Q: CDROM Blues

I have an IDE Cdrom Drive that i'm installing. I dont however know which way to put the connectors. Does anyone know of how to do this or of a good tutorial.

Preferred Solution: CDROM Blues

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to TSG!!

Was it like this from the repair shop? If so, return to them with a request for a fully functioning machine, as you were expecting one after paying them for their services.

If this came about since then, let us know. There are various things to try. (One might be to pop open the case and be sure the cable(s) didn't fall off in transport.) Can you see it in BIOS?

Hello there,

Should I get 2 640g black HDDs and run them on R0 or get 2 640g blues and run them on R0?

Most people would say blacks but I got mixed signals from some people that 2 500/640g blues would be better some how..

So I'm stuck between 3 choices>>
2 640g Blacks on R0 + 2 1T greens for storage

2 640g Blues on R0 + 2 1T greens for storage

2 500g Blues on R0 + 2 1T Greens for storage + an extra 2g ram for my system (I only have 2g of ram right now which is working great)

So what do you think is better, 2 640g blacks, 2 500g blues or 2 640g blues??

I know all about the TLER thing and I have already made a DOS USB, so I'm all set for turning TLER-ON just incase it wasn't turned on by manufacture..

A:2 640g blacks on R0, 2 500g blues or 2 640g blues?

What is the reason that you are wanting to run RAID0? Is it for insanely fast performance? If so, have you considered using an SSD for your OS drive and then just a couple of mechanical drives for your storage. Reason I ask is that access time on SSD's is almost instantaneous and will provide a much greater improvement to OS performance based on this then any RAID config will.

If I had to pick between Blue and Black, I would go with Black as they have a 5 year warranty versus a 3 year warranty.

I recently received a hand-me-down pc with a CDRom/DVD which worked fine. It runs on Windows 2000 sp4. I installed a CDRom-RW from my older computer and since then have not been able to read cds. The computers registers that they exists, states that the correct drivers are installed but when I put in a cd rom and click on the icon, I get the message: "The disk in drive E: is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" Both drives, (E and F), give the same message with their respective drive letters no matter kind of CD in input.
The drives are installed master and slave correctly. Both drives will play music cds just fine.

XP will not boot, there are no error messages, it just stops after XP loading page. Have tried all the Safe Mode options but still stops at the same point. Thought I would get round the problem by installing a second bootable drive, and copy my files over using explorer. All seemed well until I realised that I cannot access 'My Document' files as access is blocked due password I set at the time of installation (I think).
Is there a way of overcoming 'access denied' so that I can copy my files over, or another way of getting the faulty drive to boot as everything seems to be in tact on the drive?

Any advice would be appreciated.

A:XP Blues

If it boots into Safe Mode, then Windows isn't totally hosed. You most likely have a corrupt driver. You can try running System Restore and changing back to a time before the problem started. If not, you can try booting from your XP CD and perform a repair.

I actually have a few small problem that were doubled since downloading sp2. I have a 4 year old desktop running xp pro that maybe 4 months ago started giving me a "restrictions" message when I attempt to go to tools/internet options in explorer. The message reads "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." Another tech forum advised me to check for spyware which I did, found, and removed. However, the message still persists, though I can get to internet options by way of the desktop icon. Another suggestion was to reformat, which is what I am considering. THEN I load sp2 and the generic host processors get real busy according to my zone alarm pro. The pc is a bit sluggish and the word "professional" has disappeared from the windows startup screen. If I deny internet access to any programs w/ zone alarm, explorer does not work. If I use the internet lock on z.a.pro for extended periods of time, I cannot connect back to the internet w/o a warm boot. My wife also is having problems w/ sp2 on her new Toshiba laptop. since the download, the wifi won't connect and the method for opening pictures on her camera's memory stick has changed. Sp2 has made life more difficult. Any Ideas? Thanks.

A:SP 2 Blues!

I dont know how many people feel here, but from research I believe theres better firewalls then ZA. Blackice, Zygote is to name a few.

Have you checked to see if the internet options have changed at all? There is a few "default" buttons you can push to set the options back to normal.

And most people need more then one spyware remover, because ive never met one that finds them all. Recommanded ones are Ad-aware, Search-&-Destroy, Xoftspy.

