Samsung (SH-224DB) DVD Re-Writer SATA 24x not showing up on XP!

Q: Samsung (SH-224DB) DVD Re-Writer SATA 24x not showing up on XP!

O.K. so here's the deal: I recently purchased said drive from amazon and hooked it up properly and used two different cables and it just doesn't show up in hardware manger, nothing.

I then hunted down some driver files and they said drive not detected.

It opens and closes, but nothing else. I'm officially out of tricks over here. If anyone can make any suggestions as to how this can be resolved please make contact, i'd be most grateful.

Have a great day (or night)

Preferred Solution: Samsung (SH-224DB) DVD Re-Writer SATA 24x not showing up on XP!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I finally found the TSST Win Inquiry tool to determine it was really called a "TSST corpCDDVDW TS-H653N"
I probably don't need drivers for my optical drive but it wouldn't work at all until I fooled with it for weeks and applied a firmware update, which I was able to find.
It is workng now, but driver is Microsoft 2001 and doesn't display correctly in Device manager.
Google of TS-H653N turned up a driver (ts-h653n-driver.2.4.1.zip) at:
http://www.bioticaindia.com/. I tried to register yesterday to two e-mails and haven't gotten an activation from either one so I could download this driver.

Finally to my question, does anyone know where to find this driver.

A:Samsung SATA DVD Writer Drivers

The most common issue we find with these SATA drives is bad cables... To test, obtain the locking SATA cables, or other high quality new SATA, and try once more. We find it astonishing how many SATA cables are causing problems to hard drive and optical drive installations.

Purchased drive in June -- registered (I thought) checked out fine on laptop. After installing a powered USB hub the drive checked out fine on my desktop. Haven't used it since. Went to create a DVD last month. It turns on the blue light and spins a bunch but when you try to open it says -- drive not found??? Moved drive back to laptop -- continues to work just fine over there. I have had the FWManager (a Samsung product) close several times with one of those "sorry for the inconvience". Did a google on FWMager problems -- found out that it is either the FWManager or a registry problem. Uninstalled FWManager (using RevoUninstaller). Reinstalled -- no help. After 3 unanswered EMails to Samsung finally broke down and called yesterday. After over a half hour I got -- "sorry we can't help you with getting your product registerd". "Sorry, it sounds like a registry problem, goodbye". Now THAT is the kind of support I would expect from MicroSoft but I expected better from these guys. Sooo any thoughts/suggestions/help? Man I am in deep scrambled eggs here.

Not only did it wipe the hard drive but when I went to load Vista I found No Bios.
Receiving one long beep and 3 short beeps I clearded the COSMOS and the Bios returned.

I changed the Bios 'Boot loading' around - cd drives - SATA Hardrive - No difference.

My first new build and things were going so well until I switched it on....
The BIOS doesn't recognise any of the SATA devices I have installed.

Added in an additional Seagate IDE drive (400mb) and it sees that no problem at all.

Changed the power cables around to see if that was the issue with the SATA drives and it wasn't.

The dived into the BIOS, Under Integrated Pheripherals

IDE Controller - Enabled
SAT Contoller - Enabled

SAT Type - tried Native ID and AHCI, didn't bother with RAID. With AHCI selected I tried SAT port 4/5 as IDE and connected just the VelociRapture to port 5.
Tried all combinations of the above 2 drives , 1 drive....and still no joy, the drives might as well be on another planet.

The Gigabyte MB manual clearly states that it supports 5 x SATA 2.0/1/2/3/4 upto 3Gb/s.

Looked on the web and it appears others are experiencing problems but I couldn't find a post which replicated a new build, most where adding in drives to an existing system.

I have access to a IDE DVD and floppy drive if there're needed. I will be loading Windows 7, ideally onto the VelociRapture, with the Seagate SATA 1.5gb for storage.

Can anyone help....although the answer I bet is simple I am running out of ideas!!

I have a fairly new and rarely used Samsung Speedplus+ DVD writer. Its just a year old and the only time I used it much was to install Windows XP. After that maybe 2-3 times for a few minutes. Now yesterday when I tried to use it, it would not detect any CD or DVD.

I checked Device Manager and there was no error or problems as such. I uninstalled it and reinstalled but nothing happened. The device seems to be working because I can see the green light plus when I put the CD or DVD and when I eject it, I find the CD has been rotated.

I removed the DVD writer from the tower, unscrewed it and cleaned the lens but it still wont work.

I downloaded the autofix file "MicrosoftFixit.dvd.RNP.11234282769864797.1.1.Run.exe" and ran it but even that didnt fix it.

In the Device manager, the name is given as TSSTcorp DVD-RW TS-H662
but in BIOS, the name is mentioned as TSSTcorp DVD-RSWHT6. Should that be a problem ?

