Turn Off Flight Mode & Turn On Wireless Devices

Q: Turn Off Flight Mode & Turn On Wireless Devices

Hi All,
I am using Windows 8.1 and had to refresh my computer as I was experiencing some problems. Everything seemed to be normal so I started slowly installing the programs I had before. Now a few days after, I find that my wireless device is Off and Flight Mode is On. I have been in settings but the relevant switches are disabled.
Can anybody tell me how to fix this please ? I really don't know how it happened. Can it be that my laptop is still infected ?

Preferred Solution: Turn Off Flight Mode & Turn On Wireless Devices

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I have already tried the solutions such as boot up the pc and press shift and such to get a menu and then download somthing on a usb and get into an administrator account. The Administration account I can at least log onto as it's not password protected but I still can't turn on Wi-Fi which basically defeats my whole purpose of using the computer as I use it for gaming. So regarding me not being able to log into my actual account, I've tried resetting my password multiple times without success. I think it's due to the fact that I am not able to connect to any Wi-Fi spots (which I assume is because of safe mode which I can't turn off for some reason) And that brings me to my next point, of I can't connect to Wi-Fi die to safe mode. I have tried to turn off safe mode in the settings but when I press the button for it to turn off it slides back over to the on side. Please let me know if you have any other solutions that I have not tried yet, Thanks !

Hi, I have a problem with my T430s, the flight mode button on the side is broken and flight mode is turned on.What to do? I can't turn flight mode off in settings (as it is "greyed out") and the slider button is completely broken.(I have fixed this button before)I want to avoid fixing the button, is it possible to just disable the flight mode in registry or something like that?

Welcome to the forum!
There's no trick known to me bypass the wifi switch. I think you will need to remove the keyboard and palmrest and manually move the motherboard switch to the "on" position, (the button on the palmrest actually moves this switch)
I just hope the motherboard switch is not broken ...
Check the steps to remove the palmrest in the hardware maintenance manual from Lenovo: click here! Chapter 9 - 1100
Good luck!
Edit: I just opened one of my T430s yesterday and I saw/remembered the switch is not on the motherboard itself but to a small board which is connected to the motherboard via a ZIF cable... I hope you could fix the issue... ;-)

Hi all.

I want to turn off all my USB devices when my computer is off, so I dont have the LED lights on.

I run win7 on a Zotac ION D motherboard.
Any help would be hot

A:Turn off USB devices when off

Any devices that are USB powered should be no problem here - with those that have an external power source some LED is normal to show that power is available.

What you could look at is a "green" power strip, this will power off all devices attached to it when the master device, the PC, is not drawing current.

I have had my laptop for about two years and have always had some problems with the wireless connection dropping in and out (laptop problem, not router). The latest problem is that quite regularly, when the laptop wakes up from hibernation there is no internet connection. The wi-fi logo next to the clock in the start bar says it is connected with full signal but when you click on the logo it says no connections are available (although there should be lots). I don't have the option to disconnect as I'm not actually connected. I have tried pressing the wireless button (F12) and it says it is turning flight mode on and off on the screen but the light remains blue and doesn't change to red so doesn't actually turn flight mode on. I have tried the diagnostic troubleshooter and all it says is that the ethernet cable is unplugged. Obviously it is meant to be unplugged as I am trying to use the wireless! Occasionally, when the wireless just cuts out randomly, the troubleshooter says the Windows wireless service isn't installed (it is) or that the wireless adaptor needed resetting. The only way to fix the problem is to shut the laptop down and restart which is becoming a pain. I haven't installed anything new recently, just the usual Windows updates. I did take the laptop back to PC World who believed I had a faulty wireless adaptor. The laptop was only a month old at the time but PC World refused to fix it for free unless I prove the problem existed... Read more

my usb devices (keyboard and mouse) randomly stop working for a second (the lights of the keyboard and mouse also turn off) and then they turn on again, you also hear the usb connection/disconnection sounds.

I've also noticed lately that my computer suddenly gets stuck for a few seconds, nothing moves, but the screen is on, and I try to press keyboard or move the mouse, but nothing happens, and then it comes back to life after a few seconds.

