Hi, I have a HP 250 G3 laptop and I'd like to upgrade the N wifi card on it to a Dual AC wifi card. There are quite a few options available on Amazon but I don't know which one to pick up. Vendors and Users have conflicting ideas. Where can I get sound information about the right AC wifi card? Thanks for your time, Aaron
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Your notebook has a 1x1 antenna. It would have to have a 2x2 antenna setup to use 802.11ac. Unfortunately, That means that an 802.11ac wifi adapter won't broadcast or receive any signal broadcast by an SSID using 802.11ac protocol. I suggest that you save your money and purchase a notebook that already has the capability of using an 802.11ac adapter. This is the list of optionally installed adapters that could be in your notebook now.Read other 3 answers

do you mean a router
or as part of the laptop spec ?
what router do you have and does it work in dual band simultaneously
the advantage of the 5ghz signal is if you are in a crowded 2.4ghz environment then 5ghz helps avoid interference - also the coverage is wider - although the 5ghz router i have linksys - does not seem to be
if your current router only works in 2.4ghz , then no advantage in the short term
some routers are advertised as dual band - but you have to choose between 2.4 or 5 ghz and so ALL devices will need to support 5ghz

So I bought my laptop, a Pavilion 17-f113dx a little over 3 years ago. I am swapping the drive for an ssd drive and I thought while I go to all the trouble of disassembling the laptop that I would change out the wifi card with a dual wifi/bluetooth card to improve wireless performance. I understand that there may be a whitelist in the bios of compatabile cards for a laptop this old. Where would I be able to find that list? Or is there a solution short of installing a hacked bios?
Hi: There is no whitelist, but there is almost a bigger problem... 1. The notebook requires extensive disassembly to get to the wireless card. If you can overcome that, then #2 is the killer. 2. On most of these newer HP notebooks with single band wlan cards, there is only one antenna connected to the card, and there isn't a second one present. A dual band card such as the Intel 7260 N or AC requires 2 antennas to work. It will take even more disassembly including the display panel area to run the 2nd antenna. Do not rely on the picture in the service manual which normally shows two antennas. You will need to physically inspect your notebook's situation before buying a replacement card. If it has two antennas, then you are good to go. I would recommend the Intel 7260 dual band N or AC card for your 3 year old notebook.Read other 1 answers
Ok so i have a shot in the dark question, I am not sure on what parts are avalable for this laptop. I just picked this up on a trade and so far has been a pretty decent little machine. It has stock 2.4ghz wifi, which i know is pretty standard. My question is, is there a different internal wifi card i can replace the stock on with that will give me access to both 2.4 ghz and 5.0 ghz. I have been considering going the usb adapter route for both wifi bands but would like to keep some usb ports avalable without needing to get a small hub. Any info would be Appreciated! Thanks
Hi: Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03593667 Unfortunately the 3 supported wireless cards listed in chapter 3 are all single band cards. Back when your notebook was produced, HP had a BIOS whitelist which prevents any other wlan card from working other than the ones listed in the service manual.Read other 3 answers

