I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Samsung 950 and 951 are incompitable with HP Zbook G3 series. Those two hardwares may take long time to boot and much slower than normal boot time.

Hello all! Here is a good one for you: My system: Lenovo Y700-15isk 80NW. I installed a Samsung sm951 m.2 SSD and intalled windows 10 on it as my bootable drive and kept my 1TB HDD in as my storage drive.  My question: how to optimize my ssd to the amazing specs it is supposed to be getting. For instance, how do I get RAID 0 in Bios? I have UEFI already enabled and don't necessary have problems, but I know my benchmark is considerably underwhelming compared to others.  Any help with this along with some myth busting for this OEM ssd would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, All, I have a ThinkPad P50 running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (with the Anniversary Edition update) and 3 drives: the factory 512 GB SM951 NVMe (MZVKV512HAJH-000L1), a 512 GB Samsung 950 Pro NVMe, and a SATA3 1TB Samsung 850 Pro.  The factory SM951 drive is the boot drive. I've had ongoing issues where my boot drive freezes for 3-5 minutes at least once a day, and this seemed to happen about the time I upgraded to version 1.1 of the NVMe driver for the 950 Pro (my second drive).  Looking in the Device Manager, I see that I have two Samsung NVMe controllers, one for each of the two NVMe drives, and the version of the controller is 1.4.7.17.  Have a I made a mistake by having the SM951 using the Samsung NVMe controller (which I believe is only for the 950 Pro)?  From the factory, which NVMe Controller does the SM951 use? Thanks for any light you can shed!

Hi,

I'm not getting full speed from Samsung SM951 NVMe 512GB drive,  while other reported almost double the speed I'm getting from Crystal mark.
I tried everything from using latest Samsung drivers, Microsoft NVMe drivers, updated the bios and disabled "windows write-cache" with no change whatsoever to the numbers.
I'm suspecting the Firmware used by dell cap the drive to reduce the TDP, but getting half the speed is very disappointing.
This is what I'm getting
and these what other people are getting

Hi!
Has anyone installed a Samsung 960 into the PCIe-bus card place?
With success...'

I've seen from previous Dell-site that xps 8920 has been sold with 256 GB ssd pcie x4 dysk?!
What does "dysk" mean?
What type of ssd has that been?
Where has it been installed?
Is there a different bios-version for these PCs vs ones without ssd and only having a 32GB ssd cache onboard?

If successfully able ti install Samsung 960 (with OS and other programs onboard it) is there any use of still having the 32GB ssd cache to remain on the motherboards m2-place? Hence to still be directed to speed up the hdd as is now? Or can the ssd cache only function as intended if the OS is also on the drive to which the ssd-drive is directed to?

On the motherboard there are an m2-slot but Ive heard that this only supports sata-format and is not applicable for the nvme/pcie format?!

Thanks

Sounds kind of like you have BIOS set for RAID but didn't pre-load the RAID drivers.  Either need to pre-load the drivers or switch to ACHI.

How instalas os on it ?

A:Alienware 17 r3 bios see samsung sm951 but windows not.

You may have to use RAID in order to boot from the drive if BIOS doesn't see the drive under AHCI.  If that is the case, you have to re-install the OS as the drivers set up appear to be for AHCI and they use different chipsets to work.  Unless someone has a better answer (which is possible), i'd set it up under RAID and install Windows that way using the RAID drivers.  You do not have to RAID your drives to use the RAID chipset.

Microsoft has released NVMe Hotfixes 2990941 & 3087873 that add native NVMe drivers to Windows 7.
However if I am say installing Windows 7 SP1 on say Samsung NVme drive and Samsung has released suitable drivers in the form of INF, SYS and CAT files, do I really need to integrate these MS Hotfixes in Windows 7?
Can Windows 7 SP1 supplied with Samsung NVMe drivers (Either slip streamed or during install) be able to detect Samsung NVMe drive and install itself on to it?
As the title says are those MS Hotfixes a must (sort of pre-requsite) to get NVMe drive detected during installation, apart from any vendor provided drivers?
Thanks.