A:USB devices randomly turn off for a second

I would try a different closer to if not the top number one usb IO slot. Also I would run a deep AV and Malware scan in Safe Mode if needed and see what if anything comes up. Also if the devices have drivers then look for the latest version off the mfg'rs site and download. lastly check the cable for any sharp bends and possible break in the wire which often can't be seen so squeezing the cable all along it's length till you find it connecting and disconnecting more regularly tells you it's a break or loose connection.

Hi Guys,

I have a home built PC running based on ASUS Maximus IV motherboard running Win7 with a Corsair ATX PSU (AX750) all in an ANTEC Sonata Elite case.

On my previous Win XP system I had the USB enabled power bar switching off my screen and other devices when I powered down my PC. With my new setup, the devices connected to the 'switched' outputs of the same USB power bar do not turn off when I power down - it is as if they are connected to the 'always on' outputs.

I'm not sure of the make of the power bar (it is hidden behind my desk and I cannot easily get at it) but I would have thought it was fairly generic.

Does anyone know whether there is a setting in the POST for the motherboard or a physical setting on the PSU that would enable the power bar USB signal?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Lately I have been having problems with my computer.
It turns itself off (it doesn't say "Windows is shutting down..", it just dies.) when I am using it. It turns off after a few hours, sometimes after a few minutes. Then I would have to wait a few minutes until I can turn it on. Because it would not turn on no matter how much you pressed the power button, so the only thing to do was to leave it for a while, and then it world turn on.

But now when you turn on the computer, it turns off seconds after you log in, and then the blue screen of death appears. The next time I tried to turn it on, I got the option to boot in safe mode, and it doesn't turn off. I left it on for a whole day and it didn't turn off.

My computer is a Dell Dimension 5150, running Windows XP Sp2 (I think). I will post more details soon, because the option for running in safe mode does not come up when I turn the computer on. I don't know how to boot up in safe mode because I am a computernoob .
I am typing this on my other computer if you're wondering.
Any help please?

I read here that "hardware manufacturers" can disable encryption on "internal, non-removable ReadyBoost devices": http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ff356869.aspx
I also find the particular setting here, for unattended setup:
specifies an "EnableEncryption" key which defines whether ReadyBoost on internal non-removable devices are encrypted.  Unfortunately it defaults to "true".
However, I haven't been able to find out where I might be able to change the same setting on an already-installed system.  It doesn't appear to be in Local Group Policy, and I haven't been able
to find something like it in the registry either.  If someone can point to where this setting might be changed, it would be really helpful.

A:How to turn off encryption on internal non-removable ReadyBoost devices

Are you using a non-removable device for ReadyBoost? What kind of device is that?
AFAIK you found the correct setting, but you must make sure that Windows defines the storage you are using as non-removable.Ray - Author of Windows 7 for XP Professionals

Hello, this is my first time posting here. I have a hp pavillion 1000 running vistaI have searched everywhere for a solution to this problem, and see many viruses and trojans that sound similar to my problem, but nothing matches it exactly (and no solutions seem to work).I believe the virus came in via a pen drive, though it has infected all of my other usb drives, including my 500 gig hard disk that contains all of my data. The hard disks inside my laptop seem unaffected. For the affected drives, directories at their root levels have been replaced by executables. If I double click these, it still launches into the directories allowing me to access my files. However, it spawns a new windows explorer. Inside the subdirectories, everything appears to be normal and the directories are just simple directories. Only at the root level are they executables. It is also impossible to "show hidden files" in folder options.Up until four nights ago, my computer had been up for over 30 days with no trouble. Now, it cannot last more than a day before all of the memory is claimed. Error boxes pop up from time to time stating "server has stopped working" or "svchost has stopped working".I would gladly just re-install at this point, except that my primary external drive would likely still be infected. I have removed everything from all of my pen drives and reformatted them but it does not solve the problem. When I create a new directory on them, within seconds a n... Read more

reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp" /v UserAuthentication /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
While the above reg key works on Window Server 2008, it does not seem to work on Windows 7 devices as after we deploy the above reg add key and confirm the entry is within the registy, the following options still dont change on the client device even after
the reboot
What reg key can we use to turn on the 3rd option ie., Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (more secure)

I have a bit of a strange issue with my computer. Forgive me if I'm a little too descriptive, but I'm not sure which details are relevant and which are not for such a problem. First, the specs:

Model: eMachines T2984
Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel Celeron D Processor 340, 2.93 GHZ, 256K L2 Cache, 533 MHZ FSB
Power Supply Unit: Bestec Model: ATX-250-12E REV: P7
Motherboard: I can't tell, but it appears to be an Intel motherboard by the number of Intel labels on it
RAM: 512 MB DDR SD originally, added 1 GB a couple of months ago
Let me know if you need anything else...

