Q: Netgear PS121 v2 software doesn't install

I am unable to get my software to install for the Netgear PS121 v2. It goes halfway then stops and locks up. I have downloaded the newest driver and reset the box by pushing the button on the back. Any suggestions? I am using Windows XP.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm trying to share a Canon LBP 3200 through a Netgear PS121 USB Mini Print Server on a Winodws NT network with Win98/2K and XP clients.
The print server installs just fine, but adding the printer to a machine comes up with "Set Printer Fail. Error Code: #87" in the Add Printer Port Wizard. However when an actual command to print is sent through, the status box says it's printing. You can wait for as long as you want and nothing happens.

The printer does work, I have tested it on it's own. I have given everyone full rights to the printer as a test, still no go. The list of non-compatible printers on the Netgear site show a lot of canon LBP printers that have CAPT (Canon Advanced Printing Technology) the Canon LBP 3200 has CAPT, could this be the problem?

Hi all,

I thought i'd pass this on.

I'm running a Netgear PS121v2 usb print server. It had no issues under XP but within Vista / W7 there was a defect.

The driver for the V2 when installed came up as unsigned, therefore the installation wouldn't proceed any further.

I looked around the net, and a few people had found a workaround with installing the printer manually within Vista.

For me this still didn't work, as when the test page prints, it hangs one line from the end.

The netgear support site stated that the driver for the PS121v2 was compatible with XP through Vista 32 and 64bit.

So I took a chance and did the following:

Solution:
Download the Drivers for the PS121v1

The difference from what I gather after reading some technical papers is that the firmware in the v2 allows for sharing of the multifunctions of multifunction printers.

The PS121v1 software is signed for Vista and installed no problem.

I first connected the printer (an officejet 4100 series) to the PC and W7 found all the necessary drivers. - impressive as HP's own site says that it doesn't support vista.

I then connected the printer to the PS121 on the router, and installed the PS121v1 drivers.

The drivers configure the existing printer setup to run on the printserver by modifying it's port details and settings.

Prints fine, with no glitches.

A:Netgear PS121 Compatibility With W7 and Vista 64bit

This worked Great! However, I didn't find drivers but rather downloaded the PS121v1 CD instead. I extracted the files, burned them to a CD and ran the CD. This enabled the print server and helped me create a valid printer port on my Windows 7 machine.

However, to actually add the print server as a network printer, I had to add a local printer. I had previously added the printer when it was hosted on another machine on my home network, so the Windows 7 machine already had the specific printer drivers for the printer (HP 5510). When adding the local printer, I selected the Network hp 5500 series printer drivers and then changed the port to the port created by the PS121v1 CD port creation utility.

Now the printer is recognized and prints just fine.

I did this, because when I ran the Windows 7 'Add Printer' utility and tried to add a network printer, the PS121 print server would always reject the connection and Windows 7 wouldn't allow me to add a network printer. I don't have a solution to that, but don't need one since adding the local printer with the network port to the print server.

*EDIT: Issue Fixed!
Hello all, I searched the Techguy archives and found this topic, and followed its advice, but I was not successful:
http://forums.techguy.org/networking/554492-netgear-wgr614-wireless-works-wired.html

I have the same Netgear router- WGR614

I think my problem is alittle different, so I will explain as best I can.

I have two computers, both were hooked into the router and worked fine. I messed up when accessing my default gate- 192.168.1.1 to change my ports. (I accessed this from my 2nd computer, and had thougt it would only change that computer). I changed them from 'automatically detect...' to the numbers I found while doing cmd>ipconfig. I did a test run, and then both computers(internet) stopped working! So now I am on my second computer, and it works becauseI unplugged it from my router. So I can get the internet working but only one computer at a time and without the router.

I called cox and the automated voice said they could not see the router. They changed the ip and gate on my first computer, and here on my 2nd, my ip has changed to what the 1st computers IP was before Cox changed the 1st computers IP

So, in the other topic, It says to use cmd>ipconfig to find my default gate and to enter my default gate into my search to access the router setting, so I could change them back to 'auto detect.' I have a new default gate and typed that in, but it doesnt work.

I think it doesnt work because I am not connected to the ... Read more

Hi all,

I've managed to get the software on my Netgear WG111 Adapter working fine and have connected to my router succefully although when I try to connect to the internet, nothing happens as in 'internet explorer cannot display the webpage'.

First, the backstory.

I recently swapped motherboards from two old computers, to try and fix some issues with one for my sister. The cord from the power button to the MB didn't reach, so I swapped back to the old one (the issue turned out to simply be a dirty heatsink) And I got a HAL.DLL error. Used system recovery to repair it, and it rolled the operating system back to it's original state.
The Issue: I had a Netgear wireless adapter installed in the computer for internet access, and now that everything's been rolled back and re-updated (i spent two days re downloading and installing every security update and all 3 service packs) the netgear software simply refuses to run, and the wireless adapter won't work.

