T470s USB Type-C charging via powerbank?

Q: T470s USB Type-C charging via powerbank?

Hello,

recently bought a T470s, very happy with it so far. Tried out USB Type-C charging from my powerbank and it doesn't react. Is it the cable, the power bank or is it possible to charge through powerbank at all?

Powerbank 10000 mAh, 3.6 V, 36 Wh
Input 5.0 V/2.0 A
Output 5.1 V/2.1 A

Cable - random 2$ Male USB 2.0 - Male Type-C adapter

PS. If it's not possible to charge via powerbank, why would you give it a type-C port at all... Nobody is ever gonna use it for type-C AC power adapter, cause the port is on the right hand side... *palmface*

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: T470s USB Type-C charging via powerbank?

USB-C supports many voltages and there is a protocol for the power supply and the device to negotiate the requirements. You have a laptop that needs 20V and a power bank that only outputs 5 volts. If you look at your charger that came with your laptop, it can output 5V for your phone or 20V for your laptop. (also 9V and 15V) You need a better or smarter powerbank

I just purchased a RavPower 26800PD from Amazon: https://www.ravpower.com/26800mah-Type-C-external-battery-charger-black.html It shows as having 30W of Type-C power for charging USB-C laptops. I have connected it to my Laptop but don't see any indication of charging.  I do hear a tone but see nothing in my battery icon or notifications windows. what I have tried:Fully charged batteryPressed the restart button on batteryDifferent USB-C to USB-C cableConnected laptop with a USB-A to USB-C cableLooked for updates to the laptop (only BIOS is new)The Lenovo USB-C charger works fine.  A key purchase reason for this laptop was to be able to charge over USB-C.

A:T470S Charging with Battery Bank

I have no experience with that charging bank, but it appears to be underpowered.  You need 20V 2.25-amps (45W).  The maximum output at 20V is 1.5 amps (30W).

Dear community, (please bear with me, I am not an English native speaker.) This is not about the "plugged, not loading" issue I found around here multiple times. My Thinkpad will charge via charger only when it is switched OFF. It loads perfectly when plugged via docking station.Batteries are getting empty, power save mode and all that. Pluging two different power units show same result. Behaviour, reproducable:Computer running, info tray says battery 1 in use and battery 2 not loading (or vice versa), no matter if charger is plugged or notWhen charger is plugged while PC runs, the charger indicator light right besides the power plug remains darkOnce my ThinkPad is truly off (shutdown), any of my chargers work just perfectly: orange light while charging, green light when finishedAdditional weirdness: ThinkPad does not start when plugged to the charger. Hitting/pressing the power button at the right of the keyboard has no effect at all. Once unplugged from charger, it boots just as usual. While typing this with 9% remaining capacity, computer shut down. I plugged it to the charger and closed the lid --> orange light. Waited a couple of minutes. Opened lid. ThinkPad wakes up, and I continue writing.Again: charger is plugged, LED light is off again, info tray says not loading/in use. Any ideas?Frederik I am running M$ Win10 Enterprise.

I've read that using a T470s with the USB-C (40A9) 40A90090 Dock connected to 2 Display Port Monitors has problems charging via the USB-C cable and that you also need to connect an external PSU to the laptop for power. I'm in an office setup, so the monitors would be 1080p. Can this be confirmed before I purchase?

My original 45W slim connector charger failed and I decided I wanted to try charging with the Type-C port, which was on option when I originally configured the laptop. I purchased a Karstcave wall charger which claims to be able to charge 61W using all the following protocols PD3.0 / PD2.0 / QC 3.0 / QC 2.0 / FCP / PE2.0 / BC1.2. However when I plug it in to the type C port, I get an error that the power delivery of the charger is insufficient for the laptop (It was only consuming 8W at the time). This is silly since techically this charger is more powerful than the previous one I had. The battery indicator also showed that neither battery was being charged. The charger is listed for PD delivery at: 5V/3A, 7V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/3A, 15V/3A, 20.3V/3AWhat is going wrong in this setup? Is there somewhere I can enable type-C charging? I can't even find a way to know what power level the charger negotiated with the laptop. Does the T470 follow a particular protocol or is it proprietary?

