Booting for the first time in my Lenovo G500

Q: Booting for the first time in my Lenovo G500

Hi everyone!I'm trying to boot for the first time in my Lenovo G500. It starts with the logo of lenovo and then it goes to a black screen and it is saying that is loading FreeDOS and is asking to enter a new date, new time and then it says C:/> and nothing happens. I put in the cd with Windows 8 drivers but i can't make it boot from the cd/dvd. Anyone can help? Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Booting for the first time in my Lenovo G500

Hi Stathesp,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your G500 Laptop is booting to Black screen, I suggest you to change the Boot priority of CD/DVD drive 1st and HDD (Hard Disc Drive) to 2nd, below are the steps to access BIOS:

Turn OFF the computer and then click on NOVO button which is located at the left side of the computer.
Then under Boot tab change the CD/DVD as 1st boot and HDD to 2nd device.
Now press ?F10? Key to save the changes, the computer will automatically restart.
Then check inserting the Disc and check the issue.

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

Typing this on mobile device so have to be succinct.  Upon pressing power button: No backlight on monitor appears (monitor remains black) Fan remains running at normal speed Little lights indicating battery/power status of unit work normally removing/alternating ram has no effect on occasion when the laptop works, the slightest nudge will crash/power off system i know it sounds bad (motherboard damage maybe?) but any thoughts would be appreciated

A:Lenovo G500 fan running, no booting

The nudge & crash symptom is concerning.       Did the laptop get dropped or have anything happen to it that might lead you to believe the motherboard would be damaged, or result i the screen failing?     Do you have the ability to try connecting and external monitor to see if the system is actually booting?Does the position of the screen have any effect?    (I ask because there is a cable between the screen and base that can become damaged overtime, and perhaps could be shorting. Best of luck, Lenovo G400/G500/G405/ G505/G410/G510 Hardware Maintenance Manualhttps://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_g400g500g405g505g410g510_hmm.pdf

hi hakaa,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If I'm not Mistaken you want to boot the system to your Installation Media, right?

First you can try the hitting F12 when you press the power to turn it ON.
If your Lucky the BIOS is already configured and hitting F12 should give you the Boot menu and will let you choose to boot from CD/DVD, HDD or USB.

If hitting F12 did not give you Boot Menu Option,
Turn the system ON and start hitting F2, Now This will Let you Boot into the BIOS and will give you option to change the Boot sequence,

Hope this info helps,
Please let s know if you have further questions,
Thanks,

Hey guys, i've seen some similar questions asked about this, but the solutions to those problems haven't been able to help me so wanted to ask you guys if i missed something or you can help. Maybe i've overlooked something, but i wanted to write this post, before going to bed in hope i could try the suggested possible solutions. -By the way, i am new to this forum thing so if i am doing it wrong, please feel free to correct me or give me advice on that as well.I got a used Lenovo G500, with windows 8.1 (64-bit) from a friend, so i used the feature in windows to wipe it from all files and reset it. But after it had run for about 10-11 hours the screen had just been black for about 6 hours, so i decided to turn it off, although it was still running, to see if that would help. Now when it boots, it just gets stuck at thLenovovo logo right when i boot it, without no signs of loading or anything, when i leave it there for some time, nothing happens. The NOVO button is not working, and i can't access the BIOS menu or Booting menu with any keyboard shortcuts. Unplugging it and removing the battery and holding the power button, then rebooting, also does nothing. I don't think anything is wrong with the hardware since it was running perfectly before i wiped it, but now it just gets stuck at the lenovo logo right when i boot it.Is it because windows did not get installed correctly, or some drivers were corrupted, or something with the BIOS (which i am not really sure what is, i do... The first thing I look at if a machine hangs at startup is the USB ports.  Physical damage can create shorts which cause these symptoms.  Check for bent pins or a tongue broken off.

Hi keshavshiyal,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You may use your serial number here on the parts look up page to get your OEM motherboard part number.
Using the part number to order or search online from other resellers in your location would help.

You can also call in  1-800-3000-9991 or to check here on where to buy as option.

Here is your hardware manual for reference as it includes FRU list to match the part number with the disassembly guide.

You can do this to exclude device driver from Windows Updates

Open a run box (Windows key + R)
Type in sysdm.cpl   hit enter
Then click on Advanced System Settings

You should have a windows with Tabs / Go to Hardware TAB and click on Device Installation settings

Now click on "No let me choose what to do"
Never Install driver software from Windows Update then save changes.

I have a G500 Ideapad that will not boot or boot to the bios no matter what I try. It goes directly to a blank screen (back light is on monitor but nothing appears) no matter which button I push to turn it on. The Lenovo screen does not appear. I have removed everything including the hard drive, reseated the ram and the processor and have even unplugged the cmos battery after removing the main battery for days and it still will not go to bios. This happened two other times but I was able to get it to go to bios. I have upgraded from win 8.1 to 10.

