I can't turn flight mode off in settings (as it is "greyed out") and the slider button is completely broken.(I have fixed this button before)I want to avoid fixing the button, is it possible to just disable the flight mode in registry or something like that?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to the forum!

There's no trick known to me bypass the wifi switch. I think you will need to remove the keyboard and palmrest and manually move the motherboard switch to the "on" position, (the button on the palmrest actually moves this switch)

I just hope the motherboard switch is not broken ...

Check the steps to remove the palmrest in the hardware maintenance manual from Lenovo: click here! Chapter 9 - 1100

Good luck!

Regards

Edit: I just opened one of my T430s yesterday and I saw/remembered the switch is not on the motherboard itself but to a small board which is connected to the motherboard via a ZIF cable... I hope you could fix the issue... ;-)

A few days ago my Wifi light (F12 key) on the keyboard changed to orange instead of the usual blue. When i try to press this button it now activates/deactivates flight mode instead of wifi. Whenever i try to diagnose the problem it tells me to plug in an ethernet... which works but it never diagoses a problem with the Wifi. I have tried the battery pull, downloaded latest wifi drivers from HP (which seem to disappear once downloaded.... and it is starting to drive me crazy. please help!

I have had my laptop for about two years and have always had some problems with the wireless connection dropping in and out (laptop problem, not router). The latest problem is that quite regularly, when the laptop wakes up from hibernation there is no internet connection. The wi-fi logo next to the clock in the start bar says it is connected with full signal but when you click on the logo it says no connections are available (although there should be lots). I don't have the option to disconnect as I'm not actually connected. I have tried pressing the wireless button (F12) and it says it is turning flight mode on and off on the screen but the light remains blue and doesn't change to red so doesn't actually turn flight mode on. I have tried the diagnostic troubleshooter and all it says is that the ethernet cable is unplugged. Obviously it is meant to be unplugged as I am trying to use the wireless! Occasionally, when the wireless just cuts out randomly, the troubleshooter says the Windows wireless service isn't installed (it is) or that the wireless adaptor needed resetting. The only way to fix the problem is to shut the laptop down and restart which is becoming a pain. I haven't installed anything new recently, just the usual Windows updates. I did take the laptop back to PC World who believed I had a faulty wireless adaptor. The laptop was only a month old at the time but PC World refused to fix it for free unless I prove the problem existed... Read more

Been using this laptop since October with no issues. Upgraded to Win10 yesterday and now, every couple of hours, the laptop goes into airline mode. Once I was able to restore wifi in the settings area, but most of the time when you turn off (move the slider) to airline off, the wifi slider does not come on.

The keyboard method does nothing to restore wifi. My wife has had the same issue since upgrading two weeks ago.

When is MS going to fix this bug? The last time it did this was 10 minutes ago as I tried to enter this forum!

Thanks if anyone has a way to -permanently- fix this.

So this has been plauging me for a while now and I've finally decided to make a post about it. I cant seem to be able to toggle flight mode using the fn+f5 key combo. I always have to do it manually from the action center. I'm using windows 10. Other Fn key combos that wont work are the Spacebar, F10 and the F12 combo. (I think the LED part might just be dead though.) The Function keys and spacebar also works fine on their own though. Anyone else have this issue? Is there a fix?

Hi I have Windows 8.1 installed on a Surface Pro 3.

Six days ago the Flight mode toggle under "Change PC Settings - Network - Flight mode" was working fine. I could toggle flight mode on or off.
Right now, however, Flight mode is toggled to "on" but greyed out. The strange thing is that WiFi is enabled and working. I CAN connect to WiFi networks no problem.

I want to be able to toggle flight mode the next time I take a flight. But with the switched greyed out, I can't access this feature.

I've tried disabling and enabling the network adapter, updating to the latest WiFi and Blue Tooth drivers, but still no change.

BTW, This is the only place I can see a Flight mode toggle. There is no Flight mode (Airplane mode) listed under the Networks side bar accessed from the WiFi network charm.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.PaulC

i am using windows 10 for a year, but last time, suddenly my wi-fi icon turned to flight mode.

its also when i turn on/off flight mode using keyboard fn+flight mode its notification is swapped. when flight mode is off, the notification is "flight mode is on". i don't have any idea where was the problem, i tried to rebuild icon cache but doesn't make any change. help me please..?