I know this isn't a hardware issue because i tested the adapter on my computer, and it works fine. The program to configure my settings isn't running. Or rather, it runs, it shows as a running process in the task manager, but i literally have no access to the program itself.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing the software, i tried the latest version, i even tried un-installing, using the registry cleaner from Advanced System Care and re-installing it to try and fix it. I still have the same issue.

As always, help is appreciated.

~HNH~

A:Netgear software not working?

If the adapter works on a different system...then the problem has to be with your O/S.

<<...the netgear software simply refuses to run...>>

Does that mean that it doesn't install...or does that mean that the software/drivers install but the NIC gives no sign of life?

What does Device Manager reflect?

What possibly related errors are evident in Event Viewer?

Is the connection reflected when you go to Control Panel/Net & Internet Connections/Network Connections? If so, what is reflected for Details of same?

Louis

Thanks .

This is regarding a NETGEAR WG121 external USB 2.0 wireless card.

Within the last couple of weeks one of my PCs has started to drag. When I run Process Explorer I see that the Netgear software for the card is, at time, eating up anywhere from 29% to 45% of the processor's available muscle. When I close the Netgear software the process, of course, vanishes and my computer's 'Idle Process' runs over 90% (as it should). This software is never running under 29%.

I'm using Webroot Spysweeper and Webroot Firewall so I don't think I have some spyware using the PC and the 'net connection.

I haven't changed the Office software on this machine since well....ever. It's MS Office 2003 Pro. Ran the updates tonight and rebooted as required and when I opened Outlook, I get the message saying that my Office software is NOT the GENUINE thing.
I checked my update history on the MS UPDATE site and it installed a genuine validation tool....yet again. I've never gotten this message before and am wondering why...is this a false positive or did I pick up some kind of virus?

BTW, suddenly, my spysweeper software won't update the definitions saying that the keycode in inactive, but my subscription expires in July 2010.

These to occurrences are why I would even suspect a possib;e virus of some sort. My NOD32 hasn't picked up anything and a spysweeper scan came up clean.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

With the hardware installed, when Windows boots, you should get the "Found New Hardware wizard". At which point, let Windows install the drivers (if it has them) or use the CD and install the drivers from there. If it's not installing, what error are you getting?

You can download the driver from http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12962. Whether or not to buy a refurbished adapter is a personal decision. I've had refurbished devices that worked fine-and others that were a continual problem. You might ask the seller for a guarantee, i.e. if it fails within 90 days can I return it? Or whatever you can work out.

Hi,

I am trying to install a netgear DG834G on my mates PC. I have gone through the cd and all the lights (power, internet connection, wireless connection and Ethernet connection) are lit up as the cd says they should be. When I then click next I get a screen that tells me it canít find the cable or router. I have been on to netgear tech support and gone through everything with then and surprise surprise they say itís my computer that is faulty. However, I can still get it connected using the wired Thomson speed touch 330. So it defo works.

When I plug the Ethernet into the netgear it say acquiring connection and then says there is no connectivity -is this related.

Any tips or advice on how to solve this would be massively appreciated

My ISP is TalkTalk

A:Netgear DG834G wont install

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Make and model of the broadband modem.
Make and model of the router.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make/model of your computer.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc.

Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

Does your ADSL connection require a user name/password login? Did you configure that in the DB834G? Can you make a wired connection to the DG834G?

Try this to get a wired connection, then work on the wireless.

Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the router and the computer.
Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi everyone... afraid I'm vexed again. This time a CD supplied on a second hand router was bent out of shape and I can't install the Netgear DG834G router without it. I can access the router home page and cofigure the thing, and even set up a USB adapter to talk to the router, but I think I need the basic installation of whatever is meant to be on the "resource CD (version 2.0)".

Does anyone have this? Any alternatives? I'd be glad for any tips, or if anyone is so kind as to yousendit an image file of their own CD

If you just bought it, you can call Netgear at 1-888-638-4327 for tech help (it free for the first month or so, then they charge for it).

My daughters' Satellite laptop just came back from Comp USA where it had been for some major restorative surgery. None of her previous software made the return trip home....

I had bought her a Netgear wireless card, which we thought that she had lost some time ago...hence the disk was picthed. I found the wireless card...go figure...in a pocket in the heavy duty case I got her on eBay. I inserted the card and Windows kindly offered to reinstall the software, but alas..no disk. I've physically plugged the machine into our LAN and visited Netgear's site where I downloaded (at a paionfully slow pace..unusual as we are on broadband) what I assume is the correct driver. The files I downloaded are zipped, but none of them actually appear to be self-installing.

