Q: System Password after Bios update (Lenovo G40-70 M...

Hello! My wifi stoped working and I updated all drivers and it didn't work. Then for the last thing I've updated the bios from 9acn28ww to 9acn32ww from the site. It went OK, but now that I try to acess the setup I'm prompted by a system password I didn't set earlier, it was empty. It came with Windows 8 installed, but I was using Windows 7 with MBR partition and now I can't configure to Legacy and nothing... Is there any default password like "password" ? Thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi. I have a Lenovo B50-30 mode 80ES. It was set to require a password on startup starting with a capital "A". While experiencing charging problems, amongst other things, I updated the BIOS to 9CCN35WW, downloaded from the Lenovo support site. Since updating, the laptop no longer asks for a password on startup (No big deal, I applied a windows password), however, when pressing F2 to access the BIOS (which I need to do, the F keys are the wrong way round), it asks for a password, When pressing to strike a capital A, the laptop beeps and doesnt enter it. It wont accept capital letters anymore, therefore it wont accept the pre BIOS update password. I have referred the laptop to Lenovo service, including returning the laptop, and they have been nothing short of useless. They said they couldnt repair it under warranty because of "Marks, cracks, inappropriate treatment" and it would cost £255 for a replacement system board. I really couldnt see why I should pay for an issue created by their support system, so I asked them to return it unrepaired. Upon arrival, the laptop was immaculate, so I dont know what damage they were referring to. Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS to a pre update revision, to change the password and then reset it to one the new BIOS approves of? Thankyou in advance.

Hi,I have the problem with the system password BIOS in my Lenovo Ideapad 310-15.I set the password and everything was good, password was giving the acess to the BIOS, but some day when I was trying to logIn to the BIOS settings something happened and now I cannot log in to the BIOS settings.Maybe I forgot the password but everything looked good until now. What can I do ? The notebook was bought at this year and it has actual support but I think this issue is out of the warranty.Any idea how I can reset the password by software, if this is possible, or what will be the best solution in my sytuation?Maybe is there any way to reinstall BIOS what give the default access?

I've been getting the "Thread Stuck in Driver" BSOD when playing games for several months now and have just been trying to ignore it. However, it's gotten too bad to be ignored any longer. I've been trying to download a BIOS update (as another thread on this topic suggested) but the System Update program refuses to download the BIOS update it says I need every single time. I can provide more info on my system if necessary.  Thanks for the help.

I have a Flex 4 1480 Signature Edition ideapad 80VD0007US and I'm trying to update the BIOS via the System Update utility.  When I choose to install the suggested update for the BIOS I get a message stating that this BIOS is only for "510S14IKB 310S15IKB YOGA 510-14IKB YOGA 510-15IKB" - none of which is my machine I'm pretty sure.  What can one do to find the correct BIOS and update it if the System Update utility doesn't give you the correct one?

The Lenovo Settings utility says that my BIOS is currently: 2SCN23WWV2.03

Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of the difficulties you are experiencing.  The warning message you are receiving during the update is partially correct.  Your model should have been included in that warning since that BIOS update covers all the models listed.   Here is a full description from the BIOS update's README file....

Flash BIOS update - Flash from Operating System version for ideapad 510S-14IKB, 310S-14IKB, 310S-15IKB, Yoga 510-14IKB, Yoga 510-15IKB, Flex 4-1480, Flex 4-1580Version 2SCN25WW(V2.05)Applicable OS Win10

I would try the upgrade again and click to proceed.  Otherwise here is a direct download link to that BIOS upgrade from the Lenovo Download Library for your model....

A:Lenovo H 50-55 Bios password suddenly appears when trying to enter bios. I don't know it.

my guess is that your cmos battery died and it wants you to set day/time.  There is no backdoor password.  The choices are remember the PW or replace the motherboard.

