M91p will not boot after Win updates on Win 7 or 10

Q: M91p will not boot after Win updates on Win 7 or 10

After a clean Win 7 or Win 10 image is loaded and all the drivers installed and sucessfull reboots I proceed with the Win updates. After a Win update and rebot Win will not load. In Win 10 it goes into a diag routine that does not solve the issue no matter what is selected. I have found that I can get it to finally boot with a Safe boot and then shutdown power off. After that it will come up. I have reimaged it five times now tryng Win 7 or Win 10 home and professional and all the same results Thank you for any advice Intel Core i5-2400 Processor(3.10 GHz 6 MB)Memory: 2x 8 GB PC3-10600Hard Drive: 1x 2 TB 7200

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

PXE boot for 4518 & 4524 takes repeated attempts before accepting DHCP connections. Is there a BIOS or firmware release that can make network booting reliable?Unlike 8215(M52), 8810(M55), 6072(M57), and 7483(M58), the M91 takes multiple attempts to acquire a network connection and begin download of the image. When the units attempt connection, it drops to the cabling error message, but the ethernet port is displaying a solid orange led and blinking yellow led as if the cable is connected properly and will work fine once the operating system(Windows 7) is loaded. The issue is not effected by boot order or delaying when ?Enter? is press after the option is chosen.

A:M91p PXE boot issue

Ihave the same issue check cable error on boot.I found a way to boo PXEt with m91punplug the cable when you bootpress F12 to show the boot menuthen plug the cableand select to boot to the network card.It is a very strange behaviour.I updated with the last BIOS version available from end of may with the same issue.Lenovo guy's it seems to be a general issue can you check that?!?!?!?!

Hi , I have some Lenovo ThinkCentre M91p dekstops which I try to boot over our network in uefi pxe boot but no luck so far. Our pxe network server is setup to work with uefi only so I set m91p in bios to uefi mode and tryed to boot over pxe but I think network is still in legacy mode, with other type of boot option I have two options to boot ( for example usb flash drive - legacy and uefi boot in submenu to choose in auto bios mode , in uefi bios mode it boot directly in uefi the usb flash drive ) but for the pxe boot its the same in uefi bios option and auto/legacy - connects to network pxe , try to boot and same error for too big size like we get if bios is set to legacy ot cms mode. So my question is it possible to boot in uefi pxe mode this desktop ? Or we will need to change pxe server to allow and working with legacy.Thank you for your answers.

I just got a recent AMD Polaris card (RX 550) for Lenovo ThinkCentre M91p, and it simply doesn't boot with it. It doesn't even get to the starting splash screen with Lenovo logo. The monitor remains blank. I updated the BIOS to the last release I could find but it still didn't help. Can anything be done with it? It works with Nvidia cards, but I'm running Linux and want to use open drivers, so AMD is a much better option. I replaced the power supply by the way with better one.

Hello everyone, I have the m91p and recently upgraded some hardware; ram, cpu, and video card. When I first powered it on, it booted fine and I was able to log in. Now when I try to boot it, I get 3 short beeps, followed by 3 long, and ending with 1 short beep. Does anyone know what this beep sequence means? I tried taking out all the new components and replacing with the old and the beeping still occurs. Could this be the power supply?

I'd recommend going into the UEFI, which replaces the old BIOS standard, and resetting to optimal defaults, which will likely fix the issue. You also should update it, if you have access to a Windows system use rufus to format a bootable dos usb stick and copy the contents of the USB Drive UEFI BIOS Flash Package so you won't need Windows (or a CD) on the actual system to do updates. The current version is 58 vs the 43 you have on there now. By the way you can also use rufus to install Windows to a usb drive for 'Windows To Go' mode which is quite useful at times, especially if you don't want Windows on the system itself. You can download a Windows 10 iso directly from Microsoft's website and via rufus  'Windows To Go' mode isn't limited to just the Enterprise version. CHANGES for 9HKT58A/9HJT58A

I've never had any major problems with Win7 before and last year I installed some of the KB updates that turned out to be Win10 gubbins -mainly cos they were all labelled as 'Win7 updates'. Yeh, I wasn't being vigilant enough at the time, but then with no Win7 problems before, I had no problems with M$.

I always boot up my laptop offline -mainly cos I have stuff to do on the computer first and then I'll go online afterwards. I have a USB mobile internet dongle for my laptop -not a fixed line -and the wifi is turned off. Following an install of some of these updates, the next time I booted up, I got the usual opening screen (Dell logo + F2 Set Up/F12 Boot Options), then the screen goes black . . . and then nothing - the screen stayed black. Normally it then goes to 'Starting Windows' yada yada, log-in screen appears, sign in, off we go . . .