And I also had problems with ZA doing weird things to my comp before too. So, like ive told everyone else, try going to http://housecall.trendmicro.com .. its an online scanner, and its free. Its updated everyday, so it has the latest viruses, trojans, and adaware.

And you can post up a hijackthis log, to let the professionals of that type of stuff to look at for their suggestions.

and if all else fails, try tapping f8 while your computer is loading, and going to "last known good working configuration" or whatever it says. (cant remember.. to early in the morning for me lol) You will be able to tell which one it is

Other then all that, I have heard SP2 has been hard on everyone else. So you may just want to stop and wait for MS to update SP2.

In the last few days, I have failed to get sp2 to properly install on my machine. It nears the completion stage, then freezes my computer. I went to M$ site for online help, and found it not extremely helpful. In following M$ instructions to uninstall, you get many warnings that indicate much of your software "might" not work normally after, yet you must do it if you did not get a complete installation. I should have heeded the warnings, but had to proceed because the partially installed sp2 was freezing my system. So I used add/remove to remove it successfully, however on removal I believe it took items out of the registry that were required, ie. almost all my drivers were removed (graphics, sound, printer, raid array and more) So I began reinstalling drivers that windows did not find on its own, but the machine, while operable, was dreadfully slow and quirky, so I did a system restore to the day before sp2 installation, and I am back to normal with sp1. My question, Should I try again in safemode with their free CD, (This was suggested to me by M$ as they believe my computer running zonealarm 4.5, NAV03, popupstopper, and Spybot S/D may have some conflicts with SP2) Or should I be happy with a working computer that has the above mentioned security 3rd party programs that may be better than what is in SP2. In other words, if you already paid for the security enhancements, why does anyone need SP2? Thanks for any insight Gary

Hello Friends
My problem may sound silly, but i'm really fed up of window attitude.
I run a dialup with good speed / having a p4 machine and lots of ram/.
Since the day i installed xp Pro i do not get proper speeds on the net. Pages take ages to load and i have to go for the refresh button time and again, it happens with both XP Pro and Home Edition. The desired page may open or disappears after a while with a page not found if clicked on a link. F5 button is all the help i need ro refresh again and again but sometimes no use. I disabled the QOS(Quality of service) which XPAntispy claims robs you of your bandwith, but still i'm stuck with the same problem...pages refuse to open except google. Why does Xp behave so strange with TCP/IP ,as Xp is more stable than its predecessors.I installed the software many times but of no use. I searched the net for a solution but all i get is connection optimizers which are of no use, nobody has ever asked this problem anywhere.

While the story is different when i install ME and use the net i get good speeds and pages load faster now you guys maybe scratching your hair ,,,yes i did the same. I cant understand when xp is superior why it is so inferior online and the same lower verion WinMe is faster.

Can anyone please suggest and help me our on how can i solve the problem and use one OS instead of using 2 different os on diff partitions and wasting precious space. And i'm exhausted installing the OS.

Hiya and welcome

Are you using the built in firewall, or are you using one of your own? What happens if you disable it (just to find the fault):

Also, go to Tools | Internet Options. General tab. Under Delete Files, delete offline content.

go to http://forum.aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

My first post and a cry of help to all you kind soles out there.

Received my new pc after ordering it from the U.S.A. assembeled from parts I ordered by a friend out there.ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe, Intel Pentium 4 660, OCZ memory 2GB Gold.
Ran fine when I first got it a few days ago with only XP Pro SP2 on it. I started by loading AVG on it and Ashampoo Uninstaller, ZoneAlarm then Bitdefender Pro and Ewido. Did an update from MS. Things started going bad when I booted the pc the next day, it slowed down getting the welcome screen that hanged for a couple of minutes the mouse pointer froze and could only get it going again by unplugging it from the usb port and reconnecting it (have to do this everytime to get it to work now). After the welcome screen I only get the desktop background with no icons, it hangs for a while then the icons appear and only some of the icons on the right side of the taskbar appear at first then after a few minutes the rest struggle to show. The speaker icon has gone, went to "sounds and audio properties" and all is greyed out so I couldn't do much there.

