Requirement to view a pps file

Q: Requirement to view a pps file

What do I need to download from Microsoft to be able to view a pps file?
I am running Windows XP
Thanks for any help.

Preferred Solution: Requirement to view a pps file

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there,

You might want to consider a System Restore if this is a recent occurrence.

Using the System File Checker (sfc scannow) would be my next suggestion.

I recently had to do a system restore and now my .jpg and jpeg files have a bad file icon. They still do open with the windows pic program as I want them to - but only on the admin accout, I usually surf and play and do everything else with a user account, and even if I reset everything under folder options for the file associacions it somehow doesn't apply to the other account.
The funny thing is that windows tells me in the file association menu that I changed the file association's properties and can set them back to standart "photo suite 6" - a program that I uninstalled ages ago ... can I somehow set this back to the normal winxp picture and fax displaying thing?

How to force Windows 7 File Explorer to display ALL audio folder content as normal files in detailed view with file name/size/date and without title/artist/album.

A:How to display all audio file folders in detailed file view

Hello Robilong,

If the audio folders all have the Music folder template, then you could use Apply to All Folders to set on these folders the way you like it with details view and have it applied to all "Music" folders.

Hope this helps,

Do I need to change a setting in Windows 8.1, or is this a setting that needs to be changed in printer software??

Thanks

How can I view a PDF file and an Excel file on the screen at the same same time? Every time I open a PDF file, everything shuts down, excel for the PDF. Whenever I click off the PFD, I see everything else, but the PDF is gone. I'm trying to get some info from the PDF to Excel, but it's really hard to do this in Widows 8. In Windows 7 and previous versions, I could see more than one thing on my screen at the same time. Now, the PDF simply takes over control of everything else, so you see the PDF and that's it and that's all.

Thanks everyone.

I am having a problem viewing photo's sent to me by my father. When he sends them by e-mail something happens to them and they become .dat files although they start out as .jpg's

I live very far away from him and cannot access his PC to see whats up, furthermore he is elderly and it's been painstaking to try to resolve this issue over the phone and by email. His knowledge of computers isnt very strong either.

I know they start out as .jpg's because the title of each e-mail will be something like "Emailing: paul 062, paul 063, paul 064.jpg" . Once I click on the e-mail the attachment file names are different, example: "ATT00012.dat" and the file size is like 44.6kb, which is rather small. Another thing worth noting is that when he sends them I end up getting 20-30 duplicate copies of the same email (one time it was just over 100), yet he says he sent once. Any e-mails he sends that have no attachments come singular as they rightly should.

He has sent photo's in the past and they have come in a typical .jpg format. I'm not sure if he's having an Outlook Express issue or perhaps he's doing the process slightly different. I'm hoping someone here can make some sense of it and let me know, it would be of great help!

Thanks,
Dan

OK, so Windows 8 does a lot of counter-intuitive things that are maddening as hell, but the one that I'm struggling with (today) is how to make each folder view different. I work with photographs quite a bit, and have them sorted into their own folders. These folders are listed by a stock number. When looking through a list of folders by stock number, it is obviously most practical and useful to view them as a list. Click VIEW > LIST and everything is fine.

Find the folder I want and open it. It's full of photos, which I would like to view as thumbnails. Click VIEW > Large Icons. Good.

Go back to the main directory with all the folders with stock numbers, and they are all now thumbnails, not a list. Click VIEW > LIST and I get my list back. Go back into the folder with pictures and it's a list.

So how the hell do I set it so that the behavior of one folder doesn't dictate the behavior of ALL folders? All the older operating systems did this naturally, but Windows 8 seems to think that I want them all the same all the time. I've already wasted more time than I'd care to admit looking for the answer.

Anyone remember when Windows was fairly intuitive and you could at least feel your way through the menus and figure it out? God I miss those days...

A:File view help

Hello Toolman, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It sounds like you are in the Pictures library. If so, then that's why. All folders in a library share the same folder views of whatever was last set.

Only actual folders (ex: "C:\Users\(user-name)\Pictures") have their own separate folder views.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

One of the administrators here where I work used a Sharp data assistant for a long time to store addresses, phone numbers, etc. Well, he broke the display somehow so he bought a new data assistant. The problem is, the Sharp makes a backup of the data as a *.SBK file. If this is transferred to another Sharp device it works fine. However, the new one isn't a Sharp so it won't transfer, and I can't find any software or converter that will allow me to open a *.SBK on a PC. The only things I find through Google that refer to *.SBK have to do with audio, and I'm pretty sure that wouldn't cover this type of file.

Any thoughts or suggestions on a way to open this?

An SWF file is a file that should open with Adobe's Flash Player. Assuming you have the Flash Player installed, there shouldn't be a problem opening the file. However, I really wouldn't trust any content from that site. To me, it looks like a classic example of a site intended to distribute malware. I hope you didn't download anything there. Of course, it could be that the file is just corrupted, but why take a chance?