So after nothing, I tried again . . . and nothing. F2 = BIOS, change the settings . . . and nothing. Tried all sorts of BIOS settings . . . and nothing. F8 = advanced . . . nothing. Couldn't reach the log-in screen, no sign of 'Starting Windows'. After about half an hour - various BIOS settings making no difference at all - I made a cup of tea and thought 'Well that's that then . . .'

The previous weeks had been 'GWX! GWX! You want Win10! Yes you do!' but my approach was to leave it a bit -wait until after the initial fanfare had died down, any early bugs fixed, and check out the feedback after a few months of people using Win10 proper... Read more

Hello,I have an M91p tower (7052)  I'm trying to add USB 3.0 ports and a card reader (preferably in the same expansion bay) My question is, does my motherboard include a way to hook up the USB 3.0?   Some products I have looked at say that the computer needs to support 3.0.   (A usb 3.0 "header"?) The M91p manual says nothing about this.  How can I find out if the motherboard supports 3.0?     Thank you!

A:3.0 USB for M91p?

Should work perfectly fine.

Don't forget you should connect external power to the Molex connector on the card, in order to provide 900ma power to the USB 3.0 ports.  It says it's "optional" but I'm skeptical, especially depending on what type of external USB 3.0 devices you're planning on using. For my money, better safe than sorry.

I don't know if the M91p has a folded up extra SATA power connector on one of its cables coming from the PSU, but if so you can connect that to the SATA-to-Molex adapter cable they say comes with this card.  Otherwise you'll have to get a Y-splitter for a SATA power connector going to either your internal HDD or optical drive, and connect the second end of the Y to this adapter cable.

After the Windows 10 creators update, I have an Inspiron 3250 that failed to boot.  The blue screen that shows includes the text:

The Boot Configuration Data files doesn't contain valid information for an operating system.
File: \BCD
Error code: 0xc0000098
You'll need to use recovery tools.  If you don't have any installation media...

I was able to fix it by adding a boot option and selecting the EFI boot file directly.  I called the boot option "BOOT EFI".   I set it to "Boot Option #1" in the bios, and the computer boots.
The boot option #1 resets to "Windows Boot Manager on Disk 0" after a power outage.  It does not always reset, but most of the time it does.
How do I get "Windows Boot Manager on Disk 0" working correctly or how do I prevent the Bios from changing to it after a power outage?
Here are some screen shots that show reselecting the boot option so that it will boot.

Hi everyone, I recently acquired a M91p SFF with:i5-24008gb RamAsus eah5450 low profile passOptical drive500gb hdd @7200rpmand 240w PSU So I have been researching a lot about what GPUs will work in my systemI decided to buy the GT730 (to upgrade my old gpu).It has a power consumption of 25w (TDP of 38w) according to the geforce website.I just want to make sure that it will work.Although I am confident it will work because the asus eah5450 has a power consumption of up to 75 watts.I MAY have to update my bios but my concern is that there's no bios update for Windows 10.I am also planning to transfer it to another case and buy a new psu but I am not sure what size the motherboard is (most likely micro-atx) and also the connectors to a new psu would be similar to the stock psu that I currently have The GT730 is on it's way and i'm planning to install it and removing the power to the optical drive (dvd) since I don't use it that often. This is just to make sure that my psu would hold the entire setup. Any suggestions guys? Thanks!

Hi all, My PC is : 4524e3u LENOVO M91P CORPORATE TOWER CI7-2600  3.4GHZ/16GB/320GB , full tower I just bought it used and installed my old power supply (Enermax Noisetaker 420W), as the one that came with this PC sucks. But unfortunately it won't support Overwatch (crazy I know...). I want to know the best possible video card I can purchase for this PC ($100-$210, I'm all about value), for gaming purposes.I was thinking aboutXFX Radeon R7 370 995MHZ 4GB Dual Dissipation GDDR5 HDMI 2XDVI PCI-EXPRESS 3.0 Video Card, but I read some other threads related that some people's PCs wouldn't even boot with a R7 card. My PSU does have an additional 6pin power supply. Someone else said in another thread that the best video card could only be Nvidia 750 Ti. I hope this is not true. Ultimately, I want to play Overwatch.  Thanks all!

A:ThinkCentre M91p motherboard and ECC RAM??

My question goes like this : On a out-of-warranty ThinkCentre M91p, if we replace the standard CPU (i5) with a socket compatible Xeon CPU, will the motherboard support ECC RAM?

No.  It's the Intel Chipset that interfaces to memory, and only workstation and server Chipsets support ECC.  Check the specs for your desktop Chipset if you like.

