Satellite Pro S300 - How to enter supervisor password?

Q: Satellite Pro S300 - How to enter supervisor password?

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro S300-11Y laptop and have a problem. A day, I decided that wanted to set a supervisor password for the bios of the laptop. Now, I remeber this password, but when I entry to the BIOS setup, I can't view any option for change o disable this password. I can't entry this password for set it me a supervisor, and also I can't modify some options as for exemple, the boot sequence.

How can I delete this password or how can I login as supervisor? I don't see any option for it, and I need to modify the boot sequence.

A lot of thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello

About this I can only say check your user manual!!! ;)

There I have founded the following information:
+C:\Program Files\Toshiba\PassowrdUtility\TOSPU.exe+
+This utility lets you do the following:+
+Register, delete or change the supervisor password+
+Create or invalidate a supervisor password token+

Check this and then you should be able to delete the password if you know the current.

Have a Satellite PRO S300 (PSSB0A-06500T) which is BSOD-ing with Stop 7B and I want to get into the full part of the BIOS so I can reset boot order to enable me to re-install Win XP.

Esc - F1 just gets me into the restricted part of Page 1 of the ACPI BIOS set-up. I know the Supervisor password! So how do I get to a password prompt that will allow me into both pages of the BIOS set-up.

I have tried F12 on boot to attempt to get into the boot options on the Toshiba splash screen, but that does not work.

Hi jonol,

If you know the supervisor password, everything is ok. So just access the BIOS after powering on the notebook and enter the password. Now you are in BIOS setup where you can change the boot order, delete the supervisor password, etc.

Check this!!!

Hi all,
I have been locked out of my bios and I don't know the password either. My little brother was playing with my laptop and accidently set the supervisor password. Is there any way I can recover the password or reset it? I really need to change my boot sequence as I just bought a new SSD and need to format my notebook. Suggestions will be highly appreciated.

The following are my laptop details and bios version

Toshiba satellite Pro C660-29W

CPU Intel Core i5 2410M

8GB DDR3 Ram

BIOS: AMI BIOS - Aptio Setup Utility
System Bios ver: 1.50
EC Version: 1.50

Thank you

A:Satellite Pro C660-29W; How to remove Supervisor Password

Supervisor password is very important security feature and some kind of ?user reset? is not possible. You can cancel it but you must know the right password to confirm that you are the real notebook owner.

Toshiba service provider in your country can help you with this. You must just approve that you are notebook owner and they can cancel it for you. Of course you must pay for it.

As far as I know there are several techniques for password removal and it depends on notebook model.

Contact nearest Toshiba ASP and ask for help.

I'm having a problem with a Toshiba Satellite L300D. After I reinstalled the HDD it would beep. To solve this I went into BIOS to look and see if the board had some sort of intrusion setting. When I exited the BIOS and restarted I know get the Enter Current Password (with a blue background on a black screen) with continuos beeps. The thing is it seems to auto enter in 10 characters (*) and then stop. There are no other options.

I have searched unsuccessfully for any info about this and I cant even find where the CMOS is located which I think is soldered onto the board.

Has anybody had any similar experience like this?
I would really appreciate any help its driving me crazy.

Lets start off with this statement, so I don't get a load of replies on how to clear the BIOS PASSWORD. This is the SUPERVISOR Password which is set via the "Toshiba Supervisor Password Utility". So removing the CMOS battery/using the jumpers under the memory won't work in this case.

I have a couple of P755 and A665 laptops that I've repaired, however they have the SUPERVISOR password enabled with various degrees of security enabled in the BIOS.

After hours of google searching and pouring over the internet and looking at schematics for the Compal LA-6061p and LA-6062p motherboards (which are near identical in layout) it appears that there is no "master password" for the SUPERVISOR Password. It would appear that the password is stored in the EEPROM chip which is where I'm unsure which chip it is on the Motherboard for these laptop series.

From what I gather you can do the "not so safe" thing of shorting out the EEPROM chip during boot cycle. Failing that I can simply replace EEPROM chip, if I know which chip to replace, off of a donor motherboard.

So does anyone know a way to get past the Supervisor Password either by jumper points on the motherboard, shorting the EEPROM chip or simply the chip location on the MB?

