Q: Add folder to Outlook navigation pane

Hi all,
Does anyone know how I can add a folder that already exists on my computer to the navigation pane? For example I would like the following folder, C:\emails\, to show up among inbox, outbox and sent items folders.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all. Thanks in advance for whatever help you can give me.

Background -
I am running Windows 7 (Home Premium 64b) with Office 2010 (Home & Bus) on our new desktop PC. Just finished installing both without problem. Have now turned to adding email accounts to Outlook. I added 4 POP3 accounts, using the wizard. The wizard's test mails - and my own independently sent test mails - have confirmed that send/receive work fine in all 4. One of the 4 has been selected as my default account.

All 4 accounts show up in the navigation pane on the far left of the screen. The default account appears at top, with a black arrowhead to the left of its name. Under it appear the standard list of system-offered subfolders: Inbox, Drafts, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Junk Mail, Calendar, Contacts etc. etc.

The other three accounts are listed below this array. Each of them has a white arrowhead to the left of its name. None of these accounts has any system-offered subfolders (Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items etc) listed under it.

Question -
How do I get Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items and the other system-offered subfolders to appear under these non-default accounts in the Navigation Pane? For example, I know (from viewing the same accounts independently on my laptop) that these non-default accounts are receiving mail; however, I cannot view any of this mail because the Inboxes of these accounts are not accessible from the Navigation Pane. I would like all 3 non-defaul... Read more

Hopefully I?m in the most appropriate location for this inquiry.

In my pc navigation pane for my main pc it goes Desktop, then the Libraries (Documents, Downloads, etc), Homegroup, Computer (with the listed drives), then last Network. In my secondary pc between Homegroup and Computer it has ?Admin? with many of the same Library menus along with AppData. I would really like to get rid of this extra file location. It used to also have a download location that was a pain and I changed the paths for that but I would still like to get rid of it totally. I was also able to delete some other things that were empty. I think this must be something the previous owner set up as I don?t think I have ever seen one set up like this.

Not sure but for one thing it appears the AppData in that Admin listing is linked to the User AppData files. I certainly don?t want to delete it if I can?t and cause a mess, but I would really like to clean things up. There is enough confusion and potential problems as it is. Anyone know how to do this? I think this may be the default location for AppData so a path may have to be changed or maybe this is some kind of shared folders situation that needs to be undone. I can make a backup of the AppData files in case deleting it needs to be reversed. Or maybe if this is not really a secondary location using up hard drive space there is a way to hide this listing. Thanks.

Hello Fisgard, and welcome to Eight Forums.

I'm not sure, but it sounds like you may have Show all folders turned on for the navigation pane. Double check using the tutorial below to make sure it's turned off to see if that is what the issue is.

Hi All!

Growing quite frustrated trying to remove the Navigation Pane from some, but not all, folder views.

I'm old fashioned and like to launch programs by clicking on icons on the desktop. I know there are "better" , newer ways to accomplish this, but each of us is an expert on what we want. I've already heard all the arguments about just "relaxing" to the new Windows 7 paradigm, enjoy the "new car smell" ,etc. and I reject them, so please don't reiterate them again.

I also like an uncluttered desktop. My solution since way back in the Win2K days has been to create folders on the desktop with names appropriate to the icons they contain. In XP I could customize each folder's view to have no URL bar, no menus, no toolbars - in other words, just a "box" that held icons. This customization did not effect other explorer.exe windows (typically popped-up via the Windows-e key combo) which would have the full URL bar, menus, navigation pane on the left, etc.

In Windows 7, it seems as if any settings that I apply to an individual folder view apply to all explorer.exe windows. I've already tried the various folder types such as pictures, general, etc. , but no matter what I do, if I remove the Navigation pane from a folder, it removes it from all.

I'm willing to hack as deeply as needed to correct this annoying behavior. I've already spent (wasted?) a full man-day (24 hours in front of the computer over a period of 6 days) struggling wi... Read more

A:Remove Navigation Pane from some folder views?

Hi Again;

Man, this is really driving me nuts! I just can't bring myself to belive that the designers of Windows 7 would provide no mechanism for customizing an individual folder view. It seems insane to presume that the view for one folder would be "perfect" for all folders. If it really is designed this way it represents a huge FAIL.

Any insight at all would be most welcome.

