I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

How to force IE 11 to ask for saving credentials again for just one web site, after having accidentally sellect not to remember password for that particular site. Please, take into account that:

- I'm totally aware that storing credentials is not a good security practice, but in my particular case this is what I need to do.

- I know that reseting IE or similar approachs will do the job, but doing that I'll lost more tan 70 web sites credentials. I need a solution not involving loose all the web credentials stored.
- I also know that there is way to do the trick "lying" to IE using a modified but similar username, but this only works in some web sites, depending on the kind of login mechanism used. In my particulare case this trick also does not work.
- I also know that there was a registry hack for this particular problem, but this does not work with IE last versions.

Any help would be very apreciated.

Hi,

I recently suffered a trojan virus attach and ultimately have changed my password on my email server.

I have tried to reset it to the new password in Windows mail multiple times. It keeps reverting to the old password as the saved password, and I continually have to retype in the new password. I tried resetting the password to nothing, and rebooting, and the old password comes back again.

There must be a preference file or an ini file that I can edit. Can I do that without loosing my address book, etc.?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Trouble resetting password in Windows Mail to new server password

You might try clicking "Apply" before "OK" in the same window that you entered the password. (I'm guessing that since you are using Windows 7, your email program is Windows Live Mail, not Vista's Windows Mail, although the procedure would be the same anyway.)

Hi,
I've got an annoying problem with my Wi-Fi settings in Windows 7.
Recently I got myself a wireless D-Link router and a Realtek USB Wireless adapter for my PC. I had a bit of a problem setting it up due to annoying WEP/WPA keys and then I found the ASCII key option and got it working. However Windows 7 seems to forget the settings for my wireless connection every time I restart the computer(wrong security setting and old WPA key that doesn't work anymore because I changed it). So I guess it keeps going back to the settings I had previously. How do I get it to remember my working settings? I've already ticked that checkbox "Connect automatically" in the connection settings but that did nothing. Is there some sort of way of tricking it into remembering my new settings? It's just a hassle having to set it every time I start Windows.

A:Wi-Fi settings keep resetting

I don't have a computer with wi-fi with me right now but the procedure is very similar in Windows Vista. Go to the Network and Sharing and on the left-hand side, click on "Manage Wireless Networks". After that, remove any networks in the preferred list by clicking on each one and removing them. After that, you should be able to click on "Add" and then click on "Add a network that is in range of this computer and follow the steps in the wizard to connect.

If however when you go to "Manage Wireless Networks", you don't see a preferred list of any kind, then please provide a screenshot of it because as I said, I don't have access to a computer with wi-fi right now.

I can't get my IE7 to keep web page settings (ie. my login settings for this forum) so I don't have to keep re-typing in my logins. It works on the new PC that I have at work. I am thinking about resetting the default settings. I checked the add-on list and it is pretty long. If I reset to defaults, it says that it is going to wipe them out. Will it automatically reload as needed or will it just further screw up my IE7.

Hey everyone,

I am having some trouble with my computer at home. It's my mothers 200(3?) Dell dimension desktop: old pentium 4, 256 MB of RAm, integrated intel chipset video card. My aunt messed with the display settings and got it stuck on 640 x 480 and so I followed the troubleshooting directions to fix the resolution. I set it to 1024 x 768, 8 bits of color, and was prompted to reset.

Here's where the trouble begins: after the bios startup and the windows xp loading screen I am getting no display. I can hear the start up tone and can see the processor working, but have no display. In order to troubleshoot I have tried resetting, loading in safe mode (didn't load), toggling video from automatic to onboard, as well as flushing the CMOS by removing and resetting the battery. Any suggestions that would not involve reinstalling windows? All I think I need to do is reset the display settings without entering windows.

Thanks!

OK, so I have a question guys. Over the last few weeks I've became a Pro with lots of things, I know more about RAM, CPU's and overclocking then I ever have. and I know more about Overclocking on Nvidia boards then the average person by a long shot. lol. I'm finally stable. but I keep having all my settings get reset.

Here's my problem. I have my PC set so that It does NOT require a password when it Wakes, only on boot. but every few days it resets and starts asking for a password. also i have the power settings so that the display turns off after 30 minutes, and the PC goes to sleep after 45 mins. But that auto;s back to 20 minute display and sets to NEVER sleep.

