Router and Modem WiFi Issue

Q: Router and Modem WiFi Issue

I currently have two cables. One cable is a yellow ethernet cable that is plugged into my motorola cable modem in the Ethernet slot. The opposite end is plugged into the Slot 1 slot in my Linksys wireless router. My second cable is a grey ethernet cable. One end is plugged into the back of my computer and the opposite is plugged into Slot 2 slot in my Linksys wireless router. All of the lights are on both my modem and my router as if everything is working okay. The internet works as well.
However, when I try to access my Linksys wireless settings by typing in http://192.168.1.1/ in my address bar, it says the connection has timed out. It says this each time.
Now, when I move my yellow ethernet cable, that is plugged into Slot 1, into the Internet slot in my Linksys router, and I slide my grey ethernet cable to Slot one, I restart my router and I am now about to access http://192.168.1.1/. However, though I can access these settings, I cannot browse the internet. When I go to google or any other website, it says page cannot be displayed. Therefore, I cannot easily toggle between the Linksys settings and my internet, without moving around wires and restarting my router.
I'm doing this because I'm trying to configure my router with WiFi so I can use my Nintendo DS. Can anybody tell me why I'm having such difficulty with being able to view the Linksys settings and keep my internet connection at the same time? By the way, my Linksys Wireless Router is a WRT54G. My OS is Windows XP and my cable internet service is Optimum Online.

Note, when I have the wire connecting to my modem, into the INTERNET slot in my router, it says my computer is connected. My Network Connections says I am indeed connected to the internet. However, when I try to use a browser, or a program that needs the internet, it will not work. I get "Problem loading page", and when I try and run Windows Live Messenger it says my connection has been lost.

Preferred Solution: Router and Modem WiFi Issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Router and Modem WiFi Issue

Well, the modem has to connect to the WAN/Internet connection or you won't have any success here. What's happening now is the computer is connecting directly to the modem and using the router as a simple switch.

Do NOT try to configure the router using the wireless connection! Connect it with a cable for configuration, then you can disconnect it once you get it all configured.
Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi,

I recently bought dlink D2750U WIFI ADSL modem/router, for my ADSL internet connection.

But I have now changed my ISP, who provide internet via cable(not telephone line). The ISP guy provides a cable modem(old modem) along with it.

I have connected my PC this way:
Cable modem -> Router -> PC through RJ45. I am able to access internet from my PC, but I am not able to get wifi working on the router. And I am logging onto internet through a dial up connection.
Questions:
1) Please help in configuring the router to get wifi working.
2) Also, my default gateway seems to be either 0.0.0.0 or blank. So, I am not able to login to the modem unless I remove the modem connection. Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong here.

Here are a few more details:
Output of ipconfig: http://pastebin.com/Zr9Eb7L7

A:Using dlink D2750U Wifi Modem/Router As a Wifi Router

Hey Narain. The D-Link unit you have appears to be a combo unit (modem and wireless router) since it connects straight to the RJ-11 phone line. This unit won't work with an ISP that provides service by way of coax cable. The D-Link will work if you want to use DSL, but you need a cable service compatible modem or combo modem/router if you use cable service.

Not really. The ADSL router doesn't have the correct WAN interface. You need a standard router with an Ethernet WAN connection.

I have a BSNL wireless modem having inbuilt router. The modem has some DSL problem and cannot use the ethernet port to connect to my desktop. So I bought a new Baton DSL modem without wifi facility.

I now need the WIFI connectivity to connect with my phone for browsing net.

For that I connected the Ethernet port of new DSL modem with the old BSNL wifi modem and applied the following configuration.

I changed the IP address of router from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2

But I get only WIFI connection to connect to phone and not correctly getting the connection on desktop through the ethernet.Sometimes i get the connection and sometimes the connection lost.

I attached some images here.

pls help me to fix the problem.

A:How to configure wifi modem having router with DSL modem ?

Hi there,

On the second router, DHCP needs to be disabled and assign a fixed IP within the router's IP scope (with Wi-Fi capability) i.e. 192.168.1.3 (make sure that 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.3 will be in the IP exclusion list).