Not much that I can do in general realy, system restore, defrag and most other utilities don't function, I can't install new programs. Ran a scan with BitDefender and Ewido but nothing found, tried Ewido in safe mode also and no luck however BitDefender refused to run in safe mode.

Assuming all goes well and everything is working fine do an image backup to another PHYSICAL hard disk if possible before installing anything else.RegardsBryan

5 memory dumps, 5 different BSOD error codes, 3 different causes blamed.
This is most likely a hardware problem - but it can be a compatibility issue or a low-level driver issue (less likely).

BUT, let's have a look at the driver output....
Please note that the first driver mentioned is sptd.sys - a component of Daemon Tools or one of the Alcohol % programs. This driver is a known cause of BSOD's in Win7 systems. Please:
- uninstall the program
- then use this free tool to ensure that the offending sptd.sys driver is removed from your system: DuplexSecure - FAQ

- Create a System Restore Point prior to doing any of this. DO NOT mess with the drivers themselves - leave the Windows\System32\drivers directory alone unless we specifically direct you to it!
- Please update these drivers from the device manufacturer's website - or uninstall them from your system. Reference links are included below.
- DO NOT use Windows Update or the Update Drivers function of Device Manager.

I am in the process of building my first computer. I have a Gigabyte GA-5AX main board with an AMD k63 400 processor, an ATI Xpert 128, and a stick of 64mg pc100 RAM. I set all jumpers but one, that being the VCC3 Conector. I have read the entire manual and can not find what this jumper is for, or how it should be set. It's a 4 pin JP11 jumper that the manual says can be set for either vcc3(psu){-}vcc3(mb)1/2-3/4 short..or, vcc3(psu){x}vcc3(mb)1/3-2/4 short....
I know that for some reason my machine is totally unstable with 64mg of PC100 RAM when running it at 3.3 volts. Unreal but true, if I switch to 3.5 volts it still has problems but it runs much better. Any ideas?

A:GA-5AX Blues

Apparently there are a lot of revisions to this motherboard... You may want to double check your settings against the list available here:

I downloaded and looked through the manual - I have no idea what the VCC3 is for either, but it may be related to JP13, which is VCC Voltage setting. The manual sure doesn't say in what way they might be related though. I would just leave it at the factory setting.

Problem: awtss.dll and sstwa.ini files that I cant get rid of. There are probably some more files causing my system to hang and have multiple errors. I've tried to unload them as well as a couple different Vundu fixes but with no luck. (I'm not even sure if it's Vundu that is the problem) I've used AdAware, Spybot S&D, Spyware Guard, and McAfee for A/V on this machine... they've found nothing.

MSConfig wont allow me to boot completely into safe mode, it keeps giving me errors and forces Selective Startup while not allowing me to uncheck the boxes for system.ini or win.ini - which are blank when you open them anyways! When I try to boot to safe mode using F8 it hangs on... you guessed it... Mup.sys.

System hasn't BSD on me while running. It BSD's when I boot. Then the only way I can get back in is from recovering an image I have stored. This works in 2 out 3 attempts. But on the next reboot I may have to recover my image again (using MS backup). I have a dmp file that I am going to upload. I don't even know how to open it let alone analyze it. Maybe some one can point me to the problem. Right now I suspect my graphics adapter.

Well, if you suspect your graphics driver, try updating the drivers.

I can't see real cause. Maybe one of the experts can give a better solution.

Try opening an elevated command prompt and running sfc /scannow. That will scan for bad system files, repairing as necessary.

I'm a novice with CSS but can get so far.

I have developed a CSS that contains link, visited, hover and active tags.

They work great. However, I want to apply different link, visited, hover and active tags to specific text on the same page, still using CSS. I want both sets to work in parallel.

Any hints for how to do this - or even if I'm wasting my time or something - please let me know.

BTW, I've got the CSS in an external file.

Thanks for any help you can give.

A:CSS blues!

You can do it with CLASSES.