I have a theory, it's probably a pretty good one, and very possible. but I'm not sure. I know these somewhat advanced machine's us people call computers have a thing where they remember stuff (LOL)
So should it be remembering it. Or is it VERY much possible that all my different settings, and trial and error of overclocking, and the often times I overdue it and my system Crashes. Is this whats causing all these settings to get messed up. I overclock it, or it crashes during a Prime95 test or something. that could be it, not sure tho.

I did try for 3.8 GHz a few days ago and it froze, I had to hit cmos reset. that probably killed all my settings, but I've only done that once. So whats with all the other times. So is it possible that all these crashes have been changing my settings, or should they not be getting ... Read more

@Char-Lee Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! If Vista is what came preinstalled on this laptop, then the general way is to press  F11 while rebooting and when the HP Recovery Manager starts up, select the option to do a factory reset. IF that doesn't work, that means your Recovery partition has been corrupted and you would have to use HP Recovery Media disks to do that -- but HP does not stock Vista recovery media anymore.Since  HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, a couple of other sites you should check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/Before using the media, read through this: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00006110Good Luck

I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 8. Whenever I shut it down and restart, the desktop settings get reset. For example, there's a Touch Keyboard option on my taskbar and I choose to remove it. I right-click the taskbar>properties>toolbars>uncheck touch keyboard
After a restart, it comes back. How do I keep that from happening?

A:Desktop settings keep resetting.

Hi,

This seems like quite unusual behaviour, it is most likely caused by some setting by one of the manufacturer's programs.

You might want to look firstly in the programs installed already by toshiba for the preference that is casuing this, otherwise, a quick fix that may help in your situation would be to just prevent the adding/removal of toolbars.

Beforehand, adjust the toolbar's to the way you want them, with the one you dont want removed. After that, proceed with the steps below.
Search > Right Click gpedit.msc > Open it
In the Local Group Policy Editor. Go to the following directory: User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Desktop
Once there find the option called  "Prevent adding, dragging, dropping and close the Taskbar's toolbars".
Right click this option and click edit
Click the enable checkbox and click ok
That toolbar should no longer appear after restart. If you need to add or remove a different toolbar in the future, just disable, make the changes and re-enable.

Hope this helped.

They might have come with built-in factory recoveries. When you boot up - do you see anything about a recovery process or anything similar? Most times they will give you an option at start up. Also, look in My Computer and look for a partition about recovery.

PC's may have came with recovery disks too.

If you are unable to find anything like that - you can wipe out the PC using DBAN (link available in my signature). Keep in mind, this will wipe out everything on the hard drive. So you will have to reinstall Windows.

My computer has become very slow and annoying to use, so i want to reset it back to factory settings.

Here's my problem though, i dont have any system restore points set up when i got it, i was young and naive, and i dont have the disks anymore to reinstall. I don't care about my files, they can all be wiped, i just wanna have a smooth operating computer again.

I would love any suggestions or tips on how to resolve this issue.

No windows 7 disks, no system restore points, don't care about my files, want to go back to factory settings.

Hi I recently got an Win7 Home Premium Desktop. I also had some external USB HDD's which I am attaching to the desktop computer. The problem is the share settings on these external USB drives do not stick, and resets whenever I reboot, and reverts back to not shared.

I have narrows it down to that fact that the USB drives seems to get mounted with a significant enough of a delay that somehow the system looses the share settings. This problem does not happen with the built-in internal HDD, nor did this occur when I had the external USB HDD's on a WinXP system.

Is there any way to overcome this issue?

A:Share Settings Resetting after Reboot

As an experiment try getting the external drives working correctly. Then eject them and kill the power to the drives. Reboot. Power up the drives. See if the shares are still intact.

I used internal drives in USB docking stations. I powered down the docks before shutting down or rebooting. Then powered them up after login. The share settings held up very well.

If the power off technique works then you may need to use batch files with Net Use statements to map drives instead of the automatic reconnect method.

Edit: It's a good idea to use something link sync.exe from SysInternals to flush the drive buffers before powering them down.