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

I?m currently updating the BIOS of some Lenovo ThinkCentre M83 PC´s and I came across a problem. The Flash UEFI BIOS update (provide by Lenovo) worked almost perfectly on the first PC´s, despite it didn?t automatically open the console and started the flashing process.Anyways I did go on with my work. Almost all other PC´s had the problem that when the second phase (yellow font)/ afudos.exe imagefb.rom /defans /capsule /b /n /r /sp started the afuwin.exe stopped working (it crashed). It seemed like the Update wouldn?t get done this way so I decided to try it with the USB Flash method, also provided by Lenovo, but it also didn?t work. It says in the second phase ?15 - Error: Secure Flash function is not supported on this platform? Last but not least I tried to update the BIOS with the CD-ISO but when updating with this method it says that the BIOS-Version is too old. Some information about the system: ThinkCenter M83Type: 10BE0003GEOS: Windows 7 SP1 64bitBIOS-Revision: FBKT73AUSBIOS last Updated: 01.April.2014 Furthermore Information what I found out:BIOS-Revision seems to not matter (same version but some worked some not)Doesn?t matter if BIOS is set to UEFI only or Legacy onlySecure Boot also seems like it doesn?t matter if it´s on or notWhen the afuwin.exe crashes it only writes a return codeI use the update provided by this Page from Lenovo (Update: fbjycpusa)https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/de/de/downloads/ds035753 Thanks... Hello, Problem 1:I've set the supervisor password some time ago on my T450s. I think I used the special character "!" which was accepted at that time, but I'm not sure anymore today. Now after severeal BIOS updates the "!" only leads to a beep of the system and I also tried all of my standard-passwords without "!" , but without success. Problem 2:Now I've tried to roll back to older BIOS versions to try if one of these accepts the "!". But every version I tried leads to a "secure flash authentication failed"-error after the reboot of the laptop to actually flash the BIOS. The following link says its the Rollback Prevention Enabled, but I checked in BIOS and it's clearly disabled.https://support.lenovo.com/sg/de/solutions/ht117858 Now I have no idea how to proceed. Has anyone seen that the BIOS has accepted special characters like "!"?Are there other T450s which are not able to rollback to older BIOS versions with the above mentioned error? Technical Infos:- Model: ThinkPad T450s 20BW-S03E00 (the one with Intel graphics only and a core i5-5200)- BIOS: 1.29(JBET65WW) Thanks in advance!  Best regards,Linus123

So recently i need to use virtual box to build a practice lab, Intel VT-x is available but not enabled i can only assume because im locked out of the bios setup. Im 99.99% sure i didnt set a password for bios menu. Even if i did, my go to password isnt working, and iv tried for several hours guessing. I tired clearing the Bios by unplugging the ram, battery and cmos battery and holding the power button down for 30 seconds and then plugging in the cmos battery after it power cycles on and off and then one of the ram sticks. That didnt work, because it has a eeprom chip. Remember the password is out of the questions id prefer not to change the mobo or the bios chip if at all possible. My main goal is to enable intel virtualization. But if something else were to go wrong i may need access to my bios setup. Any advice? Thank You.

I need a way to update a bios that has a bios password set FROM windows remotely. Scenario:             I'm at my desk, a remote user is having a known issue related to a BIOS revision that is older. I need to update it but the user is not at my location. We cannot supply the user our BIOS password by policy. Prior to these new models, we could put the BIOS password into a box during the update; however, NOW we are forced to supply it on bootup. This is impossible without traveling to the users location. We had a case open with HP and they said "you need to script it" I need to know what that entails. We used to be able to use switches and whatnot with the bios update utility.....I don't see that ability now. Please provide guidance to remove temporarily the bios password remotely (known bios password it's not forgotten) and re-enable it after upgrade. re-cap,BIOS password is knownusers at remote locations require bios updatecannot provide users the passwordcannot physically travel to the user's locationneed it re-enabled after update.