I have a Precision t7600 with A12 BIOS.  Asus hyper PCIe card installed with SM951 M.2 NVME SSD.
Currently the system runs flawless, booting from (2) RAID0 sata in LEGACY BIOS mode.
I installed the NVME on ASUS-HYPER PCIe card.  System recognized the SSD right away.  SSD  formats, copies, passes windows tool tests.  Yay - fun and fast.  Ok now I would like to boot from this fast SSD.
I physically disconnect mechanical SATA drives, from the system.
Create usb-thumb windows 8.1 install, and attempt to install to NVME SSD.  After the system partitions the SSD, I click "OK".  The first cycle install operating system to SSD - good.  The system reboots gracefully.  Normally after this step, system SHOULD NORMALLY boot from the drive and continue to install.  On MY system, will fail at this point:

Hello Friends.  I successfully installed a Samsung 950 Pro M.2 SSD as a boot drive just fine.  However, it looks like the Windows 10 NVME driver is being used in place of the Samsung NVME driver.  I saw this post here where it says: "Windows is indicating it is using the NVMe driver for this drive." https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Envy-750se-capable-of-M-2-NVMe-... However I do not know how to determine this myself.  I am using a utility called "AIDA64 Extreme" and it's telling me the driver provider for the 950 is Micrososft and the driver version is 10.0.14393.0.  So, how do I get the 950 to use the Samsung driver instead?  Thanks for any help.

Hey guys,

I'm at my wits end here and hopefully someone can help me out.

I recently bought a Dell xps 8900, a Samsung 950 pro and Able Conn PCIe 3.0x4 for M.2 to install in a PCIe slot on my tower.

For the past two weeks I've been trying to either a clean install of Windows 7 from a thumb drive and by cloning using Acronis and have failed many times over.

I keep getting error messages but the drive is showing up in the bios and in system management so I'l not sure what the deal is.

I called Samsung tech support and the said their migration soft ware won't work because the sad is not install in the M.2 slot on the board and thats why i used Acronis.

When the system reboots, a line of code comes down cash but before it reboots to my other drive a see a few lines that read "ERROR" but that's about all I can read.

Hopefully someone on here can shed some light on what I'm missing.

Thanks in advance!

A:Help with Samsung NVMe 950 pro.

Well, the Ableconn M.2 adapters don't indicate support for Win7:

Quote:
Windows 10/8, Windows Server 2012 R2, Linux series, Fedora, SUSE, Ubuntu, Red Hat native drivers support both PCIe-NVMe and PCIe-AHCI

I have read about 100 different explanations of this process all fraught with scary changes to BIOS and difficulties installing windows from scratch on the card from a sd card. I have a Dell xps 8910 with built in m.2 slot in mb. Currently using slow hdd.

I wanted to ask if this procedure would work.. Please correct my errors

1 Boot into safe mode from MSCONFIG. Hit f2 and go into bios and change from RAID to AHCI. Continue to boot into safe mode. run MSCONFIG again and set to normal boot. Now reboot computer. It should now be AHCI ready for ssd.

2 Shut off everything and unplug all peripherals then install the M.2 card in the empty M.2 slot. (BTW, is there already a screw in the hole on the MB so I can screw down the card after installation) Will I have to open the interior metal "cage" to access the m.2 slot)?

3 Boot back into Windows using the HDD as the boot disk. Will the SSD be recognized as present and empty? I hope.

4. Use the free Intel data migration tool to clone the ssd from the HDD. Shut down.

5 Open up the computer again and unplug the HDD leaving it in place but unplugged from power and sata.

6 Boot up computer. The SSD should be recognized as the boot disk right? or do I have to do something in Bios?

7 Assuming steps 1-6 work shut down and plug the HDD back in.

8 Boot into windows 10 again the ssd should now be the boot disk.

9. Format the HDD so I can use it to store old data.

10. Install faster Samsung driver for SSD.

A:Installing NVME M.2 Samsung 1tb ssd

Before I start, is this a Samsung M2 or a Intel M2 ? I looked at step 10 and said ? Since I've never used the Intel tool, but I do know its from Acronis, Intel may lock out any other none Intel M2 drives. And this could be a problem that you want to avoid. If its an Intel M2 no problem.

In step 6 - You probably will need to change the boot sequence so that the M2 drive is first in line otherwise the system will want to boot from your HDD which is not installed. NOTE: This needs to be done before you replace your HDD.