Your extenal css would contain something like this:

A:hover {font-weight:bold; color: #336699; text-decoration:none}
A:link {font-weight:bold; color: #990000; text-decoration:none}
A:visited {font-weight:bold; color: #990000; text-decoration:none}
A:visited:hover {font-weight:bold; color: #336699; text-decoration:none}
A.nav:link {color:#336699; font-weight:bold; text-decoration:none}
A.nav:visited {color:#336699; font-weight:bold; text-decoration:none}
A.nav:hover {color:#990000; font-weight:bold; text-decoration:none}
A.nav:visited:hover {color:#990000; font-weight:bold; text-decoration:none}

"normal" links would be the default...but you could call your secondary class in a link like this:

OK, so into my all-singing, all-dancing new machine, I decided to install a wireless network card, namely a D-Link AirPlus ExtremeG+, part code DWL-G520+.

And it broke stuff, BIG time.

Installed as per instructions, so drivers first, then card. Worked okay until reboot. When I rebooted, the "Preparing Network Connections" segment took about 5 minutes, and upon loading, any vaguely "system" related window (e.g. Network Connections, Add/Remove programs, Program Files or even the contents of C:\WINNT itself) were totally blank. I took the card out and the problems went away.

So next step - put the card back in, problems came back again. So this time I booted into Safe Mode and disabled it there. Now when I boot back into Normal Mode, none of the icons work - I can select them, but can't double click. A friend suggests I clear out my startup menu entirely, and this helps. But now the problem is that my system reboots itself after two minutes.

To try and get around this I've upgraded to Windows XP, but the only difference is that it now TELLS me it's going to shut down, apparently due to the "Remote Procedure Call service terminating unexpectedly". And before anyone cries out "A-HA!", no, I do NOT have the msblast worm. And just as an aside, Windows XP's ability to auto configure a network sucks ***.

Ok due to some probs, i cant really upgrade to DSL. So that should clear up the "Switch to highspeed" speech that people get. Anyhow i have a problem, but i cant figure out if its my modem or my ISP. For awhile now, my connection has slowly been getting worse. A few months ago, i was able to play games like Halo and Svencoop online with out too much lag. And im talkin about servers that hold up to 13 or 14 people at most. My usal ping at most would be 230-280 at most depending on the server. But now, i cant even get into a server without lagging myself off. I dont think its anything normal, because everyone else seems to be doing ok. I cant stay in a server with more then 8 people now without lagging myself into a coma.

It's sad i know, but i used to connect at alittle close to 50.0kbps, now its 38.6kbps. Ive re-installed the modem drivers and i just dunno. At times i get error messages that say "Remote computer did not respond in a timely manner" or "PPV or PPP link settings" or something like that were wrong. Other times, i will connect, but my internet wont be going. It says im connected, but it seems like there is just no communication going through.

Any help would be appreciated.

Iím having a problem trying to figure out an installation of a second HDD on a Windows 2000 Pro.
1. The second HDD has been detected successfully by the CMOS settings as a slave in the primary IDE (Storage drive).

2. The HDD was formatted and partitioned when it did load fine into windows.

The problem that I have is that at start up it reads that the HDD is set up properly, but before windows loads up it shows this error (Disk I/O error status=00000) and then windows hangs and does not load.
The question that I have is what Iím I doing wrong? The HDD is in good shape, the CMOS accepted it correctly, all jumpers and connections are correct. It seems that the problem could be with Windows 2000 Pro.
I really could use some good advice with this conflict.

Just installed XP Pro on my Gateway. Have 3 problems.
Problem no. 1 : Because of my eyesite I always have my screen resolution set at 640 by 480. On the computer with XP it is not avalible. Is there different drivers or a program that will let me make 640 by 480 avalable? If so how do I go about this?
Problem no. 2 : I have 2 computers that are virtually the same. Both have XP Pro opperating system. I am the webmaster for a couple of sites. On one site ( http://www.suziem.com/ ) a country western site, there is a menue at the left of the site. On one computer the menue will display on the other is will not. The menue is an applet code . Is there a setting on the second computer that I am missing to display this menue?
Problem no. 3 : for years I used Norton. When I loaded XP I used it a day or so and then loaded Norton on that PC. It slowed it down very much. So much that I took it back off. Now I need a suggestion on what virus scan will be as good as Norton but not slow my PC down so much.

Just made a fool of myself by paying £5 (8 US dollars) down the market for a secondhand Blu-ray disc called "10,000 B.C" (cavemen v sabre-tooth tigers etc, don't laugh) but neither my DVD player nor my PC drive will recognise it. (I thought I was buying a proper DVD or CD, I've never even heard of Blu-ray).
I daren't take it back to try for a swap or refund, so is there any way I can make it play, for example by somehow extracting the data and burning it to a DVD or CD?

