I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: looking for software similar to maxblast but does not require seagate drive

download this DiscWizard | Seagate

when it asks you to buy full version or states you have to have at least 1 seagate HDD--- just hold ALT then the letter T then O ( technical override) then ok
full version to clone or do image backups

I've been using for years

Hi, I'm using the free Maxblast 5 drive imaging app on Win XP Pro and trying to do an image verification of an image I made weeks ago. I get an error saying "Failed to create the scheduled task....error 1722...RPC server unavailable". I followed suggestions on the Acronis site about creating the service to no avail (Maxblast uses the Acronis engine). I see no Acronis service in the list of services and running the Acronis Scheduler (DOS function) did nothing either.

Has anyone on this forum messed with this app? The Maxtor user forum apparently sees little expert traffic, so no help likely there. Seagate and Maxtor both have a similar app using the identical Acronis engine and both have the same problem. Also, when I run it from a Maxblast generated boot CD, all I get is some sort of dump of a lot of DOS mode text then it just stops. I'm sensing a "you get what you pay for" situation.

This stuff is free as long as you have one or more Seagate or Maxtor drives on the system, perhaps that's the problem (being free, that is). It does however, work great from Windows. But if you can't boot, you are screwed. Should I cut my losses, bite the bullet and just buy Acronis True Image ($50)? Or, here's another promising imaging app for $39. http://drive-image-backup.com/image-for-windows.htm?referrer=google&type=GoogleAdWordsSearch

Any suggestions?

A:Seagate/Maxblast disc imaging util problem

I use the Seagate Discwizard that has Arconis in it.
I make all my images by booting into the rescue boot disc and launching Acronis from it.

Just to note that on one computer where I installed a new motherboard, the Seagate rescue disc would not recognize my hard drives and I went the route of building a BartPE with the Acronis plugin.
This is not a common problem, however.

Or you might try the free Macrium Reflect.
http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp
I've also used it and it works well for me.

my question is...what is ez-drive...was it something installed when using the maxtor install cd?

how do i correct the issue so i can run PartitionMagic

I'm not sure but I think it is an "overlay" for using larger hard drives on older machines.

As her use is only very occasional, I wondered if there was a freeby OCR program available that would suit.
Would like abbyy finereader of course - but the cost is not justified against her very small useage/needs.

Hey everybody. Basically, my mother (and brother when he uses her computer) is constantly getting spyware/viruses/etc that I have to constantly fix. It is Windows 7 Professional. I decided I just want to completely disable software installs without an admin password. If she wants to install something, I can enter the PW for her if I think she ought to install it and it's safe. (She doesn't install programs often anyways - mostly just Facebook for her - As for my brother, he installs all sorts of pirating/torrent software [compromising my mother's computer and all of the data stored on it], and he will not be allowed to install anything again.).

My problem is I can't get this setup to work properly. I managed to disable software installs on non-Admin users but now all it does is say "This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system Administrator" when you try to install a program, when I need it to always prompt for Admin password.

I don't understand why it does this, I followed all of the steps to make it ask for Admin password to install. But all it does is say that message and there is no way to bypass this restriction on a standard user account. Software installs fine on Admin user account. (Running an installation file as Admin still does not allow it to run on a standard user account). Please help me get this to work, and thank you for any help you can provide!

You can run most 32 bit software in 64 bit. For example MS office 32 bit runs nicely in 64bit.

How old is the software you want to run?

Have you installed it in compatibility mode?

Hi guys, I am looking for a software (if it exists) that does the following job:

For example, I will choose a selection of folders then the software will create a duplicate copy of these folders. Now I have 2 copies of these folders on 2 location (maybe on different partition or HDD), then whenever I update the folders in one location, the other copy get updated as well. Windows Backup may have done this job well but is there any better software provide this feature and with more functionality?

Thanks.

A:[SOLVED] Software Similar to Windows Backup

Do you want the software to update the folders at the same time the original folder is changed or could it update it during a scheduled backup?

You could download and try syncback, or second copy.

If you want something with a lot more options I would suggest Acronis. Its not overly expensive and has many options to choose from.

The FTC says Oracle deceived consumers for several years by promising that updating their Java software would keep them safe from malware and hacking attacks. Until last year, the FTC says, the update tool provided by Oracle did not remove some older versions of Java, which meant PCs were still vulnerable...
Oracle was aware since 2010 [when Oracle acquired Sun Microsystems] that older versions of Java had security flaws that left their users vulnerable to malicious attacks, according to the FTC...
Without admitting any wrongdoing, Oracle settled an FTC complaint by promising that current and future Java updates will automatically search for all older versions of the software. If an older version is found, the update tool will notify PC users of the security risk and provide a way for removing it. Oracle also promised to publicize the danger of leaving older versions of Java on PCs, by posting notices on social media and sending bulletins to leading distributors of security software.