The Spectre x2 12 detachable is capable of charging through the two Type-C USB ports. The HP Type-C USB adapter charges using these two ports. However, no third party Type-C USB chargers (even with Power Delivery specifications) will charge this device. Meaning, there is no benefit to charging via Type-C since this device can only use the HP adapter charger. Another HP device that charges via Type-C USB, the Spectre 13.3 (HP Spectre 13-v151nr), received a BIOS update (F.26 Rev.A; sp77130.exe) in August that allows charging through third party Type C-USB chargers like Google and Apple chargers (see below in yellow;"- Expands support for the USB Type-C adaptor."). I am requesting a similar Type-C charging adapter BIOS update for the HP Spectre x2 - 12-a008nr, to remove the limitation described above. Not allowing to be charged through Type C chargers manufactured by Google and Apple is absurd. If you would please,  use the Power Delivery specifications that these reputable vendors use, and that you also used for the 13.3, and allow this device to truly be fantastic. Thank you! Below is the notes from the BIOS update for the 13.3:Fixes - Fixes an issue where certain keys generate the incorrect character when the keyboard on the system is used.- Fixes an issue where certain keys do not generate a character when the keyboard on the system is used.- Expands support for the USB Type-C adaptor.- Provides enhanced BIOS password security.- Provides enhance... Hi there,  I have recently acquired an T440 [Type 20b6] and everything was working fine until I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro (Three days ago). I initially had some issues which I resolved, however I am unable to resolve the issue with "Battery 1" not charging. It is staying at "0% and not charging". I have tried the following; - Upgrading the Lenovo Power Management  driver to 1.67.13.12 - Removal of the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" driver- Removing the battery and charging it in a Windows 7 machine (works fine) - BIOS/UEFI upgrade to GJET92WW 2.42- Removing the external battery and charging "Battery 1" on its own using Windows 10- I know the hardware is fine because it was charging under Windows 7 I'll appreciate any tips on how I can resolve this issue,  Thanks, XX00A1

Hi! I have a YOGA 720-13IKB (8th gen i7, Portuguese model) for about two weeks, so I'm still testing the machine.Yesterday I tried to AC charge it through USB 3.1 Type-C port (#3 in this picture from user manual, since it's a PowerDelivery port and can be used as a AC power adaptar jack, according to this. The thing is... As soon as I plugged the AC, battery status indicator started quickly blinking in amber (3x blinks). I left it for about 15-20min and it was still quickly blinking (the computer was turned off). According to this table, there's no status "Blinking quickly (amber)" while Charging, so I have no idea what it means. In any case, I believe it was charging the battery, because I left it with around 5% of charge before turning it off, and after those 15-20min it had more than 20% (it was slowly blinking white when I plugged the AC on the "normal" port, #1 in the first picture). So... My question is: Is this normal behaviour? Does the quickly blinking amber mean something bad? Quickly blinking usually isn't good, specially in amber, haha. Thanks & cheers! felgy

Hi,I got and AUKEY PB-XD20 with USB PD (Power Delivery) 12V 1,5A - 18W.When I connect it to my yoga it charges it for few seconds than disconnects. Repeating the cycle over and over. The thing is - when I turned Yoga off and leave it connected to this power bank time the % of the battery is going up.When Yoga is up, after few cycles it gets crazy and hangs - forcing me to restart it. Can someone at Lenovo take a look into it and allow to charge it with some lower wattage while off? I do not want to break anything, but this cycle is probably worse than constant power delivery.

Hi,

I am planning on buying a portable wall charger/powerbank and I just want to make sure it won't reduce my phone's battery life in the long run. The phone I have is a BLU Energy XL, which came with a 9V/2A charger that plugs into the wall. However, the powerbank that I am most interested in provides 5V/4.8 or 5V/3.0A (or Qualcomm 3.0, which I am actually not sure about the tech specs) and most powerbanks in general I believe provide something like 5V maximum from USB type ports. In looking up some articles, I discovered that one should try to match the voltage of a replacement power supply (in this case, analogous to my powerbank) to the original power supply because otherwise this may impact the battery's lifetime. Is that true?

In general for my knowledge, how does one convert between something like 9V/2A and 5V/3A in terms of the impact it has on a battery? I can kind of conceptually understand the impact that current has in that it really sets an upper limit for the Amps that a power supply can find and the higher the amps for a given voltage, the faster a device will charge. Not really sure about the impact of voltage? Can one just compare the power of the different chargers like 9*2= 16 watts vs 5*3=15 watts?

Thanks in advance!!

I have an x230 and in the Power Manager I have "Custom charge threshold" enabled, with "start charging when below 15%" and "stop charging at 98%". In doing this I am assuming if I left the laptop plugged in the battery level will oscillate from 15%, to 98%, then drain away back down to 15%, recharge back to 98%...... etc. However, the battery is charging up to 98% and then simply remaining at 98%. I do not want this because it's bad for the battery health. I would like the battery to drain charge, as per what the Power Manager settings state. Anyone know why it's not? I am using Windows 7, 64-bit

Actually the battery will discharge very slowly below 98% until it eventually reaches 15% and then the recharge begins. The issue is that this discharge is extremely slow, perhaps 1% per week.

That said, if you want to maximize battery health, the charged threshold should be well below 98%. Some people recommend cycling between 20% and 80%. This is certainly better than going to 100% (or 98%.)

But Lenovo Battery Manager's default thresholds are something like charge at 60% and stop at 65%. If you run the X230 mostly on mains, I'd recommend Lenovo's very conservative thresholds.

Hello and peace on you..
I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.
Please, i'm seeking for help

A:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

i have been using this laptop for 2 years i get it from my friend .

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.

Things i have tried

1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.