I'm runnign Windows Vista Home Premium. A few days ago I did an update via the Windows Update. Since then I've noticed that quite a few settings have just "reset" theirself. Most annoying issue has been file associations have been reset and will not let me set to what I want.

Let me elaborate on the resetting of settings. One is that in the file explorer I all of a sudden had that extremely annoying folder tree panel on the left side. I noticed all of my favorites in IE are magically organized by alphabet instead of by the order I had placed them in.

Today I went to open a plain text (.txt) file and noticed that it was set to have OpenOffice Calc open it. I tried a few methods to set it back to Notepad. I tried just right clicking, going to Open With, and then selecting Notepad while making sure the checkbox for "Always use the selected program to open this type of file" was checked.

Edit:

I also wanted to add that other file associations were changed as well. For example, .doc files were set to open with OpenOffice 3 Writer and XLS and CSV files were set to open with OpenOffice 3 Calc. After the reboot from that Windows Update it was changed to Microsoft Office Excel for XLS and CSV files and MS Word for DOC files.

And yes I have an updates AV (Avira) and anti spyware (Spybot Search & Destroy). Furthermore, I do manual scans weekly with Malware Bytes.

I tried going to Default Programs and then to "Associate a file type or protocal... Read more

A:Latest Update Resetting Settings

I have sort of fixed the file association issue. I uninstalled the latest update (KB2286198). I then restarted the PC. I went back to my Documents folder and once again trying to assign .txt files to Notepad. Once again it still didn't work.

I searched around on the Internet and stumbled upon a program called FileTypesMan by Nirsoft. I ran the program, found the .txt file extension. I double clicked it and under User Choice I set it to Applicaitons\notepad.exe. That did the trick.

However, I am completley baffeled as to how come I could not assign .txt files to Notepad the old fashioned way without the use of a third-party program. I tested it out by right clicking the file, going to Open With, selecting Wordpad, and then making sure it's set to use that as the default program. It opens the text file with Wordpad, however, Notepad is still set as the default program. It seems I'm still unable to set file associations manually via traditional Windows.

I have no idea why but I for some reason the settings I apply to specific folders have been getting reset at seemingly random times.

By folder settings I mean sorting options mostly. I have to frequently re-select my pictures folder to have the option to sort by 'date created' and then select it. It keeps defaulting back to sorting by name. almost all folders have the same problem! it also keeps defaulting back to the "details" option for all folders when they were originally "thumbnails"

A:folder settings randomly resetting

Ok, here's the trick

Navigate to each of the special 'My' folders (Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos) under your user profile

Arrange those folders just how you like them, columns shown, column position, any personalized view, sort, group you decide. These act as templates for every folder of that type (Document/General, Music, Pictures, Videos).

If you have mixed types in 'typed' folders, Windows sometimes gets confused. You might try opening any folder, pressing Organize (top left), press the view tab, and press Reset Folders.

You have probably made your headphones default, and turned off the speakers.
In the taskbar, near the clock, right-click on the speaker icon. Choose 'Playback devices'. In the new window, do you see 1 or 2 items? Speakers and below that Speaker/headphones. Right-click on what is showing, and in the list tick the options, 'Show disabled devices' and 'Show disconnected devices'.
Now you should have 'Speakers' line showing, so right-click on it, and choose 'properties'. At the bottom of the box, you see a drop-box that gives 2 options. Make it to be 'Use this device-enable'. Click OK. That should work.

Hey Guys

This is my first post on these forums, and I hope I am doing this in the right place. Any help with the following will be greatly appreciated!

I am selling a computer that I have had for 2 years but want to make sure any trace of my documents etc are removed before I hand it over to a new owner.

I am running Vista Premium on a Dual Core total 3.2GHz with 160 HD and 2GB RAM. I have a partitioned 'D Drive' which I have been told is my key to finding my answer, but when I double click and open 'restore' on there, all I get is a warning message. There is no 'continue' button or anything that I can see to proceed with.

I am aware that doing this will wipe all of my personal information, but do I need my original Windows disc or anything else to carry out this procedure? I'm sure I have them somewhere, but am not sure where, so to save me searching, I'm hoping there is a way to do this.