I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to Networking but here goes.

I've got a D-Link DSL-604+ 22Mbps Wireless router with built-in ADSL modem and a D-Link DI-624 108Mbps Wireless Broadband router.

Obviously the DI-624 that I recently purchased doesn't feature an in-built modem so instead of blowing $50 on a D-Link ADSL modem with Ethernet connectivity I was hoping to use the ADSL modem feature in my old Wireless router (604+) as my modem for the DI-624.

I called D-Link support but unfortunately after an hour of following live instructions from their support staff, I ended up nowhere.

They instructed me to disable DHCP and NAT features on the 604+ and plug an ethernet cable into it's LAN PORT 1 and plug the other end into the WAN PORT on the 624.

I plugged an ethernet cable into the DI-624 LAN PORT 1 and into my computer's Ethernet port in order to configure the DI-624.

After configuring the DI-624 via its web configuration web page, I could get the 108Mbps network up and running but without the access to DSL.

If anyone any of the above mentioned products and can provide a tip or a link to a guide or something, that would be great.

Thanks

Should I just install it?

I am usually pretty savvy with networking but this one really has got me. I have searched all over teh Intarwebs with no success solving it.

Basically, here's the issue. I'm in Mexico, and I want to set up a VPN (specifically HideMyAss, HMA) so that I can use my Roku and generally stream things from the United States.

TELMEX has given me a Alcatel-Lucent I-240w-q router which connects to the fiber line they have run to my house.

Separately, I bought a ASUS RT-N16 wifi router because that is the one that HMA says can be programmed to be the central "tunnel" into their VPN. I upgraded the RT-N16 firmware to DD-WRT's most recent build.

I have access to the config sections of both routers so I can modify their settings at will.

So what I need to do is connect the Alcatel router to the Asus router in such a way as I can use the Asus router as the primary access to the Internet (I wanted to set this up BEFORE I get the HMA subscription so that I could confirm it worked before I shell out for HMA).

I would deeply appreciate any assistance at all in setting things up so it goes through.

You'll need to check with Roku as to whether this is a violation of the terms of service. Based on what I'm seeing, Roku has specific appliances for different countries. I can easily see that what you're doing by accessing US programming from Mexico is a violation of the terms of service; more specifically the programming owners will probably have issues with streaming to foreign countries.

What would be best to go, buy a second wireless modem router to connect to Sagemcomm by Ethernet cable or a wifi extender?

I have an internet connection that I have extended to my Brother in law's house, next door. At the moment, I basically have two LAN cables coming out of my modem/router, one going to my computer and another, extended cable, going to his computer.
However, he wants to use his spare modem/router, which has wifi capability, to allow his son to use his own computer downstair with only wifi.
Therefore, will there be any conflicts if I simply splice in a Lan cable or add a lan socket for the second modem/router (wifi location.) at the appropriate point along Lan cable 2? See diagram below.
If there is a possibility of conflict what would be an alternate wiring method?

Thanks,
Tom.

A:Adding extra wifi (modem/router) to my already extended network

Good drawing and this will work just fine. In fact, that's what I use to get access at the far end of the house. Here's the trick;

router#1(lan slot) ---- (lan slot) router#2 with wifi
Notice that #2 WAN slot is left empty! This places all systems on the same subnet of the router#1 {what you are doing is making router#2 act like a switch which has wifi support (y) }

* Give router# a unique LAN address (If #1 is 192.168.1.1, then make #2 192.168.1.1) This will allow each to be manage via a browser connection
* in router#2 disable DHCP. This forces #1 to be the manager of the entire network and it will handout all IP addresses
Personally, I use the MAC addresses of my devices to enable router#1 to use Address Reservation of IP address for all devices attached to #1 (ie I map the devices to the range 1.2-> 1.10)

Then set the DHCP range in #1 to 1.100-1.50
These will be used for all devices attached (wired or wifi) to #2

Optional:
All systems can then use the firewall to allow or deny access for one or both halves of the network. EG: I permit access for 1-10 and 255 while denying 100-254ALL system must allow the top-end address 255 as that is the broadcast address that is used to hand out the DHCP data.