Hi,

I've done a search of these forums regarding disk imaging software and Acronis True Image (11) seems to be highly rated by the majority of people here. I'm interested in purchasing this software but am clueless to how it actually works (I was hoping someone could answer a few questions for me).

Problem / Scenario
I currently have a (12month old) 250GB Samsung SATA HDD. For some reason when booting my machine (Win XP - SP2) it occasionally (1 in 4 times) takes ages to get to the login screen, normally either stalling on the Windows XP progress bar (just keeps cycling round) or just after when the screen goes blank before the login screen appears. This is pretty much a top spec PC (or atleast it was 12months ago) and when all is working fine XP loads in maybe 30seconds, however on the occasions when it doesn't the time is extended to anywhere between 1 and 2 minutes (but it gets their in the end) during which time the HDD LED is flashing constantly.

Now, to me this seems like the drive may have a problem (all though once Windows is loaded I don't notice any difference/problems). So for me the safest bet would be if I can create a copy of my drive as it stands at present (Disk Image?) which in the case of the drive dying will allow me to buy a new drive and using the saved image recreate my system as it is now.

The Questions
1. Does the above software come with its own CD/DVD Writing software, currently all I have is Record Now MAX (which isn't v... Read more

A:Questions: Acronis True Image or Similar Software

For Acronis True Image.

1. Yes, it writes to optical media without additional software.
2. You create a stand-alone bootable recovery CD, no Windows required.
3. Networked drive, External Hard disk, or DVD.
4. Size is obviously dependent on the source size. Normally, a bootable partition will compress to 40-60% of the source size. If you have 20gigs on the source, count on an 8-12gig image file.

I've recently contracted some malware issues, at first related to pop-ups, although I did experience extensive crashing of Firefox for a bit. I used SpybotS&D and Malwarebytes to take care of most of the performance issues, deleted all P2P software, etc. However, programs such as my AV software (Symantec Corporate Edition) and Spybot are unable to auto-update, and other non-browser programs are unable to connect to remote servers (generally the message is something along the lines of "cannot find ____ server"). A:Should Seagate software be used w/ a Maxtor HDD????

If it were mine I'd try it anyway, it just might work! Bill Gates put phony software warnings in Win95 that would popup when you tried installing certain (non-microsoft) products - so you would buy from him. But it was just a fake warning that the aftermarket software wouldn't work, because they did.
That could be the case here - but then again it might not really work - so be careful...

It may not have come with any such software, I've never had to install any when going to a new drive. Have you checked with Seagate or the maker/vendor of the Notebook/Laptop? Basically put, cache is a memory module on the interface board on the drive, holds data temporarily while writing to the disk/s.

trying to reopen the closed: http://forums.techguy.org/all-other-software/841110-low-level-format-software-seagate.html which is closed after wrongly marked as solved

YES, I know that is a 5 yrs old thread, BUT, the above is the third link on Google if you look for seagate low level format, now, some "specialist" named TheOutcaste, say that is no such thing as LLF any more since mid 1990s, and that is cute, BUT WRONG !

I just recovered ... TODAY, 2 HDDs, one Hitachi 200G and one Samsung 160G, using their own software, BOTH SOFTWARE, MADE THIS CENTURY, and both having LLF in it, AND IT WORKED ... REALLY !
and, unlike the above user, I don't talk non-sense be cause I also use mhdd, and before LLF I had a lot of bad timing sectors (response time over 150ms) and after LLF, I got no sector over 50ms

sadly Drive Fitness Tool can test any drive but LLF only works on IBM-Hitachi drives, same thing with Samsung software

unfortunately there is no such LLF option in seagate software all I can find is "Disk Wipe" and that is NOT LLF, I tried both SeaTools and Disk Wizard

also (speaking about 90s), I'm kinda pretty sure that you need a program that is aware of the drive manufacturer, be cause until today I didn't believed in LLF, most of it be cause I saw it in some laptops BIOS, and there it was doing NOTHING ! (and again, we love ya mr. TheOutcaste, those laptops had multi-cores, so, no way they was around in the middle 90s)