Hi- I have been slowly struggling with a password issue with my Ideapad U530 over the last few months.  The problem is, when I try to acces the BIOS via the Novo button, I am asked for a "system password". However, I did NOT set this password, so I cannot access the BIOS. In terms of other passwords, such as Windows User/Admin, and boot, there is no problem. The only unique thing that I have done with this machine which I could think of the <might> be related to the BIOS password issue, is that I used the Novo button to access the built-in restore tool (I forget what Lenovo calls it exaclty, but it is a system restore application), and I told the machine to re-image itself back to the built-in, out-of-box image. This process worked fine, though, and logic would tell me that this c/would <not> affect the BIOS. Has anyone else run into this issue? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for reading and/or replying. -Chris p.s. - USB booting appears to be disabled. Actually, that was why I first tried to access the BIOS ...to enable USB booting. So, my ability to troubleshoot may be heavily limited by my inability to boot to the internal hybrid HD. p.p.s - the machine is under warranty until September of this year. I've spoken twice with Lenovo support, who were unable to help me. They mentioned the possibility of removing the SMOC battery, though I believe that this will not work since it is the year 2015. Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of your problems.  With a laptop, removing the battery will not clear a BIOS related password.  That only works with desktop models.  Unfortunately forum rules prohibit further discussion on how to circumvent the BIOS password.  This is due to the ease in which laptops can be stolen.  I would suggest contacting Best Buy again and see if they can further assist you especially if the laptop you purchase had been a floor display.  Otherwise the only remedy to the password problem would be to replace the motherboard.

Sorry to hear of your problem.  From what you have described I'm not sure if the hard drive password or a BIOS Power On password was enabled on your system.  Unfortunately with either password, discussions are limited by Forum Rules.  This is due to the ease in which laptops are stolen.  If you didn't activate the passwording on your laptop then I would suggest checking with anyone who may have had access to it.  Only they can assist you in removing that password.  The alternative is to contact Lenovo Support for replacement of hardware that is locked by the password.

Hi Yiping ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try turning the pc on using the novo button .
Else if the display cannot project , you may have to blind map it , step by step .
It would be using InsydeH20 , initially use Novo button to turn on.
2nd option to choose BIOS option so down arrow once.
As it now goes to the BIOS main tab by default , 4 tabs to the right so it will be 3 left arrow .
Follow thru with this example.

Update us how it goes.

You can use this BIOS simulator for G570 to accurately map the step.

I recently changed my BIOS password (aka supervisor password) on my ThinkPad T400 and I did not write it down. I do remember that the character limit for this password was short (maybe 6,7,or 8 characters long). If I knew the (default?) character limit or length I could rule out dozens of other passwords in my memory and gain access to my computer that much sooner. Ive read every manual and users guide for my laptop and there is no other method readily available, no bypass solution so it is imperative that I remember what I set.. Thanks for your time.

Ancak ?ifreyi bir süre sonra unuttum. ?nternetten biraz ara?t?rd?m ve bir kaç yöntem denedim. Bios pilini ç?kartmak gibi. Bios pilini ç?kartt?m ?ifre s?f?rlanmad?. Ancak bilgisayar?n saati yanl?? oldu. Yani bios pili sadece saati s?f?rlamaya yarad?. Saati düzelttim ancak bios ?ifresini hala s?f?rlayamad?m. Acaba bios ?ifresi EEPROM'da m? tutuluyor? E?er öyleyse EEPROM çipi nerededir?Yard?m?n?z için te?ekkürler.

Hi,I have recently acquired Lenovo Thinkpad T500 and I am coming across several issues. Having resolved few, here is the one I cannot find help anywhere.Trying to use Lenovo System Update I get the message "The System Update Server is invalid. Please contact Support Center"....which I would do (contact support) if only T500 was listed as one of your products, while it is not - why is it?The version of the System Update is 5.07.0061 I will be really grateful for any help, because google-resolving these issues took me 2 days already. Thank you.

bought this recently, and must say that i am pretty pissed. i did installation of windows 7 on it and it worked fine for some 10 days till it got BSOD cause of bad system info and couldnt even load into windows. only solution was to reinstall. i did fresh install and i got BSOD with fresh install after only few days. checked internet for solution and saw that you could select windows 7 os in bios for optimized settings that should prevent BSOD. but no option for windows 7 in bios. only for win 8 and other OS. i thought ok, i will just download latest bios and flash it. but what happened when i downloaded bios (a2cn38ww) from support page?i got this message "your machine does not match with this bios". so does anyone know where i can actually  download correct bios, or how to contact lenovo support so they can tell me where to download bios?