A:Blu-ray blues

BluRay drives use a different laser than DVD or CD to read the disc.

The movie file could be any size up to 50Gb on a BluRay disk.

First Step you would need to use a BluRay drive to read the disk
Step two requires illegal to use in the USA and UK software. Which our rules forbid discussion of.
Third step You would need serious computing power or lots of time to compress the BluRay resolution down to DVD resolution.
BluRay is 1080i or 1080p resolution and DVD is 480P (i) so 1920 x 1080 resolution to 720 by 480 resolution.

My suggestion is return it, if not possible sell it and buy the DVD version.

Third option if you have a HDTV is buy a BluRay player and start watching in videos in HD.

I'm sorry I can't give you better news.

I have a pioneer DVD-Rom drive, model # DVD-115.
I put a dvd in the drive, and it doesn't recognize that theres a disk in there with certain disks/dvds. I put the same dvd in a friend's pioneder drive, and it worked fine.
Now, some dvds that have played in the drive in the past won't play now. I haven't updated anything pertaining to the dvd drive or software that I'm using. I don't think its the sotware, because MOST of my dvds play in the drive.

I went to the pioneer website to download the latest firmware, but they want me to do some crazy things to update it. I have to reconnect the dvd drive on the secondary IDE as a master, and then boot up and install the firmware that way. I will NOT do this, as its illogical. I have my hard drives connected to the secondary IDE, and if I reconnect it all, my drive letters will be all messed up, to say the least. I have Vista Home Premium, the 32 bit flavor. I like to listen to 1.FM 128K Blues when working on the computer. Ever since I installed IE8, WMP won't display the web page, and gives me that error message--cannot display web page. I uninstalled IE8, bt the problem still exists. To heighten the suspense, when I open WMP from Firefox. everything works OK.

Hi All,
I run XP Home on a AthlonXp 2000+ with 1G memory. Some time back I lost the ablility to load programs from a CDRom, although if I copy the CD contents to the desktop and run setup from the desktop they install OK. Also, when I insert a CD or DVD, Explorer opens up instead of Media Player, even though I have changed the settings.
I changed the Administrator account to my name a while back; I am the only user and thought I had full admin rights. Do I need to create another account called "Adminstrator" in order to be able to control my computer?
Thanks, Chris

A:Admin blues

Boot into Safe Mode. The Admin login will be available on the Welcome Screen. Then, go to Control Panel, User Accounts and see if you have Admin rights in your account.

First off thanks so much for the other questions I posted about Athlons, big help. My problem now is with my sound card. Right now I'm running a (dated I know but it works) Creative 128pci. Runs fine, no bells and whistles, very stable. What I planned to do was put in a Diamond mx300. Everything went fine as far as driver installation, all that but when the system reboots it consistently crashes right after playing MAYBE a half a second of the windows boot up sound, the system freezes. I ran in in Safe Mode to take a look and (little shaky on this) I think there was a problem with the Sound Blaster driver (pretty unsure about this). Since I don't have an internet connection on that computer yet (installing cable in 10 days I haven't installed the most recent drivers. I'm hoping someone can give me some things to try so that if I still have this problem in a week I can KNOW it is a driver issue. Thank you for anyone that can offer a little help. System specs are:

64megs generic 100mhz

I'm fixing a computer for a friend that is badly infected w/ Vundo. HI guys,

I recently had a problem with getting a system to recognise a CD-RW. I ended up solving(?) the problem by taking out the LG and replacing with an Acer. However the problem now is that when a rewritable disk is inserted in either the CD-RW or the CD-ROM it causes the system to hang.

The system is an AMD K6-2 500 on a Zida Tomato T530 M/B with 64MB RAM. It has a 40GB HDD.

Any ideas on what causes the freezing up?

What software are you using? Version? Have you updated the software and firmware? Does everything work fine with CDR? Are the RWs causing the problem formatted?