I'm having problems with my pavilion 17-G192DX. when I have the wifi on, it works for about 10 minutes, then basically shuts down my home network - TV locks up, no other computers can access the internet. As soon as I turn the wifi off, everything goes back to normal. HP troubleshooting can find nothing...when the thing is working, that is. I'd like to upgradethe wifi card with a dual band unit? I'm thinking the Intel 7260 2x2. Will that work in this computer? Any other options? P/N is V0Q01UA.
Yes you can install any wireless card of the right form factor which for your laptop is an M.2 adapter. See the Manual here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04655191 The 7260ac is a mini-pcie card and is not compatible but you could MAYBE install an Intel 8260ac card: https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-8260AC-8260NGW-Bluetooth-Wireless/dp/B01ERMBDCK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&q... Start on p. 31 with removal of the back cover and read through p. 39. The hesitation is that, to install a dual band card you must have 2 antennae and on some HP models with lower-end wireless cards there is only one. So if you want to do this I recommend open it first and count antennae. If two, you can install the card linked above, which will perform as well as any wireless card you can buy. Hi, I am looking to upgrade the wifi card in my laptop as I do not get optimal Network speeds, and I get conection issues at my university. Do you have 2 antennae? If not, you cannot effectively upgrade to a 2 x 2 card with 5 ghz capability. If you do, the card to get is the Broadcom Azurewave: https://www.amazon.com/AzureWave-Broadcom-BCM94352HMB-BCM94352-867Mbps/dp/B00JY6X9HM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U... I'm a relatively new Windows 7 user.
I'm running it on my HP Pavilion g6, which has a Intel Core i3 [email protected] ghz, 4 gb RAM and both an ATI Radeon HD7670 and an Intel HD 3000 series video card.
So the problem is that the aero effects are kinda laggy, for example when using the windows key+tab or when shuffling around the elements in the start menu.
I know there is an option to select which video card runs a certain application( Configure switchable graphics), but how can i canfigure it so the windows uses the faster ATI card, rather than the Intel one?
EDIT: I also forgot to add that all the drivers are the newest versions.
Cheers to everyone

Here's the Service Manual: Manual See pp. 47 and 49-50 for "how to". The Manual says you have 2 wireless antennae but I would open the service door and be sure of that. If you have 2 antennae, you do not have a whitelist so you can install any card with the correct form factor. The best for AMD processor systems such as yours is the Broadcom Azurewave. https://www.amazon.com/AzureWave-Broadcom-BCM94352HMB-BCM94352-867Mbps/dp/B00JY6X9HM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492460405&sr=8-1&keywords=Broadcom+Azurewave This ia n 802.11ac card that operates in both 5ghz and 2.4 ghz modes and gives the top end Intel cards (which you cannot use) a run for their money in terms of performance. It also provides bluetooth support. You must however have 2 antennae for this to work right. If you have only one antenna wire, post back for other options. Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model and hardware version of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP (Home or Pro), SP1-SP2-SP3, Vista (Home, Business, Ultimate), etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.
Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.
If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
Have you connected directly to the broadband modem to see if this is a router or modem/ISP issue?
If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

I have a 2011 Asus k53sv laptop with an i7 processor and 8 gigs of ram. I recently upgraded my wifi card because I had an old centrino 100-n card. I upgraded to an intel 7260ac in order to get better speeds in general. Currently my ISP is giving me 100mgbs download and 20 mgb upload. On my girlfriends newer laptop she is getting around 75 mgb download on speedtest.net, however, when I try speedtest on the same network using my laptop, I max out at 20 mgbs. These tests are done one right after another so bandwidth issues aren't the problem. I have all of the correct drivers for this card installed so I don't think that is the issue either. Any ideas on how to fix this on my laptop?

When I boot up my laptop I would say it's a coin flip whether or not it detects my WiFi card on boot--I can tell whether or not it has been detected on boot because the WiFi symbol (instead of the LAN) symbol will appear in the bottom right corner of the home/login screen. When the card is detected the WiFi works PERFECTLY fine. This problem started happening when I used and uninstalled Technitium (a program that allows you to easily change your WIFI card's MAC address.) The reason I was using this program was so I could keep using an airport's complimentary free 30 min WiFi service for a few hours without having to pay--surely I've been paying for it in problems the last few months. Could anyone offer any insight as to how I can fix this? You guys have been my heroes since I was a kid.