In Internet Explorer when you go into: Tools>Internet Options up pops a dialog box called "Internet Options". In this box, under the "General" tab, in the section called "Browsing history", you can click on "Settings". That brings up the dialog box:
"Temporary Internet Files and ...". In that box it asks you to specify how many days IE should save the "list of websites" you've visited. Specifically it says: "Days to keep pages in history:"

Is there a file where these "pages" are saved? What's its name and where is it? Can you save a web page and if so how do you do it?

I am running Vista Home ... when in the folder I have my videos in I can see my .avi movies from my old HP dig cam but can not view the thumbnail of the newer .mov videos from my Kodak dig cam. This bugs me. I can play them in quicktime but would love to be able to see the thumbnail preview so sorting them would be a lot faster.

I've googled this and tried several things. Nothing has worked as of yet. Maybe I am not doing something right. I download and installed VLC and 3ivx. I do not want to change any .reg afraid I might mess something up. This machine is only 1 week old.

Someone please help me I don't know what else to do or where else to look.

A:Can't view .mov file thumbnails

As you may know, Windows Vista doesn't natively support mov files. VLC can play them, but its decoders are built-in and completely independent of Windows. 3ivx only decodes mov files (and mp4 files and 3gp files) encoded in MPEG-4 (it won't decode mov files in any other codec); not sure about its previewing capabilities.
What you would need is a filter (sometimes called splitter) to enable Windows (and Windows Media Player and Explorer etc.) to sparse mov files. The two most popular ones are Haali's and Gabest's filters. They're not perfect (have a few bugs - notably for mp4 and 3gp files) because they're third-party software, but they work for most files.
I believe Haali's filter is bundled with QuickTime Alternative, which you can get here:
http://www.codecguide.com/download_qt.htm
During installation it will propose to uninstall QuickTime, but that's not necessary. You can have QuickTime and QuickTime Alternative work side by side just fine.
As for Gabest's filter it's built-in Media Player Classic (also installed with QuickTime Alternative). I think you could download the filter alone somewhere in here
http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/
but I'm not sure how to install it and register it with Windows.

Why don't you just use the free FLV player. You just drag and drop the file in. I have been through this before and that is the best way I found. Other programs will convert a video file but you only get the sound.

One can get it free Here

I used Gspot to see if I needed aq codec but I dont, it said it was just an mpeg file. Can I use some utility to convert it and then watch it? Thank you.

A:How do I view an SVCD file on my PC?

Download the svcd codec. Your confusing mpeg1 (VCD) with mpeg2 (SVCD). You need a new codec. http://www.divxmovies.com/software/

And most importantly - what? Size 3.63 GBTried to restore directly to winrar, but does not work! And so it was a lot of times! I doubt that even in winrar you can restore at least one damaged archive. How I view corrupted rar file?

Can anyone tell me what software I need to open a .strg file.

A:dvr strg file - how do i view it

No telling. You'll need to find out what codecs are being used for audio and video.

Tools For Analyzing System and Media Codecs (some install searchers and toolbars if you don't opt out, so read the pages while installing and always use the advanced or custom installation options where the add-ons often appear):

GSpot Information Appliance (video codec identification utility)

CodecInstaller (System codec and media analyzer and installer)

5Star Media Analyst

InstalledCodec (Shows all codecs, enable/disable)

VideoInspector (codec and media analysis)

MediaInfoGUI (Shows format/codecs/properties of audio and video files)

Sherlock (checks audio and video files, codecs versions, broken codecs, etc.)

AVIcodec (media analyzer)

I renamed photos and dragged them into two new folders, which I had named, and now I cant find them anywhere, Have
used the search option and used the names which I know I named them but no luck. I have an empty unnamed folder, which was created about the time I was moving them around. I think I remember seeing something about hidden files...this is my last hope...any suggestions? Thanks

A:How can I view a hidden file

Hidden files are generally system files, not files created by any user: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-see-hidden-files-in-windows/.You can do a search for all graphics on the system, using the Start/Search function and designating *.jpg (or whatever file extension your graphics are) as the search string. Results will reflect the file path/location for each file found during the search.Louis

I'm trying to view some Works WKS files that I created several years ago. I was using it to log my vehicle maintenance history. However, my Works application became corrupt and I cannot find the OEM install CD.

I now have Office XP. I've tried different converters to view the files with Excel, but nothing works. Some of the text is legible. But they mostly contain odd shapes and misplaced letters--nothing very discernable. I've tried Microsoft's website. Their help is "open the file with Works, and save it as a different file type". Ha! I don't have Works anymore.

Is this a lost cause? Any ideas?

Curly, try this link --

Failing that, I have Works 5/2K so could convert if no data protection issues (PM me if necessary).