Hello all, I have a Lenovo yoga 500 14IBD. It came with windows 8.1 and I upgraded to windows 10.My problem was that flight mode key didn't work after the upgrade and I had a look on Lenovo website and found a recommendation to install power management drivers for windows 10. So I searched for these and found the ones in this link http://support.lenovo.com/de/en/downloads/migr-4gxpegI didn't see my device as supported ! however I thought I give it a try (have already tried resetting the system about 8 times and updating all drivers and so on). I installed this Power management and voila the flight key works !! However, when the laptop comes from sleep, It stops working ! so I tried reinstalling and so on. Long story short, after a lot of experimenting I found what seems to be the reasonIf I turn on my laptop with the charger plugged in, flight key doesn't work !! and I have to restart and remove charger, same thing goes for walking from sleep mode! Also there's this Intel(R) Technology Access TAP Driver (NDIS 6.30) sometimes it is showing as unknow driver, sometimes it is OK (depends on it's mode). Any help, I already tried Lenovo support as the laptop is in guarantee (I have since a month or so) and they offered to take it in and repair it for charges (they think it is a virus) any help would be appreciated as I need to use the laptop for work and sending it to repair is quite a hassle.

Hi everyone, I'm really close to throwing my laptop out the window. So I've had my thinkpad for awhile it was windows 8 from factory and I upgraded to windows 10 right when that released. The thing worked fine for years.  I decided to format and do a clean windows install, everything worked for a couple weeks then I turned on airplane mode and it never came out of it. I've tried the fn buttons, the physical wifi switch on the side. Updated biosupdated driversreinstalled windows It is still in airplane mode, the button is grayed out and doesn't respond.  I don't believe this is a result of a bad wireless card, but I'm ready to buy a new one just to try if nothing else works. Does anyone have any information or experience with this issue? Thanks

Customer Support:For my current PC functional problems, I need help with resolving what appears to be an inconsistency with the available 8.1- and Win 10-related driver/utilities updates that are shown as "Recommended" for my PCs on Lenovo's "Driver & Support" site. Here's why. I purchased two (2) Yoga 2 11" Laptops, Type 80CX, Pentium Quad Core N3520 CPU, BIOS 92CN35WW Baytrail-M with Win 8.1 installed. At some point, the first of two problems showed up: the Airplane Mode On/Off (F7 Key) quit working on both PCs, presumably due to Win 8.1 updates/patches. But, I lived with it as the Mode could be switched by alternate means. Next I decided to take advantage of the free Win 10 update offer, but decided to upgrade just one of the PCs - so now I have one Win 8.1 and one Win 10 PC. Eventually, the second of the two problems showed up, but on just the Win 10 PC, again presumably due to Win 10 updates: the keyboard and pointer would quit working during use in the "Notebook" mode - one of the four operating modes, the other three being Stand, Tent, and Tablet Modes. I could temporarily fix this by reboots. This I could not live with, so I began searching for solutions. Using the Lenovo Drivers & Software site, I selected certain PC updates that I believed to be pertinent to this problem as well as some additonal updates that could be important and depend on the other updates to fix the problem. On this Win 10 PC, I installed 1) BIOS Baytrail-M update 92CN93WW.exe, 2) Yoga M... Read more

this is a many faceted and increasing in facets issue (ill try to make it as short as possible);

backstory:
the male side of my video cable connection (the part on the motherboard) had bent pins; the pins were unbent and the cable was able to fit back in, BUT

problems:
the picture was garbled--wrong colors, moving lines, etc. the people at a tech store told me the video cable was pinched and knowing that it had been jammed in the hinge for a while, i believed it extremely feasible. I finally ordered a new video cable but replaced it, and to no avail. the picture may have been slightly better--but not significantly if so; additionally (and im not sure if it was this way the first time as well) the computer was displaying at the size of the external.

i restarted, and reazlied that the laptop screen displayed nothing at startup, until logged in--exactly like the external. i figured that at least a portion of what was going on was the computer was sending the external screen signal to the laptop.

things i've tried:

-reseating both ends of the new video cable MANY times
-turning the computer off, taking out battery, holding start button, putitng battery back in, restarting
-every variation of screen resolution/external monitor setting
-pluggin in the external, putting laptop to sleep, unpluggnig external
-reinstalling video/image drivers
function key combinations