Yesterday, I got home from shopping around 1PM, and I tried to start the computer. I pushed the power button, and nothing happened. I checked all of the cords, and they were all plugged in. Not knowing what else to do, I opened up the case to see if there was something obviously wrong. The only thing that I noticed (other than a bunch of dust) was that the power supply unit was still hot. I shut the computer down about 5 hours earlier after about 20 minutes of use, so it seemed strange that the power supply was still hot. I unplugged the computer just in case there was some sort of fire hazard.

At this point, I called a friend who suggested that the problem might be with the motherboard or the power supply unit.

A few hours later, I plugged it back in to try to get it to work. As soon as I plugged it in, the entire unit suddenly started "running" by itsel... Read more

A:Computer Doesn't Turn on, Fans and Some Lights Turn on Automatically

I would suspect that the Power Supply Unit (PSU) is going south. If you have a spare one laying around, install it and see if the problem goes away.
You can buy a new, better PSU from Newegg for about $40.00. I have used a Thermaltake 430 watt in one of my machines for some time now and it works well.
You will have to check the size of your PSU to be sure a new one will fit into the eMachine.
Here's the page with that PSU on it. It's the last one on the list.

Ad-Hoc requires that you restart the session each time.

I can't turn my computer on. The fans and lights turn on for a second and then turn off. a few seconds later they'll turn back on and then turn back off. I've had this computer for 4+ months now, i built it myself. it recently started doing this but i'd just turn off the PSU (Power Supply Unit) and turn it back on and it woould fix it. now it doesnt fix it anymore. i've re-slotted the RAM (Random Access Memory) and pushed it in firmly, but that hasn't done anything. i've tried different power outlets and pushed everything into the MOBO (Motherboard), i havent messed around with CPU (Processor) because that's just a pain in the a**... i was wondering if there was anything else i could do before having to take it into a local repair shop, lol.

as for my computer specs

CPU (Processor): Fx-6300 AMD
GPU: R9-270x AMD
RAM (Random Access Memory): 8GB Ballistix sport
MOBO (Motherboard): ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
PSU (Power Supply Unit): Corsair X500 w 80+
Case: Rosewill GALAXY

A:Fans turn on, lights blink and then turn off/on repeatedly.

First, I would unplug everything that isn't necessary. Everything external except for the keyboard and monitor. Internally, just leave the CPU, RAM and video card installed. See if it turns on. If not, you might try and test the power button. Disconnect the power button from the mobo. If the pin headers allow for it, use the reset button as the power button. If not, you can use a flat head screwdriver to power on the computer (cross the two pins for the power button with the blade of the screwdriver). If you do this, just be very careful. Touch only the power button pins and nothing else! You could easily damage components by touching the screwdriver to the wrong thing.

Some motherboards have a power button right on the board that you can press to power on the computer. I looked at a pic of your board and didn't notice one.

If that doesn't do it, plug the power button back in. You might try and play around with the RAM. I don't know if you have 2 or 4 sticks of RAM, but try and boot the computer with only one stick of RAM at a time. If there's a bad stick, you'll find it through this process of elimination.

If none of the above works, then it might be a bad PSU.

This disconnets me from AOL, so I have to sign back on again, and if I was emailing, I might lose my current email.

Under Power Options, I have 'Turn off the display' set to Never for both On Battery and Plugged in. Under 'Put the computer to sleep' I have both On battery and Plugged in set to never. Nonetheless, the display still shuts off while I am working.

