windows cann't find 'c:\windows\system32\fdisk.com'

Q: windows cann't find 'c:\windows\system32\fdisk.com'

i have a problem that might be caused by some kind of a virus, i receive the following messages after windows starts up directly;
untitled.JPG 109.03KB
10 downloads

1. error message: windows cannot find 'c:\windows\system32\fdisk.com' .make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. to search for a file, click the start button and then click search.

2. a notepad file titled "avgnt - Notepad" : the file written in some special characters, the only english words "This program cannot be run in DOS mode"

3. a notepad file titled "avp - Notepad" : the file has the same content as the avgnt file.

the history of the problem:

* windows running completely normal, then suddenly task manager refuses to open "task manager disabled by administrator", the folder options in the tools menu disappeared and finally, the internet explorer by itself checks the "use a proxy server for your LAN" in the internet options-connections tab and specifies an address and a port.

*windows formated, but then the same problems returned at the same time i finished installing a fresh copy of windows "xp sp 2"

* installing kaspersky failed as the program crashes every time i try to install it, it crashed and opens a notepad file similar to the two files mentioned above.

* only installing Avira Antivir succeeded, the task manager and folder options problems were gone but then i started receiving the messages mentioned at the beginning of the topic, the acrobat reader fails to open as well and finally the avira gives me warning sounds every time i open 'my computer' or any drive within. the internet and the pc performance became slow and annoying.

PS: i turned off the system restore on all drives to run the avira scan , advised to do so on their web site.

should i install the combofixe program. please help ,, thank you in advance.

Preferred Solution: windows cann't find 'c:\windows\system32\fdisk.com'

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Go to this site, and download 'Hijack This!'.

Unzip it, launch Hijack This, then press Scan, and press Save Log

This will generate a text file that will list all running processes, all applications that are loaded automatically when you start Windows, and more.

open that file
Go to Edit | Select all
Now click Edit | copy to copy it

Come back to TSGweb user, Right Click and paste its contents in a new thread so it doesn't get lost

Hello, Headguard
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. We get a lot of people who simply leave, and if there is no contact for that amount of time I will have to assume you have "vanished" .

One machine at a time please. Let's start with the Vista machine. Please run these instructions on the vista machine. When we're done with it we'll do the XP one.

We Need to Run ComboFix

Hello,Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at step 6.Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please be sure to include a description of your computer issues and what you have done to try to resolve them.If you cannot produce any of the other logs, then please create the new topic anyway, include the information that you were unable to produce the other logs and why and include a description of your computer issues. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another Malware Removal Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

Note that the fix may take several posts. Please continue to respond to my instructions until I confirm that your logs are clean. Remember that although your symptoms may vanish, this does NOT mean that your system is clean.

On start-up I get a box saying "Windows cannot find c\windows\system32\9pxswfoqual\csrss.exe" After I click ok then I get a box saying "Windows cannot load or run c\windows\system32\9pxswfoqual\csrss.exe" If I click ok it gives those 2 boxes again then goes ahead and start up. What is it doing and how can I make it stop? It seems to be operating fine otherwise.

A:Windows cannot find c\windows\system32\9pxswfoqual\csrss.exe

That is more than likely a remnant registry or root startup entry for a virus that has been removed.

Click Start, Run, type regedit and press Enter.

Click Edit, Find and type 9pxswfoqual and click find next - if anything is found except under an MRU heading, make a note - then tap F3 key to continue searching. When the search is done, click the 'x' top right hand corner to exit the registry editor.

If nothing was in the registry, click Start, Search, and enter 9pxswfoqual - is that folder found?

My computer was infected with perfect keylogger, it was trying to get me to buy it and i recently got rid of it. During the time when it was infecting my computer it kept me from using most of the tools in my control panel and kept me from changing my time and date. Now it's gone but whenever I try to access these tools i get an error message saying Windows cannot find C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe. I used AVG to remove it and I can see in my virus vault it says found registry key with reference to infected file C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe. I've tried to restore it but it says it failed to restore some files and the "restore as.." button isn't active at all. I've searched every forum I can find and whenever someone has the same problem as me it always turns out to have a different solution. Someone please help!

A:Solved: Windows cannot find C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe

Try running:

sfc /scannow

If you have an install disk, keep it handy.

It may replace things without prompting. Test after it completes.

If you still get the rundll32.exe missing error, download, unzip and copy the file in this attachment to the system32 folder.

I've been having this problem for months, i get 5 messages everytime i start up my laptop and although it doesn't effect the performance (As far as i'm aware) it's annoying having them pop up everytime i turn my laptop on and i can't get them to go away, and no one else i've talked to understands what they mean.

The first two messages come up twice.

First one is,

Windows cannot find C:/windows/system32/xvgsxc/csrss.exe
Make sure you typed the name correctly then try again.
To search for a file click start then search.

So i press ok. Then this message appears.

Could not load of run C:/windows/system32/xvgsxc/csrss.exe
specified in the registery, make sure the file exists on your pc or remove the reference to it in the registery.

These messages come up one more time each before they go away, and cause no problems, i don't think.