I need to create a Desktop folder on my new Win 7 Home Premium 64 Bit machine that, at its most simplest, would have just shortcut Icons. No preview pane, no menu bars, and especially, no Navigation pane.

I do know how to show/hide the Navigation pane. It appears that it is not possible to hide the Navigation pane in only one specific folder.

I do not want to change the view of Any Other Folders! I wish, for example, to have the Navigation pane remain visible in other folders.

It appears to me that Windows 7 locks us out of being able to completely customize individual folders.

Am I missing some basic understanding?

Are there third party apps to create a simple desktop folder with ability to select the view (i.e. Large Icons, Details)?

Thanks

Often, but not always, the navigation pane in file explorer makes quick up/down motions and in doing so collapses the folder tree in the Library section. As a result I cannot navigate in the left panel (navigation pane) of file explorer as I am not quick enough the click on a sub-folder before the tree collapses. I have the same problem when navigating an "open file" dialogue box which can make opening a file impossible. This happens mostly when disk activity is high such as when search is indexing or my virus scanner is doing its thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am using a desk top machine.

Does anyone know a way to display them permanantly?

I upgraded to Office 2013 a number of months ago and have a problem I can't find the answer to that has finally driven me crazy enough to ask about.

In the navigation pane you have the mailbox with all it's sub folders (inbox, sent, deleted etc.) I collapse the mailbox and work primarily out of PST folders and the Inbox, Sent, and Deleted links in the Favorites section above this.

Randomly the mailbox will expand so I can see all these folders again. Not sure why - I'm guessing it's from things like an email auto-saved to Drafts - when the mailbox expands the main PST folder I use drop out of site and I have to scroll down to them (such a big hassle right?)

Outlook 2010 had no issues with this, you collapse the mailbox it stayed that way until outlook was closed and opened again or you manually expanded the mailbox folder list. Is there a way to keep the mailbox collapsed?

A:Outlook 2013 navigation pane help

I haven't noticed this myself, but maybe if you add these other folders to favorites, it might help. I mean Drafts for example.

G'day Oh Knowledgable Ones..

Please excuse any descriptive anomalies in this enquiry, because I'm overall a PC dummy of 73yrs of age, and definitely not a geek! ...
I have recently been obliged to buy a new PC tower which comes, as it would now, with Win7 and Office 2010.
My enquiry is to do with the Navigation Pane in Outlook. I trust that's the right description for the list of email files running down the LHS of the Pane?
There are three main files there, which can be opened up into files, and sub-files, when created, within them ... (much like OE used to be in my old WinXP equipped PC ... whose Hard Drive bit the dust!)
These three main files are Outlook Data File, my wife's Email Address followed by my Email Address.
Both the Outlook Data File, and my wife's Email Address folder, when opened, list the following sub-files in descending order automatically - Inbox, Drafts, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Junk, Outbox, and Search files. The Outlook Data File also has an RSS Feeds file ... whatever that's used for? ... sitting between the Outbox and Search Folders File.

However ... My Email Address folder, when opened, only shows Inbox ... into which everything goes, both inwards and outwards, with the exception of Drafts, which appear in the Outlook Data File's Drafts file, where, as luck would have it, they can be opened and sent from there later. Any deleted files go into a subfolder titled Trash, which automatically appears as a sub-file... Read more

10 - 20% of incoming emails get a WRONG Received date stamp in the navigation pane. On 15 Dec 2012 some emails got '25/01/2000', on 16 Dec 2012 some were stamped 26/01/2000 and a few hours later in the day '27/01/2000'. The emails originate from different senders including one from management software in this computer. That software sent me 5 emails at much the same time, four of which were stamped correctly but one '27/01/2000'.

Most emails are date/time stamped correctly but those stamped wrongly end up right at the bottom of the chronological list in the Navigation pane because of the old date. They are easily unnoticed.

The 'sent' date/time stamp in the email header always seems correct.

I have a Windows 7 Ultimate dual booting with Windows 8 Consumer Preview on a Dell XPS 410. When I bring up Windows Explorer on the Desktop app, I would like to add several folders to the "Favorites" section of the navigation pane on the left side of the window, as I have done in Windows 7. However, I don't seem to be able to do it. I have tried dragging the folder in the right pane onto the Favorites link, as I do in Windows 7, but nothing happens; the folder is not added to the list (which, by the way, is empty.) I have also tried navigating to the folder I want to add to Favorites and then right clicking the Favorites link and selecting the option from the context menu of "add current location to favorites", but again nothing happens.