Not much to go on such as what operating system are you using? If you are using windows xp do this:Browse to C:\Program Files\Windows Media PlayerDouble Click setup_wmThat will re-install Media PlayerMedia Player is usually damaged by trojans or spyware.Feel free to download HijackThis and post a log. Download Hijackthis:http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.ziphttp://computercops.biz/downloads-cat-14.htmlIf you cannot reach either site it is available from my signature. You need to put HijackThis into its own folder. It makes backups and they need to be kept all in one place.Click My Computer, then C:\In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder. Put your hijackthis.exe there.

I am having trouble connecting to the internet. My modem is configured for com4 and my computer only has com1. I tried installing new com ports, but it wouldn't let me create com4. It went 1,2,3,5. How do I change the port my modem is set for? I've exhausted my knowledge. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Modem Blues

Hello, Try going into Start>Control Panel>Settings>Modems.
Under Modem Properties>Diagnostics. This should show your avavailable Com Ports. Almost certain, you should only have Com 1 & 2. My Internal Modem is on Com 2. Check in hthe Modem Properties and see if any modem is shown. Sometimes there will be multiple, you only want 1 installed. This may be creating a conflict. Remove modems from this screen. > You may want to pull that modem out or disconnect if external. Plug back in. Do a full shutdown and restart. See if the operating system can detect the new modem.
I'm not sure if this will be of any benefit, but hope something works out for you.

I need help !

I have installed an Hp cd rewriter 9700 series , and the installation as well as the working is perfect . Now while I was going through the manual, I read that DMA should be selected and if my system supports it , then on reboot it remain or else the the check box will be clear once again. So I did the following---- device manager-cd rewriter - properties - settings - selected DMA --and then the problem started on reboot just before arriving at the desktop the sytem would again reboot and the thing would go on and on. I started in safe mode and went into settings of the cd rewriter and found that the DMA checkbox has been grayed out .

I switched off the machine and and disconnected the cd rewriter and it booted ok , once again I checked in the settings and the dma checkbox was grayed out .
I rebooted with the cdrewriter , but once again the same thing constant reboot.
Then I uninstalled the cdrewriter software and rebooted , but no luck as long as the cd rewriter is connected the sysytem would keep rebooting .

Last but not the least --fdisk-format and all over installation win 98 and then the system was back to normal..

My question is that if dma is not supported and then such a problem appears then what is the solution other than reformat????

I tried the same thing with my cd rom drive and when I rebooted the system was fine and the dma tick box was empty.( no support)

I'm having several problems with a new computer (XP Home Media). The first is that I cannot install all of the windows updates. I get this message:
"Security Update for microsoft.net framework, version 1.1 Service Pack 1 will not install."
It keeps trying to install it, but fails.

The second is an issue with an AVG free file that will not stay deleted. I uninstalled AVG and installed Kapersky, but the add-in manager for AVG in Outlook, which I un-check, re-checks itself. Then I get the error message "the add-in C:\progra~1\Grisoft\AVGfre~1\avgxch32.dll could not be installed or loaded" when I try to open Outlook. I have deleted the extend.dat file numerous times, but it keeps re-appearing. I uninstalled AVG in the first place because it would not complete the installation on the new computer. The Kapersky scan did reveal a trojan, which it deleted. Any suggestions? Thanks - Leslie.

I formated my HD drive and found that I couldn't run XP from my CD-Rom. For some reason my CD-Rom wouldn't run with the XP in it, thats without any OS (I did make it so I booted from CD on start up)

I reinstalled Win98 so I had some sort of OS and tryed to install XP right over the new 98 install.

Problem: I got an exception when I clicked on the 'Install XP' from the splash page that comes up when put in the XP CD. It says:
WINNT32 caused an exception in (didn't get the numbers) in KERNEL32.DLL.

Does anyone know how I can get passed this so I can install XP??

Thanks once again.

A:Installing XP Blues

Here is a MSKB article that addresses the problem of installing xp over 9x.
If you are unable to install from the cd you can either download and use the six setup disks for xp, or copy the i386 folder from the cd to your hd and run setup from there.
Note: if you run setup from your hd via a win9x boot disk you will need to copy smartdrv.exe to a floppy and run smartdrv prior to running setup. If you do not, it will take hours to install.
I gather from your post that you are unable to boot from the cd. These are two options for installing xp, hope that helps.