Then another box pops up asking me if i want to run the file, called:

N.Install.en.exe
Publisher is LocusSoftware Incorp
Which is apparently in my documents, under my folder, in applications.

I've followed the five recommened steps, but had problems with some of them. First the Panda ActiveScan, during installation my virus protection, Avira AntiVir, reported a infection called:
W95/Blumblebee.1738
Then it came up with a message saying my internet connection isn't working or that i didn't install ActiveX.
I also couldn't install Spyware Blaster, no download boxes opened, but it said on the internet page t... Read more

Hi and welcome to TSG,

This is probably the Backdoor.Prorat so it would be best to post a Hijack This Log.

Please do this. Click here: http://www.sherrylynn.us/HijackThis.exe to download Hijack This. It’s very important that you save it to its own folder on your hard drive, such as program files (not temporary files or the desktop), so that it can create proper back-ups and be able to restore them if necessary.

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”. Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad. Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET, most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed. Wait for someone to analyze the log and advise.

Just today I booted up my system and right at startup i received this error:

"windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebyw.exe' "

and then it was followed by this warning:

"Could not run 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebyw.exe' specified in the registry."

at first I ignored it and my computer started doing screwy things. I tried to "print" a webpage as an adobe pdf file to my desktop and it gave me this error:

"Windows cannot accesss the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." the title bar of the error was labeled adobe Acrobat 7.0\Distillr\Acro Tray.exe. I also had my desktop magically disappear and had to manually turn the computer off.

Mind you I wasn't having ANY of these problems the day before. Here is my hijack this log. The fix of copying it to a different place lets it run, but just gives a few empty windows (as if the program is running but not getting the correct data!).

In any case, I really want to get a "normal" Windows 8 (if such a thing exists) where the various recipes for running the task manager work!

One possible explanation is that there is something (maybe in the registry) telling something else to launch, which wants and cannot find the old & infected rundll32 file.

Why do you think you are no longer infected ?

This means that the C:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe file is missing or corrupted. See if running a sfc /scannow command can fix this system file for you.

Springganusa,

You don't, it's a virus

Please go to this site, and download 'Hijack This!'.

Unzip it, launch Hijack This, then press Scan, and press Save Log

This will generate a text file that will list all running processes, all applications that are loaded automatically when you start Windows, and more.

open that file
Go to Edit | Select all
Now click Edit | copy to copy it
Come back to TSG, Right Click and paste its contents to this thread and someone will have a look at it for you

I have been getting an error message for months saying system 32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close, send error report don't send error report. This happens when windows screen first appears when you turn the computer on.

For the first time I run a virus checker yesterday the EZ antivirus one and it deleted 91 infected files which when I looked were all worms - whatever they are.

Now when I start up the computer it takes longer to get to the windows screen and I no longer get the system32.exe has encountered a problem error instead I get 'windows cannot find system 32.exe, please specify path' or something like that.

Can anyone please help?

I have had to restore my computer recently and I run norton anti-virus, it so far has not detected anything. I'm going kind of crazy here since all I can find about system 32.exe tells me its a worm/virus.
I would really really apperciate any help.

Windows 2000 Cannot find system32.exe My computer got a bit buggy. Cleaned with SpyBot. Norton detected trojan system32.exe but couldn't delete. I downloaded The Cleaner 4.1 which found several trojans (HideWindow and Aristotle) and deleted files that were hiding in C:\WINNT, including system32.exe and nt32.ini.

When I restarted my computer, after I get the big Windows 2000 screen, I get a flash of a blue screen message (so quick that I had to take a digital photo of it to get the text). Basically, it's telling me the computer is seaching and cannot find file system32.exe. The computer then restarts. This is now on a loop (procedure repeats) and keeps going and going.

Help? I thought I was on the right track until this happened!
Thanks

A:Windows 2000 Cannot find system32.exe

Since your computer will not start, I would try a repair install of win2k. This will leave all data and installed apps intact. To do this boot with your win2k cd [cd set as first boot device in the bios] The first menu gives you the option to install or repair; do not choose repair it brings up the repair console, not what you want. Choose to install. The next menu shows you any previous win2k installs and will offer to repair it for you; let it do so.

After you do a repair install of win2k, you will need to reapply sp4, any critical updates, hot fixes and or patches. I also reapply chipset / mb drivers.

For some reason my PC can not find Windows\system32\rundll32.exe needed for accessing display properties, internet options.

I tried using system restore which seems to have no effect. I downloaded Regcure and found that the system has 9 errors in COM/ActiveX, 1 error in uninstall, 1 error in Shared DLL entry, 2 errors in windows startup items, 257 errors in Path File Reference, 291 errors in Empty Registry Item, 6 errors in Program shortcut.

What, if any recommendations do you have that would be free or as cheap as possible to solve this problem? If I need to replace a file, how do I go about doing so?

Hello and welcome to the forum,

I think its video driver problem. Update your video card or onboard driver which ever one you have.

vga plugs into motherboard (monitor cable) (vertical plug)
pci or agp graphics card toward bottom of tower in a slot (horizontal plug)

you should beable to find the info:

start
run
type
dxdiag
under display tab