On the off chance that it might be a corrupted system file, I just finished doing a System File Checker with the SCANNOW option, but no problem was detected by SFC.

I wonder if this is a bug in the Consumer Preview? Has anybody else encountered this problem? I also would like suggestions for what else to try to correct the problem, if it seems to be a problem with my system but nobody else's...

Here's a picture of the program i used to change it in the first place (Windows 7 theme manager):

A:Navigation Pane and Navigation Bar not showing up!

The Windows Theme Installer is most likely responsible for corrupting Explorer so I would get rid of it. It's isn't wise to install any third-party utilities which modify Windows' system files, at least not unless you have a complete system backup strategy in place such as a disk image.

System Restore cannot be relied on to get you out trouble because old restore points are automatically deleted when the maximum disk space assigned to SR is reached. So a more permanent system backup method is required, especially in cases where corruption is so bad that Windows won't even start.

When I receive an email that has a picture in the body of the email, the picture (.bmp .jpg or other) does not appear. However, if I forward the email I can see the picture. IT cannot figure this out so they rebuilt my PC & it worked properly for about 4 weeks, then reverted back to the same problem. I am not the only person this affects, I just seem to be the only one that is making an issue of it. I suspect it somehow relates to the fact that my Favorites Folder Pane in Outlook also has problems. One day it looks like I set it up to look, the next only my sent items are there, I fix it, the following day only my inbox is there, I fix it. It can stay correct for days at a time, then something comes up missing. It's almost like my profile isn't the same each day. Anyone else come across this?

Hey mate,

You might see if doing a system restore using a restore point dated before this happened may be able to sort it for you.

I'm trying to make it so that Navigation pane would be disabled whenever I open folder shortcuts, such as music, documents, pictures, but I want to keep it enabled when I got to My computer or Windows explorer. However it seems that its either enabled or disabled for all folders. Any way to fix that?

Also, is there anyway to make windows remember each folders individual settings? It seems whenever I open a folder, and resize it, any other folder will open exactly the same size as the previous open folder. I believe even Windows XP had an option to remember folder settings.

This excelent feature we had in XP, was taken out of 7.
In point of fact, the more one uses Windows Explorer the more I hate it.

So far no fix but there are a couple of apps out there that will lock size and position of any window when its re opened.
The best is Zmover .

Hello sunnydays, and welcome to Eight Forums.

This sounds like you could turn on the hide empty drives option to not see them in the Computer window anymore until you insert a disc.

Drives - Hide or Show Empty Drives in Computer Folder

Hope this helps,

I believe that's what it's called, in Windows Explorer there's a load of Shortcuts on the left, how can I edit them, I'd like to remove unneeded things as well.

Also can you modify the shortcuts in the download pane? It has I believe 5 shortcuts on the left which I'd like to customise. In Xp I just used TweakUI to do that, but I don't know anything about Windows 7.

A:How does one modify the Navigation Pane?

Make a screenshot of it. And show which ones you want to change.

Do you mean folder %userprofile%\links ?

Microsoft Word's Navigation pane theoretically has keyboard shortcuts associated with the right-click menu items available there, e.g.:Alt-E: Expand All
Alt-C: Collapse All
In particular, I'd like to know the shortcut sequence to collapse the heading levels displayed to 2. The sequence indicated is Alt-H,Alt-2.

The problem is that I can't figure out how to initiate these shortcuts within the context of the Navigation menu. For instance, when the Navigation pane is active and I use Alt-H, it still shifts focus to the Home tab (the "global" binding of Alt-H).

How can I use keyboard shortcuts to access the menu items in the Navigation pane?

Thanks,
Barry

I have a weird problem with navigation pane. In most of programs the navigation pane is empty (see attached screenshot). It is kind of annoying, every time i have to click on a folder content and then "backup" to where I want to go. Does anyone have this problem or know a solution? Please help.

Best regards.

Try an SFC /scannow from command prompt.

Hello Halfeez, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if running a sfc /scannow command may be able to fix this. It may take running it a few times though.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