I tried the hard reset. Nothing. I even tried to put another hard drive from another computer in but still get that maddening blank screen right after turning on. Trying Fn + F1 or F2 does nothing. I would love if someone has some idea I can try to get to the bios I have not tried.

Hello everyone, this is a bit of an emergency for me, I'll sapre you the story and just state that I am a university student and I use my G500 everyday on campus for notes and communication. I bought a Lenovo G500 last year in July and it has been working well for me up until tonight. I have upgraded the hard drive to a Samsung 840 Pro SSD and installed Linux Mint 16, 32-bit. Yes, I had to disable the UEFI boot setting in the BIOS to install linux. So tonight I was using my laptop for some work and then wanted to watch a DVD while in bed. I inserted a DVD but couldn't get the OS to recognize it. No big deal I thought, I'll just restart and see if that fixes the problem. Upon restart I get the Lenovo splash screen...and that's it. The computer jsut hangs up there. Now I've been running this G500 on Linux since I bought it, without any issues. So I doubt it is the linux distribution (which I have kept up to date). Here are the troubleshooting techniques I have tried (and I have used the search function on this forum already, the solutions I found so far do not help/apply to my case). 1.) I powered down the system, removed the battery, unplugged the A/C adapter and held the power button for about 20 seconds to discharge the system. I then plugged the A/C adapter back in WITHOUT re-installing the battery and pressed the power-on button. No change in behavior. 2.) I re-installed the factory Seagate Hard Drive that still has Windows 8 installed (I kept... Read more

A:G500 stuck on lenovo screen

hi MadMechanic,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try the following:
1. Remove the AC adapter, battery and HDD.
2. Press and hold the power button for 20secs and then reconnect the AC adapter
3. Press OneKey Recovery button and choose BIOS Setup.

- Link to picture

If this works, try resetting the BIOS to the default settings by pressing F9 (or Fn+F9) then press F10 (or Fn+F10) to save and exit. When finished, try inserting the stock HDD (or the Samsung 840 Pro SSD) and see if it'll boot.

If the problem remains, try reseating the RAM (or if you have two memory modules, try using one stick only). If this doesn't work, I'm afraid you may need to contact Lenovo for service.

Regards

My laptop was plugged into my tv via HDMI. I ran a virus scan, then restarted. During the restart, I unplugged it from the tv. When the laptop booted back up, it displayed the lenovo logo, then the screen went dark. I waited a while, then tried plugging the HDMI cable back in... and windows (10) appeared as normal on the TV, but still not on the laptop screen. I am able to turn the dark screen contrast up and down with F keys, so it's not completely black.

Basically, I can use my laptop when plugged into the tv, but the laptop screen itself is black. How can I get the screen working again?

Thanks,
J

Try pressing the F10 key, you should see more settings on the TV screen where can select which display is used.
If that doesn't work press and hold down the Fn (Function) key before pressing F10.

Okay where do I start? When I first got my notebook around 2 years ago, it was perfectly fine. A few months from now, that's when it started to mess up in so many ways. My system constantly froze randomly, Windows had trouble booting the system, etc. Aside from these issues, I figured I had to factory reset my system in order to fix it. I did this and my system worked fine, only if I was lucky enough to successfully boot it up. It takes 40+ minutes for it to boot up and it works perfectly fine when it does and when I'm browsing through the desktop, but I think there may be major hard drive issues with it. The D drive/partition, or as it's called, the recovery drive, is inaccessible and empty. When I factory reset my laptop, I was able to open it but it was empty. After a few Windows Updates and boots, I can't do this anymore. Bare in mind I was running Windows 8.1 at the time. This partition could be the main culprit as to why my system takes so long to boot up, but I could be wrong. The only things I've installed on it is Windows 10. These are the things I've done with no success: -Run my notebook without the battery and only the charger-Remove the CMOS battery when booting up notebook-Remove the disc drive and boot up notebook I'm honestly running out of ideas. I've tried looking at the other forums but I think my issue is a lot different then theirs. On the other hand I can sometimes successfully boot up my system so maybe having this could give me... A:Upgrade to SSD on Lenovo G500 laptop

Hey Greg,

Since the SSD would be the same standard 2.5" size of the HDD in the laptop, you shouldn't have any issues swapping them.

The metal tray that holds the hard drive will have side screws that will work with the SSD as well. Just make sure that the SATA connection lines up before screwing the SSD on the tray though to avoid having to flip it afterwards. LOL

I have a Lenovo G500 and it will not turn on all the way. It gets to the logo screen and then gets stuck, enters diag mode, and then sends me to the blue screen. I've tried refreshing, resetting the files, and wiping the entire thing clean, and still can't get past this screen. I'm thinking the HDD is shot. Anyone have any suggestions of solutions? If you think the HDD is shot, any suggestions to what I should replace it with?  Thanks!!