Hey everyone,
I'd really appreciate any help you guys can give on the issue...I'm at my wits end at this point...

So anyway, about a month ago my old 2wire modem pretty much kicked the bucket for good (after about 4 years of more or less dedicated service with the occasional hiccup here and there, I was kind of saddened yet relieved) and I was left without internet for a few days. I contacted my ISP with the issue, and after a bunch of failed restart attempts on their end (I told them the damn thing was dead already, but they were insistent on making sure I wasn't bs'ing them) they finally relented and decided to send me their new Pace 4111n router/modem.

A few days later, low and behold, I had a new Pace and guess what? IT HAD WIFI!!

The reason why this came as such an interesting surprise was because my old 2Wire that my ISP had originally provided us with was simply a modem with no router/wifi capabilities on it. In order to bypass the lack of Wifi, I had to purchase a Netgear N300 router and had it hooked up to the 2Wire for years with no connectivity issues.
Anyway, with the new Pace in hand, I put my old Netgear away and plugged the new baby in....and here is where things kinda went downhill....
Now...my old set up was kinda strange...I used to have the 2Wire modem hooked up to the Netgear router and in between had a Grandstream HT502 Voip phone adapter plugged in (we have the need in my household for long distance phone service, and in order to ... Read more

Hi,

I have a Fiber Optic connection at home, where the Fiber Optic modem is connected to my WiFi router. The problem is that in order to connect to the Internet, I have to first connect to the WiFi (WPA2) and then dial-in via PPPoE into the Internet. I provide the ISP username and password in the second step.

I am using Windows 7, and have created the PPPoE connection as shown in the attached screenshots.

I have to connect to this PPPoE every time I need to connect to the Internet. I have had to configure this on all my laptops, and have to connect using each individual machine where I need an Internet connection. This is a big pain, as you can imagine. Further, I want to connect my Nexus One to the home WiFi Internet connection, but since it doesn't have PPPoE support, I can't do this.

I went to my router settings (3Com 3CRWDR200A-75), and found something that seemed promising. In the Internet Settings section, I saw a place to provide the PPPoE username and password.

However, this hasn't helped. I still have to connect using the PPPoE connection in Windows

Does anybody have any ideas/tips? Any help would be appreciated, as this is getting frustrating.

Cheers,
Wild Thing

Since you're connecting from the router you can probably delete the PPOE connection from Windows.

Hi,

Running Win7 64bit

I have a Netcomm NB6 Modem Router which connects to the outside world.

The router part is only a fixed port, no wireless.

So I then have a Netgear WNR2000 Wireless router, to make the wireless network.

The Netcomm connects to the Netgear via cat5 cable from it's Ethernet/Network port, into a Ethernet/Network port on the netgear.

It works most of the time - however it has issues when the computer is restarted/comes out of hibineration, or the router/modems are turned off at the socket.

The issue then is that the network is found to be 'unidentifed' (as per Network and Sharing Centre"). I then have to disable the network device, wait 30 seconds and then re-enable it. 70% of the time this then works as the network becomes identified, I have have internet access. The otehr 30% of the time when doing this doesn't make any different, I have to power off both netgear and netcomm, wait 1 minute, and then go through the disable/enable process again.

So I'm not sure if it's hardward (router/modem) related, or software issue within win7.