Also, just because a processor will fit into the socket, does not mean it will be supported by the BIOS.   Sometimes there is overlap between ThinkCentres and ThinkStations which do use Xeons.   If so, that Thinkstation model will be listed on your BIOS download page, but for unknown reasons that upgrade does not always work.

Hi,   I have a M91p tower, 7052-A8U, with the factory 2 port ATI 5450 card installed.   According to the data sheet, this ATI card "works with the Intel HD Graphics to support four independent monitors."   I have not been able to get a 3rd monitor on either internal port to work at the same time as the ATI ports (selecting the IGP in the BIOS video will enable the internal ports, but disable the ATI.)   Is there a trick to making them all work?  I can't be the first one needing more than 2 monitors (I will need 4 total.)  More info:  factory Win 7 64-bit SP1;  I de and re-installed the current ATI software and drivers from the Lenovo website for this system, Intel HD graphics and BIOS updated.  Video is set to "Auto" in the BIOS (was the default), all monitors are the same 1920 x 1080 resolution. Clicking detect in Windows or ATI Catalyst shows only the two ATI connected monitors.  I spent an hour on the phone with Lenovo (IBM) tech support, no joy.   They were going build a system to test, and call back, but haven't heard from them.  TIA for any information or suggestions.   Alan.

Unlikely anyone here has run a R9-270X in their M-series. The BIOS probably does not support that card. You could check that you have the latest installed. The ThickCenters are business focused PCs, and as such, support that class of graphics card, along the lines of a 7750 or R7 equivalent, or a GTX 750. A card that can support business apps on multiple screens.

For the graphics driver, you can try the latest Windows 8 driver.   For the Network driver, you may find a Win 10 driver on the Intel download site (you can find the adapter model number using Device Manager.)

A:m91p: need windows 10 drivers

Microsoft and Intel do not support the Intel processor (Sandy Bridge) in the M91p for Windows 10, and therefore Lenovo does not have Windows 10 drivers for this system.

For the graphics driver, you can try the latest Windows 8 driver.   For the Network driver, you may find a Win 10 driver on the Intel download site (you can find the adapter model number using Device Manager.)

I bought this second handIntel Core i7-2600 Processor, 8GB, 500GB 7200RPM S-ATA HDD, no diskette drive, PCI/PCIe Tower (4x5), Intel HD Graphics, DVD Recordable, Gigabit Ethernet, Windows 7 Professional 64, new Coolermaster 500w PSU.The onboard is intel HD 1000 (gt) or similar and I got a Radeon hd5450 with it which is o.k. I have an old Radeon HD 4850 and have tried to install that installed the 4850 (it just fits) added the power. Computer boots, no post, no beepsand th ehd4850's fan powers up. Windows starts! I just get no signal to monitor. The card works fine in another machine.Ive installed latest bios 9HKT58AUS 0/10/2014 What is the best gfx card i can upgrade this machine to...it seems a bit tight in there.

A:upgrading gfx card in m91p?

I got a full-height over-clocked Gigabyte GTX 750 Ti with dual fans in mine  (it's shorter than some with dual fans.)      Fits and works great.   It does need one 6-pin PCIe power connectors, so it does need an after market psu.

Hiya, In my current PC I have an i5 3470, and In the Thinkcentre M91p i have recently purchased, it has an i7 2600, which is a little overkill for what ive purhcased it for, so I was thinking of swapping the cpu's so I have the 2600 in my gaming PC and the Thinkcentre gets the 3470.However I'm not sure if this would work as I have no idea whether the motherboard of the ThinkCentre would accept the new Ivy Bridge chip, and I don't even know if my Asus P8H77-V would accept the 2600?So would this work? and how would I go about doing it? Im a noob at all this im sorry ;(All answers are much appreciated, Ajsski99

HI, I have a Lenovo M91/M91P SFF with a 240w PSUHere are the specs: Intel i5-24004 x 2GB kingston DDR3 ram500gb 7200rpm HDDGT730 GDDR5 1GB Is it possible to upgrade my GPU with a GT750TI low profile by MSI? (https://www.amazon.ca/MSI-Computer-Graphics-Cards-N750TI-2GD5TLP/dp/B00SOXMPJY/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&q...) I heard that there are 240w PSU computers that were able to run the GTX 750ti.I ordered it on amazon since it was on sale, I could return it if it wasn't compatible with my current setup.I also disconected my optical drive since it was just drawing power and I barely use it.  Thanks!