I left my laptop alone for a few minutes and when I came back, my display was off and the power led was blinking. I tried [ressing the power button, but the screen did not turn on and power led continued to blink. At the time the charging led was white, meaning the battery was fully charged. I waited a few days to see if draining the battery would allow me to turn the commputer on but that hasn't worked. Now, when I plug the adapter in and try to turn on the laptop, the charging led (now orange, not white) and the power led blink on and off simultaneously. I tried plugging the display to an external monitor too and since the computer has been stuck in this mode, nothing has shown up. I have viewed the HP page for hard reset but it did not work for me: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768 I have also viewed the HP led flashing page and tried the steps. They did not work: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01732674 Can anyone help me fix this asap? This laptop was going strong and I've taken really good care of it. Hi, today I decided to restart my PC but it got stuck at the "logging off" screen, so I just held down power button to turn it off.
When I tried turning it back on, it got stuck at the windows logo. Safe-mode won't work, nor will system recovery.Note: I had not made any hardware changes in the past 3 years. I also don't think I have made any big software changes in the past couple of weeks.

What I was doing before I decided to reboot:
I was reinstalling different versions of firefox because I was having flash issues (FF and Flash arent very compatible on some of the newer FF versions)

So I installed 30.0 and it asked me reboot to finish the installation and here I am. I don't think it's related, might be just a coincidence.

Full details of what is happening:
Normal boot-up freezes at the windows7 logo. The animation freezes too. PC does not auto re-boot.
Safe-mode gets stuck while loading components. Notably at storport.sys (not sure if I spelt that right) PC does not auto re-boot.
System recovery freezes after a while during the © Mircosoft Corporation screen with green loading bar. PC does not auto re-boot.
The little light that flickers when the PC is doing something is not lighting up during the loading screens. It flickers for the first couple of seconds and then just stops (or very faintly flicks every 3-4 secs) The loading screen animation then freezes after ~10-15 seconds.

A couple of nights ago Windows requested to do some updates. It had 2/3 it automatically picked but I decided to look at the optional updates it recommended but didn't select. I went ahead and asked to install all of them. After restarting and rebooting computer since then my computer hangs/gets stuck on "Starting Windows". It's not a freeze I guess as the logo is still animated whilst booting but I've had it like that for 2 hours without success. I searched the issue up on google and it seems very common after windows updates (never happened to me before however) but every fix/solution suggested seem to vary drastically between HDD Fault/Motherboard dying/You downloaded something naughty etc, etc.

I can't make any progress on many of these "solutions" though. When pushing F8 upon boot and then selecting "Repair my computer" the screen will turn black and I will only be able to see a low quality cursor. The other route to many solutions was via safe mode but that doesn't load either anymore. I booted from safe mode successfully once, restored from a previous point on the 12th of February (maybe the last boot before the updates) and stupidly let windows shutdown and install the same updates again, I think. Since then it also gets stuck loading files.

Running Windows 7 Professional Edition

Any help is appreciated!

Hi there Dougy282,

Do you have your Windows OS CD by any chance? If so, I recommend performing a "REPAIR-INSTALL" and see if that resolves this. You would definitely need your legitimate copy of Windows OS CD though.

Hope everything works out well for you and feel free to ask more questions, thank you.

Yes, most likely. Even if it doesn't, you can use features like Compatibility Mode, and other programs (DOS Box, VirtualBox, and others) that can be used to run programs that only ran on outdated OSes.
I would also recommend building your own PC (something we can help you with here @ Bleeping Computer), as you can save a lot of money that way.

So here's the story.  I looked in my device manager the other day and my computer wasn't recognizing my Nvidia 750Ti.  Instead it only showed the Intel graphics card.  The day before, everything was working fine, so I thought it had something to do with a new graphics driver that updated.  So after uninstalling the latest graphics driver from Nvidia, I restarted my computer in safe mode through msconfig.  Big mistake.  Right after that, nothing would load on my monitor.  I'm sure that something is broken in the booting process, because the fan starts, the lights turn on, and my keyboard and mouse turn on.  But no matter what I try, nothing shows up on my monitor and it does not respond.  I'm sure that there's nothing wrong with my PC parts, as it just happened after 1 restart.  I tried to restart once in safe mode and boom, wouldn't boot up again.  Pls help?

I'm on windows 8.1

A:Restarting in Safe Mode broke my PC

Have you done a cold boot - power off and plug removed for several minutes?
If there is a video port on the motherboard you may have to connect there until you get the graphics card fixed.
A start up repair might also be called for to get things reconfigured for the change in graphics drivers. I'm assuming that you have the default drivers loaded.
Keep us posted

Can anyone suggest a good flight-sim game that's not a resource hog. I'd like to put one on my ThinkPad. It's running WinXP with a gig of RAM and a smallish amount of independent graphics processing power.