Hey guys, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad 11e 20DA series laptop.  I know my supervisor password.  The issue is that I can't make any changes in my BIOS.  It ALLLL started when I updated my BIOS with the latest version.  I selected my laptop and model and version from the Lenovo website, selected windows 10 and BIOS, and downloaded the update utility.  It did its thing.  And now I cant make any changes in the BIOS. NOTHING!!  And my laptop doesn't prompt me for a supervisor password.  I know to press F1 when the logo comes on and that it'll take me to BIOS or that it's suppose to prompt me for the password, however, it just simply doesnt do it.  What do I do? I'm unable to make any changes in my BIOS!! Is there a way to flash the BIOS and revert back to an older version or something?  I used to be able to make changes in my BIOS.  What should/can I do?

A:Can't Enter Into Supervisor Mode of BIOS

You may need to contact Lenovo Support directly if it is not prompting for a password, and yet also not letting you into the BIOS as the result of one of their BIOS updates.   They may take care of it for you, but unfortunatelly just removing the CMOS battery will not help. From page 34 of the hardware maintenance manual linked below: Supervisor passwordA supervisor password protects the system information stored in the ThinkPad Setup. The user must enter the supervisor password in order to get access to the ThinkPad Setup and change the system configuration.  Attention: If the supervisor password has been forgotten and cannot be made available to the service technician, there is no service procedure to reset the password. The system board must be replaced for a scheduled fee. ThinkPad 11e 20DAhttps://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/tp_11e_yoga11e_hmm_en_sp40f29949_02.pdf Good Luck

Hi

We bought 12 of these laptops last July I installed Windows XP Pro but have had problems with about 5 of them on and off since. The main problem is no screen output, the power lights come on but no screen output, only way to fix is to hold down power button, shut down and power on and maybe 2nd or third time it works. I have check the VGA settings inside the BIOS and it is set to both as when I set it to auto it was even more of a problem.

I also notice with these 5 laptops there are BIOS issues also I set the SATA mode to IDE when installed XP but every so often the BIOS just resets that and changes it to AHCI this cause the laptop to blue screen, it is easily fixed but I shouldn't have to keep doing this!!!

The last time this happened, this morning the BIOS clock was set to a date in 2008 I know this indicates a flat battery but I am having the same issues on 5 of these laptops possibly a bad batch of BIOS batteries (I understand these things happen).
Has anyone else had similar issues with this model and if so could you let me know please.

Andy

A:Few issues on Satellite Pro S300-121

Are these laptops left alone for a long time? Maybe the CMOS battery is draining, which can happen faster if you leave the laptop in Suspend/Hibernation Mode and the main Battery goes flat.

Hi,

I have the S300-10O computer, and it has Bluetooth, WiFi and 3G, It always startsup with WiFi and 3G enabled but not bluetooth.
I sometimes use 3G and have a SIMcard inserted. I would like the computer to startup with only WiFi so I don't have to turn it off every time I start the computer. It's controlled with FN+F8 but does'nt remember the last settings. I'm using Windows XP.

Does anyone know if it's possible to set it to only start the Wifi? I would rather not disable the 3G card.
And does anyone know if it's sending out mobile signals when on but not connected?

Hi,
I have this netbook for two years now and I need to add more RAM memory, it has 2 GB and is capable to have up to 8 GB.
I went to two local stores to buy a memory stick, but they are not able to find my netbook in their providers, so they have no idea which memory modules could go ok with my pc. I know the RAM module installed is a DDR2 at 800MHz. So, any ram module with these specifications should work fine?
Another question is if my computer is able to read up to 8 GB or I have to upgrade the BIOS (I did not updated, so I have the one pre-installed).
Thanks for your answer and sorry for my english!
Cheers!

A:RAM upgrade for Satellite Pro S300-11Y

Hi manelfera,

The notebook has Intel GM45 chipset and this chipset supports up to 8GB memory. That means you can install 4GB module in both memory slots. As you already wrote DDR2 800MHz is the correct specification.

Theoretically every module with this specification will work but I would recommend buying high quality modules from Kingston for example. I have good experience with this brand :)

BIOS update is not necessary for RAM upgrade so you can keep the current version.

A:BIOS update for Satellite Pro S300

Hi

One change with the new BIOS is the 3G blue LED. This is now on constant blue when the 3G adapter is enabled but not connected to a network, and when connected now flashes constanty at about 2Hz, which is very annoying as it's in the corner of your eye when using the laptop.

I'd rather this was the other way around, so it flashes when on and no connection which is a nice warning that you have perhaps lost the mobile signal, and when connected it is on permanently, or on permanently but flashes off as traffic is transferred.

Do Toshiba read these forums?

Hi, everybody

Thank you in advance

A:Satellite Pro S300 - How to install XP beside Vista?