I am using a Samsung CD Writer having a speed of 48-24-48 on my Pentium Celeron 1.7Ghz on Windows 98SE having a 256 MB DDR Ram. I am seeing that my CD Writer hangs frequently while trying to read anything from any CD. Sometimes it works fine but most of the time, as it starts reading from any CD whether new or old, a few moments later it simply freezes and the pointer on the screen as well the rest of the things simply freeze on the screen. This lasts as long the CD is in, and when finally I eject the CD, the freezed computer screen unfreezes and everything seems normally. This happens again and again on every 8 out of 10 tries on trying to read anything from any CD.

Can anybody figure out whats wrong with the CD Drive. Sometimes it also hangs while trying to write to a CD but it is quite infrequent as compared to the system freeze it gives while reading any CD.

Can someone help out.

Hi, I have just built a new computer and have the NZXT H440 case but unfortunately you couldn't fit an internal cd/dvd writer so I have bought a Samsung SE-208GB external drive instead and connected to a USB 2.0 port. It works fine but it has very slow read speeds and seems to take a long time to rip an audio CD into iTunes (when compared to my old PC's internal drive).

Does anyone know the reason for this and if it can be fixed? I am using Win 7 HP 64 bit btw. It's a new install of the OS but is fully updated and with SP1.

I updated Samsung 552H firmware from 08 to 10 and found that my Audio CD
ripping speed reduced to 3-5x from 12-16x. So I went back to firmware 08 and
the ripping speed came back up.

All of a sudden I found even though Nero reported a good DVD burn, the DVD
created was a coaster. Somewhere 1/3 of way the data would be irrecoverable
on the DVDR, 25 DVDR down the drain!

After buying a SONY DVD writer and finshing the job, I started to play with the
Samsun drive and when I changed the firmware back to 10, the DVD writer
became fine with no bad burns but the audio ripping speed dropped to less than 5..

I was ready to return my new Samsung DVD R/W drive (with Lite-On) SH-S182M drive when I started getting X'9C' BSODs as soon as I started booting.
Drive out OK, drive in crash.

I just happened to Google a little and I see hints about driver problems on nVidia MoBos.

Anybody have anything further on this?

I have a KN8E MoBo (Asus I think) and it's worked great so far (1 year+) with 512MB RAM, XP PRO SP2+, a CD R/W drive, Gainward Video AGP (I think with nVidia driver). Never a problem.
I remember when I installed the new MoBo I installed nVidia chipset drivers from the CD shipped with the board.

Any tips appreciated. I hate to send the drive back and then re-invent the wheel.
I did install the suite of SW that came with the DVD burner that included Nero, inCD, etc.

I want to upgrade the firmware of my new Samsung DVD writer (from Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology) to the latest version.
DVD writer Model:
For some reason it will not burn DVD ?RW disks.

So I downloaded the latest appropriate firmware file from cdrinfo.com
Namely SH-S223C_SB04.exe which I ran under win7 (64) bit OS

This executable program in turn started up ?Tsdnwin.exe? installation program which then crashes (freezes) the system.
I had to use the Windows ?Task Manager? to End the Task.

Can this be a compatibility problem for win7 64 bit OS?
Or is my Win7 OS somehow corrupted?

Next I installed and tried ODD FW Liveupdate program and it too fails with an error message :

?that due to a system problem it failed to operate a program by
automatically connecting to it.?

Can anyone suggest what might be the problem here?

A:Failure of Firmware Upgrade of Samsung DVD Writer using Win 7 (64bit)

According to this page, you shouldn't need to worry about drivers or firmware. What I would suggest is completely uninstalling the driver from your Device Manager. Restart your computer. Windows 7 should pick up and install the burner fine.

Don't download driver and firmware files from anywhere but the manufacturers website, problems like this happen way more often when you do that

Hello All, I have two Lenovo s205 laptops both running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and I have a Samsung DVD writer se-s084d (firmware is TS02).
In one of the laptops the blank DVD+R disks are not recognised (from Sony and Verbatim) but it does recognise CDs and can play DVDs too. The CD/DVD drivers seem to be all installed fine (using Control Panel, System, Device Manager). The other laptop works fine and can write to DVD+R and recognises the DVDs the first laptop cannot. Samsung say the device is DVD+R and Windows 7 compatible.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a possible fix? I have looked into the registry; and the upper and lowers filters do not exist at 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318.
I look forward to hearing from you.

A:Samsung DVD writer se-s084d cannot read blank dvd+r in Windows 7 x64

Welcome to Seven Forums Chris.
I am guessing you have only one se-s084d and use it in both netbooks.
Does the DVD writer malfunction in all 3 USB ports on the one netbook? Try removing and reinstalling the drivers for the drive and try it in anther PC if available.