Anyway, all help will be greatly appreciated and will really help me out, so thank you in advance!

Chris

I would (since you want all information gone for good) use Dban Complete Disk Eraser to accomplish what you want. This is much deeper than a standard format and makes it even more secure than a regular format. Someone with some skill can retreive data from a disk that is simply formatted.

Please note: Be sure you have all disks unhooked that you do not want formatted and cleaned, because this program while great has the capability to erase multiple disks at one time if hooked to the computer.

It won't go anywhere beyond that. My specs:

My mobo is a Phoenix/Trigem, according to what it had said before. I wish I could be more specific, but seeing as I can't do anything with that computer at the moment, that's all I know. Help!

Also, if someone could help with my video card trouble. Now, if I don't have the card in, I get the above. if I DO put the card in, however, (GeForce FX 5200 PCI 256MB) It boots, but I can only see the mouse cursor on a black screen, and none of my keyboard commands work. If anyone could help me with either/both troubles, I would be very gracious, one gamer to another.

A:Need help resetting Jumper/BIOS settings

In order to reset your cmos you need to do one of two things.

Either use the jumper on the mobo you mobo book should tell you how to do this or take out the cmos battery for about 20 seconds being careful only to hold the battery by it`s edges not top and bottom then put the battery back in and reboot your bios should now be at the default settings.

You may need to go into your bios in order to reset some of your settings.

I am wondering however what affects would be expected to happen to other Microsoft Applications, (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and not IE, if the settings on Internet Explorer were set back to default levels. I have tried to search for this but couldn't really formulate a good search for what I am looking to find out. Thanks for anything you may be able to provide.

A:What Affects Would Resetting IE Settings to Default Do?

I wouldn't hesitate. Any effects would not be detrimental.

My display settings (calibration) keep resetting every time I open/close my laptop. How do I fix it? I need it calibrated very specifically, and every time I log off, or even just close my laptop and then open it again, it resets to the defaults. =/

Hi, I recently modified DEP using bcdedit.exe, and now the options for DEP under the Advanced System Settings window are greyed out. How do I reset it back to its default state? BTW I'm using Vista Basic.

Thanks

I am running Windows 7 RC1 with an Intel G35 onboard video card. I set my monitor's brightness/contrast settings through Intel's software. Every time I restart the computer it resets the settings and my screen on bootup looks washed out. I know this may be due to the fact that Windows 7 is still a release candidate but has anyone else had an experience like this? Any fixes? Thanks.

I have reason to believe that my Graphic card settings have been messed up. Recently Dxdiag has been reporting that I have n/a amount of mem and it states that both DirectDraw and APG Textures are unavailable. Even though last month when I checked Dxdiag it said I had 32(I use a S3 Prosavage DDR Card) and all of the functions where enabled. So is there anyway to reset my graphics card/DirectX settings? Note I have considered reinstalling Windows XP but the problem is that that company I bought my PC from never gave me a Windows XP disk.
Thanks.

Hey, folks. Just upgraded to 10. Not blown away so far, but it's a lot less stupid than 8. Glad they gave it away for free, seems like the fair thing to do considering they actually charged people money for 8.

Anyway, I'm here because my mouse settings keep reverting back to factory every time I restart the laptop. I can't stand finger gestures and tap to click, but they keep coming back like a bad case of herpes. Unlike my herpes, I'm still hoping I can cure this problem.

Any help? thanks!

A:Mouse settings constantly resetting.

have you checked that you dont actually have any pending restarts / updates on your "check updates" part?

I'm not entirely sure if this is the right forum for this problem, but here it is. My girlfriend's Acer netbook ran into an issue of not being able to start up. When she starts it, it goes to, more or less, the blue screen of death. However, when she hits Alt-F10 to bring her to the screen where she could bring the netbook back to factory settings, it won't allow her to. She gets to the Alt-F10 screen, it's not giving her an option to do much of anything. I'm looking to see if anyone knows another way around the blue screen of death to basically reset back to factory settings, if I can by a particular keystroke method, or if installing a new hard drive is the only way around it. (which I've looked and the hd's are very cheap) I'd appreciate any help I can get on this matter, thanks.