Hi

As far as I know the XP disk that is delivered with the notebook you can?t make a dual boot system. It?s only a downgrade disk from Vista to XP.
You can try and post your result but it?s on your own risk.

In worst case you have to use a Windows XP that you can buy in a computer shop or somewhere else. Then it?s definitively no problem to make a dual boot system between XP and Vista.
On my Toshiba notebook I have dual boot system with XP and Vista and it works well! :)

Within 30 seconds I get a service guy on the phone and I told him I pressed intentionally the wrong option for business support, because I had been waiting for 1.5 hours in total without success and 3 times in a row the line was cut... He told me that this line was for businesses and not consumers.
I told him the laptop was bought and owned by a company, bought via a reseller and my problem is a buggy BIOS from Toshiba/Insyde and could affect also business laptops..The guy became pissed and wanted to bet there was nothing wrong with the BIOS, because Toshiba would not supply buggy BIOSes.
Furthermore BIOS problems are not covered by warranty and if I wanted to get my laptop fixed I had to send it to a repair company and pay their fee for fixing the result of a buggy BIOS supplied by Toshiba..

I've just upgraded my S300 to Windows 7 (on a larger hard disk) and I notice that the original touchpad driver no longer works.

It's causing a problem because I normally choose 'left-handed operation' on the mouse options. The Win7 driver only allows 'swap left/right mouse button' - doing this removes the ability to click by tapping the touchpad (the driver 'thinks' the machine is using a standard PS/2 mouse rather than a touchpad). I use 2 other laptops that are configured 'left-handed' so don't really want one that works differently.

Do you know if there's an alternative driver available - or alternatively if there's a different way of configuring the touchpad using standard Win7 drivers?

(Unfortunately I can't access the support information on the S300 page of the 'My Product' section - a 'loading' icon appears below a ser of tabs, but nothing loads up).

A:Satellite Pro S300 - Windows 7 driver for touchpad?

Update... I have installed the latest Synaptics driver, but the 'mouse properties' setting is telling me that I have a Synaptics PS/2 compatible touch pad plugged into my PS/2 mouse port. Swapping to left-handed operation produces the same problem described above - the options available are those for a standard mouse e.g. I can alter settings for the 'wheel' (!) but there is no touchpad shown.

Hi

I had this happen with Vista, it seems that Vista is trying to install newer drivers from the Windows Update site.

Warning: this might delete your finger prints and any saved passwords in the utility so if this happens you will need to add them back, make sure you know your windows password as well to get back in.

What I did from memory.

1) Go through the setup and click Finish.
2) Go to Start - Control Panel - Programs and Features
3) Find the TrueSuite Access Manager entry and uninstall that program
4) Reboot the machine.

Then...

1) Go to Start - Control Panel - Device Manager
2) Find the Personal identification devices entry and expand to see the AuthenTec Inc entry, right click it and go to Update Driver Software and use Search Automatically. This should find the newer version that Windows wants to install from the update site, follow the wizard and that hopefully will be the end of it.

I think what is happening is Windows update is trying to install a newer version but as the older version is still on the machine it's setup program is detecting the driver/program has changed and is then prompting to re-install the older version, so you get stuck in a loop.

Hope that helps.

Mind, I'm still ABLE TO type password (i can't see sh** though), after I hit enter Windows IS booting, but it's really weird to see above picture instead of:

My GFX is OK, I tested it with games, benchmarks etc.
BitLocker simply cannot, for whatever reason, use my video card properly and displays those weird lines. After all - it hasn't loaded the whole Windows yet. Than again, it IS a bit strange, as Windows installers tend to work fine.

Any thoughts people?

Maybe its just Mic feedback. Try muting the Microphone, or lowering the volume to about 10%.

I could find a BIOS for this series on the Toshiba US driver page
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/downloadDetail.jsp?soid=2496404&pf=true

The zipped package contains the win based and dos based BIOS version.
Unzip this package and read the readme.txt

There you can find the details how to update the BIOS using diskette

Hi,
I've got a Satellite Pro S300 and it won't extend the desk top to an external monitor / projector, but it will clone the desktop??

so far I've tried:
2 monitors and 1 projector all do the same, will clone but not extend.
Reinstalling the latest display drivers from the Toshiba site.
Reinstalling the latest change drivers from the Toshiba site.

But nothing has worked, I've even checked my colleagues S300 to make sure I'm using the same settings and theirs (2 other s300's) both extend and clone the desktop.

Has anyone seen this before and how did you rectify the problem?

