th generation?

I haven't seen any confirmation that Lenovo allows the use of an SSD in the WWAN slot on the 5th gen X1 Carbon, so I would say that it probably wouldn't work.  You can try though.

And there's only one M.2 slot, so I don't think you can add an extra SSD.

I just bought a new X1 Carbon 6th generation and hooked it up to a new LG Ultrawide Monitor. The pages to say the least on the Monitor do not look good. My laptop comes with 1980x1080 display. What I want to know is if returning it and getting a higher resolution display like 2560x1440 will make a difference on the external monitor or if I could just buy an external EGPU and hook that up to get higher resolution display on my external ultrawide monitor? The xternal monitor is a LG38UC99 Monitor. That monitor  has a 21:9 Display. I tried hooking it up with both HDMI and with USB C cable and both look bad on external monitor. What I need to use external monitor for is opening up 3 seperate windows for stock trading.

I have a first generation x1 carbon that i purchased in the summer of 2013. i opted for the model with the 256 gb ssd. It's been a great laptop so far, but in the last couple of months it has started to charge incorrectly.  When plugged in to charge, it will charge for about 2 seconds, and then it will stop charging for about 2 seconds.  This cycle continues constantly.  Every now and then it will charge correctly, but very rarely.  Our computer tech looked at it, and pretty well ruled out anything wrong with the charging port, and doesn't think it's a hardware issue.  He mentioned a factory reset maybe fixing it, but that would be a last resort.  Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did you fix it?  Thank you

We have purchased 4 X1 Carbons now in the last 2 weeks. We've owned nearly at least one of each generation of X1. 6th Generation X1 CarbonProduct Number: 20KH002QUS - Touch Screen, 512GB m.2, 8GB RAMWindows 10 Pro What we have found is that the laptop stops responding to input. As in the external mouse (bluetooth or usb) stops working, the touchpad stops working and the touchscreen stops working. Sometimes the nib will allow us move around, but we can't click on anything. In all these cases, we can use the keyboard to navigate to the shut down, but the laptop will not shut all the way down. It goes to the black screen but never fully cycles down. You have to hold the power button till it's off. After that, it works again. It's hard to replicate, but it's happened on all 4 laptops. It's happened under BIOS N23ET33W (1.08) as well as N23ET37W (1.12).  Firstly, has anyone else encoutnered this issue? Secondly, were you able to fix this? I've tried resetting Windows to no avail.

Hello all, I have a question regarding the advertised thinkpad video on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50ivvNhKxDA I have a thinkpad x1 Carbon (3rd generation) and I am not sure if this model has this dust discharge plate feature installed. Can anyone chime in and let me know? I am just worried if I use it on a flat surface that is cloth such as table top or on the bed I should be worried about dust accumulation. Granted the fan does not even spin up that often for me as I do light work (reading pdfs, word docs) but it would make me more comfortable knowing that there is a dust discharge plate to reduce the amount of dust accumulating inside the laptop. Thank you in advance for any answers!

A:Does the 3rd Generation X1 Carbon Have A Dust Disc...

what guy in video is referring too is probably the filter layer that is glued/heated onto back cover from inside that is the dust discharge plate it prevent's most of dust from being sucked into laptop so it get's less dust inside than what most laptops that does not have one will get more dust inside. P.s correct me if i got this all wrong. Also if that is it then yes lenovo x1 carbon 3rd gen has one .

I was wondering if someone has successfully mounted an SSD in the WWAN port on a Carbon X1 5th generation? I'm about to buy a 6th generation X1 and would like to do that. If you have actually done it, I'd sure appreciate knowing what parts you used and any tricks. I ask because I have an old T420S with an M2 drive in the WWAN port and it has worked brillianty for years. I'd like to set this machine up simiarly, with a second 1TB drive in the WWAN port, giving me 2TB total. Alternately, is it possible to order the X1 6th generation with no SSD but included install media? I could then snap in a Samsung 2TB 960 Pro drive and build it up from the media. Thank you for your help!

I would report this directly to support but Lenovo it won't allow to me register my wife's X1 with my account inspite of the fact that I'm the one who ordered it. Ugh. Machine model: 20HRCT01WW My wife has 6 week old machine and it is much slower to wake from sleep than its predecessor (2nd Gen Carbon X1). I timed it this morning and it took in the range of 10 seconds. I just double checked the old, takes 4-5 seconds to wake up. (Having been asleep for several days). One would niavely assume, newer machine with faster CPU and SSD should wake faster. I have a pretty decent understanding of the various sleep states (S0 -> S4 - i.e. hibernate). I have spent a few minutes in the Event Viewer but can't find much useful logging of sleep state changes to figure out is going on. I have just time the time to wake from hibernate and its only marginally worse than sleep (~12 secs). (Full reboot is noticebly faster). How can I tweak the system so that wake from sleep is less painful? ThanksMark Levison

Hello, I have a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 3rd generation. Two days ago, I have updated the BIOS to the latest version 1.12. The installation went well and I successfully booted into Windows 10 with no issues. However, the fan was not working anymore. I did not notice this until the laptop was extremely hot (which is very unusual for this laptop under low/medium load). In particular, I was just running a "disk cleanup" using the native Windows tool and after 5 minutes I decided to kill the process (this operation usually takes 1-2 minutes). My feeling was that due to the temperature the cpu was in throttling. At that moment, I noticed that the fan was not active. After a shutdown, the fan was again working. However, I noticed that the fan kicks in much more often than it was used to. For this reason, I did two things:- I have downgraded the BIOS to 1.11: BIOS 1.12 updated the CPU microcode, I am not sure that the microcode was downgraded as well when I downgraded the BIOS. - I have run the "Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool": I was afraid that the high temperatures may have damaged the cpu. The tool reported that the maximum temperature of the cpu during the benchmark was always safely within the expected threshold and all the tests were passed. Now, I still can see that the fan kicks in much more often than usual. I have noticed, using sensors under Ubuntu 15.10, that every time there is a very short burst/peak of... Read more

I'm receiving F15 and a few other random keystrokes after having updated my BIOS and audio drivers. Is this a known issue and is there a fix? Or is this just unrelated.  I'm using an external keyboard, tried two different keyboards. and differnt USB ports.

Hey everyone! I'm probably going to come off as super petty but I just want to check to see if the noises I get from different keys is normal. The backspace and down arrow keys are quite a bit noiser when clicked than any other buttons on the keyboard. I first noticed how loud the down arrow key was versus the other arrow keys. Are these normal differences that you all are experiencing or are these issues I should try to warranty? Like I said, I'm sure I'm coming off as petty but it's a brand new laptop for me and one I spent quite a bit of money on so I want to make sure everything's okay. Thanks for the feedback!