The Nrtgear has a 'Internet' in port (ethernet/cat5), but as the netcomm is a modem router, it doesn't have a 'to router' port - hence it currently going from "Ethernet" to "Ethernet"

I know this is a bit of a hack, and isn't actually supported in Netgear's help desk (connecting router to router), but since it works once I've d... Read more

The phones are all different and so are the laptops and tablets none are the same brand. 2 laptops run windows 8 while the others are all windows 7. I cannot connect to the routers web address as it says it is disconnected. The only thing that works is restarting the router and it is only a temporary fix and also at random times it will kick everyone off and will not let anyone reconnect for about 30 seconds. Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

[Press ENTER after each command.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.
Then check your router's WAN status. If it has lost its IP address, tell us that and see if the router's or modem's LED's give any good hints (differences from when you have internet access). If the WAN still has an IP configuration look at what the Gateway is. Then run the following tests in a Command Prompt just like you did the ipconfig /all:

ping <put the Gateway IP here>

ping 8.8.4.4

ping yahoo.com

Hi, I came to this forum to ask for some help with my modem a while ago and got no solution to my issues. Basically my modem keeps on disconnecting me every 10-20 seconds, then reconnects for maybe 20 seconds and then the same thing over and over again. Sometimes, just sometimes after leaving the modem on for a day while pinging google it will run without any problems. But as soon as I turn off my computer or the modem it goes back to its old self.
Causes that can be ruled out:
I went to my ISP's local store and they tested out the Modem and it had no problems at all, so it's not a hardware issue.
I use the same wires for my new modem (the one having trouble) as I use for my old one (working fine), so it's not a wire issue.

So, does anyone have any idea to why my modem is acting like this?

Ok here goes - Yesterday I was able to connect to the internet then about an hour later could not. I reset modem and router but still could not connect A little while after that, I tried again and was able to get on. I then could not connect to my wireless cam or nor could the laptop connect wireless. I have a motorola modem from AT&T and a Linksys router. I have no clue as to where I need to start troubleshooting and don't have any networking background so I hope I'm not sounding to ignorant..... Can anyone shed some light?

I have set up my new linksys router to my comcast modem connection to work with my laptop wireless and is doing fine, but any other wireless devices such as PS3, Phone, etc.. Doesnt work!? I will appreciate any help to solve this problem thanks.

A:RCA modem (comcast) with linksys router issue.

Let's see this from the wireless laptop that's working on the router.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I am having trouble connecting my new N750 DB router model#F9K1116 to my Motorola SURFBoard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 modem. I bought the Belkin router used and have reset it back to factory settings. I am able to connect to it wirelessly from my pc and phone just fine but my issue is that the router light is on a solid amber light indicating that it is not receiving Internet from my modem. I connected my modem to my pc through an Ethernet cable to see if it is an isuue with my internet provider but I am an able to connect to the Internet just fine. I have an old belkin n150 router that I tried connecting to and it receives Internet through my modem with the light on the router being a solid blue. I notice that when I connect the old router the Motorola model link light is a solid amber and when I switch to the new router the link light flashes blue. I've tried just about everything to try and connect the new router to the Internet on my modem. I did the factory reset and the power cycle countless times. I believe it might have to do with the new router since the old one connects just fine. I figure it might have to do with the settings but I don't know. Any solutions to my problem?

A:Issue with Belkin router connecting to modem

with the PC connected directly to the modem only can we see an ipconfig /all please

Then connect the PC to the router (and router to the modem) and post in another reply the ipconfig /all - make sure we know which is which

When you power cycle how long do you leave everything OFF
I wonder if the ISP is using the MAC address as authentication from the old router - we may try cloning that later (MAC address often on a label on the router)

Also which socket are you using to connect on the router
the wan/internet/modem connection

------------------------------------------------------------------------

ipconfig /all

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the information above those entries

For Windows 8 or Windows 10
To open a Cmd Prompt or an Administrator Cmd prompt from the Desktop.

I'd set up a modem/router product of Zyxel VDSL 2 model. I'd configured the wireless part of the product and it worked, but a few hours later, the pc I was using asked for the password. Usually my windows 7 saves passwords automatically. So when I input the password, the service was denied. I had logged in to the wireless part of the modem/router and it not only changed the password, but self generated its own random password. it setup to use both TKIP+AES and WPA2. I change the password and it work, but a few hours later it did it again. Any reasons Why this can occur? And how to solve it?

A:Zyxel modem/router - password issue

Are you talking about the WPA2 passphrase? You set it, but a little later you check and it has changed to something else?