Paul

A:Satellite Pro S300 - Can't extend the desktop to an external monitor

Have you removed the old driver first before you installed the new driver? If not try to reinstall the driver again. Therefore remove the old driver, restart the notebook, use CCleaner to clean the registry and install the new version that you can find on the Toshiba website.

Furthermore I would try updating the BIOS. You can find it on the Toshiba website too.

I hope it works for you.

I can not run Cyberlinks program PowerDirector 9 or previous releases on my Satellite Pro S300-10F laptop (problems with video program DivX as well), while I am using display driver version 7.15.10.1502, driver date 12.06.2008.

Hence, I loaded the latest display driver (version 15.9.5.1502) from Toshibas website (display-20080923125540.zip) and installed it on my operating system Windows Vista Business (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2.

Windows error message:
Driver software could not be loaded. The driver software could be successfully be installed, but when executed an error occured, error code 43.

I installed the display driver, which I got directly from Intels website. This solved the PowerDirector problem, but the display quality was poor, hence I went back by installing a former recovery point.

I would appreciate an advice, how to run the latest driver update.

A:Satellite Pro S300-10F: PowerDirector 9 issue with display driver 7.15.10.x

Hi

Latest display driver can be downloaded from Intel page.
The Intel page provides always the newest drivers for the own chips.

The Toshiba driver page provides display drivers version:
v 14.34.2.4953 for Win XP
v 8.15.10.1883 for Win 7
v15.9.0.1489 for Vista 64bit
v 15.9.5.1502 for Vista 32bit

If you want to get newer drivers then you have to choose one from Intel page.
The driver from Intel page should be installed in device manager.
Means you have to force Windows choosing the Intel driver. This can be done using the Advanced installation procedure. Then you will be able to point to the driver files.

Hi

Some good news. I have the GPS fully working on the Toshiba Satellite Pro S300 with F3507g 3G card. I would think the steps to make it operational will work on any Toshiba laptop with the same card.

It requires new 3G drivers from Toshiba for the card which exposes the COM7 GPS port, some trickery with the COM port to get the card outputting location data (this would have been done by an application from Toshiba if they were supporting GPS), then it will work with any application that understands GPS.

I've used Earth Bridge to check it is working and this enables tracking on Google Earth, see [image here|http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/2262/earthbridgepd2.png] (note I've blanked out my exact location as it pinpoints my front door). This signal was achieved with the laptop by a window.

What I plan to do is make a small application to enable or disable the GPS receiver and will post up some instructions on how to set it all up, which is quite easy other than the Com port trickery which hopefully I can handle with a small free program.

Regards

Phil

Hi there!

I would like to use my S300 10J for acoustical measurements on speakers. (DIY)

For that setup, I'm using an electret microphone, the IBF EMM-08:
http://www.etfacoustic.com/micpreamp.html

for power, this is what it needs: 1.5 - 10V / approx. 0.5 mA

Does the s300-10J supply that or not ?

Anyone that can recoomend an external soundcard that has that supply? (if my laptop doesn't )

Thanx in advance,
Bart Segers

A:Satellite Pro S300-10J - Question about the microphone voltage supply

Hi

I cannot provide you any details about the microphone voltage of satellite Pro S300 because I didn?t find any details regarding the voltage of mic jack but I assume it?s a standard voltage like on other, different notebooks.

As far as I know the notebooks supports external microphone which need 1.5V DC.
So I would assume that the S300 would support this too.

This is everything what I can say about this.

Hi.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro S300-120 Part Number : PSSB0E-05D00UEN

Hi,

My friends laptop - an S300-120 - has been having some problems.

I've replaced a few parts on it before, notably a cracked screen with no problems.

However, it started to refuse to boot saying 'CMOS Battery Failure, Press F1 to enter setup'. Of course you would do this, set the date and time, save & restart only to get the same message. We replaced the CMOS battery with one with the same serial number and now the laptop will not start.

It does one of two things.

It either a) appears to turn on, spins up the disk & CD drive, cooling fan goes to 100%, then flashes the POWER ON led once green then twice orange, at 1/2 second intervals, with no response from LCD or keyboard.

Or b) turns on, spins up disk, does not spin up cooling fan, POWER ON light stays steady, no response from LCD or Keyboard.

I've re-assembled the laptop several times & cannot find any missing connections or obvious signs of damage.

The only thing I can think of is somehow the mainboard got damaged - finding replacements is tricky.

Any ideas?

Hi

POWER ON led once green then twice orange, at 1/2 second intervals, with no response from LCD or keyboard.
Usually if the power voltage in abnormal of the power supply malfunctions the DC IN LED will flashes orange.