so, anyone knows a s... Read more

Just FYI, a warning story I bought Lenovo Thinkpad P51 and after upgrade it has 3 drives: Samsung MZVLW256HEHP M.2, drive that came with laptop with Windows 10 Pro, no any changes are made, just usual Windows installation for some software I need sometimesSamsung 960 PRO 512GB, additional drive I bought to install Linux Ubuntu, the main drive I work withSeagate FireCuda 2TB SATA 2'', additional hybrid (HDD+SSD) drive I bought to keep some files, distributions, archives, videos So I mostly work on Ubuntu booting from additional Samsung 960 PRO.  Samsung MZVLW256HEHP that came with laptop was used for some Windows software like Lenovo Companion, Lenovo Settings, some Windows-specific software. I also installed Samsing Magician to monitor health of Samsung 960 PRO (it ignores all other drives). It worked like a charm for a month until.... I decided to install Seagate SeaTools from official site to monitor Seagate FireCuda. As I said it has SSD cache inside so I expected to see some specific information that doesn't exist in a smartctl report. I downloaded SeaTools from official site and installed it on Windows. Then I run SeaTools and it started to scan something (no any specific actions were made at this moment). Then Windows hanged, then it went to BSOD, then rebooted.  That was the last time I saw Samsung MZVLW256HEHP in BIOS nor anywhere else. It disappeared. BIOS started to wait 3-5 minutes on start, possibly it waited for some response fr... Read more

Hello,

I have 2 Seagate Free Agent external hard drives that I use for backup.
One is that older brown case type, that stands vertically.
The other is a newer style; silver case, lighted logo, and lays flat.

I am running Windows 7, the 64 bit version.

I now have these hard drives plugged in continuously as it is a pain to plug them in and out. They are used for backing up and storage very infrequently, so they just grind away all the time for really no good reason.

No sleep or hibernate software came with the units, but I did see the following on the Seagate site:

FreeAgent Classic Desktop Software
File Version: FreeAgent-DT-WW.zip

Apparently this download provides the sleep function that I would like.

Question: it says for 32 bit systems ONLY.

But, I am running a 64 bit OS, although I imagine nearly all my applications
are 32 bit. How does this work; is the OS smart enough to know that the Seagate application is 32 bit only, or does Seagate truly mean that you have to have an (only) 32 bit OS ? Think it'll work ?

Anyone happen to know of any other software available to provide a sleep or hibernate type function for external HD's ?

Thanks,
Bob

My question is in refrence to external hard drives. Is there an external hard drive out there that has similar properties to that of a flash drive. What I mean by this is can I get an external hard drive that I can drag items to it to save and just as easily access the file by opening the drive. So far I have two external hard drives and they are both similar in the fact that I can back up my files on them but I can't access them on the hard drive itself, I would actually have to recover files on my computer. Can anyone enlighten me on this issue.

A:External hard drive similar to flash drive?

Yes there are lots of external USB hard drives out there but I find even on Newegg that alot of them get crappy reviews for having bad software or not syncing correctly. They can get into very large sizes however like up to 2terabytes or more depending on what your budget is
That is a 640gb external hard drive pretty simple to use just plug it in and store your stuff. including data files for when you backing up your pc. Personally I shop at Frys Electronics they always have good deals but newegg has a big selection and sells things cheaper than Frys alot of the time

Apparently I need 5 posts to start doing links so below this post is the link to the external drive

Hello folks ,,,
i h a 30 GB Seagate U Series 5 : ST330621A ...HDD and i want to do a complete LOW LEVEL FORMAT on my HDD.
I tried to get the software for the Seagate website ,,but couldn't find one.... (except for installation n use manual manual ) i think i h few to many bad sectors in ,my HDD.
The main reason beign i hvn't tried this LLFormat n whenever i try to do full format from Win xp CD it gets stuck n doesn't proceed further, so every time i just do quick format wiht NTFS extension, (Windows xp wont write on any bad sectors)
This problem of bad sector started when one friend gave me a pirated Winxp Vista version, that has Vista like features but runs Win xp, now i m using a Genuine Winxp i though what the hell its original n wont give any problemClick to expand...

so i want to wipe everthing out n start from scratch. I h heard of few names like HDD wipe , KillDisk etc.... Can someone suggest me some fine ware which is absolutely 100% safe n easy...( which u urselves h tried out )

i can do basic thing in command prompt,,,,,but every Bootable Ware has its own command,,that i can manage...
Can someone suggest me something ,,,,

I still have one Windows95 PC in addition to others. My issue is with the Windows95 machine. I cannot access my backup hardware.

Before I go on, let me say, bottom line, that I desire to be legal in all my dealings.