Then you should be happy.

PS: I have not seen a USB to M2 external connection. If you where installing a standard SATA attached SSD, they do make them for that configuration.

I recently installed a Samsung 960 Pro M.2 NVMe on the motherboard and migrated the OS from the existing HHD.  I disconnected the HHD and the computer booted up and was operating normally with the M.2.  However, when I went to install the Samsung M.2 NVMe controller and the Samsung Magician software, both programs indicated that the Samsung M.2 was not connected.  I called Samsung and the technician informed me that the only time the system won't recognize the M.2 is if the BIOS is set to RAID.  He informed me that the computer would probably not boot up if I reset the BIOS to AHCI and I would have to perform a clean install of the OS.  Both circumstances were true.  Dell ships their computers with the BIOS set to RAID if it has a conventional hard drive!

A:Adding Samsung M.2 NVMe SSD

There are ways to switch from RAID to AHCI without reinstalling -- that said DO NOT try without a complete backup of the system (or that fallback image -- you can always revert to RAID if it fails to work).

I have a samsung 950 pro I am trying to install into my brand new Inspiron 15 7000 (7559) laptop. There was a 128gb M2 in the slot, but it is too small for my programs. I thought the greater speed of the 950 would be nice along with more storage.
The computer does not recognize the drive at all and I have searched and read until my eyes bleed and can't find any reason it should not (or should) work on this machine.
This is the Skylake  version, the specs from Speccy say the PCIe lanes is x16. Here is a screenshot of my mobo.
Has anyone had success with this in the Inspiron? I have updated the Bios to 1.0.3. What am I missing? No matter what I read and try this drive is not showing in bios, computer management, nowhere. Is the drive defective??

A:Samsung 950 Pro M2 NVMe not found

I tried the same with similar results using a Samsung 951 NVMe PCIe 3.0, expecting the Skylake Chipset that support it (checked Intel HM170 before buying) to work..
In fact I found out later is that only SATA III is supported on this machine, so no PCIe NVMe! Unbelievable as chipset should be able to and PCIe is way forward, hope it can be fixed with bios update still somehow. Can't keep my hopes up so I am selling my 951 PCIe!

While I found many posts for other products for this brand I can't seem to find any reliable information regarding nvme ssd support for V5-591G.  Currently I'm using a Samsung 850 PRO 512GB with my operating systems and my data on it and I've been using 500GB external USB 3.0 HDDs for persistent storage. Hi Tech Geeks,  I just purchased Thinkpad workstation P50. Here is my Custom configuration from Lenovo website:Processor: Intel Xeon E3-1505M v5 Processor (8MB Cache, up to 3.70GHz)Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64Memory: 64GB(16x4) DDR4 2133MHz SoDIMMGraphic Card: NVIDIA Quadro M2000M 4GBM.2 slot Storage 0: 256GB SSD SATA3 OPAL2.0 M.2 slot Storage 1: Nothing2.5 Inch Sata Drive slot: Nothing<I will upgrade all the storage with faster and larger capacity ssd's>  I read somewhere that to be able ro configure my P50 in raid-0 , I should order it in lenovo for the RAIDCARD to be added on motherboard if not RAID-0 is not possible for my laptop. Is this information legit? ( I really hope this is not true)I ordered my P50 not in RAID 0 to save money, since I am planning to upgrade it with the upcoming Samsung 960 PRO. My Question 2nd Question is, If RAID-0 is possible Can I configure the 2xM.2 slots in RAID-0 using 2x1TB Samsung 960 PRO PCIE SSD? Is there will be compatibility issue with the connecting ports/motherboard? I read somewhere that P50 does not support Samsung NVME SSD and recommended to use their own NVME. I saw some users that install Samsung P50 in their machines, but other users says that it is not recommended since it will cause harm with the samsung SSD since it is not supported by the motherboard? I just configured and ordered my P50 in lenovo US website  last friday (Nov 25) and will be ship on D... I have a new 7710 that came with a 256GB NVMe SSD.  I have upgraded it to a Samsung 950 Pro 512.  I am using Windows 10 UEFI.
I have a question on the bios setting.  Should it be AHCI or RAID.  The machine came default with RAID On and came with Win 10 Pro pre-installed.
Currently I switched it to ACHI, used the MS Download and installed Win 10 Pro.  Once in windows, I installed all the dell drivers and also the Samsung NVMe driver.
I have read on different forums that the bios setting should be RAID, but also read it should be AHCI.
Question:  Which should it be.  Is one better than the other?
Or is it just that if in AHCI, it will use the MS NVMe Driver (or Samsung NVMe Driver) and if in RAID, it will use the Intel IRST drivers?
I assume if AHCI like I have it, then I can use the Samsung NVMe Driver.  I have read if not in AHCI, the Samsung NVMe Driver will not install.
If I switch to RAID, then I would need to use the Intel Rapid Storage Tech (IRST) Driver and not the samsung driver (I read samsung driver will not install if AHCI).
So I am confused if one is better than the other (AHCI or Raid).
FYI, I have been using for around 10 days and no BSOD due to the PCIe NVMe drive.