So in my opinion it looks like a problem with the motherboard :(
Possibly you will need to replace the mobo ;(

Hi there guys, I'm hoping someone here can offer me some advice.

Firstly, I have a Toshiba S300-12O laptop purchased in January. I've downgraded to XP Pro via the downgrade disk.
I have had zero problems until recently when I installed Sony Sound Forge 8 on the machine. I tried to burn an audio CD using SF8 and the machine hung, SF8 not responding. Nothing worked at all and I had to manually switch off the machine. Had another crack at it and it then said there had been a serious error and the PC had to close etc.
Sent off the error report to Microsoft when the machine rebooted and said it had recovered from a serious error etc.

Could this be a driver issue? I've had a look around but can't find any drivers out there apart from the one that allows you to play DVD's on the laptop.

The optical drive is TEAC DW-W28-RT multi layer. I can open mp3's from the drive on to SF8, not tried burning mp3's or anything as yet.

I've not tried to burn an audio disc using any other utility as yet or actually burned anything at all on any software. SF8 is my overwhelming favourite and I would like to use this one as I do some music editing etc and it is my software of choice. Any advice greatly appreciated guys.

A:Satellite Pro S300-12O - Sound Forge 8 doesn't respond

Hi!

To be honest this program is not known to me but in my opinion you should look for an update on the manufactures website.
Check if the program is compatible with Windows XP.

Last but not least you should check if you have the same issue with another program. I think this is an issue of the program that you use.

Hi

I am using Toshiba Satellite Pro S300-ez2502 with Windows Vista Business.
Sometimes my touchpad stops working for a couple of ten seconds a minimum of 1 time in a day approximately.
It gets a bit annoying, since the mouse pointer won't move by moving the finger on the touchpad.
Can anyone please suggest a solution? Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks
Adil

A:Satellite Pro S300-ez2502 - sometimes touchpad stops resonding

Hello Adil

To ask for solution is simply but it will be interesting to know when this happen. Usually if the mouse is ?blocked? it can be because of some background activity or ?busy? HDD.
Have you noticed HDD activity (blinking HDD) led when this happen?

I mean when you wrote ?sometimes? it is not easy to say why this happen and what you can do about it.

My laptop got "reset" by a Virus removal tool called AdwCleaner last week (WARNING - NEVER run this on your laptop - if could ruin your life!!) :(

Anyway, the upshot of it was I had to take it to a repair shop where they were unable to restore the Windows XP I had been using since I got the machine, and so they had to re-install the original Windows Vista which was the OS when I bought it. (I bought a "downgrade" to XP disc with the laptop)

Before that happened, the battery charging and everything worked fine, but since I got my laptop back from the shop, the battery does not charge.

When I hover over the battery icon bottom-right, it says "3% available, battery not charging".
The battery is installed OK, because if I unplug the power lead, the laptop stays on.

Is there some setting somewhere which is telling the machine not to charge the battery?
How do I get it back to normal?

Cheers,
Mark.

A:Satellite Pro S300-11H: Battery not charging after software re-installation

Guess what?
I?m wondering if the guys installed all the Toshiba Vista drivers which are released on Toshiba EU driver page.
http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?

I?m thinking especially about the software and tools like Value Added Package

I would recommend you also to check the device manager.
In device manager expand the battery area.
Here you should firstly uninstall the
-Microsoft ACPI compliant control method battery
-Microsoft AC adaptor
-Microsoft composite battery

Then reboot the notebook.
Check how the battery charge process would work
In case the new hardware would be found (these would be the three devices uninstalled from device manager) wait until the system has installed the driver, reboot once again and check the charging

Hi.

Just unboxed an NB10-A and applied our standard policy of setting a supervisor password on the bios.
Now when I enter the bios setup during boot it defaults to non-supervisor mode and I can find no way to get it to prompt me for the password to allow me to make changes.
Does anyone know what I'm overlooking? All options are greyed out and I can't make it ask me for a password.

Cheers

Oliver

A:Satellite NB10 - enable BIOS supervisor mode?

> Now when I enter the bios setup during boot it defaults to non-supervisor mode and I can find no way to get it to prompt me for the password to allow me to make changes.

Usually if the supervisor password has been set, you can access the BIOS pressing F2 button.
Now you have to insert the Supervisor Password or you can proceeds with limit access to different BIOS options by pressing the F11 button.

If you have inserted the right supervisor password, you could delete it again in the BIOS security tab.
Usually you have to insert the right supervisor password and have to press ENTER twice just to delete it. Then save the changes

Here an short description what the supervisor password does.