Hello Folks,

I'm not sure if my issue is with hardware (possibly MB?) or graphics card, so please forgive me if I've posted in the wrong section. The first problem I was having was random blue screens of death that displayed graphic card driver issues. I was able to remedy that by updating my graphic drivers and have not had an issue since.

However, ever since then I have been running into another hardware or graphics-related issue that is random and completely stumping me. What is happening is, I will be on my computer, leave and turn my monitor off, and (randomly) when I come back to use my computer again, when I turn on the monitor there is no signal and a black screen (e.g. when I turn my monitor on my desktop will pop up and the light on my monitor will turn blue, when it doesn't turn on there will be a black screen and the light on the monitor stays yellow as if it is idle). I have tried swapping out the monitor to see if that was the issue and the same problem persists, so it does not appear to be my monitor or VGA cables.

The only way I can temporarily fix this issue is to reboot/restart my computer and viola! The monitor works again and I can see everything. This issue is very random. Sometimes I can go weeks without an incident, other times this is happening a couple times a week. I honestly don't know if it's my motherboard or video card or what. My PC isn't overheating, I'm not overclocking, and all of my drivers are updated.

I'm not sure what... Read more

By big-brother, I mean MicroSoft's insistance to tie all your accounts together. Like using Facebook, without being forced to tie it to a MicroSoft account.

There is another annoying feature, if you have multiple computers (and I mean even if not sharing).

Someone at work pointed out that their work computer is displaying results/adds/search history, for searches that were done on home computers.

Yesterday, I installed Windows 8 on a work computer and later in the day, my lock screen was using a photo that I use on only one of my other personal computers. I NEVER uploaded anything to "the clowd". Never uploaded the photo to the "sky drive". NEVER sync'd my computer with anything. Yet my work computer grabbed the photo from my home computer.

The other annoying thing is that after installing Windows 8 on a work computer, my home computer suddenly had Bing as the default page, when I had specified another. It appears this 2nd Express install, changed the behavior of my home computer. I'm 100% sure it did.

The reason seems to be only because I used the same MicroSoft email address (account).

1) Is there any way to use Facebook, on a Windows 8 computer, without being forced to tie it to a MicroSoft account. Something tells me that if I post on Facebook, Microsoft can and will grab that info and spew it to wherever they like.

What you want is called a local account. To change your m$ account to a local account: go to settings on the c-bar, then click on More Pc Settings, go to the Users tab, now on the right hand side under your user account it should have an option called Switch to Local Account. Follow the instructions and it will sign you out and change your account type.

Local Account - Switch to in Windows 8

Another alternative is to keep using an m$ account but change its Sync Your Settings options to off. Sync Your Settings is on the more pc settings menu under User way down at the bottom. You can change it to completely off. Or you can specify some settings to sync and some to not. I personally use a local account so I haven't tried this out.

Hi,  I just bought an Ideapad S100.  Working with it in a Notepad doc, I turned "Insert" on by pressing Fn-PgDn, which is how you do it on this keyboard.  But once on, IT WON'T TURN OFF!!!  It's been stuck on since I did this.  The obvious method of hitting Fn-PgDn doesn't turn it off.  I've tried many other keys and combinations, but NOTHING turns it off again.  Is this just a hardware problem with my particular machine? BTW, I'm disappointed that there is no actual "Ins" key.  If I had noticed it wasn't on the keyboard, I wouldn't have bought this laptop.....though I can adjust if I actually keep this laptop.

Nowadays, wireless router is a basic device at home because wireless access point (AP) is required. Sometime, a wireless repeater is also needed in a big house especially that with a big yard. Actually, without wireless router, only a Windows 7 laptop can be turned into a WiFi hotpot or a wireless repeater. Many discussions can be found online regarding how to turn Windows 7 laptop into a WiFi AP or virtual WIFI hotpot, however, the internet surfing is based on a local area connection. If wanna extend a WIFI signal to an enhanced new wireless AP, generally two wireless adapters are considered.

Here, differently, with only one wireless adapter but without 3rd-party software, we can setup a wireless repeater in a Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium laptop with only one wireless adapter. This can boost the wireless signal to smartphones, tablet computers, or other wireless devices. Also, the mobility and flexibility allow extending the signal to a yard or a garage conveniently as you want.