Are you sure that you clicked on 'Apply' or 'Save' or whatever is required to make the change permanent? Nobody else has access to the router either by LAN or by WAN?

Hey hey,

My fiance and I are both connected to our speedstream 6520 via ethernet cables. I mainly use my connection to play World of Warcraft, she uses hers for work (inbound customer service). The issue we're having is that when I play WoW while she's working, it disrupts her systems connection to her work server (i guess that's what she's connected to) and she gives me hell for it.

Is there anything that can be done so that we can both use the internet connection without interfering with the others fun/work?

Thanks

Hello, i have a very strange situation at the moment and I'm hoping someone can help.

I have a standard home wifi router from my isp downstairs (arris) and I use a Tp-link range extender/hot-spot upstairs, my laptop has started playing up and I can't figure out why.
When I connect my laptop (acer swift 1) to the tplink extender upstairs it works as it should, wifi is full signal and 50+ mbps. However when I connect it to the router downstairs, even if I am sat next to the router, the signal bar is full however speeds are 1-5mbps and drop to nothing every 30 seconds or so, Web pages won't load saying there is no connection.

I thought it may be the wifi card (Intel AC 7265), but I ruled it out as it works perfectly on the repeater and other people's routers.

I don't know if it's the main router either as all other devices (phones tablets etc.) work perfect with the downstairs router. It only happens with my laptop.

I have updated all drivers and done the usual rebooting of routers and laptop etc. And still no better.

Hope someone can help.

Problem with my cousins network again. The modem finally called it quits. He was told by AT&T to buy a new one and he bought a Netgear DM111PSP. It wouldn't work. I went there and after 1/2 hour it's working (I think he had the user name incorrect).

The internet works fine when the computer is connected directly to the modem. But when I wire in the router (Linksys E2500) he has no internet access.

Both had an IP of 192.168.0.1
I changed the router to be 192.168.0.2
Still no internet access.

A:issue with internet access after new modem (and router) installed

Some IP configuration may be helpful to see what is being set on the client side.

Can the client device ping the router?

Is the router receiving a valid public IP address from the connection to the internet (going through the modem)?

There may be a possible IP conflict as well depending on how the modem is setup... A possible test could be to change the LAN subnet to a different one. Maybe 10.1.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0? Remember to change the DHCP scope accordingly.

Many Thanks,
Josh

I recently purchased and installed a new modem, an Arris SB6183-RB. I went through the install with my provider and got everything enabled and set to go while I was on a direct ethernet connection. The ethernet connection still works fine.

My issue is once I send traffic over my wireless router, an ASUS RT-AC68U that I have had for two years and always worked great. Something is causing major security conflicts. Perhaps the firewall somehow? Basically, any device over the wireless network receives certificate security errors and websites cannot load. I have attached outlook.com screenshots as an example. I have two computers, and a smart phone, and any websites over the network now have problems. There are a few sites where certificates seem to work, and some apps on my phone seem to work fine. But the majority of websites:

1.) I get an alert from ESET antivirus about the faulty certificate.
2.) If I ignore that, Firefox is usually next on my tail.
3.) If I add an exception on Firefox and ignore, then it goes through OpenDNS and I am blocked on that end.

Basically, any traffic over my router is now hit with tons of warnings. I have tried the following:

1.) Updated the Firmware on the router, took a few flashes to get up to the most current Merlin version 380.62, did not help.

2.) I tried modifying a few settings in the router firmware that were recommended after updating to the latest Merlin, but these are more speed adjustments. Did not help.

3.) I went into the GUI fo... Read more

This comes up very often and isn't all that easy to find answers to, so I shall make this tutorial to help people out.