I have a laptop INSPIRON E1705 with a WLAN card (p/n DW 1390) installed. I would like to replace it with a WiFi/Bluetooth combo card so I can have Bluetooth capability. What is the recommended card to buy that is compatible with Windows 10?
Given that there will be no antenna inside the system for bluetooth, you're better off with one of these:
I have just bought a nvidia shield tablet (coming tomorrow) and I have setup my laptop to create an ad-hoc wireless network for it to join. The problem is although the wireless card in my laptop is a wireless AC card and supports up to 867mbps, the link speed I am getting with my phone (has a wireless AC card too) is only 72mbps.
Obviously I would like the connection to be as fast as possible to reduce any dropped frames or lag which may happen when using the gamestream function the shield has.
I know there are lots of advanced settings for the wireless card in windows and from what I've read I need to increase the band width for the 5Ghz spectrum to allow for the faster data rate but I am not entirely sure how to go about this.
Any assistance would be great, and if you think you know the appropriate settings I should use, maybe you could assist me.

What you are describing is normal with LCD screens (as used in laptops) but if the screen is too dark for you then there is usually a way to turn up the brightness (check your manual).

It depends what you are using to connect to the DSL connection. If you are using a USB modem plugged into a computer then you will need a new kind of modem called a wireless router. However if you already have the right equipment then all you need to do is follow this guide for Windows Vista and this guide for Windows XP.

I have recently bought a new pci wifi lan card (Ralink rt61 turbo) and have plugged in and installed drivers. Initially the drivers the company I bought it from told me to install didn't work, but after some googling found the correct drivers and downloaded from Ralinks website. However these didn't work either.
When using the Ralink wireless utility it says that the card is disconnected, however in device manage it is both connect and the correct drivers installed and everything is perfectly fine.
I ignored the wireless utility and hoped that windows 7 would still be able to use the wireless card as past experiences have shown to be true. This case however I get nothing. Windows 7 says that the wireless card is experiencing problems, it doesn't show any of the routers that should be shown.
I have been looking around a lot and there have been several drivers that should have worked and they haven't.
I would have thought that the antenna is broken or the card doesn't work however when I use it with ubuntu instead of windows 7 it works perfectly fine without any hassle, so the card is definitely working.
Any advice that anyone can give on how to resolve this would be very welcome.
Have a look at this thread.

So, what i'm trying to do is create a wifi hotspot using my computer. In other words, turning my computer into a router. I'm wanting to do this so i can use my ipod at home instead of only when i'm around other wifi hotspots.
My computer is running off of a wired router, so that i can play online on my PS3 as well. I was told wifi doesn't work well with Ps3's normally so i just bought a wired router. So, the mainline internet cord is plugged into a wired router and then another line runs into my computer.
For some reason, after i make an adhoc connection, the computer is not sending the required information to the iPod so that it connects to the internet.
I've tried entering in the information into the Static tab in my ipod as well, and still only get Local Connection instead of Local and Internet.

Welcome to Vista Forums!
Unfortunately, it isn't as simple as that. You are connected to the router fine with your computer, but that tells us nothing about the ipod because wireless is off (but that's not the whole story either - you need something extra to do what you want). The following article should tell you what you need and how to do it: How to Connect iPod Touch to Windows 7 Ad-hoc Wireless Network. Although it says Windows 7, there are procedures for Vista as well (and the software will work with Vista).
I hope this helps.

I have just replaced my WiFi card from (BCM943228HMB) to BCM94352HMB. Before replacing my WiFi card i done the following:
1. Made computer boot in safe mode with networking.
After that i replaced the card, then booted into windows 10 (safe mode with networking) and checked device manager. Everything was OK (See attached picture). I then tried to turn on WiFi, but it does not turn on. Any help is appreciated.
Hahaahahaha don't look at the other tab
Why are you booting into safe mode? I would connect a network cable to the wired network port, if possible for you. In regular windows, not safe mode, right click on the 802.11ac network controller and uninstall. Right click on the top device manager entry for the computer itself and select scan for new hardware.Read other 12 answers

But since the wifi reciver card hooks up to my computer usb. what I want to know is. How can I hook up my netgear 54mbps router up to my computer so I can brodcast a wifi signal in my house.
The netgear router connects earthnet (dang spelling)
I have a earthnet card in the back of my pc should I plug it in there and will it brodcast into my router?
just wondering if this can be done. I am not relly experinced with networking.thx
I know thare's another post similer but is there any adapters or anything??