I have extracted the files but there does not seem to be any way to make any of them do what I need. I can list the filenames/extensions if that would be useful. Sincere thanks to anyone who can find the time to help.

if you goto device manger is th ewireless device there - if so have you tried re-installing driver from there.
or add new hadware and when ask for driver point to your files.

listing here may help

also model of wireless card will help to

heres a free wireless program which detects wireless signal in the area. i found this useful for diagnosing if a problem with hardware or signal

Free software to check signal strength of wireless is netstumbler 0.4.0 available for download from http://www.stumbler.net/

Hi All,

I recently put in a Netgear firewall, configured it, its running no problem. Then I setup a new Netgear N600 wireless router, configured it, gave it a static IP, connected to it, works like a charm. Thing is, when I try to access the web gui I receive nothing.. Is the Netgear firewall taking priority or something? I went directly connected to the netgear wifi router and double checked to make sure that there was no settings restricting administration from wifi users, etc.. Anyone have a similar setup ?

Thanks All

You sure been busy! Have "seen" you all over this place.

Is the FVS318G router connected to the N600 router's WAN port or a LAN port?

If WAN have you changed one of the routers so that they don't both use the same LAN subnet (I didn't check each one, but they probably both default to the same).

If LAN have you disabled the N600's Dhcp server?

Hi
I have looked through solutions for this issue, but the suggestions don't seem to fix my issue...

I am running Windows 7 SP1 Pro 64-bit on a Dell Optiplex 760, and try to do a clean install of Windows 10, using the ISO file which I downloaded from Microsoft & burnt on to a DVD, and instructions from the tutorial on here, which are very good. I downloaded the correct 64-bit version.

I boot from the DVD, enter my region (UK), and choose custom install, and then my hard drive does not show up on the list of where you would like to install. I have all my USB's unplugged (except keyboard/mouse).

I tried deleting my partions using MiniTool Partition Wizard (bootable DVD), so that the entire disk is unallocated. That didn't fix it. I also tried creating a new partition (NTFS) of the entire drive (to get one Primary NTFS partition). That didn't work. I also tried setting that partition as 'active'. The same.

Before formatting etc, I tried a boot from the Windows 7 install DVD, and the hard drive does show up, unlike the Windows 10 DVD.

Do you think it's an issue with the Windows 10 installer?

I downloaded another version of Win10 from the MS Tech Bench page, but same issue.

After formatting etc, during the Windows 10 boot, I tried another suggestion to open up Command Prompt (Shift + F10), and ran 'diskpart' - and no drives are found. I checked the Bios, and it was there.

So presumably that is the issue. If i ran 'diskpart' with my prior Windows 7 install, diskpart sh... Read more

A:Windows 10 clean install - hard drive doesn't show up before install

Welcome toTenforums, Simon.

I am a little concerned that the Windows 10 setup program on DVD does not have drivers to properly see and interrogate the system on your PC so that the hard drive is visible. It's the second similar case on this forum that I've seen recently. You also seem to be trying to clean install on an empty PC - is this correct, because if you do so It will not activate.

After much to-ing and fro-ing, it was finally possible to *copy the Sources folder from the setup ISO file onto a partition on the hard drive, and run the setup from there, where it wasn't possible to boot from the DVD, even though it worked elsewhere.

If you still have Windows 7 installed (and you should do for Windows 10 activation purposes - if just to obtain a genuine ticket for digital entitlement), and you have the ISO download available, the solution is fairly simple. If you haven't you will need the Windows 7 key to activate the install.

You seem pretty PC savvy so, I'd ask you to follow the bolded instructions from the * in the 5th para above.

Should be easy!....
But I cannot get my NEW Netgear N600 router to communicate with a NEW Netgear WN 3000 RP extender.

The instructions say to press the WPS button on the extender then the WPS button on the router. No WPS button exists on the router!

The instructions also I can use any wireless network manager utility to set this up. Can't find where this is in Windows 7.

The I pad has found the NETGEAR_EXT address but won't connect. And the light on the extender does no indicate teh router is communicating with it.

Thought this process would be a simple plug and play, but...frustration!

I need to install my sound driver. I've been getting help from someone, and this was the last instruction he gave me in order to get my audio working again. To sum it up I had a virus which completely disabled my system, so I had to reinstall Wins XP, this was a custom built computer so a friend had to open it to find model numbers for motherboard. Was able to get computer working again, but no sound now. I ran all the Wins updates too. I downloaded the ASUS P4P8XSE audio driver at driverstock.com. I extracted the files, and then clicked on the install.exe and nothing happens.

to use for for data sharing between my PCs same network...  the Netgear can see its own USB HD, but will not share/show, it on my PCs.  The old Linksys worked fine before.
Hooked up old Cisco and now it does not SEE the shared/router HD to Map.
Have tried Wireless, Wired, both routers and still Windows 7 can not see to map.

Both routers SEE the USB HD but neither PC/Laptop can.
Have turned off, Firewall, no Antivirus, etc.

Is it a OS issue?  Was working on the Linksys before I switch to the Netgear,  Both PCs mapped to the Linksys USB HD.
Nothing wrong with HD as directly attached to my desktop and now sharing the desktop so can see the HD now but prefer SHARING by mapping.

Anyone?