The Westell 6100 modem commonly comes with Verizon or Bellsouth DSL. This is how to configure it to work with a wireless router.
Plug the modem directly into the machine and wait around a minute for the DSL and Internet lights to come up solid.
In a web browser, type http://192.168.1.1 DO NOT forget the HTTP, otherwise it won't work.
The password box will either come up here or in the next step. The username is admin, and the password is password.
From the Configuration drop-down menu, click VC configuration
Click Edit on the PPPoE protocol, then enable it with the dropdown menu.
Select bridge from the protocol field. Also verify that the mode is set to bridge.
Click set VC.
Click OK at the prompt
Click OK to the reset configuration prompt
When the modem has reset, you will be returned to the homepage.
Go to Configuration>DHCP Configuration
Turn the DHCP Server OFF.
Click Save
Click OK at the prompt
Go to Configuration>Private LAN Configuration
Uncheck the Private LAN DHCP Server Enable
Click Save and exit the browser.
Plug the computer into the router, and plug the modem into the Internet or WAN port on the router.
Note that the Power, DSL, and Ethernet lights are lit on the modem (Internet will no longer light because the modem has not initiated a PPPoE session.
Open a browser and go to 192.168.1.1

I have DSL service with SBC Yahoo. SBC provided me with a 2Wire 1800HG modem. I recently purchased a NetGear WGR614 Wireless router. I used the NetGear installation CD to install the NetGear router. The installation process doesn't complete successfully, stalls at about 75%. I've seen chatter on the internet saying that there is a conflict between the NetGear and 2Wire but haven't seen many work-arounds suggested.

Please help!

Thanks

I have ascientific Atlanta Cable modem provided by my ISP(Roadrunner)
I run directly to My Computer(Desktop) via ethernet cable and everything is great.
I recently added a Lynksys wrt54G V5 Wireless router and Wusb54G wireless adapter for a second desktop in My home.
everything was fine until My computer crashed and when i got everything back up and running and restored My internet to My primary Computer, I disconnected the wireless router and went straight out of the cable modem to My desktop. after I re-established internet that way I ran out of the Cable modem via eternet to the Lynksys Router (into the port marked internet)
and than to My primary desktop via one of the WLAN ports and My desktop says that a cable is unplugged. So I assume that the Lynksys is not picking up from the cable modem and so no connection is esablished with the desktop from the Lynlsys. As a result, The other desktop with the wireless adapter sees no network to connect with. Technically I don't have much of a clue but I called Lynksys and they wanted $60.00($30 for the router and $30 for the adapter connection verification because the Lynksys equipment was out of warranty) So, before I go that route, I thought I'd try here.
Any Suggestions? Thanks- Highway

I'm switching from AT&T U-verse to Comcast since comcast can offer speeds up to 5x faster.

As you might know At&T uses ethernet as incoming signal vs. Comcast that uses 75 ohm cable.

I need to buy a new modem and router to install the new Comcast service.

I have two questions:

1) What is better? the combo modem/router units (i.e. Motorola SBG6580) or buying a separate stand-alone modem Motorola 6141 modem + Netgear N750 wireless router)?

2) I do have one issue to overcome. I have one TV in my house that is wired for cable only. That is, it has a cable run going to it. It's too difficult for me to install an ethernet run to it, so I'm stuck having to use the cable run. Are there modem/routers that have a cable OUT so that i can feed this TV its hard-wired signal?

Thanks,
bob

I have a toshiba Satellite L500D that seems to have issues connecting and reconnecting to wifi signals.

At my house it only connects once in a blue moon and when it does connect it cuts off and disconnects after a couple minutes of use. When I reboot it, it doesn't connect automatically and I have to search for my ssid and connect that way.

I brought it to my fiends house to test, and it seems to run smoother. No random disconetions but It still wont automatically reconnects after a reboot. (actually it does on a restart or a reboot within a couple of minutes, but anything longer and it doesn't remember and reconnect automatically)
I have the auto reconnect box checked off, Not sure why it wont automatically do it.
Im not sure If I should get a new router at home or a new wireless card or both?

edit; I have installed and reinstalled the wireless adapter drivers fr Toshiba site over and over w/ no change.

kymira, Have you look at updating your wifi adapters driver? Is this a new laptop or did you install 7 on it? more info would help to resolve your problem. Good luck to you with this.
are you using this version # driver?