Hi everyone, I recently bought a Lenovo ThinkCentre M91p 7033 - Core I5 2400 3.1ghz - 2gb with a board Intel Q67 Express and i changed the hardware to normal tower from asus, a large one, everything workfine, i even add more 4gb on memory ram and change the PSU for a 430w and left the old one(240w i think) in the chassis thinkcentre.  Now i want to add a MSI Nvidia 1030 GT 2Gb LowProfile OC and i want to know if works or not. I already downloaded the file with nvidia cards list compatibility, the 1030 gt doens't show there but maybe still work on this system ? And if doens't work on this system, i saw in that same nvidia card list from lenovo that GTX 1050 is compatible with this system, you think this current system can handle it ? I would apreciate some help, is my first time working with a lenovo setup. Sorry my bad english, not my native language. Thanks allot, Cheers Pedro Dyson

Hi there. Just received this kind of computer for the very first time. This is Lenovo ThinkCentre M91P made in late 2011. At the moment it has: i5-2500S 2.5 4 cores CPU12GB DDR3 RAM (I use 1600 Mhz instead of 1333 Mhz. Works fine)256 SSD SanDisk180W external power supplyNO VIDEO CARDComputer size: 270mm x 240mm x 80mm I have no idea what kind of video card fits. I browsed the internet and found out that it supposed to be a card called LOW PROFILE card. But these are so different from each other. I have a doubt if this old motherboard can still support any new video card at all. Below I leave a link to 1a.lt store, so maybe someone of you could point me some examples.https://www.1a.lt/kompiuteriu_komponentai_tinklo_produktai/komponentai/vaizdo_plokstes/max/price-100 And probably I will need some more powerful power supply. I would like to be able to play average games like GTA5. *** Also I'm wondering if this card could fit:https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N750OC-2GL#ov

Hello, I recently bought a Thinkcentre m91p desktop. It comes with an Intel Core i5-2400 and a motherboard Lenovo 7052A9G (BIOS 9HKT47AUS - 01/10/2012). What is strange is that the CPU fan runs almost all the time at full speed. I installed HWMonitor and the CPU temperature is normal, but I noticed that one value, the VR temp, is changing all the time and is very high (around 100C and sometimes more than 200C, even at startup). I'm thinking about buying a Zalman Fanmate in order to control manually the CPU fan, but I would like to know if this is a known problem and if there's a solution to fix this. Thanks !

Hi everyone.I like to upgrade my think center M91p tower with a geforce gtx 1050 ti graphic card. I read all threads about this subject but find oppositely information about compatibility. On one hand it is said, that the M91p is working fine with this card. One the other hand it is said that the pci-x slot of the  is6xm motherboard is limited to 60 watts of power, but the card needs 75 watts. Is it a question of PSU power or is this limit fix? Thanks for help.Gerrit

I purchased the M91p 7052-A7U tower because of the expansion capabilities.  I would like to add a second internal SATA hard drive, but find it very frustrating to find the part number of bracket to install a 2nd HDD.  This M91p tower is not really nearly as expandable as Lenovo would lead you to believe due to lack of necessary mounting brackets / cables.  Will a generic 5.25" to 3.5" bracket work to install a 3.5" SATA drive below the DVD drive shipped with the tower?  It appears I will also need a SATA data cable, but the required power connector is already available in the PC.  Is that correct?  Also what are my options if I wanted to install the 2nd HDD 3.5" HDD in the open slot similar to the first HDD shipped with the PC? Thank you for any assistance.

A:Adding a 2nd HDD to a tower M91p 7052-A7U

If you need to add additional hard disk then it require the hard drive bracket.

Please find the part number (41R6106) for New optional hard disk drive bracket assembly.

hi all, I have a refurbished Thinkcentre m91p Type 4518 (i5 2400, 8GB DDR3, 320GBHDD, standard VGA Adaptor), which is working fine, except HD video playbacks are sometimes lagging, so i thought of upgrading to a decent video card.Recently bought an R7-240 low profile video card(Asus AMD Radeon R7-240, 2GB, DDR3, PCIe 3.0)and hooked up the card into the PCIe Slot.when turned on there was no display and the fan wasn't even spinning. Then i updated my BIOS to ver.LENOVO 9HKT58AUS, dated 06/10/2014.Now the video card fan is spinning, but system seems not booting and no beeps, power LED is on,but absolutely no dispaly, not even the boot spalsh.even the onboard VGA port is not responding when the R7-240 is hooked to the board.once i removed the card from the board, the onboard VGA is responding normally.the system seems not recognizing the R7-240 at all.in BIOS video setup, active video was set to both AUTO and PEG and tried, but still no display. Also tried with both HDMI and VGA ports.Could it be possible that the MOBO is somehow OEM locked, is it my R7-240 faulty ?or did i overlook something else, help appreciated.