Just what the title says. This happened when I was trying to add a sata dvd writer to the pc. Terrible mobo. Asus p5ne. Three sata ports and I get a blue screen if I try to use one with a sata dvd player. I have two hard drives one the old IDE version with the pins, and then another with sata. I can't boot the PC off of the sata HD even though that's the one with VISTA ultimate x64 and it runs fine once it comes up with the dual boot screen. I select the vista option and the pc runs fine.

The problem occurs when I try and add a sata DVD drive. I've gone into the setup screen when the PC starts up and messed with all the startups and basically the thing won't take a sata dvd player. I checked multiple articles on this MOBO and no help. I can't update the BIOS, because I don't have a floppy disk. I tried burning it to a DVD but the setup only takes A:\ and C:\. Too bad the C;\ is useless cause if I save the bios to the c:\ and try to access the c:\ on the bios update screen it won't access it. I'm really getting pissed because the MOBO has two useless sata ports. my BIOS version is actually the most stable according to many forums.
Specs for the PC
asus p5ne mobo
6 gb of ddr2 ram
q6600 quad core processor
gts8500 video card.
320gb sata hard drive
80gb ide hard drive
Vista Ultimate x64

A:Sata DVD writer causes BSOD

One reason you can't boot off of the sata hard drive is that the boot files and mbr entries are placed on the ide drive by default when going to install any version of Windows with an ide drive present. EIDE overrides Sata by default. To make the sata drive bootable you first have to unplug the ide drive and then install Vista on the sata.

With an ide hard drive present the other thing that comes into play is seeing the ide drive automatically set as the default boot device in the bios setup. When going into the bios>boot or boot order section highlight "hard drives" and press the enter key to bring up the list of hard drives(internal, external) installed or plugged in.

Then move the sata to the top of that list and press F10 or use the exit and save option when going to leave. That will set the sata as the default boot drive.

I need you help to configure my system.
I want to use my 500 GB SATA WD HDD as Master(Win 7 installed) and 80 GB Samsung IDE HDD as Slave (windows xp installed) and LG IDE DVD writer.

For that I tried following different settings but none of them work.

1) SATA with no jumper + IDE disk with master jumper and IDE DVD writer as slave jumper

2) SATA with no jumper + IDE disk with Cable select jumper and DVD writer as cable select jumper

But in both the situations IDE disk and DVD writer did not detected in BIOS and pc boot with windows 7 SATA.

If I use any two then this combination does work
a) SATA with no jumper + IDE disk with no jumper = Work
b) SATA with no jumper + DVD Writer = Work
c) IDE disk with master jumper + DVD writer without jumper = work.

But I want to use all three hardwares together.

Hey, any ideas appreciated - Im stumped. I've never had windows tell me it couldnt install drivers for an optical drive but here we are.

Ive had a pioneer sata dvd drive runnin fine for a while, gave that drive away, had an ide working fine for a bit, gave that away and got a sata again (so i know the computer can take sata optical drives - and dont see why its an issue now)

I bought a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-216.
-The LED works when i insert discs.
-The bios detects it fine on any sata port (tried all 4 on the board)
-When i boot to windows it detects the drive and attempts to install the driver, but fails.
-Device manager shows the drives full name, but has a yellow exclamation mark with error code 39

-Ive been to BIOS and fiddled with the IDE / SATA configs and on any that actually boot to windows, i get the same issue.
-Tried all sata ports, and tried just one hard drive and the drive.
(detects fine in bios (and windows) but windows cant install its driver)
-Tried different cables.
-Tried looking for a driver download - There really arent drivers for dvd drives as far as i can see.

-Found I had a program called DVD43, which i uninstalled. No go.

And thats about it. Theres also been a bit of staring blankly at the screen say what the hell over and over....

Running windows XP SP2.
P4 64somthing dual core processor.
All sata drives, no ide.

I have a 3 month old computer (Dell Optiplex 360) and a new DVD writer ( Memorex - MRX-550L v1) that was bought at the same time. One day last week The DVD was not seen in My Computer, but was seen in control manager with a yellow explaination point. I uninstalled and rebooted several times and with no changes. I then removed DVD and hooked it up to another computer via a USB connection. The DVD works flawlessly, I believe I either have a hardware problem (bad SATA cable or socket) or a software problem. Which (or something else) do you think it might be? Thanks for any suggestions.

Do you have an old installation of Windows on your second hard drive? It might be booting from that drive.

so yea recently my power supply was giving me problems and since i still had warranty i took it to the store for a replacement. After they replaced the power supply my Dvd writer drive was showing up as floppy drive on My Computer. and i don't even have a floppy drive installed in computer. So i went to the device manager and disabled the floppy drive and updated my dvd driver. But now it doesnt show any dvd/floppy drive on my computer.