A:Precision 7710 and Samsung NVMe 950 Pro

I own a Precision 7510 and am in the same situation. I did exactly the same except that I left the BIOS setting to Raid ON. When in Raid ON the Samsung Magician can only do the following:

Disk drive information for all installed disks. Particularly with the NVMe drive S.M.A.R.T. is not functioning even though it should be. All other drives display S.M.A.R.T. correctly.
Performance Benchmark. Only this function is selectable. All other functions are not available. Probably because the Intel Rapid Storage Techonlogy driver is loaded and not the Samsung NVMe

From performance view it seems pretty fast. Today I am going to change the BIOS setting to AHCI and I will share my results.

Hello, I bought my P50 in October 2016. It has a SAMSUNG 961 OEM NVMe SSD (SAMSUNG MZVKW1T0HMLH-0000). The Firmware version is CXA7100Q (the drive shipped with this firmware). Since a few weeks I'm experiencing slow performance issues (Windows 10 Pro, 1803). Reinstalling didn't help. There have been some throttling issues as well which is a known bug of the firmware my drive has:https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/samsung-sm961-ssd,4608-5.html. This issue has been resolved in a later firmware version. There are newer firmware versions out (the latest at the time of this writing seems to be 7L6QCXA7) but the P50 NVMe Firmware update utility does not include this firmware for the 1 TB version of this drive (only for models up to 512 MB).   Is there any way to obtain the latest firmware for the 1TB version/are there any plans to include the 1 TB model firmware in one of the upcoming FWNVxx firmware update utility versions for the P50 model? Regards, Marcel

I wish to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 onto a Lenovo P50 which is equipped with a single new (uninitialized) 500GB Samsung 970 PRO NVME device. My work on this so far is based on a very similar thread from last year (but following that thread did not produce a solution.) https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P50-NvME-SSD-Fresh-win7/m-p/2276066 I used the Gigabyte utility mentioned in the posting in this thread at 02-07-2017 11:43 AM. The result was a USB 3.0 bootable device intended to enable installation of Windows 7 64-bit with inclusion of USB 3.0 and NVME driver. That utility completed without error. Problem: The installer once running does not see presence of the Samsung 970 Pro NVME device as an option onto which Windows 7 could be installed. I was able to verify that the Samsung 970 Pro NVME device is visible to the P50's BIOS as a boot device (obviously it is not yet bootable, but it is offered as a device when F12 is pressed at startup). When I temporarily re-installed the existing Windows 7 OS device alongside the Samsung device and started Windows 7 (the device does run but is not available for ongoing use, and is a M.2 form-factor SATA device, not NVME), the Samsung 970 Pro NVME device was discovered as new hardware and visible as well in the control panel computer administration function (I did not proceed to initialize the device for MBR or GPT.) I am going down this route because the Windows 7 recove... A:Yoga 3 Pro can i installing Samsung 970 or 960 NVMe M.2 SSD ???

Hi rajulgpatel,

Greetings.

It is not specific in the hardware manual for the SSD specification but checking with FRU listed (item11 page55). Product specification sheet here shows : SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, NGFF 2280, removable, upgradable too.

I would suggest to have amn M.2 SATA SSD like Samsung PM871 instead of those using NVMe protocols.

I hope this helps answer your query.
Update us how it goes for you.

Regards