I've read through hundreds of posts trying to figure out my issue. Unfortunately, I've been unsuccessful.
Here's the issue, I was given a new laptop for work and it connects fine to our secure wireless network at the office, but when I brought it home it will not connect to my wireless network at home.
When I try to connect to my network at home the wireless manager sits and spins saying "trying to acquire network address". I have 2 iPhones, 1 eMachine and 1 Macbook connected to my network working fine and dandy. However, the HP laptop from work simply won't connect unless wired.
I have tried the following:
1. Uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.
2. Power Cycled my Router
3. Power Cycled my entire network
4. WinsockXPFix tool
I'm completely at a loss here. No idea what to do to fix this. I'm running Windows XP and have a 2Wire router.
I appreciate any advice anyone can give me to help solve this annoyance.

Hello fellas i need to connect my dumb Xbox 360 to live for it does not play any movies!! and asks to connect to live that i am unable to do.
OKey here is the plit-> i have a usb modem that i connect into my laptop wihch has wifi n all that now i create an adhoc n/w first on lapi--the xbox detects and connects but still test connection fails(the xbox is unable to connect to the adhoc n/w)
second i tried creating a adhoc n/w on my xbox-->lapi connects to that n/w but still the test conncetion fails on the xbox
I have checked "Allow users to use this n/w" for my USB modem connection which i use to connect to the internet In Properties-->Sharing
But here it asks to select the n/w connection out of 3 options Wireless conn,Wireless conn2,Local Area Conn.
Sometimes it shows only Wileless Conn and LAN
i tried every possible combination of all these settings but nothing is working.
The internet on my laptop works fine.
I am using Win 7 Home Premium.
I just need to connect my Xbox to my laptop wirelessely and use the internet connection my laptop is using.
i tried some manual settings of ip.subnet n dns server on my xbox n lapi, in this case the xbox connects to the network (while connection test) but does not connects to laptop.

Hi, My laptop has a very weak wifi detection. Only when the wifi signal is very strong can it detect the wifi. I tried contacting HP regarding the same. They said it could be a loose connection with the wifi antenna. I have been waiting for the custumer service in my area to contact me(like HP promised!!!) for quite a long time now . Now I am in urgent need to get this fixed. I was wondering if an external wifi adapter would solve this issue. Mine is a Windows 10 laptop. Model no: ab030tx (pavilion). If an external adapter works, what would you suggest? (I am confused as a lot of products available in market only convert the laptop to a hotspot)
Dear Customer, In case if your laptop is under warranty, You may call HP and will replace the Wireless card.Contact HPhttp://support.hp.com/us-en/checkwarranty However you may still use the External WIFI USB Adapters, I would like to share a document which helps how to choose the required Adapters.http://www.howtogeek.com/243330/how-to-choose-a-usb-wi-fi-adapter-for-your-laptop/ After trying you may search the model of the adapter online with Amazon for price details. guys i have a strange problem with my WiFi lately
yesterday the my laptop lost the connection to my WiFi modem and when i tried to search it my laptop not find any WiFi modem but the other device such as: my smartphone detect it normally. but after that, i tried windows troubleshooting and it found that "you've lost your internet connect" and suggest some way to solve this problem, i followed the instruction and voila, my internet connection appear again but next 4 hours, it's dead again, i went to troubleshooting and it worked fine again.
so guys please help me to solve this annoying problem...
I have an HP Pavilion g6. This laptop used to run fine with no issues. Now no matter what I do I cannot get the computer to connect to any wireless networks. I can still connect via direct LAN eithernet cable. There is only a LAN Network symbol where the Wifi symbol used to be. The wireless key's light remains solid orange and does not change. No message appears when it is pressed. The divice manager only lists the Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller and does not list any Ralink driver as it should. I have tried everything. Reseting does nothing. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.
Check if you have Wireless adapter under network adapters in Device Manager.
Thanks & Regards,Emmanual Nebu