Does it still show a DVD drive in Device Manager?

When it was in the shop the DVD may have come unplugged. And the floppy drive could have accidentally been enabled in the BIOS. Check the BIOS setup and disable the floppy drive there not in Device Manager. Also check that the DVD drive shows in the BIOS.

If you can't figure it out I'd take it back again, if they made changes, forgot to plug something in, or broke something else they should fix it for you.

I've been using CutePDF Writer for quite some time and it's an excellent program. However as of recent I've been running into a major issue. Every time I go to print a document CutePDF Writer shows offline. The only fix is to reboot my computer. The issue I'm guessing is when the computer goes to sleep, or the lid is closed, it's making CutePDF Writer show offline. Iv'e tried going into "Devices and Printers" and seeing if I could tweak it that way, however it's not giving me any options. I know this is an obscure program but I'm hoping someone will be able to give me some advice.

If you have XP you could try to do a system restore. This might be worth checking out also

I am trying to install a Lite-On DVD Writer (model LH-20A1L06C. My mobo is a K8V SE Deluxe. Also installed is an IDE HDD and an IDE DVD-ROM drive. The new DVD writer is to replace an IDE DVD writer.

The old IDE writer would cause the system to reboot any time I inserted a disc and tried to access the data saved on it. It was approx. 4 years hold and has worked fine since I built the PC, so I figured the drive had gone bad and bought the new SATA drive to replace it.

However, I can't even get Windows to boot with the new drive. When I plug the SATA cable into the mobo's SATA1 slot (I tried SATA 2, but it made no difference) and then power up, I can get as far as the Windows booting screen, then the system restarts.

I called Lite-On tech support and they told me go into BIOS and turn on the SATA controller. I couldn't find any such option in the VIA bios and the SATA RAID bios doesn't let me do anything because there are no SATA HDD's installed.

So, any help would be greatly appreciated!

A:Windows won't boot after installing LiteOn Sata DVD Writer

I would make sure that the jumpers on the harddrive are set to master an the dvd rom are set to slave, the sata dvd should just fall in line.

Hi, the hd works fine and the Sata 3 has been a nice boost to XP.

The SSD (8 GB) has remained dormant as i suspect XP can't make sense of it and i would need to run Win7 setup to see SSD unleashed.....?

I downloaded Samsung Magician but no luck with that.

Windows XP does not have native drivers for SATA SSD drives.
Boot into Setup (Bios) go to HDD Mode or SATA, change the HDD mode from IDE or Compatibility mode to AHCI or RAID

I recently bought a Samsung 860 Pro with model number MZ-76P1T0. I am using a Lenovo IdeaPad Y700-17ISK running Windows 10. I cloned the new SSD using the Saamsung Data Migration tool which I downloaded from their website. Upon opening the laptop, I saw that there is a space for a 2.5" hard drive (the new Samsung SSD) and a space for an M.2 hard drive (the existing one). I connected the 2.5" hard drive, but when I turn on the computer, it does not show up under "This PC." I can see it through Disk Management, but it says that it is offline because "it has a signature collision with another disk that is online." How can I make the new SSD the primary drive? Is it possible to boot from the new SSD as well and remove the original one entirely? I tried to remove the original hard drive but then the computer wouldn't boot.  I have attached a screenshot of what I see with the Disk Management just in case.

Hello. I am putting together this new custom built desktop and am using an Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark1/USB3.1 motherboard. Everything is showing up fine as it should, RAM amount and timings, etc.. and it even shows the 2 Samsung 850pro SSD's under Boot Priority, but for some reason, when I enable RAID and go to the next screen, it says that there are no drives available to select for the RAID. I may try updating the BIOS to see if this helps, but does this sound like a common issue? I tried contacting Asus support, but just kept getting rerouted. Sigh.

Here is my motherboard link: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_Z97_MARK_1USB_31/HelpDesk_Download/

I will include screenshots of the BIOS, so that you can see. Thank you for your help in what I can do next.

I hope someone can help me?

I live in the UK

I brought a new sata 500 GB hard drive a while ago but after about 6 months it died...

i rang samsung and they sent me a new one under warrenty...

the new one broke a month later!

but now when i tried to RMA it through their website it says they cannot replace it because it was sent from the USA - i emailed them and they said the same thing in their email.

So now i cant replace the drive because they sent it from another country?

is there anything i can do?

surly thats not right - was a new drive and they chose to send it from the USA not me.

Thank you

A:Samsung sent me a new sata hard drive...

You should CALL the company and speak with a live person or two or three to get it resolved.

Have you had your computer physically checked for problems that could be causing the hard drives to fail? If there is no fault in the hardware (or user error)...the drives could have both been from a "faulty batch of hard drives."

Does Samsung have a policy regarding how many drives can be returned in a certain time period?