Sometime toward the end of 1999, I purchased a SONY SuperStation tape cartridge backup device and a copy of "Backup Exec" software for desktop created by Seagate. Now the Veritas company owns that software, but now uses that software name for an up-to-date (and more expensive) network backup system. And beyond posting some patch and upgrade downloads, Veritas doesn't support my old software.

At some point in 2000 or 2001, I had gotten dazzled with an ad for "Backup MyPC" software by a company called "Stomp" and downloaded a trial version. I liked it.

What apparently happened is that this trial software somehow must have either commandeered the ".exe" for "Backup Exec" and I didn't realize it at the time, or I did something else in error. Eventually, the software trial period for the Stomp "Backup MyPC" software expired. Although I thought I had purchased it, apparently I hadn't. And because I had moved on to newer systems, I hadn't done any backups on the Win95 for a couple of years or more either, so I was totally unaware that I had a problem until now.

Now I wish to use my old Win95 machine for some programming classes. I want to see what I had backed up before, back things up... Read more

A:Backup Exec Software, old Seagate desktop version

TSG may feel free to remove this string at their leisure because...

I have found someone from whom I might purchase a copy of the software I was seeking. "FREE" would have seemed better, but in researching the situation, I found that I THOUGHT I had purchased it when in fact I had a timed trial version that I had let lapse. My memory of that particular detail lapsed as well apparently. So in reality, buying the software is what's really better.

It is on a computer running XP SP3. Now, it shows up in ?My Computer? but with no statistics and I cannot open it. The drive does not show up in Windows Disk Management. I have gone thru the Seagate website's ?External Drive Trouble Shooter for WinDOWS xp/2000? as well as contacting Seagate Support with no success. I have tried Windows Format, DOS Format, Seatools for Windows, HD LFF Low Level Format, testdisk_win, and Disk Wizard with no success. The drive showed up but they all reported failure in testing and/or accessing the disk. Seatools for DOS sounds like it would do the trick but it didnotrecognizeeitherofmyexternaldrives, theotheroneofwhichisworking. Can anyone recommend a fix? Seems to me that it is a software problem, not a hardware problem, so there should be a software solution. I have very limited funds and can't afford to replace the drive right now. It is used as a backup drive so loss of the data on the drive is not an issue. I'll just run another backup when the drive is restored to health. My boot drive is not backed up on this drive, so that is not a problem.

After Transferring file from Seagate External drive to flash drive 16G. (Verbatim)

I can't remove hardware device on Verbatim Flash drive to remove it.

Even after I close all the files, folders and programs in my computer.
It won't say "safe to remove device".

I have to switch off the computer to remove the flash drive.

Is this normal or what ?

If not what can be the problem ? I can fix ?

Is it safe to remove device even if I can't disable the usb flash drive ?
I closed all the files, fodlers and programs before I remove.

Thanks.

A:Transferring file from Seagate External drive to flash drive

The computer may still be saving data to the Flash. Or it is caught in ROM. If your certain the transfer is complete, you can pull the drive. You may want to do a Check Disk on the Flash Drive to make sure it is in good order.

Hi,

When I switched my Laptop on yesterday the nice Seagate Icon for my external backup hard drive had vanished but has been replaced by a dull looking generic Windows page icon ? This external backup drive is the K:\ drive on my system.

I surfed google yesterday trying to find some advice on how to restore what was a very attractive Icon ? . . but have been struggling to find any advice I could understand or thought I'd be able to follow ?

On a positive note, I have located the exact file for the disappeared icon on my laptop (its called SeagatePortable.ico) and I have copied it to my desktop temporarily, but, I have no idea how to re-apply this icon to my K:\ drive ?

Whilst surfing, I discovered a simple freeware program called "Drive Icon Changer" so I downloaded this program and tried to use it. It is very easy to use, but, try as I might, I cannot get this programme to interact with my K;\ drive ? . . so I've given up and uninstalled that programme, as, in this instance at least, it clearly does not do what it is supposed to be able to do.

I also saw some advice about going to a DOS prompt (I do not understand what this means or how to do it?) and deleting or editing something called the autorun.inf file - I suspect this type of action would be well beyond my understanding and I'd probably do more harm than good if I attempted to edit this sort of system file and got it wrong !

I've also done a system restore - to a back up point of a couple of days ... Read more

A:How do I restore the Seagate Drive Icon for my External Backup Drive?

Also just spotted an obsolete thread on this site where someone suggested:-

"Un-install the driver while the external drive is connected and then rebooted and let windows reinstall - everything should go back to normal when Windows re-discovered the drive".

I don't know if this might cure my problem ? . . but unfortunately I do not know how to uninstall a driver ?