It is known that a virtual wireless adapter can be created with a third party software or only Windows 7 built-in commands. But in Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium, usually the virtual wireless adapter cannot be created or a hosted network cannot be started. I found a specific approach to clear the issues.

We can follow the steps (successful setup in my two Windows 7 Home laptops),

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and th... Read more

here's my problem, I Aam running XP Pro Sp3, tried to boot to safe mode using the F8 key, that failed, would not boot to safe more but normal windows was ok.

So I used the msconfig command hoping that selecting to safe mode there in the boot.ini would force it to boot to safe mode.

Well that didn't work and now I can not get into the system to change the boot.ini file.

I have a 3rd party boot disk that I can get into the computer, and no sure where to go from here. I read about the bootcfg command, but cannot figure out how to use it to change the boot.ini to uncheck the safe mode.

A:how to turn off safe mode using bootcfg

Welcome to TSF!

You'll have to manually edit the boot.ini file.
See post 3 in this thread:
XP Safe mode loop (MSCONFIG)

You can use your disk if it lets you edit text files, or a Vista RE disk can be downloaded from one of these links:
Vista Recovery Environment CD
64 bit Vista
32 bit Vista
Windows 7 from here:

I'm having an issue with my PS4 for a little bit now. Each time I leave it on to charge and turn off the tv, a few minutes later I turn back on the tv and don't see the screen anymore and the PS4 is on rest mode with the orange light on. I can't turn it back on with the controller and can't turn it off. I have to disconnect the power from the outlet and turn back on the power. Of course afterwards I get the message that it was turned off properly and the system has to check for errors before it's back on. Does anybody what is going on? I never had this issue before.

Short and sweet, they don't work unless I do it manually, and the sleep mode is known to randomly jump awake at times too.

Anybody else have this problem or know of something I have to turn on/off for it to work?

I need help fixing this. Right when I turn on my computer, the LAN switch is on for maybe a minute, and if I'm quick, I can use the Internet for that minute. After that minute, however, the little light goes off. I clicked on diagnose why it can not find a connection, and the computer told me the LAN switch is turned off.
If I shut the computer off and restart it in Safe mode and networking, the light remains on and I can go on the Internet.
I have tried to see if perhaps it was some setting I messed with that resulted in that, but can not find any cause for the problem. It just happened out of the blue- one minute Facebook, the next, nothing.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

A:LAN will not turn on without computer in Safe mode

Have you tried going into device manager and see if the network adapter has any yellow shield/exclamation marks beside it?
If there is , right click on it select properties>remove then reboot the computer and windows will reinstall it.

I have a ThinkPad L380 Yoga. This seems like a simple task, but I cannot figure out a good way to get the screen to come back on when I am in tablet mode. The screen times out, since it is in tablet mode the keyboard and touch pad do not work to wake the screen up. The touch screen does not work becuase the screen is off. The power button only puts the computer to sleep or wakes it up. The only way I can get the screen to come on again is to put the laptop back into laptop mode. This is frustrating because I would like to leave it in tablet mode and not put it back into laptop mode.

I just got a new computer and a new monitor. It happened couple times that after putting the computer to sleep mode, when I tried to turn on the computer again, the PC was on but the monitor was still off. When I turned off the monitor and then turned it back on, a message shown: "no signal". I had to turn off the pc and restart it, only then the monitor was on. My question is, is it a problem with the pc or the monitor? I would like to know because both are still eligible for return if there is any problems. Thanks!

A:Help: Monitor won't turn on after standby mode

The "no signal" indicates that the computer has not booted. The signal comes from the monitor itself, so it would appear that the monitor is fine.

Reliability of sleep modes with desktop computers is variable, as the mode was primarily designed for laptops. Its not uncommon for desktop computers to die in their sleep as yours appears to be doing. Just because the lights are on does not always mean the computer has rebooted, it sounds like it goes into a coma and stays there...

Usually its incompatible drivers or hardware, but if the computer works fine with a normal full shutdown, I would doubt that you will get far with a warranty claim. I avoid sleep modes (hibernation and standby) as virtually every system I have has (and thats upwards of 15) has shown some degree of instability, though laptops have been fine.
